A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

ALCS Starts Today

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 11, 2020

Honestly can’t pick a team to root for today. On one hand I really like how the Astros overcame adversity to make it back to the ALCS. And I will always love Dusty. But they’re playing the Rays who are impossible not to like.

Niners today. I got a bad feeling about this one.

I despise the Astros for their fraudulent championship in ‘17, but….I see them giving the Dodgers a bigger challenge in the ‘20 World Series. I think the Dodgers will steamroll Atlanta. And I think if the Rays get to the WS, they will be in the dreaded “we’re just happy to be here” mode. The Astros are on a mission to redeem their legacy.

Hey nothing wrong with a comeback story

    • willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 8:29 am

hmmnn. I saw an analysis that said Rays were best team in AL during regular season and had better pitching than Yanks. I think that proved to be correct, and more like what imo (good pitching beats yada yada) you have to have to handle LA.
Out of the 3 teams still left, I’d say Rays have by far best chance to beat them. And it’s kinda at their own game because they are so platoon friendly and without MVP level superstars of Betts/Bellinger mode.

It will be interesting to note park factor. That Globe Life yard is not hitter friendly.

  2. Winder said, on October 11, 2020 at 8:29 am

    It’s all about pitching now.

  3. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 9:01 am

The Dolphins? Fitzpatrick? Naaah. If we can’t outscore Miami, the season is over already.

  4. alleykat69 said, on October 11, 2020 at 9:30 am

The Rays have an embarrassment of good pitchers and Ian Anderson is lights out as the closer!
There still my pick to go all the way there that good.

Yeah I’m with Chuck, no way the Niners lose to the Fish and Fitzpatrick.JimmyG’is back maybe Mosert along with a healthy Samuels &Aikuk And Kittle more then enough firepower to take care of Miami..

Raiders Chiefs classic old school AFL match up, always great theater. 60s I was Raider fan and Chiefs had so much talent on both sides of ball plus evil genius Stram. Madden’s boys were completely different, group of wild guys.
30 yrs later I used to marvel how Marty Schottenheimer’s Chiefs used to own them.

Now KC and Mahomes most fun team to watch in Goodell’s no fun league.

    • xoot said, on October 11, 2020 at 10:06 am

Vid of KC fans hurling baseballs at Bo J’s helmet should be routine for this matchup. The youngsters need to understand the rivalry; and they’ll want to know about Bo, once they have clue.

      • xoot said, on October 11, 2020 at 10:06 am

        a clue

  6. alleykat69 said, on October 11, 2020 at 10:14 am

Man I was a bigtime Raiders fan in the late 60’s!
I could never get enough of the “Mad Bomber” Daryl Lamonica throwing beautiful arching footballs to Warren Wells along with the always dependable Fred Blietnkoff (sp) on his precision route running!
I once met John Madden at Ski Incline at the lodge in 68, he was cool talking to many skiers ⛷ even though he didn’t ski.I was just a young whipper snapper but dumb enough to not any better and just went up to him at his table and said your doing a good job coach, keep throwing those long balls, he gave me a smirk and said it’s the Raiders way!! Dug that!

  7. willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 10:25 am

Wasn’t it awesome Ike Lassiter that actually got the hit Ben Davidson got credit/blame for?

  8. willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 10:59 am

Nelson Agholor…as junior in pac 12 had 12 receiving TDs 104 catches and 2 return TDs at USC. Everyone else glad to see him leave and turn pro. Has a ring too from season with Eagles.

  9. alleykat69 said, on October 11, 2020 at 11:33 am

Ruggs sure can fly with that 4.2 speed! He’s the Raiders version of Tyreek Hill just needs more experience and avoid injuries the key for this kid..
2 catches for 118 yards and a TD!

    • willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 11:51 am

look at all the offensive weapons Gruden and co have put around Carr. Ruggs Agholor Waller Jacobs the other running back too. Hella fun game

  10. Winder said, on October 11, 2020 at 11:54 am

Never liked the Raiders. Acknowledged they were a hard-nosed football team that were pretty good but that’s as far as it went. Being a Niner fan and living amongst a shitload of Raider fans was enough for me to not jump on that wagon. I did end up marrying into a Raider household but the Niners had given me some ammo by then.

    • willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 12:02 pm

Ha you married into it–don’t get to choose family/in laws. Back and forth btw 2 camps has always been fun. I remember when Big Al was drafting QB Purple Drank #1. There used to be “Raider Bar” back in the day up off White Rd in san jose that got pirated game day feed. Raider fan delivery driver I worked with was always inviting us “phony whiner fans” up there

      • Winder said, on October 11, 2020 at 12:38 pm

yeah, It took quite awhile for most Raider fans to admit the Niners were a good football team.

  11. alleykat69 said, on October 11, 2020 at 12:01 pm

What a great story Alex Smith is in the game now for Washington and has completed 7-8 passes for a mere 32 yards, but still what he has endured almost losing his leg it’s just amazing his determination to get back with almost everyone said he should just hang em up..Props to you Alex👏

    • Winder said, on October 11, 2020 at 12:52 pm

that is amazing. Good luck to him

  12. willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 12:13 pm

Raider fans talk such megashit. I was at BBQ couple weeks ago and one I’ve known since his birth 35 years ago was telling me, “they’re going all the way.” Even his Mom said, “How long has he been saying this?”

    • Winder said, on October 11, 2020 at 12:45 pm

Lol. some Raider fans are pretty delusional. But it does look like they are finally getting their shit together. The Raider fans of the 60′ and 70’s were all pretty much die hard fans though. However, they were irritating to be around. Blanda and Stabler were Gods.

  13. alleykat69 said, on October 11, 2020 at 12:42 pm

As long as the younger Dodger fans, keep on waiting!

