A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Season Halted

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 12, 2020

We were rolling along and all of a sudden, BAM! Fucking Covid. It doesn’t really matter who it is. Might make a decent story to hear, I guess. But the reality is our momentum has now come to a crashing halt. It did give me a chance to go find and post this clip:

So now, we sit and wait. We have all gotten pretty good at this this year so just sit down and do it.

In one of SF beat writers twitter accounts last night was something from Boras asking if it was true about Dickerson.

The current playoff picture, as of the moment.

    AL matchups
    No. 8 Yankees vs. No. 1 A’s
No. 7 Indians vs. No. 2 Rays
No. 6 Astros vs. No. 3 White Sox
No. 5 Blue Jays vs. No. 4 Twins

    NL matchups
No. 8 Giants vs. No. 1 Dodgers
No. 7 Marlins vs. No. 2 Braves
No. 6 Cardinals vs. No. 3 Cubs
No. 5 Phillies vs. No. 4 Padres

Cards lost to Cincy last night, so they are at .500. That puts them 8th Giants 7th Marlins 6th. Both SF and Miami 1 game over .500. Rox are game back of STL, Mets 1.5 back.

      MLB.com needs to update. 🙂

      • willedav said, on September 12, 2020 at 10:06 am

It is gonna change with every game Zum, pretty fluid right now. Giants could be in a crunch next week once they can get started playing, hopefully by Tuesday.

Well, at least the air quality is getting better. Looks like the Niner game will happen.

      Thank God.

Passan said pending approval by players, first round of games would be hosted by higher 4 seeds. So in NL that would be LA ATL CHI and SD for the 3 game series. Next round in bubble.

Giants reliever Caleb Baragar has also tested positive along with Dickerson for COVID-19..

Not sure what I looked forward to more as a kid-TWIB or The George Michael Sports Machine.

    • snarkk said, on September 12, 2020 at 12:01 pm

No Giants in that montage. Shocking…

  11. snarkk said, on September 12, 2020 at 12:00 pm

Probably going to be more than 2 Giants now, in the Covid Cooler. When I see dugout shots, some of those guys don’t wear masks, or have them half off. Hopefully we don’t find out they went out and did something stupid, out of protocols…

    • zumiee said, on September 12, 2020 at 12:30 pm

After these incidents, teams always say they’re going to be REAL careful now. After the fact.

      • zumiee said, on September 12, 2020 at 12:31 pm

Then they gradually loosen up again.

  12. zumiee said, on September 12, 2020 at 12:32 pm

Overall, MLB players have done pretty well. Better than I expected.

    • Bozo said, on September 12, 2020 at 2:23 pm

Yah, I agree. I don’t think I expected the season to even last a month.

  13. alleykat69 said, on September 12, 2020 at 12:56 pm

Bummer this didn’t happen a month ago and the 2 Giants infected were Pence&Panda..

    • Bozo said, on September 12, 2020 at 2:22 pm

I don’t think it would’ve helped their hitting.

Shocking news in the MLB world:

“If the A’s are going to accomplish their goal of bringing a World Series title back to Oakland this season, it’s going to have to come without their superstar.
The club announced on Saturday that Matt Chapman will undergo surgery on his right hip, which will likely end his season. Dr. Marc Philippon will perform the operation in Vail, Col., on Monday.”

  16. Zach Walling said, on September 12, 2020 at 5:29 pm

I don’t like that we are going to have to end our season with five games against the Padres in three days. Our playoff hopes will be decided in the last three days against a good team. Makes me nervous.

    • djloo27 said, on September 12, 2020 at 5:52 pm

Maybe they’ll go easy on us, Zach.
They should be locked in, looking to rest up, and set their rotation I guess…

  17. unca_chuck said, on September 12, 2020 at 5:55 pm

AK, I’m seeing no one else on the tesm tested positive. Where did you hear that?

  18. unca_chuck said, on September 12, 2020 at 6:04 pm

I’m hearing we are playing a DH tomorrow if all holds as of now. That Dick had 2 negative tests and that no one else on the team has tested positive. Per Bob Nightengale.

    • unca_chuck said, on September 12, 2020 at 6:11 pm

      Fior what that’s worth.

    • djloo27 said, on September 12, 2020 at 7:20 pm

Well WTF good is testing then?

  19. alleykat69 said, on September 12, 2020 at 7:19 pm

Sports Illustrated broke the scoop on Caleb saying he and Dickies were both COVID-19 positive.
So did SI totally blow it for my Jimmy Olsen (Dailey Planet)scoop moment??

  20. willedav said, on September 12, 2020 at 7:26 pm

Godson in SD just texted me DH tomorrow. Only 1 more game to make up
see if I can confirm this

  21. alleykat69 said, on September 12, 2020 at 7:30 pm

Why don’t they just play a triple header and been done with it? Ernie Banks let’s play 3!!

  22. willedav said, on September 12, 2020 at 7:50 pm

checking through twitter, Bob Nightengale of USA network said MLB told Giants and pads to prepare for DH tomorrow. Will be confirmed provided all retests come through negative.
Seems like Dickerson got false positive; the instant result tests maybe more vulnerable for this.

    • willedav said, on September 12, 2020 at 8:22 pm

thx Xoot that is so cool, beautiful cut just 3 singers guitar and bass. Mr. Hilton “Everybody wants to make a record.” One movie I went back and saw few times, once at old Varsity theatre on university downtown PA.

  24. zumiee said, on September 12, 2020 at 8:02 pm

“Well WTF good is testing then?”

That’s why multiple testing is important. The tests aren’t perfect.

  25. zumiee said, on September 12, 2020 at 8:08 pm

Jansen blows the save and gives up 4 runs. The game is on local Fox station.

  26. zumiee said, on September 12, 2020 at 8:12 pm

    Jansen’s 5th run scores.

  27. zumiee said, on September 12, 2020 at 8:27 pm

Dodgers lose to their buddies the Astros.

  28. alleykat69 said, on September 12, 2020 at 9:05 pm

How about Dickerson gets a free swing of his bat for the false test to the person involved.

  29. Carstie Clausen said, on September 12, 2020 at 9:21 pm

Early on during the crisis, Germany offered the U$ their testing equipment. Department decided we needed to do it on our own.

When I was down in the human warehouse/sardine can I must have been tested between two and three dozen times altogether. Never a positive, though three guys closest to my spot caught the virus–the one across the cinderblock wall died in the hospital. Must have developed some form of immunity.

But there were guys in pre-release quarantine who tested positive. In my estimation several of them were extremely doubtful. Recently I have read a number of articles about massive instances of false-positives…also that a lot of the deaths had the covid but more likely died from pre-existing conditions.

    • zumiee said, on September 12, 2020 at 9:32 pm

Those people died because of Covid-19. They had pre-existing conditions, but they would have lived longer if not for Covid-19.
