Spectacular Fall From The Top
If there is one thing you want to thank Z for it should be on not re-signing Bumgarner. That deal is now teetering on *worst mlb contract in history*. He has, by far, the worst ERA in the major leagues for pitchers who qualify. Timmy, Cain, Bum….what is it about Giants pitchers who completely fall apart when they hit their 30’s?
Are the Giants playing today? I thought yesterday and today got canceled but they’re listed as playing today. Seattle is listed as the home team.
The Giants are playing tonight as the visiting team in SF.
Yes, interesting about Bum and Giants pitchers in general.
Our boys were to start a two-game series in Seattle yesterday. Air quality canceled the game. They will play two in SF. Today at 6:40 and tomorrow at 1:10 (I think). Seattle will be the “home team,” bat 2nd, and wear home whites.
Need to get back in the W column. Things are tightening up. Cincy is .5 back. Brewers 1 back. Mets 2.5. 13 games left for us and the Brew. 12 for the Mets, and 10 for Cincy. Gonna be interesting.
Humm Baby!
Pavs says pending further evaluations Gausman could start as soon as Friday at A’s. smyly to start tonite.
Yes as Chi mentioned teams behind SF Cincy Rox Brewers all won last night and closed some ground.
These modern day starting pitchers just don’t have the shelf life of the veteran pitchers from the 60’s 70’s who pitched way into their 30’s with great success..
It’s the relievers who have the most success nowadays pitching into they’re 30’s. Hell the Giants had 3 of the best to help them win 3 W/S championships in Affeldt,Lopez&Romo. Another guy who’s career didn’t even start till he hit 30 was Dennis Eckersely when the A’s wisely turned him into a closer and he ended up being the best for along stretch and a MVP,HOF as well..
A W today and we are back to .500. I forgot to mention the Rox are also a game back. They play the A’s today. Go A’s.
Brewcrew has DH against Cards. Gotta pull for my childhood Cards.
Cincy plays the Pirates. Go Bucs! Mets vs. Phillies.
It has definitely become scoreboard watching time, at least for me. Lots of teams in the mix with 13 or fewer games for all of those teams vying for a WC spot.
The A’s picked a bad time to stop scoring runs.
Yeah, the Bum non-sign is looking good at this point.
As some of us said last year, the dude has mileage on that arm, even with the injuries giving him rest. The increasingly bad stats last year weren’t a mirage. Hopefully he can adjust to whatever the new normal is and work with what he’s got. But, another 4 seasons even at $17 million or whatever looks brutal, right now…
Count the innings on MadBum’s arm. He and Cain at least threw a shit-ton in their early 20s. Bummie isn’t making the adjustment to losing his fastball as Kershaw has. You could see even before the injury to his shoulder his HRs given up was steadily climbing. It got worse after the dirtbike crash.
We score, we playoffs.
The Schmidt deal and B-Weezy deals with the Dodgers, and this one are paying dividends to the G’s in a big way.
1. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
2. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
3. Wilmer Flores (R) DH
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Donovan Solano (R) 2B
6. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Joey Bart (R) C
9. Mauricio Dubon (R) CF
P Drew Smyly (L)
Giants lost their last off day (Thursday) with the postponement of yesterday’s game. They will now finish with 13 games in 12 days (there will be a DHer with the Padres to make-up the postponed game related to Dick’s false-positive). Four against the Rox now appears to be a huge series given the Rox are one game behind us for the 8th playoff slot.
I gotta be honest.
I’m not feelin’ it…
I am not as confident as I was prior to the San Diego series. That series showed the disparity of our team, and the next echelon of teams (we are like 4-17 against teams with a +.500 record).
But as I have viewed it all year…no expectations here. I am just going to continue to enjoy the ride, as this year has already far surpassed what I expected to see from our team.
Joey Bart hasn’t hit a homerun yet? Well doesn’t tonight feel like the night he gets his first?
Let’s hope.

Colo 22-26 with their loss today.
As long as we can hit the playoffs and take down the Dodgers, all will be great.
