A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Brock

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 7, 2020

One of my favorite things about horse racing is the language. A tie is called a “dead heat.” A horse that’s never won before is called a “Maiden”. A day when the track is closed is called a “dark day.” It goes on and on.

Baseball is like that, too. Single, double, triple, home run.

And the *stolen base*.

I’ve been fascinated by people who are fast my entire life. To me, speed is the ultimate human coordination. I would give anything to be fast. I’d rather be fast than have the ability to fly although to me it’s kind of the same thing. Rickey Henderson is my favorite non-Giant player of all time.

There are a lot of things I miss about the way baseball used to be played. The stolen base dissolving in importance is the thing I miss the most.

In 1974 Lou Brock stole 118 bases. He was 35 years old. That stat will forever blow my mind.

RIP

It’s as if catching pop-ups at twilight in the Giants ballpark can be a challenge.

That’s why they need the DH next year to many weak ass fielders, unfortunately we need more then 1 DH..

I agree, especially to bring Coonrod in. You never know what you’ll get with that guy.

Just got notice that PGE will probably chop power between 1 and 5 AM. Target for restoration is Wednesday, 7 PM. My generator will get a workout. Just filled a 5 gallon can the other day. Good timing…

    • xoot said, on September 7, 2020 at 7:49 pm

Wow. Better than a fire though.

      • chipower9 said, on September 7, 2020 at 7:58 pm

Agree. It sucks, but I understand and support the decision.

      • xoot said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:00 pm

Stay safe. Are you working from home?

      • chipower9 said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:03 pm

Yes. And will continue to telecommute 100% post-pandemic.

    Winner winner chicken dinner!

  6. Lurker John said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:05 pm

.500. This team is better than I thought it’d be.

    • chipower9 said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:06 pm

Definitely. I came in with no expectations, and they have been the most entertaining Giants team in years.

  7. xoot said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:05 pm

Whew! Now they need a couple of wins before the series in SD.

    • chipower9 said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:08 pm

Yep. And the Mariners are playing pretty good ball. Just swept Texas for four.

  8. alleykat69 said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:08 pm

    .500 ball!!
Let’s get above it for once tomorrow,,
Arizona does stink of rotten butt hole, só they should of won all 4 except for Dubon’s base running blunder in GM 1..But hell winning the last 3 are always sweet..

  9. Lurker John said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:11 pm

Yeah, need to keep it going and take care of a hot Mariners team, because the playoffs are a possibility. I did not think I’d be saying that. There’s holes on this team, but they compete and that’s the most important thing, plus there’s more talent than I think a lot of us thought a few months ago.

Finish Cali as Giants rally. Yeah 50 states now all composed and colored in for that Cosmographic States of America coloring book. Had saved it for last as putting those symbol-letters into balanced harmonics requires a bit of special energy and accumulation of technical skills. Will have to re-do some of the earliest ones, but that’s okay. Officially retired and time on my hands. So with a yellow ocher background coloring in, the state looks pretty not too bad as we Minnesotans might phrase it.

Yeah, the chorus line didn’t dance along as long as we’d have preferred, but it sufficed. So Kapler appears to be doing auditions for the closer role. So far he now has three possibilities. Coonhound got taken for a ride by Peralta, a dangerous bat at times. But maybe that pissed him off enough too burn through the trailers. Very interesting how this bunch of bullies keeps jelling. Gausman appears to be a fighter. Walk year, I think. Maybe the braintrust oughta offer him a juicy two-year contract.

So yeah, all’s well that ends well.

    • zumiee said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:17 pm

Gausman’s market value continues to rise. I wonder what it ends up at.

      • alleykat69 said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:27 pm

No reason to get rid of Gausman now.He wants to comeback next year, the other pitchers aren’t ready,Sharks gone, Webb is the only one that’s a sure stick. So if they could do a 3 year deal tops Gausman might bite and be back.Nothing wrong with his stuff, has to be top 5 in K’s??

That we see Clint half the time is so much fun. I’m guessing we haven’t played .500 for a month+ since the AS break in 16 except for last june / july!

  12. zumiee said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:25 pm

Rockies and Pads are on FS1.

    • zumiee said, on September 7, 2020 at 8:25 pm

I guess we’re rooting for the Pads.

Still love White Rabbit at Woodstock, such a great vocal performance by Grace and boy did they all look blissfully stoned out of their minds…

    • Carstie Clausen said, on September 7, 2020 at 9:28 pm

Watched all that fun n’ games back in Mn. just about a year ago over public tv. I’ll admit it–brought tears to my eyes more than once…”My generation”. Man, did we have the music.

      HIGH-ER!

Had to bail out of the house and hit up a friend in Orinda who has a pool. It was 90 inside by the time we left.

Stix, I am so jealous of my older sisters who went to a ton of shows in the city in the 60s. The Doors, Hendrix, Quicksilver, the Dead, Hot Tuna, Airplane, Santana, Janis. My sister Lulu went to Altamont. She also met, and got wasted, with Janis at the Gold Cane on Haight. She saw Zepplin when they were the opening act for Vanilla Fudge. Ahhhhhh, born 5 years too late. I may not have survived though!

Got power back on about 8:30, so we came back. They better not hit us with a fucking rolling blackout. Like everyone else, we’re working from home, and once the network goes down, the fucking superfantastic 5G sucks balls, and I can’t get anything done.

This team continues to surprise. I really didn’t think we would be close to .500. And I really didn’t think the hitting would be even half this good. Get Slymy back, and hey we may even have a decent rotation. Whodathunk?

And we got football next weekend!
