A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Disgusting Loss

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 26, 2020

This is my second attempt at writing today’s thread. The first time I sat down opened my laptop, couldn’t type anything, closed my laptop and went to buy bagels. I have now returned to try again……

The one thing that is clear as day is that Kap doesn’t know how to manage his bullpen. He seems to have a pre-set idea of what he’s going to do in the later innings no matter what the moment is. I wonder how much influence Andrew Bailey has in these decisions. If the answer is “not much” maybe he needs more……

“out of adversity comes opportunity.”

It’s entirely possible that the post season will be that much sweeter if we make it because of last night. Let’s see what happens today.

What the actual fuck was that, Dubon? You are down 3 with Yaz at the plate?

    Fucking brilliant.

  2. Macdog said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:36 pm

    Fucking stupid.

  3. unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:36 pm

Holy shit. That went bad in a hurry.

  4. xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:36 pm

Just when doobie starts to look like a legit starter, he does something like that.

  5. James said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:36 pm

Now I’m really not feeling it.

  6. sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:38 pm

    What a dumb ass.

  7. James said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:41 pm

Joey Bart is grateful he’s not catching tonight.

    • xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:43 pm

Well yeah but so is Cueto

      • James said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:45 pm

His good arm wouldn’t have stood for anything less than a direct hit.

      • xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:49 pm

Don’t under estimate the mystical defensive powers of the quasi dreads.

    • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:49 pm

The Giants’ analytics team evaluates the impact of catchers’ performances on Cueto’s pitching.

      • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:50 pm

        They find it inconclusive.

      • xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:59 pm

You mean Cueto has no CGs this year? I think they are correct.

  8. zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:52 pm

The Padres aren’t even supposed to be caring about these games this weekend.

  9. sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:52 pm

Re Baggs: that is for sure. Its obvious he fucking hates Coonrod for not kneeling and for sharing his religious beliefs. I think bloggers on here would also go easier on him if he bent the knee and kept his mouth shut.

    • xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:05 pm

Baggs tweeted about coondog dodging the press too. He compared the cur, excuse me, the coondog to Wilmet and doobie, who both faced the press after terrible gaffes. Baggs said there’s clearly a difference between “a stand up guy and a standup guy.” I’m glad to see it. Maybe after coondog’s pastor tells him what to think about it all we’ll hear from him.

  10. James said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:53 pm

Loo, you didn’t tell us Wilmer has bore core speed.

    • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:54 pm

      I think he did, actually.

      • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:57 pm

Back in the day, we called that a Piano Man. Running like he’s carrying a piano.

  11. Macdog said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:54 pm

Giants also announce Dubon is this year’s recipient of the Ruben Rivera award.

    • sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:57 pm

      Gold!

  12. mrsprtdude said, on September 26, 2020 at 7:59 pm

    Augh!

  13. James said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:00 pm

Dunno, Lurker J might stand as a strong counter argument to that proposition, SD.

  14. mrsprtdude said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:01 pm

    Foulde off 8 pitches. damn

  15. mrsprtdude said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:01 pm

Fouled off. Damn I’m not even drinking!

  16. sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:04 pm

I was hanging out with several Padre fan friends last night and they relished the idea of eliminating the Giants and feel the Padre players do too…..cuz of the way Giant fans regularly take over Petco.

    • unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:05 pm

      Like that’s our fault.

      • xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:10 pm

Have you ever been to a Giants game at the E Coli? It’s easy to understand why a’s fans hate the Giants and why a’s players love to beat them.

      • unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:20 pm

Oh yeah. When the G’s played in the Stick, the Mausoleum was considered a better experience. At least before Mt Davis was built. First time I was there was simply to see Ted Williams manage the Senators around 1970.

Now it’s the crypt that it has always been.

    • James said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:15 pm

The fans, makes sense, but that assumes some kind of identity the current roster feels with the proud Padres teams of yore.

  17. unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:08 pm

    Come on. Beat these fuckers.

  18. Macdog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:11 pm

At least I have two crazy kittens tearing around the house to entertain me.

    • Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:03 pm

      fuck yeah! I love cats.

  19. mrsprtdude said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:12 pm

They are banging up on us because they can. Thur and Fridays losses the death blow. My only consulation? If we had been asked..How many would have thought at worst we will be tied for the last playoff spot on the last day of the year??? At the beginning of the year? , or when we were 8-16? Go Giants!

    • sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:24 pm

My over under for wins was 23.5, so I got no complaints.

  20. djloo27 said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:16 pm

I have all the respect in the world for Amy G, but it’s really time for a change…

    • Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:04 pm

she’s so played out and I have no respect for her and always found her amazingly average.

  21. zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:17 pm

Someone asked me today if I thought the baseball season would be back to normal next year. I said I’m starting to doubt it. Spring Training is supposed to start in 5 months. I’m doubtful.

    • unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:25 pm

They got this much done without too many problems

      • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:27 pm

The players were willing to play 60 games under these conditions. More next season?

    • James said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:26 pm

I just changed the earthquake emergency water today, which needs changing every 6 months. I didn’t put a date on the containers because I know they’ll need changing again around opening day… assuming the Hayward fault doesn’t go off before the end of 2020.

  22. sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:19 pm

Have not been to E Coli since the ice plant went away.
Mixed feelings about ever going again. Even as a lifelong Giants fan, lots of great memories in that building.

  23. unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:22 pm

Yeah, I haven’t been since they built Mt Davis. Well, no, I did see a Raider game there about 7 years ago. I think the last A’s game I saw was to see Jeffrey Leonard playing for Seattle.

    • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:25 pm

I went to an A’s game while they were building the Mt. in ‘96. Baseball game going on, and guys in hard-hats working on the Mt.

  24. willedav said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:28 pm

    Rare rough night for Solano.

  25. sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:29 pm

Is it true there was a legit baseball reason for wacking Smarge a day before the season ended…..like to add someone to the 40 man?

    • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:31 pm

They went through the reasons in the pre-game show, but I can’t remember what was said.

  26. James said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:30 pm

Bore core speed temporarily to the rescue.

  27. unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:30 pm

Saw an A’s game when the bash bros were in full swing in a game against the Red Sox. Back and forth tense game, with about 30,000 fans, and the loudest cheers were for dot racing. It seemed surreal that the fans didn’t seen to really be paying attention to the game. At the time, 12,000 at the Stick made more noise than the 30,000 there. I thought it was very strange.

    • Winder said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:38 pm

I used to love going to A’s game when Billy Martin was managing. Every weekend the Giants were out of town Me and my better half would go to A’s games. Rickey Henderson to me is one of the best ballplayers i have ever seen.

  28. unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:33 pm

    Bore core time.

  29. Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:33 pm

Wilmet is Loo’s greatest call of all time.

  30. Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:35 pm

Longoria smokes fucking pole. Fuck him.

  31. Winder said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:35 pm

    We had a shot.

  32. Macdog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:36 pm

    Longo back to Tampa.

    • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:37 pm

Tampa has been diggin’ that trade for years.

      • sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:39 pm

Textbook example of when/how to ditch a popular player.

  33. willedav said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:40 pm

Wilmet narrowed the gap another clutch hit. Now Watson has to keep it there. Oh fuck Pham homers.

  34. Macdog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:40 pm

    There’s your 6 runs, Xoot.

    • xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:43 pm

      Time to hit. I guess.

  35. James said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:41 pm

Watson’s shoulder seems to be ailing him.

  40. mrsprtdude said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:44 pm

maybe kap was no too far off with conrood…

  41. mrsprtdude said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:46 pm

They all on fumes. Our starters suck:(

  42. willedav said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:46 pm

Tampa, never a big market $$ team, sent back $2 mil each season of Longo’s deal. Plus they took Span to whom they owed $9-10 mil for his last season in the deal. Then when they traded Span and Colome to Seattle they sent back a couple more mil to M’s.
Lesson there for Giants ownership, who of course aren’t listening.

    • sandog said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:52 pm

Longo was Sabes taking one last crack at winning with the bore core. At the time it seemed to me like a chance worth taking. Obviously has not worked out well.

      • xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:03 pm

Yeah that’s a good take. And Longo does fit right in. He’s a good player who’s seen better days. A good pro on the skids. But not a liability because the Giants have no one to replace him. So . . . .

  43. willedav said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:49 pm

Pads have already beaten SF 6 out of 8. Now they are rubbing it in as Giants can’t get off the field.

  44. unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:52 pm

Wow. So much for the lefties.

  45. mrsprtdude said, on September 26, 2020 at 8:58 pm

Just looked. In 9 games pads have scored 54 runs. Exactly 6 per game. We better score 7 tomorrow

  46. djloo27 said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:02 pm

    • James said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:11 pm

If the Giants win, so do the Brewers. If the Brewers lose, so do the Giants.

  47. Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:09 pm

i had my daughter over for dinner tonight so I missed most of this. I had to move her to her boyfriend’s about a month ago. Hated having to do that in her senior year but we had to do it. Her grandpa has lung cancer and he’s getting treatment at Stanford and he’s living with us. This dude can’t get Covid or, really, anything lung related.Anyway grand dad is in full time, Katie is out. At least till we get a vaccine or we can move him back to Sun Valley.
Life is pretty terrible. I’m not sweating the Giants imploding I’m sitting her happy with what I got and the people still in my life that are alive…..

    • chipower9 said, on September 27, 2020 at 6:21 am

Awesome post, Flav. Tough times. Wishing your family all the best brother.