  14. alleykat69 said, on October 11, 2020 at 12:59 pm

Hunter Renfrow is the poor mans version of Fred Bilenikoff ..

  15. Winder said, on October 11, 2020 at 1:16 pm

Looks like the Niners are gonna have a long day.

  16. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 1:17 pm

Raiders beating the Chiefs 40-32 but time is left.

  17. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 1:23 pm

Shanahan is real;y pissing me off with his diogshit play calling, Everyone ignores all the motion now as it usually leads to a run up the middle.

  18. Flavor said, on October 11, 2020 at 1:30 pm

As I said in the main thread, I got a bad feeling about this one…….

  19. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 1:30 pm

Good for the Raiders. The Niners? Down 14. Gonna be a long year if we can’t beat the Dolphins.

Our CBs are flat dog shit. And we did nothing in the offseason to fix that problem. Something I did not understand.

  20. Winder said, on October 11, 2020 at 1:32 pm

we are getting it handed to us today.

  21. Flavor said, on October 11, 2020 at 2:05 pm

    Brian Allen needs to go.

  22. alleykat69 said, on October 11, 2020 at 2:07 pm

Jesus this CB Allen is getting schooled out there!
Where’s Jimmy Johnson when we need him?
Get Allen out now! Fitzpatrick will keep milking him till the utters are dry!

  23. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 2:09 pm

Selah is a moron fro leaving Allen one on one. He’s only been beaten every target. 10 completions and 2 PIs to his man.

  24. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 2:34 pm

Insanity that they were able to bring in Witherspoon after Allen gives up 21 points and 200 yards.

Why the fuck didn’t they pull Allen earlier?

  25. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 2:49 pm

    Jimmy G is benched.

  26. Flavor said, on October 11, 2020 at 2:55 pm

I get that we are missing some guys but this team was in the damn SB last year. Even tho I thought they’d have trouble getting up for this game I didn’t see miami blowing them off the field like this. Total wipe out.

  27. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 3:04 pm

The Beater the the refs score!

  28. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 3:12 pm

this defense is pathetic. 3rd and 16 snd you can’t stop shit.

  29. willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 3:30 pm

Football Giants putting up good fight. Dang another TD pass called back.

    • Macdog said, on October 11, 2020 at 3:39 pm

Giants fucking suck. Prescott hurt and it didn’t look good.

      • alleykat69 said, on October 11, 2020 at 4:16 pm

That’s ok the Cowboys suck just as bad.No defense at all under Teflon Mike Nolan the joke of all Texas fans. Now no Prescott his ankle is jacked up, broken?,ligaments? you name it . And now the Red Rifle Andy Dalton The rest of the year lol 😂 as now the Giants Just take the lead again on Nolan’s non existent defense!!

  30. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 3:40 pm

Into the cellar. And well deserved. We look to go 0-8 if we play like this.

This was the easy part of the schedule and we go 2-3. THey are gonna run every play and we can’t stop them.

  31. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 3:55 pm

Shanahan is awful at short yardage plays. That 4th down play had no chance.

  32. ryanfitzmanning said, on October 11, 2020 at 4:00 pm

I wet the bed. Doesn’t everyone?

  33. willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 4:16 pm

Giants just scored and then hit 2 pt conversion to a guy wearing #78. 34-31. Man any W and your team is in first place in that division. Given some time, Jones can throw the football; still learning when where when not to.

  34. Flavor said, on October 11, 2020 at 4:35 pm

feel awful for Dak. Dude has clearly got some shit going on, getting shut down with a horrific injury like this is the last thing he needs. Being on the football field was where he needed to be.

  35. Flavor said, on October 11, 2020 at 4:40 pm

Dusty with those gloves but he’s touch his face constantly. Come on dawg.

  36. willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 4:51 pm

Funniest looking pro baseball hat you’ve ever seen?

  37. djloo27 said, on October 11, 2020 at 5:40 pm

    Base-Cam is pretty useless.
Looks like they’re playing on Rice Krispies…

  38. zumiee said, on October 11, 2020 at 7:11 pm

Lakers won the NBA championship, I guess. I couldn’t care less, one way or the other.
The playoff games all looked like pick-up games to me. Remember when point guards would hold up a hand and signal a play. Yeah, those days are gone.

  39. Winder said, on October 11, 2020 at 7:23 pm

This Astro’s/Rays game is a good one. This series is gonna be a dog fight.

    • Macdog said, on October 11, 2020 at 7:56 pm

Big DP for the Rays in the 8th.

  40. willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 7:56 pm

Gurriel sucks. Wonder what Stros would give Giants for Belt?

  41. unca_chuck said, on October 11, 2020 at 8:25 pm

Jesus, how stupid are you to not go up by 8 playing the Seahawks with 2 minutes left?

  42. willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 10:07 pm

Astros lineup is predominantly RH–Springer Altuve Correia. Brantley is FA and other than that for LHs they only have Tucker, coming into his own, and Reddick, who sucks. Belt could provide them with superior D and gets to hit in bandbox yard where he could reach fences anywhere. Definite upgrade over Gurriel.

    • willedav said, on October 11, 2020 at 10:23 pm

Gurriel will be 37 next June and seems opening is there at 1b. Only one of their prospects that has played 1b at all is Abraham Toro also some 3b. He has 165 ABs over last 2 seasons, 5 HRs in 165 ABs and .600 OPS. Majority of their top prospects listed on fangraphs are pitchers, including few currently on ML roster like Urquiddy Paredes and Javier.
Also they have grandson of Cubs Don Kessinger listed as 40V.

  43. Zach Walling said, on October 13, 2020 at 10:08 am

lol I am right there with you in regards to the Rays. I’m a Giants fan through and through and definitely don’t have any “second favorites,” but if you hate the Rays you’re an asshole.
