A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Can The Giants Make A Run in 2021?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 4, 2020

Despite all the craziness in our world today, I am really looking forward to the upcoming baseball season. Spring time has always been “let’s go time!” “Re-start time!” “Chi looking out that goddamn window time!” And with a likely vaccine making its way through our communities soon it may be “the best of ALL time.” Of course the Giants are not projected to win the World Series. Far from it.

Turning $100 into $6,000 sounds nice, right? Unfortunately, those odds also reflect an unlikely outcome for our team this upcoming season. So what does Zaidi have to do to get the oddsmakers to dial down those odds a bit? Though he’s still new here, I don’t see him making a big free agent splash. There is still too much unknown with what 2021 will look like and when fans will be allowed back inside the ballparks–like it or not, this will affect the bottom line of all organizations–nobody is going to want to spend. So expect Z to continue his dumpster diving ways looking to hit on the next Yaz/Dick/Gausman.

The reality is, 2021 might be a year or two early for us to start day dreaming about another World Series appearance. But baseball again? Hey, at some point we’re gonna have fans high fiving strangers like lunatics packed inside of Oracle Park. Man, I’ll be dreaming about that till it happens…….

I’m ashamed to admit it but I would not put $100 on the Giants to win $6K. I might put $10 to win $600. I would goddamn well put 1 to win 60

what? This makes me think about Kat’s disrespect of The Great Grave Duggar!!!!

  3. djloo27 said, on December 4, 2020 at 8:29 pm

Is Grave Duggar still in the mix for 2021?

    • Flavor said, on December 4, 2020 at 8:31 pm

dude, are you kidding me? He’s in the mix for life. If this fucker can get any traction whatsoever I am purchasing the single greatest jersey of all time.

also you should know I am spending the evening trying to figure out a way to get King Guillermo into the winners circle tomorrow. Snapper Sinclair to hit the tri/super.

“Hey, at some point we’re gonna have fans high fiving strangers like lunatics packed inside of Oracle Park.”

It’s going to be a long time before I want to be packed into anywhere with strangers. And that includes restaurants, movie theaters, and concert venues. That’s me, though. I can’t speak for others.

According to CNN, Covid-19 was the #1 cause of death in the U.S. this week.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on December 5, 2020 at 1:00 pm

Sstatistics don’t lie, but liars. (and dissemblers in this instance) use statistics. US overall death rate for 2020 to date is scarcely greater than 2019. Heavy majority of the covid reported deaths are death WITH Covid, but not necessarily deaths FROM the virus.

Co-morbidities are heavily involved and usually are primary, such as heart, respiratory, diabetes and similar debilitations. Hospitals are encouraged to cite covid as cause of death due to the government apparently compensating facilities some $13K for each covid listed mortality. There are agendas inside of agendas in the covid matter.

Yes, it is truly the primary cause in numerous cases, but is it the primary factor in most cases? Do some research independent of the Mainscream media and social media and get all sides of the story.

I find amusement during these trying times by watching Jiminy Glick video clips. They’re addicting. Here he interviews Jeff Goldblum:

Just got the alert on my phone that Contra Costa County is going into lockdown Sunday. Dont even know wat that means these days.

Shit, you got me watching these. This is AWESOME!!

Duggar still in mix? I don’t see how. Dubon as Kap’s everyday CF, OK I can see him penciling him in until inevitable slump. Carrying another OF that’s not an offensive improvement as a hitter seems like quite a reach.

OF looks like Yaz Dick Dubon for certain, 2 spots open. Ruf and Slater were offered contracts I’d imagine on make do basis. Both hit well, though I’d doubt more than 1 of them make it out of ST. Leaves one more and I’d think RH power guy on very short term deal (ala Ruf) would be what they are looking for.

Football had 5-10 thou in stands earlier and I could see that happening within 6 months at the O. Depending on who is on roster, San Jose sounds like place I’d be more interested in. Barring of course 2019 style meet up.

    • Flavor said, on December 5, 2020 at 7:00 am

Duggar is in the mix for his nickname alone. But yes, with all those non-tendered guys out there, guys like Duggar and Jaylin Davis probably have no chance of seeing the field in SF this year.