And after last night’s game, I share your sentiments on the season (not sweating it). Had no expectations and the team made it the most entertaining year in a while.

  48. unca_chuck said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:10 pm

Well, it was a wholly unexpected run, so on the whole it was a good year, but I still don;t feel like Kappy has a clue where it comes to his pen.

  49. Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:12 pm

and if you read my 9:09 and still have questions which even I did after I read it, Katie is the big risk. She works, she goes to school she has a boyfriend, I just can’t have her here in the house with an 86 year old who is fighting, and hopefully winning, lung cancer. So, she had to go. She was cool with it she knows what’s up. She had mono in August she’s still fighting the lethargy from that. Man, what else can go wrong?

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:17 pm

Right move, Craig. Is this the same boyfriend she had before and was unhappy you weren’t allowing much contact? Or new bf?

      • Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:24 pm

started dating him during the pandemic. This dude is solid and legit. And they totally love each other and I trust her with him.Like I said, had to do it but hated to do it, I can’t stand that she’s 10 miles south every moment of the day. And she wants to come back there’s no doubt she’s homesick. I know they’re in love but she’s living in a shitty apartment next to a power plant in Sunnyvale, she is doing this under a little bit of protest to be sure, lol

    • xoot said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:24 pm

Wow. My two young adult sons are all I really care about these days. But they have it easier than that. So far. Could change any moment. My mother died in May, it was time and not Covid. So I’m alone. No other responsibilities. But I wake up every day expecting the worst. It’s a hard time. My best to you, your daughter, and her grandfather. Our pre – existing condition is life. Let’s survive this thing.

      • Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:29 pm

thanks. And you hang in there, Xoot. There is a covid hangover that we’re all suffering through and I don’t think we acknowledge it in the moment we’ve just gotten used to living in it. But this shit is going to end, we are all going to be ok as long as we stay safe and healthy. And we’ve gone this long we might as well just fucking do it, right? I know the fall/winter is going to be a new unknown road to travel. Fuck it, let’s roll

  50. Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:15 pm

and it’s Wendy’s dad, not my dad.

  51. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:28 pm

Craig, your 9:12 “Man, what else can go wrong?” is the enduring question of this fucked up year. I don’t know how many times this year I’ve muttered “What now?”… it just never ends. Much of Faulkner’s writing was all about surviving. Enduring. “We endure”. Yes we do….

    • Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:33 pm

hey, I am a thankful person. I appreciate the moment and the things I still have. But this has been the most fucked up year in nearly every aspect of my life. I can’t believe how much things have changed for the worse. But it really is what it is. What am I supposed to do, I can’t turn back the hands of time. Just gotta hope shit changes at some point.

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:37 pm

The Vietnamese have a saying, “po tay” … simply means “hands are tied”, “what can you do”. And they always say it with a smile and carry on.

      • Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:38 pm

“hands are tied”. I love that. It literally was what it was. And she gets it. Everyone gets it but what can we do? Dude needs to be at Stanford, can’t be in Sun Valley, there’s no way around this……

  52. Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:37 pm

I told Katie, look you can quit your job and stop seeing your boyfriend (and stay on distance learning) or you can stay in the house. It really wasn’t a choice, come on, what 17 year old is going to choose that? She understood the choice and understood why she had to go. It’s just totally fucking sucks man, I walk by her room 50 times a day and just feel like a piece of shit that I sent my only kid out of the house and she’s still in fucking high school……

  53. Macdog said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:43 pm

Damn, Flav, I can’t imagine dealing with all that. Hang in there and, yeah, let’s try to get through this shitty year.

    • Flavor said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:46 pm

thanks. I also got a 13 year old cat on the ropes and if he goes down, man, just not this year. That’s why your post about kitties got me!

      • Macdog said, on September 26, 2020 at 9:50 pm

The kitties are my daughter’s. There’s four cats in all, one we’ve had for a long while, the other a one-eyed tuxedo we got this year. There were five, but we had to put him down a couple months ago.

  54. zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 10:03 pm

My father-in-law’s house and property sustained damage in the North Complex Fire. He can’t even go up there yet to see for himself the full extent. Those areas are blocked off and have to be declared safe by authorities at some point. Fortunately the insurance company has provided a hotel room until a longer-range plan gets decided on. There may not be electrical power lines up in the burned areas for a long time. And his water pump was badly damaged, too, so that has to be dealt with. He’s in his 70s and has to decide if he wants to commit to still living in that area in the future.

    • zumiee said, on September 26, 2020 at 10:07 pm

At this time and moment, he wants to stay in that general area. He has a lot of relatives in that general area.

  55. mrsprtdude said, on September 26, 2020 at 11:42 pm

Hang in there Craig. Both my kids live out of state and i miss them. Hopefully the pads will rest some players and we can pull this out. Cards in a must win too so lets go!
