A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Getting Better

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 19, 2020

Wiseman seems like a good, safe pick with some big upside. I’m down with that. Bummed about Klay but that doesn’t torpedo the season. Warriors are in great shape unless another big shoe drops.

Trying to hard with this pic, right?

Depending on severity of injury, which appears serious, Warriors could be scrambling for starting shooting guard, which is not good given their bench guys at this position suck.
I did read today that the Bogdanovich sign/trade deal from Sac to Bucks is in trouble because he doesn’t want to sign with MIL, so he could be available as restricted FA.

The guy the Warriors drafted #48, Nico Mannion from Arizona, I don’t like at all. There were half dozen better guards in the league. He was very highly rated out of HS, but what I saw was he didn’t shoot all that well, was too slow to get to or finish at rim, and made questionable (I’m shooting here from 30 ft) decisions. He needed another season of college ball, at least.

Damion Lee? Granted it was when he was playing with scraps so his usage was inflated but i liked what I saw last year. He could do the job and not draw too much attention to himself. Right?

      • willedav said, on November 19, 2020 at 8:14 am

mm just me but don’t care much for Lee. Not good ball handler and makes questionable decisions trying to create for himself–bench guy OK for few minutes at a time, but definitely not starting G material or someone you want on floor late close game.

This guy talked lot of BS at start of last year because, as Steph’s bro in law (married to Sydel), when he made team for real he said he was tired of hearing he only made it because of that. And then went out and didn’t do much with minutes he got. Scoring points in garbage time situation when your team sucks and goes 15-50 like GS did is one thing but I’ve always been suspicious of guys like that. Losing NBA teams score 90 ish a game and some guys are going to put up ppg numbers and get 12-15 while their team is getting butts kicked while they are on floor. But doesn’t make them winning players.

Agree Willied..He looks like a smaller slower version of Tom Tolbert with that carrot top..
I liked that Shayler Mays kid are the kid from Michigan St ( damm I forget his name) Chilcoot?

Major Giants coverage on MLB.com today with Zaidi 7 minute interview and Guardado article. No huge surprises, but covers the basics and bases.

    • Flavor said, on November 19, 2020 at 8:27 am

Zaidi saying hitters now want to come to Oracle. Uh, yeah, if they keep right field closed up maybe they do

  3. alleykat69 said, on November 19, 2020 at 8:51 am

I’m not buying that theory from Z till he signs a proven hitter.
He does his best work Just getting reclamation pitching projects to try and squeeze some life back out of them in their fading careers at a cut rate price..

Look at how gussied up the mausoleum is for the world series. That Charlie O really went all out.

    • unca_chuck said, on November 19, 2020 at 12:07 pm

I guess time travel is a thing. There’s future Reggie Jackson, bottom right, watching his younger self.

  5. willedav said, on November 19, 2020 at 11:24 am

As Flav mentions, closing archways or not at the O is still to be decided. Baer also said months ago that a deciding factor would be how many fans would be allowed in once season starts. So if x amount of fans were allowed in, would that mean they would open the archways?

  6. unca_chuck said, on November 19, 2020 at 12:15 pm

I hadn’t really thought about it, but if the balls are hit in the air, how is the wind coming in from the archways affecting the flight of the ball?

You’d think it would cause the opposite effect if the wind was blowing into the field with the arches blocked, the air would be pushed up and over the wall toward home plate. Same thing with the wind blowing towards the arches. Open would give a freer flow than not.

whoa Chron says Thompson has suffered achilles tear.

    • willedav said, on November 19, 2020 at 12:41 pm

Out for the season, needless to say.

    • unca_chuck said, on November 19, 2020 at 2:56 pm

      If not 1.5

    • alleykat69 said, on November 19, 2020 at 3:34 pm

Feel just heartbroken for Klay after all the rehabbing he went thru and now this Torn Achilles injury just sucks!
He’s a dedicated man who I’m sure will take this latest setback head on,just hoping his age and Father Time has not ruined him going forward..

Is this the way it’s done now?

