A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

OF Help

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 30, 2020

I’ve re-considered my thoughts on JBJ. While his bat would be a certain drain on our production it’s not like it would be any worse than Dickerson who has clearly let the lightening out of the bottle. And he would be an enormous upgrade defensively. If we offered little and Boston accepted I’d be fine with that. I still want to the team to try to snag that final post season spot. Why not?

This is his walk year? No thanks. I’d rather see my boy Duggar get a full shot.

    • Flavor said, on August 30, 2020 at 8:21 am

honestly The Grave Dugger would be about the same thing. You’re right, just trot his ass out there.

  2. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 8:20 am

JBJ had decent seasons 2016 but OBP has slid from high of .349 down to .308 at present. He has zero power so isn’t any help offensively. Hard to see how that moves needle from guys they already have that are under productive at the plate. I think you had this right the first time, yesterday.

The Giants are where they are, under .500 and slightly behind even in a season with 8 teams playoff (think about that) because of pitching. They allow more runs per game than any NL team and have a team ERA of 5.01. They give up homeruns and walks at alarming rates, not good combo. They are sorting through who can do what and when.
The smart move imo would be to sell on guys who likely aren’t here next season like Watson, and continue to mix and match young pen guys in whatever meaningful games still happen.

    • Flavor said, on August 30, 2020 at 8:22 am

I’m just tired of watching Dickerson circle underneath a ball like he’s battling vertigo. If he was hitting I’d tolerate it better…..

  3. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 8:31 am

Ah LF is somewhere you can hide a guy, ala Morse or Burrell. Anyway Giants have OF prospects, at least for corner spots, in pipeline that get rave early reviews for power.

Core guys are doing fine at plate right now, but…By 2022 team is going to need replacements for at least 2 pots and maybe 3. Flores and Solano are fine enough hitters, for now, but defensive liabilities. Who covers 1b and SS?

  4. Macdog said, on August 30, 2020 at 8:54 am

Today’s A’s-Astros game has been postponed following a positive COVID-19 test in the A’s organization.

S-later won’t be ready when he comes off the IR Monday. Slymy Smargle and Moronta could all be available next week.

    Moreland to Padres…

    • blade3colorado said, on August 30, 2020 at 9:54 am

Along with Dominic Smith and Jose Abreu – he’s been the top 1st baseman in MLB. I had him in a couple of Draftking LUs, but thought something was up with the BOSOX, as they are the only LU not announced yet.

      • djloo27 said, on August 30, 2020 at 10:20 am

        Blade, baby!

  7. djloo27 said, on August 30, 2020 at 9:36 am

Bosox know how to tear it down and build it back up I guess…

  8. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 9:51 am

And I would rather have my boy Jaylin Davis roam Centerfield over Bradley. 5 years younger, faster, can leap tall buildings in a single bound. Sadly the Giants refuse to use Superman, cause his black life doesn’t matter on this team..

    • djloo27 said, on August 30, 2020 at 10:21 am

      You kill me, Kat!

      • alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 10:47 am

Loo..Just wait when the Giants end up trading him because they’re hitting coaches couldn’t make the proper adjustments, and he finds the right one on his next stop and turns into George Foster and torments his former team going forward..He’s screwed here, they gave him no chance, what 12-15 AB’s? While guys like,Walker mover Dickerson, and Grave Duggar who can’t even lay down a bunt, get useless playing time is a joke..

  9. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 10:29 am

Like to see Giants get robertson some IF time, especially at SS.
Don’t forget too how well core guys are hitting right now. Belt’s OPS is over 1.000. Longo has .500 slugging and is putting up numbers going back 7 yrs. Crawford has .760 OPS, as good as days when he was 3-4 WAR player and hitting 20 bombs.
Is any of this sustainable? Not just for another month, but next year too? All are just as capable of prolonged slumps, and of course shoulders.

    • willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 10:47 am

not counting Sandoval —6-11 yesterday with 4 doubles 4 BBs.

    • alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 12:03 pm

Robertson also has played some LF, só right there it’s an upgrade from Dickerson & Ruf out there.Robertson could turn into the new “Ben Zobrist” type where u can play him anywhere.
My latest outfield that won’t happen is Robertson LF, Davis CF,Yaz RF.
Yaz is more suited for a corner outfielder spot imo, with Davis speed and arm the perfect centerfielder we will never see..

Grave Dugger might be my all time Flap given SF Giant nickname just ahead of Count Chocula

    • willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 12:17 pm

Actionless Jackson Triple O (out of options) O-shits MTO…few more to choose from too

  11. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 12:14 pm

early lineup had Tromp at C for Cueto today, Sandoval at DH again vs. RHP.

  12. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 12:19 pm

Mets romping Yanks again. Previous inning watched Cano hit a line drive rocket out to RCF (yankee stadium I know) for his 2600th hit as player.

  13. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 12:24 pm

fun fact: I’ve seen video of P-R timbal salsa big band leader Willie Rosario with singer known as “Cano” Estremera, doing great version of song El Callejero. His real first name is Carlos and he is albino hence the nickname given to him for lighter skinned people in the PR.

  14. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 12:33 pm

I don’t know why the Giants are interested in over the hill Bradley. When a better player in Centerfielder Starling Marte is available and he’s not a rental signed thru 2021 at a reasonable price of 12.5 mil..Granted he’s in are division which might make it unlikely, but the kids a baller 🤑!!
My new revised outfield again Davis LF, Marte CF, Yaz RF speed, good arms and power baby!!

  15. Macdog said, on August 30, 2020 at 1:12 pm

Mets just blew a 7-2 lead in the bottom of 7th (1st game of doubleheader), it’s 7-7. Where have I seen this before?

  16. Macdog said, on August 30, 2020 at 1:13 pm

    Dick bomb!

2 feet outside and late to boot, Panda is just as pathetic as Pence was..

  19. Carstie Clausen said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:18 pm

At this point I’m getting tired of El Gordo. Hoping Giants make an acquisition and DFA Pablo. He’s ruining his legacy by continuing to flail away.

  20. Carstie Clausen said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:24 pm

So far it looks like Cueto’s dealing. 60 pitches through four = 15 PPI. Keeps it up and he could go six or 7. Giants need to get at Taylor to get him some support. Kapler is really screwing the pooch by batting Pable 6th. He should be 8lth or 9th if even playing.

    • Macdog said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:32 pm

I’d much rather see Flores DH and bat vs. the righty than Sandoval.

  21. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:26 pm

Smooth as Silk, the Shimmy machine has the D-Back hitters eating out of his hand!
Love the guy.Funny line by Kuip,:“Cueto balks 3 times on a pitch to the plate”

    • Macdog said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:36 pm

Even the D-Backs announcers are cracking up over Cueto’s antics.

    • willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:37 pm

that was the double move, awesome.
He’s dominating today, 1 hit through 5. Nice to get him little more support than 1 run.

  22. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:31 pm

He should be playing left out and released..

  23. Macdog said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:45 pm

Man, there’s been too many Ks by the Giants.

  24. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 2:49 pm

If Cueto sticks with the team( and I hope so)Tromp will be his personal catcher going forward..

  25. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:00 pm

Looks like Dick’s homer is going to have to hold up.Only hit as well
10 K’s by the Giants so far yuck 🤢

  26. chipower9 said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:08 pm

I would rather see the team sell than buy for the likes of JBJ, but only if they get a good return. Not expecting any top prospects back, but you can’t give away a Cueto, etc. for low-level prospects. I won’t be overly bummed if they sit tight.

As Mac alluded to earlier, too many Ks by the Giants. Bart was fucking killing me last night. Seems like he left 100 runners stranded.

  27. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:10 pm

dang it that’s all it was gonna take to tie it up.

  28. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:21 pm

Tough one for Cueto, well atleast he can’t get a loss.Just like they’re pitcher. Both pitched great now it’s a bullpen game.

