A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Taking The L Train

Cueto was awful. And this improbable season seems to be settling into something fairly predictable. Yaz is proving to be the MVP of the team. Without him, fairly rudderless.

If the season ended today they would have surpassed my expectations. And Kapler, after a horrendous beginning, has turned into something not really that noticeable—probably the best thing you can hope for in a good manager.

Kokonuts just sent me this pic of him and Dennis Z having lunch. He says afterwards they played catch. Am I imagining this or is Dennis Z the dude who always started his comments here by telling us he takes a shot of whiskey each morning before saluting the flag? Eh, that’s a lil’ different than how we roll out here in the am but I will always proudly salute a fellow Giants fan.

Kapler’s intuition goes into overdrive and eases a tense situation as BB9 blasts his tenth double in our daily doubles destruction derby.

How the fuck does a major league team with a 13 man pitching staff not have a single lefty in the pen?

Brewers and Cincy again tomorrow. Both at .500. We’ll be .500 with a W. Crazy assed race to the finish…

Yep Flavor that would be me taking that shot in the morning while saluting the Giants flag on my garage…you have a good memory.
Had a late night softball game and picked a good time to post with the Boys doing it in the 7th now.
As you can see, Paulie and I had a good meeting (tried to convince him to join a Senior Softball league up in part of NY). I can only say it was great meeting him for the 1st time back in 2011 (I think?) in Cooperstown for a Giants celebration.

Purrfect night at the plate for Slater: Trio of walks, wearing out the pitchers…A soft but successful single and to begin the fireworks, a leadoff homer. Nice having him around. If he can stay healthy and provided Yaz is good to go, things could just maybe, possibly, somehow get interesting in Postseason.

    Winner!

    As Jackie Gleason would say….

Coonrod is intriguing with those sizzlers. Maybe some sessions overwinter with a sports psychologist/hypnotist could transmute him into our very own Nasty Boi. Sometimes that red meat can be a treat in high heat.

PH bats sure came through for Kap, Robertson in LF too. Gained on almost everyone too. Unfortunate Luis beisbol strained hamstring. Giants are moving into local hotel, including some who might be added into roster from Sac alternate site.
I remember Ed Bailey, he caught for Reds either before or after Giants.
Great pic of Pawlie and Dennis Z. Very cool D still plays softball.

Bailey was a Red for several years before the Giants. That late 50’s Cincinnati team had sluggers like Gus Bell, segueing into FrankRobinson, but was a bit short on the mound with their most notable pitcher being Joe Nuxall who made his ML debut during my wartime birth year of ’44. He was SIXTEEN years old at the time. Anyone think they let him near the clubhouse suds? If a kid that young hit The Show in today’s world he would probably be constantly monitored by a social worker lest he pick up bad habits or something. Nuxall pitched for the Reds for years and after that became their radio color-man.

That was a really nice win last night. Cahill scares me but things turned out just fine. i thought he was gonna hit a batter that would have loaded the bases, that knuckle curve gets a little wild at times.

Oh man the legendary Gale Sayers has passed away!
Heartbreaking he was such a great player, he was like poetry
    in motion
when he had the pigskin, making moves and cutbacks like no other in a career sadly shorten by knee injuries.I remember him scoring 6 TD’s in one game, incredible!
RIP Gayle Sayers you will be sorely missed!!

      Well said, Kat…

Yep, he was an amazing RB. My favorite memory of him was at the east-west game at Kezar. It was a mudball game the field was in bad shape and he still ran over everyone. Probably the best RB I have ever seen. RIP
