A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Like Clockwork….

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on October 16, 2020

I don’t want to hear about Kershaw’s back. He performed how he always does in a big post season game. And it was glorious. See what I mean about the Dodgers choking in the post season? It’s nearly as fun as watching the Giants win in the post season.

Opie really should be over the shock of watching balls fly out of the park.

  2. djloo27 said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:04 am

Their team is built to out-hit a so-so pitching performance.
    Didn’t happen yesterday…

  3. willedav said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:14 am

At same time Dodgers depth, especially for pitching, was supposed to thrive and be an advantage in the no days off format. I can understand Opie wilting after 80 some pitches in 6th, but he left trailing only 3-1. Guys Roberts brought in wound up allowing 6 earned and a bomb and Graterol got raked, allowing 3 runs of his own plus Ozuna that he inherited.

Watching some of the best players in NL during postseason, hard to find anyone more exciting than Acuna.

    • xoot said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:32 am

Acuña was astonishing from the moment he arrived in early 2018. Not only did the Braves burn his arb clock, they soon contractually EXTENDED him through 2026 (with two option years after that). Iirc, Atl did something similar with Freeman. Numbers like that would freeze Z’s laptop.

    Great headline too Flav!
watched some of the HS game on ESPN 2 that featured Arch Manning, nephew of Eli and Peyton, play for Newman (?) HS those 2 attended. He’s only a soph, and was brilliant, throwing and running/escaping pass rush.

  5. willedav said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:46 am

Meanwhile, in AL series no team has scored more than 5 runs in any of 5 games so far. And Rays managed to lose game yesterday where they out homered Houston 3-2.

  6. zumiee said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:54 am

The Dodgers’ bullpen was lights-out all regular “season,” and now 15 ERs allowed in 15 1/3 innings in the playoffs so far. Hard to figure.

  7. Dennis Zucchino said, on October 16, 2020 at 9:01 am

Roberts, must be going to the videotape…….Giants postseason…2010…2012…..2014….. Take your pick Dave….but IMO it’s too late. You have it all but there’s obviously something missing. But stick around next year they may show you again how it’s done….

  8. djloo27 said, on October 16, 2020 at 9:22 am

I wish the Giant organization would bring Timmy back in some capacity.
I’ve always said he has a great voice…

    • Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 10:23 am

Timmy is off getting baked every day and banging the hotties. He’s probably got no interest

Trumpeter Roy Hargrove would have been 51 today, but passed couple years ago due to complications of kidney failure and cardiac arrest. I have a great cd he did with band of Cuban musicians he formed “Crisol”, also other mellower things he recorded with “Tenors of Our Times” and in prolific drummer Roy Haynes tribute to music of Charlie Parker.

It’s amazing that a guy with Kershaw’s credentials has been so consistently bad in the postseason. Barring a minor miracle, the Dodgers are going to come up short AGAIN. Hard to believe with a stacked roster like theirs. I wonder if this will be the last straw for Roberts, assuming they do lose. The Braves and Rays would be an interesting World Series.

    • zumiee said, on October 16, 2020 at 2:50 pm

I do give Kershaw a break on Game 5 in the ’17 World Series vs. the Trash Can Astros. The game was in Houston, and Kershaw gave up 2 3-run HRs.

      • djloo27 said, on October 16, 2020 at 2:57 pm

        Zumiee:

There’s a 2 hour ABC 20/20 special about John Lennon tonight at 9:00…

  11. alleykat69 said, on October 16, 2020 at 2:50 pm

Opie is one of the great pitchers ever but sadly his legacy will always be tarnished as not a playoff dominant pitcher. And without the elusive W/S championship it will always haunt him.Sad in away though of all the Dodgers I have the most respect for and he grew up idolizing Will Clark and wears his number, that counts a lot in my book!

    • unca_chuck said, on October 16, 2020 at 4:05 pm

Hey, he’s a Dodger. Fuck him. Shit, Mookie Betts is as far as I can tell a great guy and an awesome teammate. He’s a Dog now? Fuck him and the horse he rode in on. Opie’s legacy will be fine. Great pitcher who didn’t win it all. He can join Juan Marichal, Ted Williams, and plenty of others who never tasted final glory.

      • Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:28 pm

yes. Fuck all of them. Don’t care if they’re good dudes. As far as I’m concerned they’re fucking criminals.

  12. unca_chuck said, on October 16, 2020 at 4:01 pm

Is this the 40th anniversary of Lennon getting shot? My brother called me that night, and I saw the crawl as it came across Monday Night Football. He said he was reading the John and Yoko Playboy article from September
as he saw the crawl go by. Freaked him out a little. He loved the Beatles, and went to the Cow Palace show in ’65 with dear old mom. I think he was 10. As fucked up as things are now, I guess they’ve always been fucked up.