Loo–I need to hear it from a man with boots on the ground: how bad is the weather in NY today?

    • djloo27 said, on December 5, 2020 at 8:10 am

You probably know all this by now. A lot of rain overnight.
Just a mist now and gusty winds.
No sun – maybe track will be ” good ” for the later races.
Slopfest for now and loads of scratches…

      • djloo27 said, on December 5, 2020 at 8:18 am

Maybe Rosario will stiff the chalk in the See-gar.
FF doesn’t leave the barn if it’s cloudy…

yeah, the scratches ruined my interest in the late p4

Deep in the generally frozen-up belt for December 5, the Twin Cities are currently at 42 degrees and sunny. Heavy traffic on all arterials. Lots of shopping going on. So this year the northeast gets it early and nasty while the midsection basks in relative warmth. Go figure, global climate change nowadays requires a scorecard and possibly even an app for those who are into that sorta technocollegy.

Seems like what’s coming locally is akin to what was happening as things first broke open in March, At a produce mkt with fruit in outside bins yesterday afternoon, one of workers was stationed before you walked to inside entrance and made you stand in line until aisle was clear. Amount of customers allowed inside rationed. Plus they blocked off a sidewalk entrance/exit from shops nearby so one way in/out socially distanced line at checkout.

No more hair salon visits, yada yada

my daughter works at Brandy Melville and their usual occupancy is 16 in the store. They are allowed to have 10% right now. LOL. I was like “but there are 2 of you working there, you’re already over the limit.” She didn’t have a good answer to that, they still allow one person in at a time. How can a business stay open like that?

    • Carstie Clausen said, on December 5, 2020 at 1:09 pm

In 4th-tier suburban Minneapolis, the major supermarket I went to was wall-to-wall people and the parking lot was crammed. Masked Bandidos everywhere in the place. Minnesota and rest of upper midwest went through a heavy spike in covid a couple weeks back, but it now appears to be just past peak. From all indications Cali. is now going through a peaking situation. Crazy times.

I still believe in my soul that the world of Giants baseball has a place for a guy like Duggar who can run like the wind, plays a great centerfield, flares singles to the opposite field like Rod Carew, and has the best nickname in sports.
    Make it so Farhan!!!

    • James said, on December 5, 2020 at 10:13 am

The soulless geeks will always reluctantly play on those mystic chords of memory, because they know the few extra walks a smarter scrub would draw have such a small chance of making a real difference. We embrace their cynicism!

  12. willedav said, on December 5, 2020 at 7:33 am

hmmnn Steven Duggar and Rod Carew in same sentence has gotta be a first.

    • djloo27 said, on December 5, 2020 at 8:28 am

Well, we had Maupin & George Foster the other day.
My auto correct changed Jaylin to Maupin.
I left it alone. That’s how “Wilmet” was born…

      • Flavor said, on December 5, 2020 at 8:29 am

Maupin or The Grave Duggar? You guys know which one I’d turn to in a foxhole

  13. alleykat69 said, on December 5, 2020 at 8:46 am

With GraveDuggar in your foxhole you might as well pull the pin on your grenadine..

    • Flavor said, on December 5, 2020 at 8:58 am

lol. Surely you can’t say you’d take Maupin over him?

      • djloo27 said, on December 5, 2020 at 9:05 am

        It’s not even close.
The Grave Duggar rules the subterranean world…

      • unca_chuck said, on December 5, 2020 at 6:55 pm

Hah!! A fox hole IS half a grave

  14. willedav said, on December 5, 2020 at 9:31 am

Like other speed guys scrambling to find a job in how game is played today like Dyson and B Ham, Duggar just doesn’t get on base enough for the speed to matter.
2018 OB was .303, since then .278 and last year .222. He came to plate 36 times, was beaned once and walked once, with 6 hits 2 doubles 4singles.

Just guessing but ability to get on base and not make an out might be issue Giants have with Jaylin Davis too. Coaches at alt site didn’t see patience or enough selectivity to warrant a call up, very unfortunate.

Abel Cedillo won most races at DM in short season, with 19. Flavien Prat was second with 14 I think, but he missed 2 entire weekends off at BC.
Ortiz Jr. won 6 races in his 4 days at Del Mar, Rosario had 4 winners in same period.

