NFL

Very surprised to see the Niners win AND the Raiders lose yesterday. I thought the outcome for both would be opposite and no doubter oppo at that.

Somehow the Niners are still in the playoff hunt. I’m not bothering to figure out what needs to unfold I’ll just root against all the NFC West teams. That will be an easy thing to do tonight.

Can someone explain to me what the Eagles are doing? Their plan is to give more snaps to Jalen Hurts. So now Wentz is sharing the job? Is this going to be like a college game with each QB running on and off the field all game in the middle of a series?

What are the odds the NFL will be canceling the season soon?

well, I saw there was record air travel over weekend, not a good thing. Wouldn’t care to be in airport/airplane myself though I know people who have. I think football can make it through another month though there are certainly challenges. Niners may make AZ a home base for while.

OK I’m gonna make the case that: given full complement of starting receivers and Mostert plus a back up, the Niners can win plenty enough games with G. Shanahan and Saleh have Goff figured out and the other two teams in division have been up and down enough with problems of their own (despite having mobile QBs) to be beatable. Dominant teams seem to be AFC.

Doesn’t mean a mobile QB shouldn’t be high draft selection, but imo G has more than enough skill to win with this group.

Flav did you see end of DM? the very last race Rosario and Ortiz Jr. almost had a dead heat…symbolic of how well they rode during their time at DM over Holiday weekend. Very enjoyable to watch.

    • Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 8:17 am

i did. Remember when I told you Rispoli and Prat were winning a ton of races since some of the best jockeys left town? It realy highlighted that when Rosario and Ortiz Jr popped into town and cleaned up.

      • willedav said, on November 30, 2020 at 8:33 am

yes very true. In races with out of town horses and riders, they dominated locals.

  5. Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 8:41 am

look at these photos. Lol, last 2 races were heart pounding exciting

  6. sandog said, on November 30, 2020 at 8:42 am

WillieD–how long have you been posting hot takes on horse racing? Is this a new thing (Like my recent obsession with English Soccer?) or have I just not noticed?
By the way, big win by Wolves at Arsenal yesterday.
My latest thing is to not watch or follow any NFL on Sundays and then watch NFL Primetime on ESPN+ having no idea what happened all day. Makes for an entertaining show. Yes, Berman is annoying, but I go way back with him, so there is some nostalgia there. And I think it’s a nice format for Booger and he has some good insights, and seems like I totally likable dude.

yeah pandemic related. the tvg racing channel is right next to all the other sports ones —tennis couple Fox ones, mlb nba nfl nhl and college ones for espn cbs sec pac 12. Only really got into Calif racing sites, and $0 dollars wagered (or lost!).

      • willedav said, on November 30, 2020 at 9:13 am

major Cal tracks only, Santa Anita and Del Mar.

i love that we get all this from WillieD simply because of the location of the tvg channel

Catching up Flav your daughter is already 18??? Wow time literally flies…

Who says no to this deal? Rays trade us Snell and Kiermaier for (grab your hats yes I am proposing this) for Yaz, Seth Corry, Patrick Bailey and either Hunter Bishop or Logan Wyatt…

    • gianthead said, on November 30, 2020 at 9:39 am

Yaz is the perfect low cost player the Rays would goo themselves over. Blake Snell arguably a top three lefty starter and he is signed for three more reasonably priced years. Yaz and a couple of prospects including our top rated pitching prospect and lefty, Bailey as a potential everyday catcher while we have our eggs in Joey Bart’s basket seems reasonable. Then Bailey or Webb for Kiermaier also seems fair.

Kiermaier probably a more suitable every day CF and Dubon can play some short against lefties and also moving Yaz allows the pursuit next two years of a right-handed true power bat cleanup hitter. And financially flexible enough for a low-cost deal for another reclamation starter.

A rotation of Snell/Gausman/Lester/Cueto/Tyler Anderson has a certain Giants ring to it…

      • gianthead said, on November 30, 2020 at 9:41 am

And also sets up for a pursuit of Correia or Lindor as SS free agents for next season…

    • Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 10:20 am

i don’t know about that offer but I can tell you the Rays aren’t taking anything but the highest rated prospects for Snell. Yaz is a good start because he’s cheap and ready to play now. Still think they’d want Yaz plus 2 top prospects and we don’t have two such prospects to offer

      • gianthead said, on November 30, 2020 at 12:23 pm

You dont put Seth Corry up there? Damn thought he would be considered legit as our best prospect arm paired up with Bailey. I really like not want to trade the Monster Hjelle if he turns into a closer. Also want to trade the young high school kid they drafted from SJ.

