Deadline Day And A New Virus To Worry About
Lots of buzz about who might get moved today. So far, no stars have been moved, as expected. Supposedly the Rangers are floating Gallo and Lynn, both of who I would love to have but I can’t imagine Z paying the asking price.
My plan would be to roll deep with the guys you have. No trades. This team has been fun to watch for the most part–they deserve the chance to keep it going and try slide into the last post season spot.
On a more self serving note, it appears I have had a tweet go viral (at least for me, most of my tweets get ignored and/or liked by Diggity and another friend or two).
But not this one, check out these stats. Shit’s going viral faster than motherfucking Covid.

Here is the actual tweet (yes, I know it’s funny, thank you in advance):
Flying in the 70s, back when you could down 3 doubles on the hour flight to LA and the stews bought you the last one.
If Zaidi makes a trade that is seen as going for it, this team will leap frog over the Rocks and Miami. If he does nothing this team might sneak in. If he trades someone who is currently on the active list, I think this team will tank the rest of the season.
I’d trade Watson, who might bring back someone eventually useful. He’s only thrown 12 innings and very good ones this season and could likely help another contender in post season. Giants have abundance of lefties in pen. he’ll be 36 next May, and FA in off season.
that’s a great pic, but I have lot of sympathy for flight attendants of today. As part of travel biz for last 20 years, it’s pretty bad around world. even if we wanted to, travel anywhere for most Americans is severely restricted even within our own country. SF of course is a city that relies heavily on tourism for large part of its income and is heavily impacted by its demise.
Dude, you mirrored my thoughts exactly on this team. I agree…I have really enjoyed watching this team, and love the way they battle. I hope they stand-down and roll with what we have.
Nice to see the team get their first road series win yesterday. Two in a row…time to put together another nice little run.
I have off days, but get it with travel, players needing a break, etc.
Yeah, teams are going to gouge to give up stars or lowball to get them. Gonna be an Actionless Jackson kind of day.
It’s not Missing in Action Jackson in San Diego.
They have already made 3 deals, getting Nola super utility catcher/infielder, Moreland , then another good catcher in Jason Castro as they continue to push their chips in the pot.
I would like to see the Giants pickup another SP only due to injuries and F/A losses possible loses next year.
Lynn would be awesome as his contract is good for a few more seasons.Same with Dylan Bundy either guy would be a nice add.Preference for Lynn though..
Tweet of the year.
And I don’t even have Twitter.
I would also request a full investigation into who is responsible for coming up with Grave Duggar now that I know how much joy its brought to your life. I would like to claim it as my creation since I have little else to be proud of, but it may belong to Kat. Can you put your forensic experts on this?
Looks like the Pads are getting Clevinger from the Tribe.
As I post that, the Pads get Clevinger in a 9 player deal!
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/padres-acquire-mike-clevinger-from-cleveland-in-nine-player-blockbuster-at-mlb-trade-deadline/
To use a poker analogy, the Padres are going “all in.”
AK, at this point we aren’t in a position to lose prospects. There will always be mid-line pitchers available to us. We need to wait and see instead of trading prospects.
I don’t think unloading players is tanking at all. I would love to see Cueto, Smarz, Longo, Belt, Craw, and a few others go. Although they are fair/good players we will never win anything with them. And from this point on they will just get worse
I’d be OK with that, but I just think we won’t get squat in return. All of those guys in trade would require a ton of salary eating on our part. Something this ownership group opposes in a big way. Their course of action is usually to just roll with what they got.
Cutting Panda and Crawfish? Sure. But that would likely cause a cratering. As much as the fans love these guys, the younger players do too. It would affect the team badly to dump those guys, as much as i want them to.
I understand what you are saying but I think the whole organization would understand a bigger rebuild. This might be the perfect time to do things since there are no fans in the stands. It’s not like the bore core aren’t considered SF gold because they are, it’s just time. IMO
With that being said, the bore core (minus Panda) is doing fairly well.
Kat – I agree wihh Unca. While I would like to see the Giants add pitching, I sure do not feel we should be trading away prospects to get their. We are in a rebuild and need to keep/evaluate our young talent. Just my opinion.
Giants winning pct right now is almost exactly same as last year when they were 77-85. The fact you could almost sneak into playoffs with record like that shows how much of sham this season is. They finished 12 games behind WC Brewers last year.
. in this 8 team playoff set up in a meaningless season they are currently 9th and any one of the 3 teams behind them Mets Brewers Reds could finish ahead of them too.
Win as often as you can sure, but ultimate goal is to get to be one of those Top 5 contenders by 21/22.
What is up with Samardzija – is he waiting for the football season to start? I hear he used to play.
If this was a normal season I would advocate trading Yastrzemski as he’s approaching 30 and at or close to peak value. Doing anything with the Bore Core to shed salaries would be gravy. Cueto to be considered for a high level prospect but the club would have to eat a ton of cash. As a fan I’d rather he stay since he’s fun to watch and I look forward to his starts. Meh, whatever-hold and see if this group can get back to .500.
