A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

New Flap Policy

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 27, 2020

I am tired. I’m tired of watching friends stay unemployed. I’m tired of businesses and schools being closed. I’m tired of watching the virus run rampant through our country. I’m tired of watching Americans get shot and/or killed for no reason. I’m tired of fucking riots. I’m tired of the nonsense that still is happening on a nightly basis in my second home Portland. I’m tired of societal division. I’m tired of fires. I’m tired of smoke. I’m tired of worrying about a close family member who is facing a terminal illness…..

Surprisingly, I’m not tired of wearing a mask. I have merrily embraced the mask culture. I spent too many years letting strangers breath on me. I will probably continue wearing a mask in many public buildings long after Covid is gone…..

I attribute most of this lingering tiredness to a slew of mismanaged crisis’ in our country. And while I appreciate having a place to vent about my ongoing staid state of mind, this is not the place for it.

If you go to the blog on your phone this is what you should all be seeing (I don’t know why it doesn’t appear on your tablet or laptop):

When I started the blog I named it “THE San Francisco Giants Blog–Unauthorized”. I thought that was a little too “TMZ” so I changed it to
“THE San Francisco Giants Blog—A Place to Talk About Giants Baseball”.

Just like with Facebook, Twitter and other places the Flap morphed into something other than what it was originally intended to be. I enjoy a lot of what the blog has become. But the political stuff is ruining this “place” that I started with the purest intentions.

So, we are going back to our roots. This is a place to talk about Giants baseball. Other topics are of course allowed and encouraged. The recipes you guys post are meals I still make to this day. The music videos, eh, I’ll leave that for others to enjoy.

But we are ending all the political talk. There are many other places you can vent your thoughts about that subject. No more Trump talk, pro or con. Those posts will be immediately and summarily deleted……

Yes Willied..Part of the learning experience.Another Giant pitcher that has the same problem is Beede!

Like Clint Eastwood said :“They just don’t have enough experience, you’ve got to know your limitations!”

  2. Macdog said, on August 27, 2020 at 2:54 pm

It’s so fucking frustrating how Opie dominates this team, especially at Oracle.

  3. alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:00 pm

I have no confidence in Suarez..

  4. alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:01 pm

    Told you all Suarez sucks!

  7. snarkk said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:14 pm

Good that this beat down is only 7 innings long.
    Ugly…

  8. Macdog said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:14 pm

    Bleacher-bound Suarez.

  10. alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:44 pm

First game all year the Giants have been shutout right?

    • Carstie Clausen said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:59 pm

Right…if you gotta all a 7 inning affair a game. Counts in the record books, but should bear an asterisk.

    Tonight’s cocktail:

    1.5 oz Armagnac
1.0 oz Rum, preferably one with some age on it
1.0 oz Quinquina, like Dubonnet, Lillet or a little fancier, Cap Corse

Express lemon and orange peel, discard

This is the commoner’s version of a $60 drink at Del Posto in NYC

    • unca_chuck said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:04 pm

      Whiskey, ice.

      • James said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:24 pm

I wonder if that’s a recipe Bozo was going to share, too.

  12. James said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:50 pm

Is anyone else really tired of the phrase “do damage?”

    • Flavor said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:58 pm

down the list for me. “New normal” is at the top

  13. Carstie Clausen said, on August 27, 2020 at 3:58 pm

Wasn’t following the game all that closely as being busy composing and coloring in the 43rd state to date for the adult coloring book. Did notice that Webb actually out-pitched Opie in the first 3 innings and then it appeared his command and control must have sagged. We hit some hard balls off Kershaw, but as the LaBumbos had some fielding gems and some others were evidently at-em balls, that was all she wrote. So can anyone fill me in on how Webb started losing that C & C and developed a too high pitch count early on. Thanks. -stix

    • willedav said, on August 27, 2020 at 4:04 pm

to me he throws too many off speed pitches and tries to be too fine. He hung one to Barnes, the 9 place hitter and he smashed it for 2 run double that did him in. Result is needless walks. His fastball has movement it’s just matter of getting better control of it. Has to cut down the walks and imo all the high pitch count put him stretch too much and put D on their heels a bit. This isn’t first time he’s had poor D behind him either and maybe deserved better fate.

      • Carstie Clausen said, on August 27, 2020 at 9:19 pm

Thanks, bud. Sounds like he. should come under the personal mentoring of a superior pitching coach. Would any of Kapler’s kids fill that bill?

  14. Carstie Clausen said, on August 27, 2020 at 4:05 pm

Whew!! Mariners whang up six big ones starting the game off G. Richards, who goes exactly 2/3 IP. Big damage was done by some guy with a name resembling Marmalade who clonked a salami. A single-shot dinger and a sac-fly did the rest of the damage. After that, the tromping we took from the LaBumbos doesn’t quite look so atrocious.

    • Macdog said, on August 27, 2020 at 4:42 pm

Pads scored 7 in the bottom of the 7th to win the first game, 10-7, so this one is far from over.

  15. alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 4:05 pm

Not thrilled when Krukow says:”It all started with a 2 out single and your down 7-0”

  16. unca_chuck said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:05 pm

Gasman throws Joc the same pitch twice in a row and he hammers the 2nd one.

  17. alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:05 pm

And here we go again!’Another HR by the Dogpile
    Pederson solo atleast..

  18. unca_chuck said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:08 pm

Right Willie. Webb had a shitload of 0-2 and 1-2 counts where he went soft and away. Guys were waiting on him to find the zone. Yeah he got a lot of bad breaks with the dribblers all over the IF, but he hung one and that’s all it took.

He needs to put guys away.

