A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Playoff Push

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 8, 2020

I have no idea how many games remain. All I know is that we are .500 and have a 58% chance to slide into one of the “walk of shame” post season slots.

After all these years of boring nonsense, I will take that.

Just saw a highlight — or lowlight — from reeling Yanks, Sanchez dropped an easy foul pop, haha.

Couldn’t happen to a better bunch of hyped-up rich boys.

Single, double, and triple for D Barrells.

Looked to all the world that K was simply hanging Webb out to dry. Well, he went and toughed his way out of that jar of strawberry jam. Lessons learned? Could be. Kid is plenty tough down deep. You can see that in his expressions. Not quite the deer in the headlights.

Milwaukee Braves had a pitcher named Lou Burdette back in the day. It was only 8 teams in the NL back then and so I caught a fair number of Braves-Giants games.Took to calling him “Lucky Louber” at the age of twelve or so. Later along I came to realize that he was one tough piece of leather.

He was also Denny McLain’s father in law…

      • djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:40 pm

        No he’s not.
        That was Lou Boudreau.
        Goddammit!

      • xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:42 pm

        Loo!

      • unca_chuck said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:42 pm

Lou the Toe Groza was his neighbor . . .

      • James said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:46 pm

I’m guessing Lou’s columns in Baseball Digest are not as readable as the old Baseball Abstract pieces. I never did look at the archive, even though I shared it with a few others.

Wilter’s not lookin so sharp tonight.

What did the one strawberry 🍓
say to the other Strawberry 🍓 ?

You have to be pretty fresh
to get out of this jam!
Maybe that was Kapler’s showing the baby face kid I have faith
in u to escape your own jams..

  6. xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:47 pm

Pretty weak play off the bricks by golden boy. Time for a splash hit or two from that mook.

    • unca_chuck said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:49 pm

      Who you calling a mook?

    • djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:51 pm

Who’s the Giants “Archway 3” coach?

      • zumiee said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:56 pm

Trivia question: are the archways counted from the left or right?

      • xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:00 pm

        Right

      • zumiee said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:04 pm

Correct! And Jon Miller was the first Giants broadcaster I heard refer to them by number.

      • xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:05 pm

        He invented it.

  7. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2020 at 8:59 pm

Only The Golden Arches know for sure..

    • xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:00 pm

Jon Miller damn sure knows for sure

      • zumiee said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:05 pm

        Yes!

  8. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:03 pm

For all the hype on Bart with his power,
It’s still Kuiper with bragging rights 1-0 on Home runs!!

    • xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:11 pm

But didn’t Kruk just join my prediction that Bart will blast an oppo field splash hit? The seven million dollar man has done a lot of imaginary damage.

      • alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:16 pm

Same with Davis, he’s an imaginary Giants player.
Zumie cue The Beatles..No where Man..

  9. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:13 pm

Gotta hand it to Seattle, they have 5 black players on their roster.
No other big league club comes close to that I assume.Hell the Giants
still won’t promote Davis backup, pretty sad really considering Kapler’s stance on BLM ✊🏽

    Ruf stuff!

  12. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:19 pm

Just Ruffin it out of the park for the lead!!

  13. djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:26 pm

    Can’t blame Servais.
    Awful call…

  14. unca_chuck said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:26 pm

    Belt with a great play

  15. xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:27 pm

Belt is still a very good player.

  16. djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:27 pm

Band of Misfits – 10 years later?

  17. unca_chuck said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:27 pm

    Wasabi in left (overs) field

  18. Carstie Clausen said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:29 pm

Sometimes that L-R switcheroo works to the good. K. guessed right vs left and replaced homer Dickerson and traded his bat for Ruf’s.

    • djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:34 pm

I admit to second guessing it…

  19. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:33 pm

No way the Dickster makes that catch!
    Good job Wasabi!!
Now let’s get an AB for ya fella..

  20. Carstie Clausen said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:33 pm

Choice of two for the top of the 9th, Sam or Walton, who will Kapler choose. Maybe somebody in the clubhouse could do the opting.

    • xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:40 pm

Now that the pens are behind the fence we don’t get as many previews as previously.

    • xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:40 pm

Kruk n Kuip also don’t seem to have a very good view of the new pens. Seems like they depend on camera feeds.

  21. alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:36 pm

    There’s your cars Loo..
They almost still come into play.

  22. Macdog said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:41 pm

I do not remember Servais playing for the Giants even one season, let alone two.

    • djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:48 pm

      They also had Scott Service.
You don’t want to remember him either…

  23. djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:50 pm

  24. xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:50 pm

Yes! They need to win these two.

  25. Macdog said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:50 pm

    Comeback win! Over .500!

  26. djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:52 pm

Zumiee’s Rally Chandler does it again!

    • zumiee said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:53 pm

He has a high winning %!

  27. Macdog said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:53 pm

Giants have a better record than the Yankees.

  28. xoot said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:54 pm

Watson, coming back from his shoulder injury, started out slow, but he’s been strong lately and shows no sign of letting up. He’s a great part of the pen. Looks like it’s going to be closer by committee, which I think makes sense with these guys.

  29. Carstie Clausen said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:54 pm

This team’s got more bounce than a pair of frogs with a yo-yo.

      • snarkk said, on September 8, 2020 at 10:03 pm

I need some Dramamine watching that…

      • alleykat69 said, on September 8, 2020 at 10:39 pm

Bouncing Betty’s getting her mojo on, like are SF Giants!!

  30. djloo27 said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:55 pm

Good thing Ruff didn’t take the Pueblo back to the States…

  31. Carstie Clausen said, on September 8, 2020 at 9:57 pm

Lots of tough competition ahead with 17 to go. An 8-9 record would flatten out at .500. But they should aim higher…shock someone.

  32. zumiee said, on September 8, 2020 at 10:00 pm

    Rockies lost.

  33. snarkk said, on September 8, 2020 at 10:01 pm

3 HRs tonight = big comeback.
No way the teams in the past few years come back without this HR power…

  34. unca_chuck said, on September 8, 2020 at 10:18 pm

Webb actually did a good job getting through 5. Wild as he was. And the more we go along here, the more I hope we go with Watson as the closer. He’s the vet guy you need at the back end of the pen. Not Rogers or Coonrod.

  35. Carstie Clausen said, on September 8, 2020 at 10:21 pm

If MLB still has something like a comeback player of the year award, I have a candidate. Guess who? Hint: He’s been wearing orange and black for awhile and his number never did get to reach double digits.

  36. Winder said, on September 8, 2020 at 10:39 pm

    That was a great win.

  37. mrsprtdude said, on September 8, 2020 at 11:17 pm

Great win! No way do we win this game last year or the year before that. Fun!
