Bad Start
Thoughts from last night:
- Glasnow wasn’t better. Too many pitches just weren’t competitive. I think we’re just conditioned to think a guy that throws 100 nearly every pitch is dominant. He was not last night.
- The Rays swing and miss and at a lot of balls. I know that’s not news but it was surprising at how many it really was.
- The Red Sox got 2 minor leaguers and Verdugo for Betts. Why again didn’t they just pay that man his money?
- It was so great to see those stolen B’s. Even if it was the Dodgers stealin’ them. The stolen base is one of the best most exciting plays in baseball and it was fun to watch it return, even if it’s just for one game.
Manfred Mann sez he wants to keep the runner on 2nd in extras, and the expanded playoffs of 14 teams.
Oh joy. DH is a given I suppose.
Damn. Spencer Davis passed away at the age of 81. A huge part of the blue-eyed blues revolution that swept England in the early 60s. Also gave young Stevie Winwood his shot to sing for him.
RIP. Gave Stevie Winwood his first big break.
Fuck you 2020.
All the walks, yikes. Glasnow threw 5 more strikes than Opie did but Kershaw threw 36 fewer pitches. So many pitchers today unwilling unable to throw strikes. LA was not banging the ball off the wall, it was the singles after the walks that did Rays in.
Opie, btw, ain’t done. He threw 5 shutout innings vs. Braves before he unraveled as pen did after him in his last start. And he only walked one guy
Mookie was done with Boston and had turned down earlier offer to test FA market. They didn’t get a bad deal, saved money on Price too. Verdugo at least has years of control left, which seems to be big deal.
Yes steals were cool…the bro hug btw Betts and Adames and their yuk fest was not.
speaking of steals, according to D Halberstam in “October 1964” Brock changed how he approached taking a lead. Tired of getting whacked on by McCovey, he decided to take shorter lead, study pitchers move to 1b to get better jump, and go hard into 2b. Up to then conventional method popularized by Wills had been to get as big a lead as possible, “if you aren’t diving back then lead isn’t big enough.”
Wills took the sickest leads.
You had to see it to believe it…
Yeah that’s why the Giants tried to water down 1st base cause of Wills..
They watered down the entire infield.
Another legend passes away, 2020 continues to SUCK as musicians and celebrities keep dying.
Spencer Davis was an early pioneer in the English invasion of rock music along with the The Beatles,The Who,The Stones &Fleetwood Mac among others.
His revolutionary song writing was superb and he will be sorely missed..
RIP Spencer Davis
I think the celebrity deaths in 2020 have only been disproportionate for the recent baseball HOFers.
Otherwise it’s pretty much business as usual in the death world…
yeah. The 60s were a long time ago. Yet keith Richards marches on. He and Willie Nelson are gonna have an end of the world party in 50 years.
Mays turns 90 in May.
I hope…
I guess this year the Roooster’s staying in his coop until it’s officially in the bag…
Another 32 years?
😂 cock a fucking doodle doo.
This was The Spencer Davis Group’s first hit single, a fired up version of an early reggae song written by a guy who worked for Island Records in England. Pretty tight and funky and enjoyably loud for 66.
Love the fuzz tone. Such a 60s thing.
Braves lit up Gonsolin and knocked him out the box in 5th a week ago. 4th inning he walks Acuna and Freeman homers. 5th inning couple more hits and walk he’s gone. Baez allowed 2 baserunners to score in relief. bottom line 4 and a third 88 pitches 3 hits 3 walks 5 earned and the L.
This ain’t Opie…Aroz btw 0-3 last night. Hope he still has something left in arsenal.
Game 7 gonsolin started 2nd and first batter he faced, Swanson, homered. He finished that and 3rd, then gave up 2 walks and run scoring single to open 4th and was yanked after 41 pitches. Bottom line 2 innings plus 2 hits 3 walks 2 earned.
btw he’s NorCal kid from Vacaville and went from Vac HS to St. Mary’s.
blues buddy from So Caro sent me a note–Elvin Bishop is 78 today!
See? Not everyone’s dead!
Hey!
He’s a buddy of Dusty’s. Fishing; blues. Maybe they can celebrate long distance in a way that soothes their souls.
Dead meat at the plate. Why go with the infield in at a ball right to Seager?
Stupid, and if it’s a contact play even worse u have to know your not going to make it.Never liked that play advantage defense most of the time..
Read in the athletic this morning that the Giants might move a low A ball team to Salem/Keizer this coming year. That would be fun for me since I’m only about 25 miles away. Go Rays
That would be great for you Winder, hope it goes thru!
Hey if u get a chance checkout the Movie “The Battered Bastards of Baseball”( I watched it on Netflix) about a minor league independent A ball team that played up in Oregon in the 80’s.Actor Bing Russell was the GM and his more famous son Kurt was on the team.Bunch of renegades that formed quite a bond.Great movie!
Didn’t the Giants have a rookie level team there a few years ago? The Volcanoes?
It was actually the 70’s my bad .The team was called the Portland Mavericks and Bing was the owner that every other organization couldn’t stand. He even got pitcher Jim Bouton Yankees (ball 4) to pitch for them one season..
thanks i will take a look,
4 different pitchers Rays have scored off of tonite.
Fairbanks throws a lot of fastballs right down the middle with no movement…
Fairbanks scaring me again.
4 OFers? Am I seeing things?
Right there Bellinger!
Take some pine meat!
2 pinch runners? And one for Aroz? Made no sense to me..
Yeah, though that was odd taking their best player out.
Ballgame!!! 1-1
Rays get it done!
1-1 bring it on again!
Rays!
Just saw this Niner trade. Looks like a good/smart move.
Jordan Willis’ explosive athleticism precisely what 49ers need

A Ray of hope.
Lowedown on that game pleases almost every single Giants fans and places the Rays back in the sunshine.
