A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Post Season Ball Let’s Go!!!!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 29, 2020

I can’t make any sense of this bracket, at least in terms of who I think will win it all:

Everyone thinks The Reds are overmatched. What if Bauer fires a gem in game 1, which he absolutely could, and they take command of that series? Or Bieber tonight vs the Yankees? To me, and I know this is contrary to how I look at the state of *today’s game*, most of these series will come down to how the aces do–because there really aren’t that many aces. Toronto is going with a freaking opener today for mud’s sake.

Will also be interested to see if the A’s lay another post season egg. I’m not looking it up but they have been pretty terrible the last several years whenever they make the post season (which, if memory serves has mostly been in the play-in game?)

Hey, we got wall to wall baseball the next 2 days. Screw the Giants, enjoy this!

I think the division winner that the best chance to lay an egg are the Cubs and then the Braves. I will predict a Pads-Twins World Series with Pads winning their first Series.

That Indians-Yankee series is the most interesting one..

The A’s would seem to have the less difficult road to the ALCS, not having to deal with the Rays and Yanks on their end of the bracket. That is, if they can ever get past the first round.

I can’t see the Dodgers losing to the Brewers, who are not a good team. Maybe if Woodruff is on for his start, they can get to a Game 3. Not sure if anyone in NL can beat L.A., though it’d be funny if it ended up being the Marlins who knocked them out.

  3. willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 7:06 am

A’s are at least 0-5 in their last playoff Series. This year BA is way down. I think they hit .225 as a team and no Chapman. Sox have plenty of power.

    • Macdog said, on September 29, 2020 at 7:24 am

Yes, 0-5 in their most recent playoff series/WC games. Going back further, since 2000 the A’s are 1-10 in playoff series/WC games, their lone series win vs. the Twinkies in ’06.

  4. xoot said, on September 29, 2020 at 7:12 am

The a’s have a cultural advantage. They’re used to quiet ballparks and tarps. No Chapman, however. Luzardo is the SP today. Good rookie. Bob Melvin was griping about the early (noon) start time. That means everyone had to get to the ballpark at 6:30 am this morning for Covid testing. Of course, the White Sox have the same problem. The Sox have two of the AL’s best SPs going back to back. They’re the 7th seed yet they finished only a game or two behind Oakland. Looks like Sox in two to me. And keep an eye on Madrigal, the Sox 2B drafted right behind Bart in 2018.

    • Flavor said, on September 29, 2020 at 7:51 am

“they’re used to quiet ballparks and tarps” lmao, very true.

      • chipower9 said, on September 29, 2020 at 8:19 am

Yeah, that had me LOL, too. But true.

  5. xoot said, on September 29, 2020 at 7:19 am

Speaking of drafts, I saw today that the Giants’ first pick next year will be 14th. That’s the down side of a surprisingly entertaining half ass season. They picked Bishop at 10 this year. Have some faith in Z, I suppose.

  6. willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 7:35 am

At least this opens up chance for some new blood to sneak into next round.
“New Blood” off Robt. Cray’s Strong Persuader, great tune.

Question for East Coast: I saw funny commercial with Aaron Judge, who admits to being California guy trying to blend in, asked to test his NYC accent on some words/phrases. Thoughts?

    • xoot said, on September 29, 2020 at 7:46 am

Good CD. I used to see R Cray in the basement club at Larry Blake’s on Telegraph back in the 80s.

    • Macdog said, on September 29, 2020 at 7:56 am

I haven’t seen the Judge ad.

    • chipower9 said, on September 29, 2020 at 8:20 am

Good call on Robert Cray. I have seen him numerous times going back to those days. Dude can flat make a guitar sing the blues.

  7. Bozo said, on September 29, 2020 at 8:12 am

Wouldn’t it be great if Pete Rose won the Bracket Challenge?

    • chipower9 said, on September 29, 2020 at 8:17 am

      LMAO…THAT would be fucking hilarious.

    • alleykat69 said, on September 29, 2020 at 11:56 am

      Hilarious Clown!
Does he bet on the Reds are against??

  8. chipower9 said, on September 29, 2020 at 8:17 am

I saw this a couple of days ago. I have not followed the other teams much (outside of those who the Giants played), other than a few articles here and there.

I have a bum-White Sox WS, with the Sox winning it all. Yeah, and monkeys could fly outta mys ass. This was a true flyer by me…I don’t expect my picks to go anywhere, but WTF, it’ll be fun to follow it.

    • Flavor said, on September 29, 2020 at 9:46 am

i sent the White Sox all the way thru, too. I have them beating LA. I actually almost put LA as the winner because I thought it would be hilarious to watch them break their 3 decade+ streak during a sham season but, in the end, I chose to just watch them go down again…….

      • chipower9 said, on September 29, 2020 at 10:58 am

Hey – great minds think alike, Flav. We can split the pot. 😉

  9. willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 11:16 am

Just the way opening rounds are formatted with few days off, pitching depth along with having aces hold serve will definitely matter. Nats got from WC all the way through last year with 3 great SPs; that wouldn’t work this season. So see who’s SPs hold up, pens too.

Some really weird stuff going on here.

    • chipower9 said, on September 29, 2020 at 12:22 pm

That’s hilarious Dirt. They must have been drinking or smoking some really good shit back then.

I love this old stuff you dig up…

Sold it at an antique show. Book was from the 60’s or 70’s of two centuries back and called “Athletic Sports”. When I purchased the old leather-bound item at some down the road antique store, the bindings were shot but otherwise ok. Had a friend who was into book-binding and got that taken care of. Paid more for the service than for the book. It had some beautiful lithographs, some depicting baseball as it was back in the day–but no cartoons.