Santa Clara County and the 49ers have the worst relationship ever!
They really stuck it to the 49ers forcing them to scramble now to find a new place to play and disrupting even more they’re families lives. As usual it comes down to money the county feels the 49ers owe like 2 mil?Big deal, just solve your pettiness somehow, It’s just been a bad relationship ever since the first shovel went in the ground..

One thing for sure Shanny sure has the upper hand on McVay now winning 4 straight games against the Rams, I’m digging that, Goff is just a mediocre QB at best and the 49ers defense proved that forcing 4 turnovers. Great to get some weapons back,Samuel,Sherman,Mostert, were outstanding along with Jimmy Ward 2 forced fumbles! Can’t rule them out yet with an extra W/C team added, and if Kittle&Jimmy G make it back towards the last few weeks I’m sure they’re would be a few teams worrying about playing them in a first rd game..

  9. sandog said, on November 30, 2020 at 10:23 am

    I like the effort G!
I wonder if we will go after Correia/Lindor types? I don’t think we will. I also don’t think we’ll go the cheap route and try to bring back Craw for a bargain deal. Again, I think we will follow the A’s model and look to grow our own prospects and look for value/high-upside free agents. And I think we will be more aggressive about that once these 4 contracts fall off the books this year.

    • Winder said, on November 30, 2020 at 11:27 am

I think we are gonna take the grow within route also. Curious to see if any FA’s want to play for us this coming year.

      • gianthead said, on November 30, 2020 at 12:26 pm

I think we will have pitching interest from the Lester Paxson reclamation candidates who serve our and their own interests well coming in on one-year deals…maybe Straily coming back from my Giants…Lotte Giants!!! Bastards cancelled my Lotte Giants hat order🤣

    • gianthead said, on November 30, 2020 at 12:25 pm

Recent history suggest not landing that type of player but they did go all in after Giancarlo then Harper…so at least I think they pursue and have thought either Kris Bryant or Arenado who should have an opt out after next season are two other candidates..

  10. willedav said, on November 30, 2020 at 11:15 am

Kat, it’s the county medical office that has put more restrictions on activities locally. the city of Santa Clara, led by Mayor Gilmour (who is an old guard slime that has conspired to keep minorities out of city govt.) has been at war with Yorks and Niners for long time over Levi’s and $$$.

On Chron website you still to this day see lot of comments showing much hatred there still is for Yorks moving them out of the City.

    • Winder said, on November 30, 2020 at 12:56 pm

I believe the restrictions are for all sports activities HS, Stanford, SJ State etc.

  11. willedav said, on November 30, 2020 at 11:18 am

Would not surprise me if Niners did come back to Kezar you’d see place picketed by Go Back to Santa Clara (or anywhere else) contingent. And they’d be all over media too.

    • gianthead said, on November 30, 2020 at 12:27 pm

Cannot see the NFL allowing a game anywhere near Kezar…

  12. willedav said, on November 30, 2020 at 11:55 am

ESPN says Niners next 2 “home” games to be played in AZ. Practices, idk.

    • unca_chuck said, on November 30, 2020 at 1:21 pm

I’m sure the practice are gonna be in AZ as well as there is to be no contact in Santa Clara.

  13. Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 12:47 pm

serious tho, why do we still need passwords if they still make us do all this shit?

  14. Winder said, on November 30, 2020 at 1:08 pm

Willedav- I can’t remember a lot of the particulars with building a new stadium in the city but I think there was a lot of opposition for that to happen IIRC. One of the reasons the 49ers were so loved by the city is because of Kezar. It was so conveniently located that most people just walked there or took a city bus. The Niners truly belonged to the city. i was divided about the move but it seemed like a common thing with the NFL. I can see why some are still pissed.

Back here, they moved the Giants and Jets to New Jersey decades ago and are still called New York teams.
There was a lot of contention over that for a few years but it died out.
Still, the Buffalo Bills are the only true NY team…

  15. unca_chuck said, on November 30, 2020 at 1:20 pm

The biggest fuckup was Debartolo getting arrested as it allowed Dr. Kedorkian to let the passed stadium deal at the Candlestick site time out. The York dream was to move the whole kit and caboodle to Santa Clara. The vote for the stadium was decided by like 8,000 voters. It was a fucking joke.