  13. willedav said, on October 16, 2020 at 4:02 pm

mark zuckerman had tweet posted on Giants nbc site. This season pitches 1-75 opponents hit .169 off Kershaw.
    Past that, .308.

  14. xoot said, on October 16, 2020 at 4:55 pm

Funny aerial shot there of Castillo coming in from the pen while being chased step for step across the OF grass by the running cameraman on the ground. Meta commentary comes to the mlb PS; follows appropriately a feature on the phony crowd sounds. I can’t rightly remember what a real PS crowd sounds like.

    • unca_chuck said, on October 16, 2020 at 4:56 pm

What’s strange is seeing replays of crowds in stadiums and it feels so distant and unreal.

      • xoot said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:01 pm

The TB dome would be silent right now if this game were there.

  15. unca_chuck said, on October 16, 2020 at 4:55 pm

Dusty playing small ball for the lead. These announcers act like no one has bunted for 35 years.

  16. willedav said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:10 pm

Castillo had nothing 4-1 Stros. Rays gonna have to rally to knock them out.
I realize ump was tough, but Snell is an ace? Then get some guys out without throwing so many pitches.

  17. alleykat69 said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:13 pm

Thought Cash pulled Snell to quick. He still was pitching a shutout even with the 1st 2 reaching a walk and ball thru the hole at SS I would of gave him one more batter maybe he’s gets a DP ball and gets out the inning.

  18. unca_chuck said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:17 pm

    Six years ago today.

  19. unca_chuck said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:20 pm

    Asterisks not going away.

  20. Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:23 pm

Kevin Cash? WTF? He completely panicked and lost this game for them. Bringing the closer in at that stage? And then bringing infield in AND going with the shift? Absolutely stupid and of course Springer just sprayed an easy ball through the hole at second fucking base. LOL. That was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen a manager do…..

  21. xoot said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:34 pm

Castillo had no focus and no command. He didn’t look like same pitcher who finished off the yanks so masterfully. I guess we’ll hear that he feasts on Dave situations.

    • xoot said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:34 pm

Framber on pitch 101 gets the GIDP to shut down Rays in 6th after a little back and forth from Diaz etc.

  24. Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:43 pm

totally classless barking by Diaz there. Pussy. You got a walk, good for you it’s part of the game. You want fastballs thrown at you every time, head down to single A.

    • willedav said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:53 pm

yeah wtf? I thought Maldonado (good looking C for this team) handled it well and yet the guy kept talking.

  25. alleykat69 said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:45 pm

Big time loser for Tampa Bay, Brandon Lowe for a guy who was supposedly a stud leade during the regular season he downright SUCKS all postseason..

  26. willedav said, on October 16, 2020 at 5:51 pm

Another wild pitch leads to run as Brantley singles in Altuve. Zunino having rough time out there with all the breaking balls in dirt.

  27. zumiee said, on October 16, 2020 at 6:12 pm

    “Zumiee:
There’s a 2 hour ABC 20/20 special about John Lennon tonight at 9:00…”

Thanks, Loo! I hadn’t heard about it.
This month is 80 years since his birth.
And in December, 40 years since his death.

  28. Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 6:27 pm

After watching Zunino kick 3 balls, and Smith just did it too, I think we take for granted how hard it is to catch these pitches. Or maybe we don’t give the catchers enough credit for catching them so regularly. That shit is coming in like a lightening bolt. How do they catch it so consistently with that shitty catchers glove?

    • alleykat69 said, on October 16, 2020 at 6:38 pm

Good point.. I think the catchers glove should be the width of the catchers body as hard as these pitchers can throw nowadays..

  29. alleykat69 said, on October 16, 2020 at 6:33 pm

I know his age might be a deterrent at 31 but what do u guys think of George Springer as a RH slugger playing CF for let’s say 2/48?? He’s probably going to look for a 3 year deal minimum though maybe an option on the 3 rd year?

    • Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 6:43 pm

No. Fuck anyone old. This game is now played by young people. But I see where you’re coming from he’s a stud. And he’s getting a lot more than 2/48

      • alleykat69 said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:27 pm

Tell that to the Giants though, all they play is old fucks. They won’t even give Jaylin Davis a chance and he’s 25!! When will this team ever decide to go young?
Yeah I know when they finally dump Belt,Craw,Posey,Shark( gone atleast one) Cueto Longo that’s 5 old spots taken with a shitload more at 30 plus Solano,Yaz Dick, Flores (29?)along with some old pitchers as well, I guess I’m just inpatient waiting another 2-3 years to clear off the dust of these relics leaving…

  30. Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 6:55 pm

Markakis can still slap hits around. It doesn’t work in the regular season but it does in the post season.