I like Tampa Bay to win it all! They have probably the best starting pitching in baseball with damm good arms in the BP. With a manager in Kevin Cash that gets the most out of his team, a really solid manager.A really good run organization..
They will face the perennial chokers in the Dodgers who doesn’t have a manager that’s solid, so his usual dunce cap award will come into to play as usual like his team..

    Rays in 6
Oh and fuck the Astros for even allowed to participate in the playoffs! Hope the Twins bounce the cheating scoundrels in a Sweep 🧹

  12. Macdog said, on September 29, 2020 at 12:24 pm

Good thing Twins-Astros started early, Greinke might stretch this game ’til midnight.

  13. willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 12:25 pm

Interested to see how Luzardo does. fangraphs has bunch of good columns on matchups–one of them notes how well Sox did vs. LHP. Luzardo seems like A’s version of J Sanchez–hard thrower good stuff (with fewer walks) who sometimes can’t get out of difficulty.
Looking back, seems like every other appearance he gives up 3-4 runs in limited innings, with good ones such as 5 shutout innings vs. SF, in between.

Twins seem to have most unhonkified (7) LU in all baseball, Sox close behind with 6.

  14. willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 12:31 pm

First bomb of playoffs by Sox Engel solo shot in 2nd.

    • Macdog said, on September 29, 2020 at 12:53 pm

      Second bomb by Abreu.

Beautiful day for baseball in Oaktown today. Ball’s carrying pretty well, it seems.

      Thru 6.

  17. alleykat69 said, on September 29, 2020 at 1:55 pm

Giolito now perfect thru 6!! Stuff is filthy, between the slider and the heater..

  18. xoot said, on September 29, 2020 at 2:03 pm

Top of the order third time through now.

  19. Macdog said, on September 29, 2020 at 2:07 pm

North side Bombers, these team is loaded with sluggers..

  24. pawliekokonuts said, on September 29, 2020 at 2:41 pm

John Thorn, with that ol’ lithograph above, is or was head of SABR.

  25. pawliekokonuts said, on September 29, 2020 at 2:45 pm

I’m conflicted; more accurately, indifferent. Would like Rays to win it all, only because they helped launch my writing career and I came to have some friends down there. I’d like the A’s to progress simply because I just read Moneyball. I’m looking for some validation for Billy Beane. But Magnus has a good point: do youj really want to win it all in Covidyear? Especially if it’s your first time. That’s a weighty asterisk.

What’s this about playing at neutral sites?

I struggled with this. I believe stage right or left is from the actor’s perspective.

I want an ad to play with a bunch of famous pro athletes, various sports, in their uniforms, all taking a knee and saying in unison to the camera: “I pay more than $750. We all pay more than $750. A lot more!”

When I try to think of reasons why I would like to live at least another 10 years, number one might be that Patrick Mahomes is the QB of my football team…

    • willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 3:29 pm

Defending Super Bowl Champs thrashed highly touted Jackson and Ravens last night.

      • djloo27 said, on September 29, 2020 at 3:32 pm

        So I’ve heard!

      • alleykat69 said, on September 29, 2020 at 3:45 pm

Yeah I was in a battle last night in fantasy football trailing only by 3 pts, I have Jackson the other team Mahomes and the Ravens at home if that even matters now in football with no fans that could make a difference.Anyway Mahomes just showed how much more he is superior and he was unstoppable finishing up with 40 pts to Jackson’s 14 points as I got crushed.Chiefs own the Ravens no doubt about it!!

  30. willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 3:27 pm

don’t really have a rooting interest, except for against. A’s are up there at top of list for me. their fans have been letting Giants have it for some time now, as they have been ascending during Giants last 4 years of decline.
Plus they took it to SF this season=more gloating.

Giants came back from adversity in 2012–let’s see how A’s handle it.

    • djloo27 said, on September 29, 2020 at 3:31 pm

Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish whether it’s the team or their fans that you really can’t stand…

      • willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 4:33 pm

announcers too. The other Kuiper is worse than Giants guy and the color guy Braden is know it all annoying.
Fosse is too boring to be annoying, even when he does chime in.

  31. Macdog said, on September 29, 2020 at 4:26 pm

Didn’t take long for Bieber to wilt at the sight of the Yankees.

  32. willedav said, on September 29, 2020 at 4:28 pm

fangraphs said something about Yankees not hitting near as well on road. According to B/R they scored 67 fewer runs 191 vs.124 on road than at home.
didn’t seem to bother Judge who whacked first pitch he saw out of the yard, off Bieber no less.

Loo your boys look even better than last year. D has held up and new rook running back looks great. Mahomes just shredded Balt last night, throwing short, deep and evading rush. that was not a chump team. Division not real tough either though SD gave them all they could handle. And til somebody knocks them off…

    • Macdog said, on September 29, 2020 at 4:59 pm

Now 3-0. Justin Bieber would be better than this ass clown.

  33. pawliekokonuts said, on September 29, 2020 at 5:18 pm

    • Macdog said, on September 29, 2020 at 5:53 pm

    • zumiee said, on September 29, 2020 at 9:16 pm

Some of it is their broadcasters. The Other Kuiper (trademark-Willie) and Fosse are annoying. I don’t mind Braden just because I think he tries to make up for Fosse’s drabness.
I have no idea what the A’s fascination with Fosse is.
