A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Let’s Play The Ponies Today

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 7, 2020

Some pretty big balloons coming in yesterday, aye? 74-1? 30-1? I expect the same to unfold today. Welcome to the new horse racing blog!

For today, anyway.

There is nothing like the Breeders Cup. There’s no competition, other than the Olympics, where this many of the sports greatest athletes from across the world get together to compete. And it all goes down across two days. I’ve been to probably 5 Breeders Cups. Every trip was the trip of a lifetime.

I’m not putting my plays in the main thread but will update in the comment section as the day unfolds. Keenland often fucks with their track on big days and that can lead to a troubling speed bias. Let’s see how the first few races shake out.

First BC race is Race 4 at 9:02am Pacific Standard Time

They mess with the track? wow Pls explain “troubling speed bias” comment.

Manfred’s statement on Turner, who sent him a mea culpa for his behavior, is rather odd. He did make one salient point–mlb should have been more forceful once he had to leave the dugout and could have sent him back to the hotel.
Still, as PTI guy Wilbon said over and over, Turner was team player rep so he was in on all negotiations and signed off on covid protocol. and then violated them by running back out to celebrate and take photo, sans mask at some points. His excuse that he thought it was OK since Dodger personnel didn’t stop him does not stand up.

They can “soup up” a track if they want which can make it faster and more speed favoring in general.
Sometimes they do this on big days. Never bothered to ask why – I always thought it was to try to make news with track record times or to appease some owners. Belmont was like cement the day Ruffian broke down. That is a not fun fact…

  2. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 8:28 am

Not a big fan of Gamine here. Obviously could win but i like the 1/7 better. Even the 9 too

  3. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 8:29 am

i don’t know how the fuck with the track although I think it has to do with how they rake it, how deep they rake it, etc….

  4. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 8:29 am

Track is fast but seems fair.

    • willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 10:17 am

Wow Knicks favored to win something besides lottery pick.

      • willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 11:28 am

wrong place for this but Knicks Go did win

  5. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 8:30 am

1 horse set a 6F track record in race 1 and he was wrapped up the entire time. Could have gone faster. They should have run that horse in the sprint later today. That was a fuck up on their part he would have won

  6. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:10 am

    disappointing start

  7. willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:15 am

Baffert on board already after his horses tanked yesterday.
Another Zendejas doinks in FG for ASU.

  8. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:16 am

i went to Keenland once, maybe 14 years ago. Amazing place. This next race is probably the toughest on the card. I am taking a shot with the 4/6/9 in my pick 3 (and the pick 4 started in the last race with the favorite)

    • djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:19 am

      Like Leinster a lot here.
I’ve never picked a winner on the Flap…

      • Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:23 am

hopefully that changes today! This is reminding me of the time you, me and Denny took over the Splash. Can’t recreate that obviously but it’s still fun to have a place to talk about the ponies!

      • djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:39 am

I think what we did was take over a couple of dormant blogs on the Chron.
        Hilarious mischief!

  9. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:22 am

man, completely agree with this take

  10. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:42 am

    Flavor!!!

  11. willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:44 am

Rispoli get the 14 in there for third? Exciting race

  12. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:44 am

    that’ll workl!

  13. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 9:54 am

He lt me down big time in the Preakness but I am rolling deep with Art Collector again…….

  14. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 10:05 am

    Board is strange.
    Taking a couple stabs on 9 & 12…

  15. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 10:09 am

It annoys the fuck out of me that I can’t watch ND-Clemson in the bar tonight.
    The bar ain’t open.
Feel awful for the staff there…

  16. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 10:23 am

Guess we have our answer on the track bias.
    Just awful…

    • willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 10:27 am

yes thanks for what you said above in answer to my question. another track record already.

  17. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 10:28 am

firing the track up like this was dumb. It’s probably the reason the 3 broke down in race 2. Dangerous and dumb. The breeders Cup doesn’t need track records to be exciting especially when they’re falling every fucking race

  18. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 10:31 am

i like the Euros in this race (specifically 3/7/14) but I could see Lady Prancelot hitting the bottom part of the tri/super, she has a strong kick in the lane.

  19. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 10:53 am

if i was only allowed 1 pick I’d take the 14

  20. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 11:03 am

i didn’t hit that super but my 12 did get 4th at 70-1

  21. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 11:13 am

love the 6 here on top, love the 1 but probably underneath. 12/13 could hit 3rd/4th

  22. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 11:27 am

Like the 11, but 4-1 is an insult…

    • Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 11:29 am

agreed i like the 11 too on top. Still like 6 the best and 1/12 underneath. I’m not giving out fav’s but obviously they should be niggled in there too. Pissed I didn’t make any $$$ on Lady Prancelot but i didn’t have the 9 anywhere in the super

  23. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 11:41 am

never woulda had the 7 in a million years

  24. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 11:44 am

    I think I’ll get some air…

  25. Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 11:52 am

ok, that was a big hit against the confidence Big Flavor usually strides the earth with…….This race i think the2/ 5/11 are the most likely winners and my longshot is the 8 who could hit any of the spots. Just like the 12 at 70-1 who finished 4th a couple races ago, the 8 has a hell of a kick on his best day. Really the only time he didn’t show it was at SA when Espinoza rode him and kept him a few lengths off a 44 and change half. Totally stupid, that horse needs to sit back and make one run. If he relaxes early I expect to see him late……

Kameko–know someone with that name, pronounced with soft e by family. Played 4 yrs varsity b-ball and helped me coach younger ones for couple years, great kid wonderful family studying at UC Irvine last I heard.
Older bro played for me too, and he and his cousin also helped coach, both U of C kids at different places.