Announcers refuse to blame anyone for an incredibly boneheaded play…

      • zumiee said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:41 pm

It’s the kind of play that happens in Friday night softball, not the major leagues.

      • alleykat69 said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:48 pm

Inexcusable by the runner and the 3rd base coach!
A basic play that goes back to little league/Babe Ruth..
Look the ball all the way into the glove then take off..
3-0 sure looks a lot better then now 2-1..

  35. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:42 pm

Silly of me to post something non-baseball during all these play by play posts, but I woke up this morning wondering something that maybe you lovers of The City would know: Is it true that both the Fillmore and the Boom Boom Room, two great classic venues I loved going to during my days there, within spitting distance of each other on Fillmore Street, are gone?……

    • zumiee said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:45 pm

Fillmore still exists, I think, just waiting for shows to happen again someday.

    • djloo27 said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:47 pm

My guess is they’ve been replaced by a nail salon and a tattoo parlor…

    • xoot said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:56 pm

Boom Boom Room is closed for Covid. I have a second cousin who in HS played drums for a band of older adults at the BBR. His mother stayed through every gig just in case they got busted. John Lee Hooker was involved in founding the club, right?

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:03 pm

Yep, that was his club…. I don’t know about sole ownership details… He’d show up to play there sometimes…

    • Bozo said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:20 pm

I hadn’t heard that the Fillmore was closing its doors, I hope not. I know Slims is closing. Some clubs have been offered grants from the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass people (The Bottom of the Hill being one), I don’t know all the details on that but it sounds like a pretty cool thing from HSB.
Not a club but Harrington’s bar and Grill on Front street is closing it’s doors after a 85 year run. I hit that place pretty much every day after work for 25 some years. My last trip to SF was in February, so many changes, a lot of yoga and pilates studios now.

  36. unca_chuck said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:45 pm

Far as I know, and I went about a year ago, the Fillmore is still around.

    Under COVID I can’t say what the future holds;

  37. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 16, 2020 at 7:55 pm

Thanks… Good guess, Loo. One town I lived in in China for a couple of years, Jimei town, had a little street we called An Mo Street… an mo being massage. There was a little string of dark dingy shops with *interesting* massage, kept me content in my days there. Went back to teach at the uni for a bit about 5 years later, and all of those shops were either nails shops or mobile phone shops. Broke my heart.

  38. Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:01 pm

Here’s what I know: either I’m a complete idiot or 90% of the people out there are idiots. There’s really no middle ground on this. I feel terrible for the stupid in our country.

  39. Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:06 pm

My dad taught me 3 things: 1) own up to your farts 2) pay your debts and 3) listen to people who are smarter than you to make major life decisions. I mean, he had his faults but he pretty much nailed the life-coach shit.

  40. Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:08 pm

and from those lessons I have stumbled upon one thing: I am smarter than 90% of the people out there. And it’s probably more than that. And that’s why I don’t understand the world. It’s actually kind of a fucked up epiphany when you think about it.

  41. djloo27 said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:14 pm

    • Flavor said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:19 pm

there is another option: I am completely stupid, IQ less than 100, and I just don’t understand anything. I am open to that possibility. When I was growing up my mom used to tell me I was smarter than my sister. She did, I’m not fucking with you it was 70’s/80’s parenting. I said how do you know? She said *testing*. She was right,40 years later I can confirm I’m smarter than my sister. The question is, have I underestimated my intelligence stacked up against the rest of the world. Maybe I have, who knows. If I haven’t, we are in the throes of the dumbest composition of humanity that I’ve seen in my lifetime. Including the cavemen who I never saw but who had to have been smarter.

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on October 16, 2020 at 8:25 pm

No doubt cavemen were smarter than a lot of the idiots you see out there now. They at least believed in science: they knew that fire in fact did not come from the gods but from a tested and true combination of friction, heat, and burnable materials….

Social media gave voice, and thus, power, to the fucking brain-dead morons out there who do nothing but look for scapegoats for their miserable lives. Now they are a force to be reckoned with, in that the right knows how to manipulate them to do their bidding. At the soonest opportunity, the electoral college needs to be tossed, or at least altered dramatically to be represent the actual popular vote, and citizens united needs to go. Kentucky being a prime example of how a backwoods cracker like Mitch McConnell can go from hayseed senator to a guy worth $30 million while his state is 45th and below for EVERY measurable metric,

    Hey, you asked.

A lot of Baby Boomers have kept a high standard, but a lot of them haven’t. A lot of them watch cruddy shows like American Idol.

I caught a documentary on pbs, LennonNYC (part of the American Masters series) that portrayed John Lennon’s life in the USA, right up to the end, in an interesting, strangely intimate light. Pretty good, especially if you lived through those times.
