Noticed leading SoCal jockeys Flavien Pratt and Umberto Rispoli have mounts today at BC, though long odds on both their horses.
both are great jockeys (Rispoli is especially good on the turf). However it should be noted that many of the best jockeys have left SoCal in the last couple of years due to dwindling opportunities with shorter fields and absurd new rules that are not in place in other states. California racing is dying a fairly slow death and it is a terrible thing. One day soon Ca racing will no longer exist.

I think we’ll see continued consolidation (like banks) but it’ll never die altogether.
How the hell harness racing survives is the real baffler to me.

racing is still thriving in other parts of the country, there are full fields everywhere–except California. On track attendance wil be dead forever but that doesn’t mean the sport needs to die.

We lived for a couple of years on an Air Force base in England. A guy from the nearest village who called himself a green grocer used to come around the neighborhood selling vegetables etc. and taking bets on horse races. We were twelve thirteen years old but he gladly took our shillings. We’d run to a tv to watch the b/w track coverage. I don’t remember any of us ever winning a fucking thing. I guess that experience made me cynical about the sport, amazing as the horses and jockeys and training staff and races are.

For democrates to believe the only reason people vote for Trump is either racism, stupidity, or greed is so simplistic it is annoying. Maybe they vote republican because the Democrats have gone off the rails. In Ca the democratic state gov considering reparations? crazy. In this years vote a bill was put up to allow affermative action. Luckily it was crushed, as people think it’s a great idea until it sinks in that merrit isn’t the only factor to getting a job or a contact. They vote because they like a system where the wealthy already pay a lot in taxes, and the tenent of every democratic platform is “the wealthy don’t pay their fair share”. Where their is no thought to every wealthy person got that way because they had a great idea, risked everyhting for it, and the world loves it so much they got rich. A world where police are evil and it’s horrible to “play to your base” if a republican, but wearing african scarves at the capitol to pander for votes was ok when evil trump is pres, but not a peep out of any democrate when they controlled the house and senate with an african american president when Trevon martin killed. Apparently racism only became an issue for them recently…

When Brian Kemp ran for the GA senate against Stacey Abrams, and as the current secretary of state oversaw the election, there was little outcry as rejected ballots in Gwinnett County, as being a huge conflict of interest.
My concern is how does an openly psychotic wingnut like Donald Trump get 70 million votes when you do such a shitty job of doing anything? Acting like a petulant 5 year old whining about the press, destroying decades-long alliances while cozying up to dictators and openly lining his pockets at the cost of the people simply baffles me no end.