  28. willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 12:23 pm

The Brit gal doing commentary in red dress did have Irish entry #3, longshot that got third

  29. willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 12:27 pm

Harbs losing by 17 late 4th Q at Indiana.. Think he has only 1 year left on contract at Michigan, no talk of new deal yet, not good sign.

  30. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 1:33 pm

    Back for more.
    I’ll take the overbet Tarnawa…

    • djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 1:51 pm

      Well, that proves anything’s possible…

      • Flavor said, on November 7, 2020 at 3:02 pm

        nice hit.

      • djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 3:53 pm

        Just a little damage control.
        Glad it’s over…

  31. snarkk said, on November 7, 2020 at 1:35 pm

In that other horse race, Sleepy Joe came through in the stretch run.
I am as pleased, but for other reasons, as when the Giants won in 2010…

    • zumiee said, on November 7, 2020 at 1:46 pm

      🙂

    • xoot said, on November 7, 2020 at 2:24 pm

that was the slowest stretch run imaginable. They didn’t just deep rake the track, they plowed it and flooded it.

  32. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 1:53 pm

    Tim Scott 2024!
    Hope we’re all still here…

  33. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 2:14 pm

Takin’ a little stab on huge overlay, By My Standards.
    Can’t separate the main contenders.
    Flavor come back!

  34. mrsprtdude said, on November 7, 2020 at 2:59 pm

ASU game spactacular fail. Up 13 vs USC 4 min left. SC no timeouts. SC scored, got the onside kick, scored again. GRR. LA sports teams living the life right now!

  35. xoot said, on November 7, 2020 at 3:09 pm

The Dead Don’t Die is on hbo! Now there’s some good news. Funniest zombie movie ever filmed. Steve Buscemi in his keep America white again hat makes a fine cameo. It’ll get me closer to SNL’s cold opening. Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Iggy Pop (great zombie), Tom Waits (hermit bob), Chloë Sevigny (young cop), and many others.

  36. willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 3:22 pm

Winner Sleepy Joe will have to survive inquiry over obstruction claim in stretch but stewards should find he won free and clear.

Btw Nasreddine sired by Nyquist (sire of BC winner Vequist yesterday) won Del Mar race #5 by outdueling 2 favorites including 4/5 choice trained by Baffert.

  37. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 3:52 pm

MLB.COM likes Mike Minor for the Giants…

    • alleykat69 said, on November 7, 2020 at 4:55 pm

That would just be another Minor deal for a has been! Shit he turns 33 in December and was 1-6 last year. Get me excited some and atleast try and get in the Trevor Bauer sweepstakes instead. They have money coming off the books time to make your first big splash Z..

  38. djloo27 said, on November 7, 2020 at 4:23 pm

Quite a downpour at Del Mar…

  39. willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 4:39 pm

Irish score in first 33 seconds. Clemson was way behind early last week too.

Touchdown Austin Jones #20 from Bishop O’Dowd HS coached by Napoleon Kauffman. 7-0 Stanford.

  42. Macdog said, on November 7, 2020 at 5:50 pm

Philly station I listen to devotes a couple hours Saturday afternoon to letting listeners pick the songs. Quite the theme I heard going on today:

Georgia On My Mind — Ray Charles.
Hit the Road Jack — Ray Charles
Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye — Steam
    Philadelphia Freedom — Elton John
    Freedom ’90 — George Michael
    American Tune — Paul Simon
Oh Happy Day — Edwin Hawkins Singers
Celebration — Kool & the Gang
    Orange Crush — R.E.M.
(What’s So Funny ’bout) Peace, Love and Understanding? — Elvis Costello
People Have the Power — Patti Smith
John Lennon — Power to the People
Tears of a Clown — Smokey Robinson and the Miracles
Give the People What They Want — The O’Jays
Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now — McFadden and Whitehead
Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution — Tracy Chapman

    • willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 5:55 pm

      Edwin Hawkins good one.

    • xoot said, on November 7, 2020 at 6:03 pm

Great list. The Revolution Starts Now, Steve Earle would fit

    • zumiee said, on November 7, 2020 at 6:27 pm

      Great song list!

  43. willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 5:54 pm

Clemson can’t hang onto football fumbles dropped passes. Kid QB is fine not getting much help.

  44. willedav said, on November 7, 2020 at 6:08 pm

Oregon TE DJ Johnson from Luther Burbank HS of Sacramento. They recruit California really well.

  45. xoot said, on November 7, 2020 at 6:13 pm

Doug Emhoff and I started at the same white shoe firm and obviously he knew how to capitalize better overall than I did. But I guarantee you that if I were tapped to show up on that stage tonight, my expensive suit would’ve fit infinitely better.

    Disastrous Irish fumble…

Thanks for the heads-up that it was on tonight.

        Anytime, Zum.
        The timing worked out?

      • zumiee said, on November 7, 2020 at 8:53 pm

I missed part of it tonight, but I’ve seen it many times and never get tired of watching it. I’d watch again tomorrow easily.