He’s throwing from flat ground as of now they say me might be available next week. Bishop is COVID free and is back with the scrubbinis in Sacto.
Fred Warner put on the covid list. Speaking of which – has there been any update re Hunter Bishop?
Fred Warner on the COVID list. No word if he was just exposed to someone who had it, or if he tested positive.
I’d think the entire team would be in the protocol if Warner tested positive, but I guess we will find out soon enough either way.
Per Jeff Passan, D-bag lefty Robbie Ray has been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.
i am giving credit to Kat for The Grave Dugger but let’s get that sorted out ASAP before I use it again. Proper credit needs to be given for that outstanding, generational nickname
suuposedly yanks interested in Gausman
Talks have supposedly been going on for some time.
I remember saying in the Grave Dugger pretty early on,but there is a chance someone said it before me?
Detroit Tigers claim Dereck Rodriguez and put him on the alternative squad..
Trade watson and Cueto. Yaz? Nope. Our only interstng player. yes her will be 30. Never had security. Sign him to a 2 year deal. He figured it out late, but can still be a piece of our WC plaoff team in 2022.
Agree.
Pads so far have aqquired Rosenthal Moreland Castro and now Clevenger. Good for them Hope they can give the Dodgers a run.
Padres with a deep farm system decides you can’t play everyone and are making bold moves.Taylor Trammel is rated fairly high at 69 that Mariners got but u never know if he pans out.
A’s make a Minor trade with Rangers.
Looks like Rox picked up our old buddy 1.0 from Red sox. Giants play them Tue-Wed before another day off.
D-Backs trade Starling Marte to Marlins.
? I’m not seeing this one
It’s on MLB and ESPN web sites.
Giants do nothing at the deadline and that is just fine with me.
My nephew tells me we picked up a reliever and he usually has solid GIants intel.
A lefty reliever:
From the Rays.
Hah! Said they’d dumpster dive pen help a couple days ago.
Down one Joey . . .
Banda. Fucking finally!!!!!!!
Last LH reliever we got outta TB has turned out pretty good to date…Jarlin’s ERA is still .000, if memory serves. You really can’t get a whole lot better statistically.
Banda is built like an NFL linebacker at 6’2″ and something like 230. Over four seasons, 2 each with Snakes and Tampax he’s had as grand total of 3 cups of coffee and one with 30+ IP. High ERA in those stints, but our champion dumpster divers seem to have pretty good intel coming in on scrape em up prospects.
We participated!
So who came up with The Grave Dugger, Kat or Loo
I was pretty sure it was Kat.
then I shall attribute this once-a-generation nickname to Kat unless Loo issues a “Nay!” and requests a formal investigation.
Giants should’ve held a virtual (ball) yard sale. Dust off the old-and-in-the-way bore core and put ’em out on the lawn. Let someone drive by and take ’em for 50 cents each. Of course there might be some seller’s remorse: “Damn, I loved that lava lamp, back in the day, can’t believe it’s gone, and for just 50 cents…” That’s ok, time for some new lamps….
It’s tough though when the lava lamp has a “no sell” clause in its contract!
Well then, perhaps you just leave it outside on the “must go” table anyway, someone might just take it for free in the middle of the night….
Good call!
Banda is all tatted up that’s good we need more of an edge to this team.
Kung Fu Banda!
I fucked a stewardess once… once. Met her at a bar in Faneuil Hall, she had just arrived in Boston from somewhere, still in her uniform. On TV was game 6 of the ’86 Series. Later, she gave me a good heartbreak cure at her hotel for a few hours, anyway….
Hopefully you weren’t in too much of a hurry that you missed seeing Buckner let that grounder go through his legs…
Wish I woulda been….
that’s a great story and now I’m giving it a 0.000004% chance that you fucked my mom’s sister
Now THAT would certainly show that Flap Universe is quite the small world…. I’m guessing your aunt is a bit older than me. Not that there’s anything wrong with that….
I pulled off a blockbuster deal in my kitchen recently where I bought a Ninja Foodie Pressure Cooker/Air Fryer and DFA’d to the thrift shop my Rice Cooker, Foreman Grill, Old School Pressure Cooker, and Crock Pot.
I feel like it was a deal that helped both teams.
Good trade! Future oriented. Deadwood gone.
It felt fantastic and the fung shoei in the kitchen is much better now.
The Indians don’t fuck around. They go rid of Clevinger before he even got to arbitration, let alone free agency. Seems like they got a pretty good haul in return though.
Is Austin Nola that good of a player?
he’s definitely better than Hedges who is terrible.
That’s a pretty low bar when you factor in the prospects they gave up. But maybe the pitchers they got back with Nola are better than I realize.
Pads just finished another beatdown at Coors, won 3 of 4, so Rox are stumbling a little heading into the Giants series.
Pads look loaded for bear.
Them vs. Doghairs would be a good matchup in the post season…
