Sure, it’s easy to say this has been a terrible year, but I always ascribe to the take that you should appreciate what you have…….because it could always be worse. For instance…..
My mom and my step dad got Covid 6 weeks ago…..but they recovered.
Katie’s grandpa got diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer……but the treatments have shrunk his tumors by 75%.
Carson got da diabetes……but he’s get his insulin and he’s still alive.
My daughter turns 18 tomorrow…….and I have a lot of mixed feelings about that one.
I could go on and on. Bottom line is that I am thankful for my family, my job and everyone I work with, my incredible friends and even my country too though my belief in her has taken a hit over the last 4 years.
And of course for this place, The Flap. How wonderful it is that we can click a button and go to a place that makes us feel happy, connected and valued. In times like these we search for things to believe in. Places to go where we can appreciate, even for a moment, something good in the world. I appreciate and am thankful for all of you, you guys have gotten me through more than you know just by being here every day……..

interesting stat take: last November we had 911 unique visitors click on the Flap. This November it’s 1463 and there’s still a few days left in the month. That’s a substantial jump. I wonder what the change has been? Usually, if the team is playing well we see a lot of hits that year even in the off season. But that obviously isn’t it.
Maybe people are here more because of Covid and they’re home with nothing else to do? The last few months are in line with the same months from 2019 except November which is way up.

Saw some great college b-ball last night and more on today, plus Del Mar and of course football. I have to look it up but I do remember as kid one T-G the Lions thrashed Bart Starr and Green Bay. Seem to remember awesome pass rush, Alex Karras days maybe. Fun fact about Lions–secondary guys all had names that started with L—Dick LeBeau Gary Lowe Yale Lary (awesome punter) and Dick “night train” Lane HOF corner.

Flav, please investigate a ketogenic diet for Carson. The diabetes can not only be managed, but reversed using a low carb diet, no meds, nothing. It works. Diabetes is a devastating disease long term and directly tied to all manner of horrible morbidities, including COVID-19. The good news is that it can be reversed by simply changing the way we eat. Completely. And it will work for your cat too.

yes, the vet put him on insulin and a new diet. Luckily he likes the food. thanks for the video i will watch later.
With the right diet he can be med free. I take it Carson is your cat. I didn’t put the two together. I treated a diabetic cat for 5 years and wish I knew then what I know now. Sam needed insulin and ultimately subcutaneous fluids twice daily, which was hard on both of us. He ended up dying of kidney failure. That was a very rough day for me.
Cats are obligate carnivores. The best thing you can do for him is stop feeding him any dry food and get him as close to an all-meat diet as you can. Grains and cats do not go well together and, unfortunately, almost all commercial foods, including prescription diets, contain grains in some form or another, which is the worst thing you can feed a diabetic cat. Unfortunately, most vets are as clueless about nutrition as most MD’s are.
my favorite cat used to sing with joy when we fed him scraps of cooked meat, fish or fowl. excellent ploy. people at the table loved to hear him wail.

she’s a good handicapper and her husband is an underrated trainer. And they are both great people, they work their asses off. I think they have 3 kids, to raise them and deal with the rigors of horse racing, her husband is up at 3am every day……

interesting note about my mom— her husband decided to go on a fishing trip to Wyoming 6 weeks ago and took a plane to get there. He came back with Covid and gave it to her. They both recovered but she still hasn’t gotten back taste or smell after 6 weeks. Might never get it back again, her Dr. says

Irad Ortiz did win the stakes race #6 at Del Mar too. It was long, mile and 3/8 on turf and he came from behind btw horses with the favorite in last furlong to win.
like any other great jockey, and this would happen to Russell Baze all there time, he gets bet every horse he’s on even if they don’t have a chance to win. So he will burn some money. But one thing you get from Irad is a great ride, every time, often a HOF ride. He’s incredible. Horse may not be good enough but the ride can never be questioned.

non-racing people always say there would be no horse racing without betting. I shut them down by saying “horse racing is a huge sport in parts of the Middle East and gambling isn’t allowed.” I can now also add to that answer “and WillieD loves it and he’s not betting either.”

Should be some great QB options out there for this off season draft. Guys can come in nowadays and be successful right away in today’s game. Lot of spread offenses, short crossing patterns quick outs and rules that favor receivers and QBs quite a lot.

Ms. Blacker is fun to listen to and very insightful; I enjoy the post parade stuff at DM quite a lot. the other gal on site there is hot, Brittney Eurton, daughter of trainer Peter Eurton, but her interviews are kind of sappy and she talks too fast. And rarely gives any meaningful prerace tips.
same trainer R Baltas (Kentucky?) has won 3 of first 4 races at DM. Riders include Abel Cedillo Irad Ortiz jr and Manny Franco who rode for him successfully in stakes races in Kentucky. Impressive
i’m not sure where Baltas main barn is located but he’s a staple in Southern Ca.
but guys like Baltas are moving their horses all over the country to get away from the stupid rules and small fields in Ca….

I bet that horse hits the board (WillieD 1/2/3 is “the board”) and will be betting WPS on principal just to prove a point of what a stud jockey he is and 10-1 on him is a gift. (I normally would play the trifecta here but didn’t handicap this race. WPS a much easier bet considering I’m just betting him alone to hit the board.
he finished 6th about 2 lengths off the winner. But did you see what he did there? Saved all the ground, closed on the rail, that is what a smart jockey does. Horse wasn’t good enough.

That scene of John Candy sitting on the bench on the train platform, finally all alone until rescued by Steve Martin… I have done a lot of solo traveling around the world, rarely felt lonely, but that scene pulled at the strings…

Craig, your 10:24am about Niners’ QB drafts is interesting. Giovanni Carmazzi. I know everyone here hates Tom Brady, but I remember seeing a video on YouTube about Brady’s journey from highschooler to SB champ and it was centered on the 6 QBs that were taken ahead (well ahead…) of Brady in that draft. Of course Brady grew up practically up the road from The Stick and after his time at Michigan, the whole family was hoping SF would draft him. Interview with Mariucci was pretty funny, as he kind of just shook his head and smiled as he thought about their drafting of Gio Carmazzi that year. He said (half jokingly) that if they’d gone with Brady instead of Gio, Mariucci would probably still be coaching the 49ers….
Most of those guys were late round fliers. My only beefs were Drunkenfucker over Jake Plummer and Rogers over young sir Alex.
