A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Cats, Take 2

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 2, 2020

You guys know me. I loved cats so much I decided to start a cat blog. “A place to talk about cats.”

Ok, well not really. But I couldn’t move on to other more Flap-like topics until I posted these pics. The first one is a glimpse into the past. A young San Dawg, circa 1988, decked in dockers in a room with a lot of shit in it. He has a story about that cat but instead of digging it out of my text I’ll let him tell it at some point today…..

The next two are from the Great Mac Dog. I don’t know the names of his two grizzled vets but I’m sure he’ll tell us in the comment section.

Not to break up the cat fight but Eddie Rosario hit the wire yesterday. We could get him for the last year of his deal. Wth the arches closed he’ll be blasting balls into the water all day.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on December 2, 2020 at 10:23 am

Rosario has good power, but his OBP is a bit weak, ditto his fielding is so-so. Watched him a bit on Twins telecasts. He’s still pretty young and was somewhat of a fan favorite there. His price-tag is moderately high and trending upwards.

Cool photos. Flav, I take it that device on Carson is a continuous glucose monitor? That will make it a lot easier to track his blood sugar levels. All this stuff is hard enough for humans, but animals don’t know what’s going on so it’s even harder. I hope he’s doing well.

  3. chipower9 said, on December 2, 2020 at 8:06 am

Damn. It appears I changed phones back in 2016 (or at least that is how far back my photos go), so it will be a deep dig to find some picts of my cats.

Great picture of San-Diggity from back in the day. Cool shots of Mac’s gatos, too.

Unca – just saw the info on Rosario…I say jump all over that…

Stopped watching around halftime but surprised UK wildcats lost game to Kansas. Realize they have totally new team getting major minutes, plus some transfers like Mintz who played well. But still—incoming freshmen with little experience outside of HS and AAU ball struggling to play better teams at college level, to me this is challenge I see for Warriors Mr. Wiseman. Given he’s a big man with so little experience it’s gonna take time.

He’s going up against men, more mature physically and mentally/emotionally, with wide edge in the experience of playing, speed and physicality of the game and how it is officiated, and adjusting to living NBA lifestyle of constant travel daily shoot arounds yada yada.

  5. willedav said, on December 2, 2020 at 8:30 am

Rosario has certainly hit well enough last few years, but as LH idk if he’s that much of an improvement over Dickerson who does OK getting on base. Think Renfroe might be better option.
Really though, other than 1 OF and a back up IF, I just can’t see Z/H doing much with current roster of position players.
They are gonna go with most of usual suspects who you saw 2020–Belt Solano Craw Longo Wilmet plus Posey and back up, Dickerson Dubon Yaz. That’s 10 of the 13 already, and any big ticket guys seem out of question.

  6. chipower9 said, on December 2, 2020 at 9:23 am

Yeah, just comparing 2020, Dick had better stats (OPS, OPS+), and it a lot cheaper. Rosario will cost the Giants 11 mil if they decide to go that way.

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 9:39 am

Rosario will hit more bombs and likely stay much healthier. I feel like the window on The Dick is closing fast.

      • willedav said, on December 2, 2020 at 10:14 am

really? Dick had 1.085 OPS at home last year. They leave archways closed, no reason he wouldn’t rake at the O. Rosario has certainly had more consistent seasons behind him, but he seems like DH waiting to happen and doesn’t hit LHP much better than Dick.
I like the guy. Only health thing held him back last year was the phony positive covid test, right?

      • Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 11:12 am

look at the Dick’s entire career. He has been hurt many times. It’s one of the reasons San Diego gave up on him. He’s into his 30’s now. We’ve likely seen his peak, physically.

Great pictures of cats. I should search for a cat blog and a dog blog also since some of my best friends have been furry creatures.

lots of opinions in the media about what the Giants are gonna do. We should start seeing some stuff pretty soon.

Thanks for posting the cat pix, Flav. The top one is Winks, the bottom one is Zoe, both females. We got Winks sometime last summer along with two kittens, maybe I’ll send pix of those two wackos later. We’ve had Zoe for about 13 years. Sad to report that Zoe is not doing very well the last couple days and will be taken to the vet later today

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 11:13 am

really sorry to hear about that, will keep Zoe in my thoughts today.

    • chipower9 said, on December 2, 2020 at 11:19 am

Best wishes for Zoe, Mac. It is always tough when our pets are sick or nearing the end.

    • Bozo said, on December 2, 2020 at 12:16 pm

Hoping for the best for your girl Zoe, Mac.

When one has outdoor cats as I did (as well as the Housepuss squad) sometimes unfortunate outcomes can occur. As I was outside one night, adding personal mineralized water to a tree ,a great-horned owl swooped down and made off with a half-grown kitty. For the owl it was a cat-as-trophy. For the kitty the spelling would have been different, but the words sounding much the same.