  29. chipower9 said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:28 pm

Wilmet! Now need to pick-up Craw.

  30. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:29 pm

    Wilmet strikes again!
this guy is without question my favorite Giant

      • alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:42 pm

        Too bad Bum wasn’t available.
Good matchup “Grave Dugger”vs “The Undertaker “

  37. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:40 pm

Brutal call, looked like Belt’s size 14 just beat that, cost them a run..

  38. zumiee said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:40 pm

Replay fail. The reason replay was put into place was to overturn calls like that.
As people have noted, the replay officials over the years have gotten more conservative on overturning calls.

  39. unca_chuck said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:40 pm

Not sure I want to see Rogers again. He has sucked when pitching 2 days in a row.

  40. unca_chuck said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:44 pm

    Who pitches the 9th?

  41. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 3:47 pm

They could stick with Rogers, he made them look silly that inning!

Borecore playing like vets. Bullies being badass. What’s not to like? Too bad Cueto doesn’t get the W. ,but he sure kept the game under wraps, minus that single-shot. 17-19 now. Respectability beckons.

  46. alleykat69 said, on August 30, 2020 at 4:13 pm

And a tip to his Coonskin cap! We have a new CLOSER that throws Gas not named Strickland !!
He’s Davy Crockett &Daniel Boone combined, keep rolling him out there!

  47. Carstie Clausen said, on August 30, 2020 at 4:27 pm

Annnnd—we get the possible resurrection of Dickerson. Just in time as Yaz has slowed down lately and a void was developing on the top of. the lineup.

  48. Flavor said, on August 30, 2020 at 4:31 pm

what Wainwright did today and assuming he’s not taking steroids was AMAZING

    • Carstie Clausen said, on August 30, 2020 at 5:39 pm

“1934 Sad Sam Jones”. Was there more than one? Sad Sam Jones pitched for the Giants ca 1958. So if this was the same Sam who was 42 in ’34 he would have been 66 in ’58.

  49. Flavor said, on August 30, 2020 at 4:37 pm

Grave Dugger….. there, I think it’s out of my system for the day.

Yeah good Wrestler’s name are Monster Truck name as well,,,

  52. snarkk said, on August 30, 2020 at 4:48 pm

That call at 1b replay on Belt’s grounder in the 9th, he was clearly safe. As obvious as the heat in Phoenix. Cost Giants a run. This replay stuff in MLB often returns non-sensical results. Nice win today…

    • willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 6:16 pm

Kuiper noted AZ pitcher missed clear strike call because his pitch missed target as set by C. I’m reading new book by Keith Law, and his very first chapter is in favor of Robo Umps. And part of it is because he says they have inherent biases that cause them to make the wrong call, ball/strike etc. He says borderline pitches would be missed by robo umps but not near to extent that it happens now and it could be adjusted and corrected.

  53. willedav said, on August 30, 2020 at 6:22 pm

49 HRs hit so far today. Braves Phils game is only in 5th so I’m sure more to come.

  54. sandog said, on August 30, 2020 at 7:22 pm

ABC showing Black Panther with no commercials at 8 pm.
Like Flav, I had never heard of this guy or seen any of his movies, but he seems like he was an impressive dude. I’m not a movie guy, and superhero movies are among my least favorite, but I’m going to give it a shot and see if I can hang in there for a while.

    • Macdog said, on August 30, 2020 at 7:30 pm

I’d recommend the Jackie Robinson movie “42,” although I still couldn’t bring myself to root for the Dodgers.

  55. Macdog said, on August 30, 2020 at 7:41 pm

Flav’s post about the birthday pitchers mentions Freddie Fitzsimmons. His name came up during one of the Mets games this weekend. Jacob deGrom will make his fourth straight start tomorrow vs. the Marlins. The last pitcher to make four straight starts vs. the same team was Fitzsimmons pitching for the Giants, he made four straight starts vs. the Reds in late July/early August 1929.
