A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Redemption?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 6, 2020

I gotta admit, Dusty’s Astros are starting to grow on me a little bit. I like people/teams that overcome adversity. And all the A’s do is strikeout. Who doesn’t still love Dusty? At this point I can confidently say I am no longer rooting AGAINST the Astros.

We are probably the only two outside of Houston, but I’m with ya.

    • willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:43 am

Dusty looked good in that orange top uni too with wrist bands. Hey if you’re the A’s and don’t like Astros then go out and beat them straight up and stop whining over shit from 3 yrs ago. It’s f-ing tired. Oakland handled regular season series against them 7-3, yet with everything on line came up ant small yesterday.

      • Bozo said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:06 am

        Yep.

  2. willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:10 am

Dusty making all right moves so far juggling his pitching staff to knock out Twins and stifle A’s yesterday after Oakland got lead off McCullers. Hey this is who A’s wanted. so put up or shut up. No trash cans or video feeds yesterday. Houston raked bombs off SP and pen, and got big rally when given opportunity.

  3. willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:16 am

Yanks have been scary good so far. They hammered Indians pitching, among best in AL and whacked bombs off Snell yesterday. Frazier smoked a high hard one and Judge crushed a hanging breaking ball. That one got out in nano second. Their lineup is solid and #9 guy homered too.

Pads are good story so far, but if they are down an SP or two I can’t see them getting past LA. um, I can see where this is headed for near unwatchable WS.

Whenever some crime or scam is solved or uncovered, I always imagine the countless others that haven’t been. That’s kind of how I feel about the Astros. They just got caught.
    I’m all good with Dusty…

    • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:43 am

Easy to be magnanimous with 3 trophies…

    • Carstie Clausen said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:00 am

Perhaps Dusty has learned a thing or two since ought-two about managing his pitchers.

      • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:17 am

And he’s added to his disaster list since.
Between him and Mauch for most snakebit manager ever?

  5. xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 10:53 am

Lureano should be randomly banging a dugout trash can lid when Houston’s AB. Rile things up.

But I also was surprised to feel no animosity toward the Asterisks yesterday. I even liked the in game interview with Dusty. Oakland misses Chapman but this still should be their semi demi quasi “year.”

  6. chipower9 said, on October 6, 2020 at 11:42 am

I am over the Stros sign-stealing shenanigans of ’17 and ’18, and will always appreciate Dusty. I am pretty indifferent on this series, but find myself pulling ever so slightly for the A’s. And yes, they seriously pissed down their leg, yesterday.

I actually would like to see the Rays get in and represent the jr. circuit. Ideally, I want to see the Rays-Friars. Again…new blood.

  7. alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2020 at 12:37 pm

I can’t get over the Asstros scandal and they’re pompous attitudes of “We against the World BS”
This team ends up catching a huge break with the pandemic and no fans in the stands to give them the wrath they of shit they deserved. I can give Dusty slack because he wasn’t involved in this despicable organization, but I can’t stand looking at those smug faces of Bregman&Altuve,Springer&Correa knowing they disgraced the game! Fuck those guys and the horse they rode in on!!
1 game doesn’t win a series as the A’s proved against the Chicago Whitesox’s down 1-0 to win the next 2, so they can do it against this cheating bunch in a best of 5 starting tonight.

    • chipower9 said, on October 6, 2020 at 12:55 pm

Don’t sugar coat is Kat…tell us how you REALLY feel. 😉

    2020 can fuck right off

    • chipower9 said, on October 6, 2020 at 1:01 pm

Fuck… that SUCKS! Damn…FUCK YOU 2020…FUCK YOU ALL THE WAY TO HELL.

  9. xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 1:11 pm

Anyone heard from essential worker Sarge lately? I think he said he was an ultrasound tech at Highland Hosp. here in Oaktown. Most of the non MDs there are planning to go on strike this week. Odd time for managing corporations to squeeze med workers.