To all you Flappers out West, been thinking of you a lot. Beyond any bromides or platitudes, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and that you folks are somehow spared from the ill effects of hazardous air.
thanks PK. Today was the best day in weeks, I couldn’t even smell a hint of smoke
look at this bullshit
Well, it’s a little funny.
funny ha ha?
Liffmann read the blog to get this take?
It sucks, Pawlie. A friend outside of Eugene lost 2 barns, a detached garage, 2 jeeps, and a couple hundred acres of trees. Thankfully he got his 60 cows and other animals out of harm’s way, His house survived, but there’s a ton of cleanup coming. My sister’s ex lot his house in Ashland. And like Flav said, this was the first clear day in about 6 weeks. Since al this shit started.
The last couple of days have been the worse for smoke that we have had so far. There is no wind and it is just sitting low. there was supposed to be winds coming in from the west but nothing so far. Really nasty air up here. Most people are staying inside.
where’s that?
The Albany area.
Oregon
Where did he put his 60 cows? ….
A friend down the road has cows of his own. They were able to just walk them down a trail.
They’re saying we’re even getting some haze from it in Upstate NY. I had a pretty long conversation in 2015 or -16 with Twinfan. I recall they lost their house in Napa in minutes but never found a cat or two. Something like that.
Mickey the cat…
I’ve never seen a team make as many mental mistakes as the Mets. Conforto on first just got away with not knowing there were 2 outs on a ball hit off the wall in deep R-C, he ended up beating the throw to home anyway for the tying run on a play that shouldn’t have been close.
The Giants early this year were pretty bad. Physical and mental errors out the ass…
Go visitors!
Thank God we got a run across. Got to roll.
Go Giants!!
Wait. My ESPN feed says POSTPONED as Longoria had two strikes. What?
Must’ve been an error, or #fakenews
Be honest. Drew Smyly had to have been a character on Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood with a name like that.
Better than Mr. McFeely.
lulz…
Mac the Giants must be a close 2nd. Dubon is a dope at times..Killed a rally
I’d give a little slack on that one s-dude.
You hit a ball over the OF head, you gotta figure it’s an XBH…
All I’m wondering is if he ran out of the box. He wasn’t even close to making it and he’s got decent speed.
Ha, trust me, there is no close second to the Mets.
Maybe it’s just me, but it is weird seeing another Giants starting pitcher wear 18…especially a lefty.
Yup. Just said the same thing to my son.
Phillies lost.
At this point you wonder when one of young M’s hitters says to his buddies on way back to the dugout uh don’t swing at that curve with full count. Smyly got 4 of them first time through lineup.
I can’t believe it, mid-September and there’s no NBA/NHL playoff games tonight.
They have playoffs going on?
Yes, getting close to finals for both.
Belted!
Belted….Again….
Bongo Longo!
Longo bomb!
Back in the saddle again. Dick em with a double. Belt em outta the park, Longoball to follow and then double by Crawdaddy Borecore is en Fuego.
Nopes!
this SEA lf lopes looks lost. must be the infamously interminable SF twilight.
We could do a lot worse than Longo at 3B. What a beautiful swing that was.
Agree. I have thought that for some time. Remember Chris Brown?
hurt himself sleeping?
Seattle did miss a fly and a pop-up in the twilight. 🙂
this interminable twilight
These extra home games are going to be a blessing going down the stretch.Home team are visiting team should not matter your still at home..
The Giants just hit the shit outta the ball in this yard, this year. Amazing turnaround from last year.
If I was in a contest and drew Smyly , I’d conclude that Trevor was not as clever.
Kuiper said a couple of times tonight that some games were missed this season because of labor relations between the players and owners.
I have to ponder that.
I didn’t ponder it for long.
They argued too long.
Yaz splits the gap and Dubon was motoring for the run!
Nice work by both ..
Oh Dicky Boy 3 hits tonight rbi
The Dick and Yaz show last year in July was awesome, and showed what can happen when they both get hot at the same time.
Nice present. Enjoying this game even more than seeing my brother for the first time in four years and even the delicious German chocolate cake. Me and Mexico share a birthday. Haven’t been there yet, but if they let in Americans any more it would be fun to do a double celebration in the next year or two. I’m fascinated by Oaxaca.
Specifically the Huichol people. Some resonance with their alphabet and the artistic sensibilities of that people.