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 11:17 am

WTF a fucking owl snatched up your live cat?????

    • chipower9 said, on December 2, 2020 at 1:46 pm

While I have never seen it myself, I have friends who have experienced owls snatching-up small pets.

My wife likes to rescue animals and over the years I think we’ve had 11 cats, as well as 3 dogs, a chicken and various birds. A few years ago there were 2 sister kittens waiting to be adopted together, we were just getting ready to head to New Orleans for a few weeks so I said lets wait until we get back and if they’re still there we’ll get em. Now at this point we were down to 2 dogs and 2 cats and in my mind that was a pretty good number, so I was kinda hoping the two kittens would be gone. When we got back to town they were still available, so our cat population doubled. One was going to be named Emily and I forget what the other one was going to be named. The other kitten was a ninja so she became Jet Li and her sister’s name changed from Emily to Emma Li. Emma Li was the docile of the two until we had them fixed. Emma Li had to go in 3 times because her stitches kept breaking and after that 3rd time she changed.
This is how she looks these days.

kent Bazemore has made 75 million dollars in the NBA. KENT BAZEMORE!!!!!!!

  12. Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 11:35 am

highly doubt we get Rosario. He just cleared waivers he’s going to have a boat load of suitors. Why would he come to hit in our terrible park in his last year before free agency? And don’t give me any shit about the archways being closed. For one thing, no one knows what Baer is going do with that so it’s an unknown that a guy like Rosario won’t gamble on. Additionally, the park is still deep as fuck out there, he’ll likely go to a much more friendly park

  13. gianthead said, on December 2, 2020 at 12:11 pm

Dawg, you look like you would have been one of my fraternity bros in 1988!!!

    • sandog said, on December 2, 2020 at 1:15 pm

That’s funny. Sigma Nu came after me a few times back in the day, but I resisted the temptation.

  14. Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 12:25 pm

Jose Martinez non-tendered by the Cubs. I’d be ALL over that dude, definitely more than Rosario. Think I’d still rather have Renfroe tho, of the 3

  15. alleykat69 said, on December 2, 2020 at 1:20 pm

I don’t see any upside in Jose Martinez mostly downside and his power numbers are nonexistent and at 32 not a good fit.Now Rosario at 28 with 119 HR’s still has upside along with Renfroe..

Looks like Closer Roberto Osuna is a free agent now, he would be a great add that the bullpen could use!
Are even Liam Hendrix I would be for as well.Hell go after both it’s not my money 💰, but 2 solid pitchers sure would be sweet!!

  16. sandog said, on December 2, 2020 at 1:22 pm

And those aren’t Dockers Flav! Dockers hadn’t even been invented yet. Those are bleached Levi’s. That was a thing for a while back in the day at SDSU at least where we would use a bucket or bathtub to intentionally fade blue jeans.
I also think I was rocking a KC Royals hat in that picture. Of course, the Giants were my team back then, but especially when I was younger, I liked rocking gear from a variety of teams.
And maybe you missed it yesterday, but every now and then back in the day we’d make a day trip to Mexico for Lobster/Beer/Tequila and other shenanigans. On the way home, we pulled over to take a piss and out of nowhere came that cat. My roommate scooped it up and we took it back to the states with us.
Fox later built a movie studio right in the area where we grabbed that cat. Master and Commander was filmed there, and maybe parts of Titanic as well?

    • willedav said, on December 2, 2020 at 1:40 pm

ha the hats: buddy of mine used to do that too back in ’80s. Had the Blue Jays white with bird, the classic Orioles white with bird as well. I still have Pirates black 3 rings, Phils red with white P in middle, Astros blue with H in middle similar to one they still wear today.
’90s White Sox black with 3 white letters became very popular, maybe bc Jordan wore one during his hiatus from Bulls.

  17. unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2020 at 1:44 pm

Wasd’t that right outside of Rosarito? Used to go to Puerto Nuevo all the time for lobster.

    • sandog said, on December 2, 2020 at 1:57 pm

Yes, that is the place. The restaurant we used to hit was not inside Puerto Nuevo, but it was close. It was called “Puesta Del Sol,” so we named the cat Puesta.
There is still a weird statue/structure thing that pre-dates the studio.right there where we pulled over and found the cat.

      • unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2020 at 2:04 pm

Yeah, know the place. Giant lobsters for $3.00 and all the Sol you could drink.

  18. unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2020 at 1:47 pm

The obligatory news is out that the Giants are ‘going for’ Ozuna.

    • sandog said, on December 2, 2020 at 2:04 pm

Renfro, Rosario, Martinez, Ozuna, Foltynevich, Paxton, Kluber…….I say we throw a big ass net out there and gather up as many of these guys as we can. Zaidi has carte blanche for 2021 in my mind with the rule being that he can bring in anybody he wants as long as they are on a one year contract.