    • sfsarge said, on October 6, 2020 at 1:20 pm

Hey Xoot. I’m still kind of around. I haven’t been on the flap much lately, got a lot BS going on right now. Yes we go on strike starting tomorrow. Been negotiating for 9 months and they haven’t budged on anything. Lots of takeaways, no compromises.

      • xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 1:24 pm

Good luck, man. They should be giving all of you big-time raises, imo.

      • alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2020 at 1:43 pm

Best of luck to you Sarge!
And I agree with Xoot wholeheartedly that raises are certainly justified in this pandemic world where people like you and your co workers put your lives on the line without wavering! You people are true heroes and management should recognize that and do the right thing!!

      • xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 1:57 pm

        Well said, Kat.

    • sfsarge said, on October 6, 2020 at 3:45 pm

I appreciate the well wishes everyone. Thank you.

    Eddie Van Halen dead???
No sugar coating this “2020 does SUCK!”
Incredible Guitarist , in an incredible band that I must of seen a half dozen times
    always a brilliant show!
    RIP Eddie🎸🎸🎸🎸taken way to young!

    • unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2020 at 1:48 pm

That really sucks. 2020 just keeps on kicking us in the oblongs. My wife grew up in the LA area and she saw them 4-5 times before they made it big. Eddie gave her brother one of his guitars. I saw them at a day on the Green in ’78 when they just hit it big. Great great show.

  11. willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 1:38 pm

Ozuna and d’Arnaud with key hits again as Braves have taken lead after trailing 4-1. 2 run HR from Swanson and it’s 9-4.

    • xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 2:17 pm

If I were a key position player with a name that began with d’ I think I’d quietly change it to D’.

      • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 2:34 pm

        Fun fact:
Uniform manufacturers use an upside down “P” for the lower case “d”…

      • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 2:42 pm

        Maybe not that much fun…

  12. xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 2:49 pm

Dusty started the runners on 1B and 3B and turned a DP grounder into a RBI.

    • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 3:01 pm

      Who got the game ball?

      • xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 3:16 pm

ah, man, let it go. he doesn’t even have a toothpick these days — mask and all

  13. Macdog said, on October 6, 2020 at 4:34 pm

The Astros sure like playoff games at the Latrine.

    • willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 4:39 pm

Ha good one Mac! Dust has them up 2 zip. and unlike 2012 doesn’t have to go back home to Cincy.

  14. willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 4:41 pm

Clevinger supposed to start tonite for Pads…see how that goes

  15. Flavor said, on October 6, 2020 at 5:06 pm

Eddie Van Halen dying today was the single worst day of 2020 by far for me. I’m devastated.

    • xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 7:07 pm

Losing Christo and Fred Willard did it for me months ago, long ago. My memories of EVH are bound up with vicious fights that left huge bloody scalp ripped hanks of long hair and lost teeth littering a Watsonville lumberyard driveway. Long story. But I never warmed up to VH after that.

  16. Flavor said, on October 6, 2020 at 5:13 pm

    with the cig clipped on…..

  17. Macdog said, on October 6, 2020 at 5:31 pm

I’d never heard of Arozarena before last night, but I’ve sure heard of him now.

  18. alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2020 at 5:34 pm

Eddie said his lung cancer which eventually spread recently to his brain and even though he was a heavy smoker might of been caused by his metal guitar pick which he constantly had in his mouth while performing..

Nice to know ex wife Valerie Bertinelli and there son Wolfgang were at his bedside along with his current wife to the very end..

    • unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2020 at 6:07 pm

I’m going with the smokes. This really stinks. Another reason to shitcan this entire year.

Can we just hibernate till spring? FUck this shit.

San Diego needs a crooked number here….

  21. willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 7:33 pm

shoot only 2 pitches into 2nd Clevinger has to come out. Fastball topping out at 91. not good

    • willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 7:36 pm

replaced by Pierce Johnson, guy that had 5.50 ERA for Giants back in 2018. yikes

      • djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:03 pm

        I vaguely remember him.
Not sure if he lasted long enough to get a derogatory nickname…

  22. snarkk said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:10 pm

    Good luck to Sarge, BTW.