Huichols are up north round Nayarit. i used to see them in bus stations when i went there, to San Blas, to surf. Fascinating culture. Zapotecs and Mixtecs populate Oaxaca. Visit Monte Alban on a windy day and contemplate the ball yard.
Huichol are known for the influence of peyote in their culture and art. Dazzling colors.
Too bad Smyly could not go five. He clearly was running outta gas, with a high pitch-count, He pitched well, but has some catching up to do after all the games he missed.
They had Slymy on a pitch count.
There ya go, Bozo!
Barger coming into an 8-1 game…
How he left the game.
Nice life for Baragar who should vulture his 6th win after taking over for Smyly..6-1 starts looking good at contract talks..
cool shot. PK if you’re still lurking……
I remember the picture.
Oh fuck. Seriously, Caleb?
8-1, the lead Bumgarner lost mid-game.
This is your fault.
Smyly couldn’t stay in to get one more out?
He was on a pitch count but this is ridiculous.
Can’t Smyly count his own pitches?
Wow.
Fucking shit!
Christ, 3 straight waks. See ya, stiff.
Wait for the grand slam before you crack up…
There will be no vulture win for a ineffective wild walk performance from Baragar!! Just throw strikes dickwad!! And now your out!
Could be Barager was too intent on pitching the 5th to vulture his sixth that he forgot he only had to get one out in the 4th.
Jeeeeeeeebus. Nice pitch to end it, but took too long to get there,
A pitcher has to be the one finishing the 5th inning to vulture the win.
Oops, I misunderstood. Everyone knew that. Nevermind.
I believe if he’s effective (which of course Baragar was not) he could of got the 3rd out to end the 4th and it’s a judgement call by the scorers , but I might be wrong and u have to finish the 5th as well?
You’re right that, technically, by rule, the scorekeepers can give it for earlier innings, but they usually follow the tradition of the 5th inning.
They did give Affeldt the win in Game 7 of the ‘14 World Series even though Bum pitched the 5th and onward.
I don’t think Bart gets a HR this year. He’s close to 70 AB’ s now. Maybe he just doesn’t want to tarnish Kuiper’s career number of 1..
He did miss an HR by a few inches a while back.
He needs to figure out how not to let the pitcher steal strike one. 3 straight ABs tonight, pitchers threw curves on the first pitch to him and stole strike one. He needs to crush one of those first-pitch curves for an HR. He’s starting off 0-1 all the time.
He had 315 career ABs as a Giant.
Zero homers…
Bart has a good arm. No splash hit yet. But some CSs.
In the twilight of his career, we’ll look back fondly on all those CS’s.
it’ll be interminable
Yeah, Bart’s only 23 and he can drive the ball better, but he’s got 3 doubles, a 1 triple and 14 singles. Not a lot of power yet.
That was a nice throw from Bart.
Giants PR staff is playing walkup music for the Mariners becz they’re “home.” That’s cool. But how the fuck can you play for Seattle and not select Hendrix?
Forget Hendrix.
These players are too young to remember 90’s grunge…
Bet they wouldn’t give us Hendrix ‘rendition of the National Anthem at Woodstock.
the screaming missiles and exploding bombs version? Giants might go for that, closer to election day.
Mudbug bomb!
Craw bomb!
Honky Power!
Craw and Belt are diggin’ the new dimensions of the ballpark.
Sometimes I get these flashes of intuition, esp or something while following a game. Had it briefly when Crawdaddy was coming to the box. It’s happened several times before. Never did get into gambling, but if somebody who played the horses, poker or sports gambling did that from time to time, what would stop him from getting greedy and letting imagination rather than intuition run rampant,
Oh no.
Coonrod lucked out there.
of course the batter did too
A 98.4 mph sinker? If Coonrod could ever get his head in synch with his talent he could be just about the nastiest Boy in town,
Idiotic leaving him in the game no matter how he feels…
he passed the test. they asked him who the president is and he said …. oh, wait
It’s amazing that it still isn’t automatic.
Yep, unfortunately Loo they do it in all sports…
99 off the helmet ⛑ yikes!
Coonrod obviously 🙄 isn’t ready for the closer gig..
