A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

This Is A Baseball Blog

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 3, 2020

I considered removing the ban for today on political discussions but it’s just not worth it. Go to Facebook or other places on the internet to talk that mess. Or here’s a thought: nobody cares what your political take is. Keep it to yourself or, if you must, go old school and just discuss it with someone in person. The internet has ruined the way we talk about things with our fellow humans.

The battle lines were drawn a long time ago. If you haven’t already voted, do it.

Go Giants but more importantly, GO AMERICA!

If you want to talk some baseball, here is the thread from 10 years ago today.

Remember when ballot measures concerned new ballparks for the Giants or a’s or a stadium for the 49ers? Those were the days.

      No doubt, Mike.

Cool old thread. I must have already been in off-season mode. Lots of names who are no longer around (Twin – RIP), Ferret, Ted, Ewisco…but it is cool that we have a lot of new Flappers that add value to the discussions.

Amazing that the blog lives on. Thanks (again) for that, Flav.

It is going to be an interesting off-season. So many unknowns: how many games in next year’s schedule? Will fans be allowed to attend? If so, how many? Revenues will be down, again. How will all of that affect free agency?

Damn, I am ready for life to return to some semblance of normalcy. I want to go to games, see other Flappers, have some brews/drinks.

I am going to a “socially distancing” house concert this Saturday to see an awesome NorCal Dead cover band. Was there about three weeks ago for one. Dude has couches spread on a hillside (built platforms for the couches) that look down over the front of his house, where they constructed a stage. Should be fun, but ready to hit some major concerts/festivals. Out Hangtown Music Festival would have been last weekend…four days of awesome music, food, vendors, etc. Sigh…

Ha thx Flav what a fun read. Pretty amazing they actually did get couple more. How prescient of Stix to note SS was gonna be an issue…Sabes wound up with Tejada and others as injuries mounted, sign of all the doom that was going to befall SF Giants of 2011. And then…

Watched some of the NYGs last night, and compared to the Sunday night battle of less than titans btw Eagles and Boys, they didn’t look that bad. TB is a force to be reckoned with and they came within eyelash of tying game up and mostly shut down running game.
Sure Jones makes ill advised and inaccurate passes, but I wonder where they would go with early first round pick. Surround him with more talent, fill in D or go in a different direction at QB?
There are definitely QBs out there–Bama guy Mac Jones, Ohio St. and Fields, Lawrence, and others that are mobile and accurate at least at college level.

Giants are 1-7 for a reason — they stink, and the QB is at the top of the list. I’m tired of the We played hard, we’re making progress crap the coach spouts every week. Win a goddamn game for once.

Have you guys discussed Gausman getting the Qualifying Offer? I like the guy, but paying him damn near 20 mil next year??? That kind of blows my mind for someone with his track record. But we are definitely hurting for starting pitching and it is just one year, so maybe that is a sound move.

    • willedav said, on November 3, 2020 at 9:04 am

Tis definitely lot of $$$ and rather un Z (or Friedman) type move. Giants problems, such as they are though don’t involve $$ and after 2021 ton of $$ comes off books. I do think there will be hidden and unproveable conspiracy on FAs, QO guys and others. Owners will cry collective poverty and players will be forced to take whatever is offered out there.

Well, since the bore core ain’t going anywhere, they will do their usual retool as a rebuild deal so they may very well pay for him. He and Slymy ain’t the worst idea. Cueto should get healthy so that isn’t a terrible rotation with Webb and (insert 5h starter du jour) as a rotation. They will be competitive for a while and slowly fade to the 70-75 win range.

I think it is about appearances at this point.

Likely move is that Gausman will be offered a 3-year contract in the range of $42-45M, That $20-M contract would cover year one and the other two would average $11-$12.5M. In other words, the QA would reward him for re-signing and for services rendered and the remainder of the contract (perhaps with performance-based increments) would be closer to his perceived value at ages 31-32.

Sure the Springers of world at top of food chain will get theirs, but otherwise there should definitely be plenty of bargains out there to be had. Good news for Giants this seems to be Z’s strength, finding value at Dollar Store.

Did he win by a head?

Miesque was a true champion. The first two time winner of a Breeders Cup race. And several high profile Euro races….

        I woulda guessed Precisionist…

The QO is also a hedge that will net Giants a draft pick should Gausman ultimately sign with someone else, at least before next year draft takes place. What I’ve read so far thinking is either he accepts or works out separate deal with Giants who like many other teams will be desperate to upgrade pitching.

I liked them to go after Tommy LaStella to play 2B and occasional 3B to give Longo a day off. He’s left handed has some power,( killed the Giants including a walkoff bomb)can actually field unlike Flores and Solano at 2nd/3rd) doesn’t strikeout much, has a career 350 OBP.Would be a good fit he rakes right hand pitching as well..

3 in 5 is one of great runs in modern history, at least since Giants and Dodgers moved west.
Yanks had 3 in a row and 4/5 from 1996-2000. Last team to repeat.
They also won 3 in 5 btw 1958-62.
BoSox won 3 over 10 year stretch 2004-13.
    Oakland won 3 in a row 1972-74.
Cardinals had chance for 3 in 5 but lost 1968 to Tigers.
Orioles 1966-71 (6 years) won 2 but also lost 2, in 69 to Mets and 71 to Pirates.

In news shocking to no one, the 49ers cut Dante Pettis.

    4 days too late, goddamnit.

AMC network has been showing Godfather and Godfather II back to back all day and looks like into the night. Not bad with blues on the box and good reposada.

Frank Pentangeli absolutely steals GF2, IMO…

    • xoot said, on November 3, 2020 at 8:13 pm

Not DeNiro in Little Italy? And Frank’s brother per second of screen time?

      • djloo27 said, on November 4, 2020 at 4:08 am

        The auditions for Pentangeli’s brother must’ve been a riot…

Missed yesterday. In a day of anxiety for our country. I just watched the 2010’s video. Pure joy! I needed that. Thanks Craig!

PS Qualifying offer to Gausman. YES!!! Seeeing that video reminded me it is funner to win. many teams will be cheap this offseason. Lets get some quality with less competition and get some good players!