    • James said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:15 pm

Not saying he couldn’t have done better, but the Dodgers will wait you out. And if he throws one over plate with 2 strikes, and gets taken deep, he’s dinged for that sin, too. The Dodgers are the best offense in the league for a reason. Again, it’s also on Webb, but …

  19. unca_chuck said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:11 pm

Yaz ain’t doing near as well in the OF as last year. The catch to rob Turner was great but he followed it with a complete whiff of the line drive.

    • James said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:17 pm

It’s now two off the thumbs. Good thing he did make that great play.

  20. unca_chuck said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:22 pm

Gas man is nibbling like a mofo as well.

  21. unca_chuck said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:32 pm

    We look pathetic today.

  22. James said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:34 pm

The Giants aren’t equally impressed with the LA pitchers’ nibbling – they just hack at that shit.

  23. willedav said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:36 pm

Rickard era not off to rousing start.

  24. Macdog said, on August 27, 2020 at 5:56 pm

And then the Dodgers blow an easy DP..

Kruk: “most of McGee’s career was spent in Colorado”–um, no. He spent 6 years in TB before spending 4 in Denver.

  28. alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 6:14 pm

I will be pissed if Kapler only let’s Selman pitch to the one batter Seager who he got out on 3 pitches.
They have 3 lefties coming up besides Turner leading off.,

  29. willedav said, on August 27, 2020 at 6:19 pm

Ruf continues to disappoint as well. BA is under .250 OPS .700 ish 1 HR in 40+ ABs. Just expected more.
Davis could probably do no worse than this if Giants had given him this much opportunity.

    • Flavor said, on August 27, 2020 at 6:24 pm

i’m not sure why any of us expected more. He did shit in the ML’s till he went to South Korea where he raked. Came back here, back to reality…..

    • Bozo said, on August 27, 2020 at 6:27 pm

      They should go after Pillar.

  30. alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 6:22 pm

Deuces were wild today. Double 7 inning shutouts and two hits in this one….by….no suspenders here…BB9.
Games were sorta like drinking flat beer.

  49. James said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:15 pm

Two cheap wins for LA, 2 costly losses for SF.

  50. unca_chuck said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:17 pm

Out of the playoffs with those 2 losses FWIW

  51. alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:22 pm

So can anyone tell me how Luis Basabe is on the team?He was a pinch runner.
    What transaction did I miss?

    • Macdog said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:29 pm

Pavs earlier today: Giants are adding Luis Basabe, recently acquired outfielder, for second game of doubleheader. They get an extra player today.

      • alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:42 pm

Thanks Dog, I didn’t realize you could add an extra player for Doubleheader’s.

      • djloo27 said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:49 pm

More like a double headache as my Grandpa Bill used to call them.
He was a Brooklyn Dodger fan who dumped them when they left town and became a big Met fan.
You could see the new (at the time) Ebbetts Field apartment buildings from his living room window.
I found it hard to believe as a little boy that the Dodgers once played a few blocks away.
        Still tough to fathom that…

      • alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 8:04 pm

Bet Ernie Banks would say: Let’s not play 2 if he thought they would get shutout twice..

  52. James said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:39 pm

The Room Rater people will take note!

  53. James said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:43 pm

Nice last AB, but I wonder if there’s some small, malevolent, completely unprofessional, spiteful corner of Farhan’s soul that’s just a little bit pleased with Bart’s last few games.

  54. zumiee said, on August 27, 2020 at 7:46 pm

The Giants won 4 of 10 from L.A., with 7 of the games in L.A. That is a pretty well done job.

    • Macdog said, on August 27, 2020 at 8:00 pm

There is that, Just the way it ended leaves a sour taste.

      • zumiee said, on August 27, 2020 at 8:07 pm

That’s the thing. If the Giants had lost the first two, and won the third in dramatic fashion, we’d see the series differently.

  55. zumiee said, on August 27, 2020 at 8:10 pm

10 of the Giants’ first 33 games were against the Dodgers. That’s a tough first half schedule.

  56. Winder said, on August 27, 2020 at 8:15 pm

Getting shutout twice by the Dodgers in the same day. Can’t get much worse than that. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some moves happening soon.

    • djloo27 said, on August 27, 2020 at 8:17 pm

      Buying or selling?

      • Winder said, on August 27, 2020 at 11:02 pm

    • alleykat69 said, on August 27, 2020 at 8:35 pm

Better chance then my boy Jaylin Davis at this point.
Now he gets passed up today by Luis Basabe! It’s BS!

  61. willedav said, on August 27, 2020 at 9:04 pm

mm kinda funny SanDog tried to slip one in there which I read in full until it was rejected by power that bes.

OK here’s something I read today: team with most black players on it currently in MLB is—M’s, with 8 and total of 11 on the 60.
giants with none currently nor last season except for Sept call up of J Davis. Last 2 in 2018 Cutch and A Jackson, 2017 Span traded away that Dec for Longo. Richardson 1b coach I believe is only one on coaching staff.

As I mentioned earlier, those Dodger teams from early 60s when I began to watch had first 4 hitters in the lineup (Wills Gilliam and 2 Davises) and Giants of those days certainly had their share. Unfortunate pcts have dropped across baseball from those heady days in NL when they were integral part of each team and AS games.
And this is coming off era when there were definitely quotas among other teams.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on August 27, 2020 at 9:29 pm

Giants still ought to establish the Mays-McCovey baseball academy (with a full scholastic program along with room and board) at some currently undisclosed in their home state of Alabama.

Unlike the mean streets of big northern cities, the rural south probably still has a passel of young black kids who would love such an opportunity. Such a move would even em up with Branch Rickey bringing Jackie Robinson to break the color-barrier on behalf of that team which used to play in Brooklyn. Was listening to a potpourri of Boogie-Woogie music the other day and one of the performers was extolling Robinson in his lyrics, also giving mention to Cleveland and Larry Doby.

The talent is there. The possibilities could be magical