  19. Bozo said, on December 2, 2020 at 2:07 pm

Does anyone know what is happening with the Minor leagues? I know that MLB is taking it over and they are also shortening the draft this year but do teams have to go back and resign the kids that didn’t make the practice squads last year? Do they go back into the draft? It would seem to me that there would be a lot of work involved getting those teams up and running again.

I leave here, and the place goes to the cats (not the proverbial dogs). I’d share my own pussy pix but I deleted them from my phone in case I die suddenly. You know the internet, though: THEY’RE SOMEWHERE.

  23. pawliekokonuts said, on December 2, 2020 at 3:45 pm

I barged in here to say I just discovered on Twitter how boorish, moronic, angry, stupid, insulting, and embarrassing Aubrey Huff is. Glad the Giants have declined to invite him to WS commemorations. And it’s not about so-called political correctness, the trope trotted out by right wingers. No, it’s about rejecting and not condoning, either by silence or association, hate speech. Disgusting.

  24. Macdog said, on December 2, 2020 at 4:02 pm

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 4:10 pm

that’s fine. We need outfielders. That shouldn’t preclude Z from going after Renfroe or someone better/more expensive.

  25. Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 4:29 pm

I’ve been trippin’ on this entire tweet all day. First he’s: “As I was outside one night, adding personal mineralized water to a tree” I mean wtf is that? And then a goddamn OWL snatches one of his cats off the ground? This should have been the FIRST Flap comment you led with, low those many years ago…..

    • unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2020 at 5:18 pm

Was that Stix pissing on a tree?

      • xoot said, on December 2, 2020 at 5:51 pm

yeah. Stix is good at that defamiliarization stuff. I have a reminder about that trope here on one of the adhesive-backed canary-yellow note leaves that clutter my desk.

      • Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:00 pm

LOL, now that you mention it, I think you cracked that code!

  26. zumiee said, on December 2, 2020 at 5:11 pm

Yeah, Pawlie, Huff is all about anger and hate on Twitter. He comes across as a miserable dude.

Schwarber non tendered but he’s gonna end up a Yankee, right?

    • pawliekokonuts said, on December 2, 2020 at 5:47 pm

didn’t you call him Farmer John or something?

      • Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 5:58 pm

highly unlikely. My nicknames are a little more high brow. You know what? I’d fucking love this guy on the Giants. Power to all fields, he’d be a huge fan favorite. Sadly, I don’t see where he goes anywhere other than NY

      • pawliekokonuts said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:11 pm

when he was on fire in 2016 you made some agri-demographic reference to Schwarber; the evidence is somewhere in the archives

    • Macdog said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:14 pm

Adam Duvall also non-tendered, now a free agent!

      • unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:34 pm

Yeah, let’s get him 3 years too late. Like Cutch.

      • unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:35 pm

Duvall’s fucking 32?!?!?!? We drafted him 10 YEARS ago??? No shit.

  30. Macdog said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:21 pm

Here you go Pawlie, from the Oct. 28, 2016 thread titled “Enough of Schwarber”:

Doesn’t it seem like an unusual amount of press is going to this Schwarber dude? I get it, he’s a good hitter. But the Cubs have the most stacked line up in baseball. The media is acting like the Cubs have no chance if Cornfield Schwarber isn’t playing. Uh, they did manage to get here without him just fine. Just sayin’.

    • pawliekokonuts said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:38 pm

Yes! I ain’t crazy! CORNFIELD SCHWARBER! About as high-brow as corn in August, dabnabit.

    • pawliekokonuts said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:38 pm

      commendable research

  31. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:23 pm

I think I also remember someone saying about Schwarber that he (his face? his head?) looked like a slab of raw meat…. Interesting how the cats pictured above are from SanDOG and MacDOG.. hmm…. SanDog, I thought you were wearing a dinner plate on your head. And why not.

    • djloo27 said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:57 pm

If anyone can pull off wearing a dinner plate on his head, it’s SanDog…

  32. Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:46 pm

yes, that is incredible research Mac. I don’t remember calling him that. Today I might amend that to “Cornfed Schwarber.” A little more creative, a little higher brow

  33. Flavor said, on December 2, 2020 at 6:47 pm

Also, come on, “Cornfield” is not a bad nickname. Farmer John is…..taken already and frankly “just ok” as far as nicknames go

Notable among Giants non tenders—Gott wasn’t on list. Surprised by Tyler Anderson. See if SF picks up an SP; that’s only $$ I think Z/H spend this off season beyond back up for IF. I like Dickerson signing and think he’ll be fine whether Baer closes archways or not; yes I’m ignoring SD history and focusing on what he’s done for SF. Like the night we were there!
