What To Do Now
I’m still reeling from the great Pa Salon’s out of the blue post from yesterday. I will see him next week in Reno as we play the Breeders Cup together and am hoping to greet him with a memorized poetic rendition of his genius.
What to look forward to now? Well, the Breeders Cup, obviously. After that? I’m quietly confident that the NFL will be able to steer through the travails of the widening winter Caronavirus problem. So there will hopefully be some entertainment there.
I have absolutely no idea when the NBA is planning on re-starting. Their schedule might as well be the NHL schedule. No clue when or what season it’s beginning.
In other news, The Fonz turns 75 today, Grace Slick 81….
Um, regardless of your friend’s next commercial adventure, I’d suggest hiring an agent. Nielsen paid him $18 for 90 days…$6 a month for x amount of devices in his house… 20 cents a day?
As opposed to other sports, baseball has lively off season and this one should be quite entertaining–lot of things still to be negotiated btw owners/players, contracts and player movement on individual teams, minor league teams, etc.
Interested to see what befalls J Turner. That kind of flaunting of guidelines cannot be allowed for many reasons, most certainly to protect health of anyone from outside his team he might have been in contact with. Yeow
According to that FA list Loo posted yesterday, the bums have a chance to dump him. Wouldn’t that be cool. But, the bums . . . .
WillieD that was a big part of the joke. lqtm
True, but $18 in mailbox money is worth at least 10x that in paycheck money.
I like to make believe my Social Security check is actually the racetrack gradually returning my lifetime losses…
RIP Billy Joe Shaver, core of the old outlaw country bunch.
this is rad
Any kid Giant fan had to love the chain link, schoolyard-like fence…
jumping over the wall into the scrum for a home run ball was the pinnacle of fun for a kid. Such a let down when they outlawed that…
Scramble in RF was a hoot even for Mays AB. Remember going to game with Braves and catching BP and watching Eddie Mathews hammer balls into crowd in RF.
The foul territory is pointless and insane. No idea what they were thinking.
Maybe LaRussa can return to this show and get asked about his players’ steroid use:
Chapter on the late 80s early 90s a’s in the Mitchell Report essentially indicted LaRussa and Alderson. (Jose “the Hulk” Canseco got popped carrying roids into the country from Canada just before ST 89, e.g.) Look at how they’ve suffered.
This is 1970 I think. They had already pulled the grass in favor of the green concrete.
Terrible look and lots of injuries especially to the Niner players during the Brodie years. The only good thing about OJ Simpson ( of course he was washed up when he got there) was I believe they took that green concrete out just for him to save his knees from getting torn up…
Yup. But it was too late for Paul Hofer. He made it to 1981, but he was completely torn up by then. Great player on a lot of bad years.
Great last name.
Coulda been one?
Paul Hofer was my favorite 49er for a while. I still remember opening the sporting green one day and seeing he was ranked 10th in the league in rushing. I was beaming with pride. It was obviously short lived I think it was the only time in his career he ever cracked the top 10. But for that one week, man, it was rad.
My wife’s maiden name is Meyerhofer.
The day before knbr had twitter thread re: anniversary of Bum coming out of pen to shut down Royals in 2014, couple days after complete game shutout. Saw this yesterday on PTI, such an epic scene seeing him walk out of pen towards mound. One of those things you won’t forget where you were.
Me and my asst b-ball coach buddy were across street from Mt. view Budhhist temple gym after practice having BBQ at Dickies that had game on.
Nice. The Giants all look like snake oil salesmen and Brooklyn looks like they should all be riding those bicycles with the big front wheel and small rear wheel.
MLB owners approve Cohen, final say now up to deBlasio. Could be lot still going on there in the Apple.
Like I said, the biggest issue I had with the way Cash did this was that he didn’t even talk to Snell on the mound. He pulled him like a green rookie who had just walked 4 guys.
No consultation. No ”how you feeling?” Just “Boom, hit the showers, kid. You gave up two singles in 5 and a third.”
Flavor—Del Mar starts back up tomorrow and runs through November?
yeah. Fun little meet that I will be focusing on after the BC is complete.
Snell had plenty to say about his removable stating with his Fuck behind Cash as he was coming out with the hook! Later he said I was still in complete control l just couldn’t understand the move.
Curious if he had a conversation later with Cash about it saying you sure messed up that situation when it wasn’t valid to take me out, especially with Mookie hitting squat against lefties all year..
For all the talk of analytics and that, didn’t Cash know that Mookie was batting so low against lefties?
Same thing with Mr. Kotter. There were times where he simply didn’t make moves based on known facts.
The great Herb Adderley has passed away…
Sorry to hear that Loo,
Herb Adderley was one of the greatest CB’s alltime a Green Bay Packer legend( yeah he also played for the Cowboys but the Pack was his number one team in his heart)Adderley &Jimmy Johnson (49ers)were my favorites growing up in that era..
RIP Herb 🏈
I recall how weird it was to see him in a Cowboy uniform.

That could be an interesting list for a dull day.
Guys who looked most out of place in the uniform of their new team.
I’d start with him:
Wrong uni, wrong number.

Broadway Joe Namath in a LA Rams uni not a good look either.,
McCovey in those garish green of Oakland A’s.
Yeah that was a butt ugly look on Stretch!
Mays in a Mets uni bugged me too it’s just wrong..
Bobby Murcer a Giant? No always a Yankee in pin stripes..
the Paul Hofer stuff got me to check up on the ’79 roster. Followed up with an Eason Ramson video interview from 2011. This is something called the Jennylyn Show and she might be the worst interviewer and maybe the dumbest person of all time. This is hilarious, you probably don’t have the time to watch all of it, but give it a go. 82% chance Eason jack hammered away on this chick 5 minutes after the show ended.
the Flap HOF is just incredible. I go back and read it start to finish sometimes, like once a year.
Maybe you and Kokonuts can get together and make something out of it.
Over a decade of material here…
The Flap HOF is indeed incredible. I browse it now and then. It’s like opening a time capsule of emotions and reflections oft forgotten but so cool to remember again. I actually got little tears in my eyes reading a few of them just now. Priceless.
I can’t believe how quickly I’m over the Dodgers winning the World Series.
With Covid and other stuff going on, the Dodgers already seem an afterthought.
And the Lakers winning the NBA championship is quickly forgotten.
The 49ers were in the Super Bowl last season? Seems like some kind of distant memory.