    • djloo27 said, on November 19, 2020 at 2:36 pm

There are 4 guys they don’t even have pictures of.
Keep scrolling and you’ll find 86 year old Joey Amalfitano still doing damage…

      • alleykat69 said, on November 19, 2020 at 3:48 pm

That’s just a crazy amount of personal Loo!
I counted freaking 73 positions! I think they even have a quality control position to tell a player when to piss&shit..
Well actually it might have to be changed some, didn’t the Giants in saving a whopping 10% across the board in there organization dump both Rags&Dunston recently?

      • djloo27 said, on November 19, 2020 at 6:45 pm

You may be onto something, Kat.
Would a digestion consultant be far fetched on that stupid list?

    • unca_chuck said, on November 19, 2020 at 3:40 pm

Some of those guys are gone. Righetti and Dunston for sure.

  9. unca_chuck said, on November 19, 2020 at 3:41 pm

I’m sure a lot of others.

    • djloo27 said, on November 19, 2020 at 4:20 pm

I guess they fired the website update supervisor…

  10. willedav said, on November 19, 2020 at 3:46 pm

    wow Loo that’s pretty bizarre.
But hey other sports aren’t much better.
Football—3-4 position coaches on O and D plus special teams and kickers. Above them are 3 co-ordinators and then above them the head coach. College isn’t any different.
NBA has to have 2 benches for all the assistants at games now.

  11. djloo27 said, on November 19, 2020 at 4:22 pm

The only reason I even looked at this page was because I was trying to remember the name of their pitching coach…

    • unca_chuck said, on November 19, 2020 at 6:02 pm

      Rags?

      • djloo27 said, on November 19, 2020 at 7:15 pm

        No, the current one.
        Would you have known it?

  12. alleykat69 said, on November 19, 2020 at 5:13 pm

Warriors are close in acquiring Kelly Oubre Jr from Oklahoma..

    • willedav said, on November 19, 2020 at 6:18 pm

yeah good move I like that guy. He can shoot and score some points. Used trade exception right?
Not gonna help their backcourt though.

  13. unca_chuck said, on November 19, 2020 at 6:28 pm

Yeah, they get our #1 if it falls between 21-30. If not, 2 second round picks. No salary transaction.

  14. Flavor said, on November 19, 2020 at 6:37 pm

Ouber Jr. a decent enough pick up. Needs to not shoot as much. Certainly a g9od.enoufg fill in for the Klay hole

  15. Flavor said, on November 19, 2020 at 6:38 pm

I mean, it’s essentially 2 second round picks. They used the trade exemption so good on Lacob there.

    • djloo27 said, on November 19, 2020 at 6:45 pm

      Any PaSalon updates, Flavor?

  16. Macdog said, on November 19, 2020 at 7:32 pm

Re Loo’s link to the coaches: Ethan Katz is still there as Assistant Pitching Coach even though it was reported last week that the White Sox hired him to be their pitching coach.

  17. alleykat69 said, on November 19, 2020 at 7:44 pm

Katz..Kratz it really doesn’t matter what your name is!!!
KNBR with Razor&Mr.T would use a pre recorded mic when a caller called in at times saying that it was pretty funny 😄

  18. xoot said, on November 19, 2020 at 8:10 pm

In his interview the other day Zaidi came close to calling Bannister a genius.

I see Murph’s name is still on the semi-ambulatory list. I thought they let him go this year. Dick Tidrow seems to have vanished.

  19. alleykat69 said, on November 19, 2020 at 9:39 pm

1955… Rock around the clock tonight was a number 1 hit
Dwight Eisenhower was in the White House
Marylin Monroe was starring in the 7 year itch

Which brings us to the San Jose St Spartans
which was the last time ever they have started out 4-0 in a season!!
Congrats to HC Brent Brennan who has won more games this year then his 1st 2 years taking over the program ,quite an accomplishment considering a program that’s always been second fiddle in the Bay Area…

  20. djloo27 said, on November 20, 2020 at 4:46 am

I think of only one thing when I hear San Jose State.
BTW, the white kid was totally down with it.
His name is one of the ultimate trivia questions…