    A’s cratering again.
Gotta hand it to the Gyros 2010-2014.
When they were in the hunt, there was no sphincter puckering.
All the close games they played in regular season tightened up the D, and they let the other team make the mistakes…

  23. willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:17 pm

Can someone pls hit the ball? Pads finally do after 8 Ks and score first.

  24. xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:48 pm

In this la pads game I’m really enjoying the announcers’ debate about players’ hairstyles.

  25. sandog said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:50 pm

It’s depressing me to see how much talent these two teams have compared to the Giants. My goodness. Studs on top of studs on top of studs.
Love what we did this year, but man we gotta hit on some draft picks…

    • willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:57 pm

Pads young pitching is amazing. Weather’s looked really good supposed to SP too.

      • sandog said, on October 6, 2020 at 8:59 pm

I had never heard of him. He’s filthy. That Morejon guy from Cuba is a LH badass too.

  26. Macdog said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:02 pm

Rays bullpen shuts down the Yanks, even with a very shaky closer in the 9th, and the series is tied.

  27. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:08 pm

Pads are walking a ton of guys tonight.

  28. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:09 pm

Man, what a show this was . . . AC/DC and VH kicked ass. By the time Aerosmith was done, 90% of the crowd had left. Aerosmith was awful. The few folks that were left were laughing at them. Saw the Stones there 3 days later.

    vhh

  29. Macdog said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:12 pm

    Fucking Padres.

  30. alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:17 pm

Bonehead throw by 2nd basemen he had Bellinger easily. Then again even Hosmer should of bailed him out and dropped it..Like Mac said Fucking Padres..

  31. djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:18 pm

    At least the no-hitter’s intact…

  32. djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:22 pm

Can’t help but like Dustin May…

  33. alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:23 pm

Lux sure has that clown 🤡 hair look.If he wasn’t such a good pitcher he could always get a job in the circus 🎪

  34. alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:26 pm

Damm my bad I thought that was Lux and it’s May duh 🙄

  35. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:31 pm

It’s getting worse. The Tingler gets tingled.

  36. willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:32 pm

Pads can’t keep walking guys ahead of Dodgers better hitters, recipe for disaster. Betts just made them pay and now ump tosses Tingler, not good.

  37. alleykat69 said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:44 pm

Revolving door of Padres pitchers and they still can’t get the 3rd out..

  38. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:47 pm

Wow. These guys look like a clown show.

  39. djloo27 said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:48 pm

    SanDog’s 8:50 is a real wake-up call.
    Goodnight…

    • willedav said, on October 6, 2020 at 10:39 pm

Definitely. You said before how playing Dodgers was a reality check. Both of you are right.

  40. unca_chuck said, on October 6, 2020 at 9:57 pm

Is it really gonna be the fucking Lakers AND the fucking Dodgers this year?

Even more reason to believe 2020 is the year from hell.

  41. xoot said, on October 6, 2020 at 10:00 pm

Acuna and Ozuna set the bar this morning and it’s been downhill since. Of course, I have tomorrow to wake up to. Strange PS.

As in recent years, though, I hate to hear the networks, tonight it was fsn, play jack white’s weak imitation of the Blasters great cover of Little Willie John’s I’m Shakin. Here’s what we should be hearing.

I read where Van Halen, when he was “Van Halen” at the height, took a few guitar lessons from …
Glen Campbell. For what, I dunno.
But, I believe it. I think Campbell could play Van Halen stuff pretty well if he had to, but Van Halen play country or other rock or blues just as well as his style? Not sure about that.
On guitar, Glen Campbell was an absolute badaaasss…

  43. mrsprtdude said, on October 6, 2020 at 10:56 pm

Played Hot for teacher for some co-workers today. Love the opening!Too young for them to know his greatness. Pads and A’s chunking. Grr