  16. alleykat69 said, on December 5, 2020 at 9:34 am

I do have to say Kapler is screwing with Jaylin’s head when he calls up every option possible but him(Wasabi,GraveDuggar, Robertson) to play when Yaz,Dick,Slater were all hurt! Fuck Kapler for not giving him is just do down the stretch last year, then just teasing him by leaving him on the standby callup squad with no intention of bringing him up…

    • willedav said, on December 5, 2020 at 10:33 am

Rickard too. idk man there is something going on behind scenes.

  17. alleykat69 said, on December 5, 2020 at 10:46 am

For sure Willied if these young hotshot coaches ( and I think they did a really good job compared to the incompetent duo of Schu&Powell before them) could get Craw,Belt,Longo to produce with better seasons then I don’t see giving extra time with Davis could of only helped. And who knows if he was up the last month and if got hot he could of had an effect securing that last playoff spot when they faded in the end..

  18. mrsprtdude said, on December 5, 2020 at 11:20 am

It was also lame because they still have no way to evaluate him on MLB level. A wasted year.

  19. James said, on December 5, 2020 at 11:38 am

The AAA numbers Davis put up before SF got him are exactly what you want to see, so it’s frustrating that he isn’t on track. They were, however, right that Bart wasn’t ready and if Posey had been around, they’d have probably also kept The Next Great Georgian Hope in purgatory. Davis would have largely taken PAs from Dubon, not Duggar, Rickert etc, if they’d have given him the extended look there’s a clamor for. Presumably they have more long term faith in Dubon than Davis right now, despite the greater potential in JD’s 2019 minor league numbers.

Under radar pick for QB might be Texas AM guy Kellen Mond. He’ only thrown 2 ints all season vs. 16 TDs as senior, and is carving up Auburn today 28-20 in 4th Q.

tomorrow morning 8 AM our time, http://www.kcsm.org will air 30 minute archived interview with saxophonist Sonny Simmons. Usual format is for announcer to play snippets of 2-3 cuts interspersed with talk. Should be fun, no idea when this might have been recorded. Mr. Simmons is still alive too, aged 87.

LaLaLand for sure: Seems like Mayor Garcetti just banned “unnecessary foot travel”. That means one cannot simply go for a walk down there. Will he ban walks in LaBumbos games at the LAtrine? Stay tuned for more updates from the land of dates, figs, Orange County and assorted fruitcakes.

    • xoot said, on December 5, 2020 at 2:23 pm

      No one walks in L.A.

There’s a ban on unnecessary vehicle traffic, too. Now that’s significant. But I’m sure curbside pickup at Langer’s and Canter’s is necessary.

MLBTR listed at a bit after seven Central time, that SF is looking at some of the non-tendered guys. It’s still at the top of the site’s listings.

I read an article recently that the rules were changed in football in 1906 to allow the forward pass because 18 players died playing football in 1905. The play in the sport was too clumped together. And the new rules cracked down on uneccesary roughness, like kicking other players in the head. Protective helmets didn’t arrive until much later.
“The new rules allowed for forward passing of the ball – adding the position now known as wide receiver and turning football into the sport we’re now familiar with. Allowing the forward pass opened up the game, spreading the players out across the entire field. It was a change designed to eliminate packs of players scrambling and viciously vying for the football, which is where many injuries were sustained. The new rules stopped the game when a player fell on the ball in order to eliminate heaps of men trying to get the ball, and allowed the ball to be kicked down the field.”

Stanford takes down UW 31-26. Mills throws for 250, Austin Jones from Bishop O’Dowd Oaktown runs for 138 more and seals W with 4th down run.
There’s just no way Stanford ever fires David Shaw, one of handful of black head coaches. like boch he’ll go out on his own terms.
And um, have a feeling R Osuna NOT ever gonna be a Giant either.

  31. alleykat69 said, on December 5, 2020 at 6:13 pm

What an idiot the WR for LSU just made on a TD catch and run when he clearly dropped the ball on the one yard line showboating. The irony is they gave him the score even after looking at it, so the replay booth folks are just as stupid as it should of been ruled a touchback.
Guess it doesn’t matter anyway Bama is blowing them out 28-7