But better than the team moving to Vegas or Carson, some shit.

  16. Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 1:29 pm

looks like Rosario wants to keep scooping up those easy So Cal purses (and stay away from the shitty NY winter)

    • djloo27 said, on November 30, 2020 at 2:15 pm

Usually, the top half dozen or so NY riders head for Gulfstream in January…

  17. djloo27 said, on November 30, 2020 at 2:13 pm

    Ravens game moved to Wednesday…

    • Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 2:14 pm

they moved that game 3 times but they couldn’t move the Bronco game 24 hours? WTF?

      • djloo27 said, on November 30, 2020 at 2:17 pm

How are you and Carson doing, Flavor?
I bet it’s all routine one week in…

      • Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 2:32 pm

so far it’s all good except for one thing: the sensor stopped working today. The vet didn’t seem too worried about it she said to bring him in next week and they can put another one on.
The shots are easy tho. Sometimes I distract him by brushing him but sometimes I just pinch the skin tent and shoot him up. He’s drinking less water now too so that’s a good sign.
        Thanks for asking!

      • djloo27 said, on November 30, 2020 at 2:50 pm

        Sounds good Flavor.
I usually give the cat a little scratch or brush right after,
so she associates it with something that feels good…

Man, love that replay of Bo Jackson destroying the Seahawks and Boz.

  19. unca_chuck said, on November 30, 2020 at 6:08 pm

They give Jalen Hurts ONE play? Whoever the announcer is had it right. It does no good to get Hurts one rep. One rep does nothing. Give him a series.

    • Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 6:15 pm

that was my point in the main thread. This is stupid, give it to one of them and see what happens. A play or a series does nothing but continue to sew uncertainty. They need something they can count on. Hey, give Hurts the series and if he does well keep running him out there. Eagles need a hot hand desperately.

  20. Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 6:18 pm

in the last 7 years the Eagles have drafted one pro bowler? LOL is that a real stat?

  21. alleykat69 said, on November 30, 2020 at 6:32 pm

Eagles really do suck, even there owner Jeffrey Lurie decided not to watch them play last week he’s so disgusted.. Wentz is a piece of shit, most picks, most fumbles, most sacks LOSER!!!

    • djloo27 said, on November 30, 2020 at 6:55 pm

Hard to believe how recently they won it all…

  22. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 30, 2020 at 7:03 pm

Craig, per your 6:50am post…. yeah, we had a 100-day stretch of no community infections after the 1st wave, and then this 3-month stretch of no infections after the 2nd wave in July/August… You do get used to it, the freedom to be out and about, but you’re still careful, all the time. This 3rd time, who knows how bad it will be, but it just shows how easy it is to re-awaken the sleeping virus. Now suddenly Saigon is the hot spot, all because Vietnam Airlines (the country’s main carrier, haha, carrier…) did not follow protocol for quarantining a flight attendant coming in from abroad, as she was allowed to isolate at home and shock of all shocks, didn’t isolate, contaminating her friend who is an English teacher who was out and about teaching at several language centers.

Now tracing all those students, and their places of employment or university, and their family contact (which, over here, is numerous), it’s going to be spread out. The guy also apparently went to cafes and karaoke. Geez, they should isolate the guy under normal times just for going to karaoke. Damn, I was going to go to a beachtown this week but decided to wait a week or two. Shoulda gone this week. A shut down, fine; lock down again, ugh. We’ll see what happens. Today? I’m going to my favorite day spa for a few hours of relaxation and nice “contact”, those places of course will be the first to shut down if it goes that far….

    • Flavor said, on November 30, 2020 at 8:01 pm

it’s so crazy how this is handled by the various countries.

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 30, 2020 at 8:14 pm

Obviously it’s a lot easier for a country like Vietnam, which is about the geographical size of California but with more than 90 million people, to control things better than a country the size of the US. But they’ve handled it pretty well here because of effective tracing and testing, right from the start. Plus the willingness of the people to, you know, actually follow the guidelines for the most part… Occasional local or regional shut-downs are the new norm. Hopefully won’t need another lockdown.

      • unca_chuck said, on November 30, 2020 at 8:17 pm
