Christmas Time
I can’t deal with the Niners right now.
Rachel, my friend and former workmate, asked to see a pic of my tree. I like making Rach smile and I know this will do just that. Katie and I got to the tree place yesterday at 3:30 after she got off work. They had 8 trees left. We took the most fucked up one and decided to challenge ourselves to revive him. You should have seen this thing when we dragged his ass off the lot, he looked like a Flapper walking out the bar sideways at 2am.

And here is a pic of the elder statesman, Carson. This will be his 13th Christmas and maybe his last. Everything ends at some point, right?

After hearing the terribly sad news about Snarkk’s MIL I hope we all spend this holiday season appreciating what we had, what we have and what tomorrow will bring. Loo is right, live in the now. It’s too easy getting caught up in what used to be. The holidays make that shit worse, I know.
Tonight I live in the now. And it’s fucking awesome.
Nice job with the tree, I was imagining a Charlie Brown kind of thing…. And yes, *now* is all we have, really… Best to make the best of it.
Nice tree, flavor. I tossed a pic of ours in the photo bucket but can never figure out how to post a pic or I’d share mine too.
Spectacular tree, Flavor and don’t underestimate Carson.
If you stick with the program, he can live many years…
I should take my own advice.
I really haven’t gotten past 1974.
Who’s this Montefusco guy I been hearing about?
very nicely done. Carson holding court there; hope treat awaits him under tree. Phil Jackson used to try Zen stuff from Shunryu Suzuki on Bulls, such as to live in present moment (not let your mind get caught up in last play or revenge mode), good advice.
Saw something last night don’t think I’ve ever seen–Stanford womens player Fran Belibi stole a pass late in second quarter took off coast to coast ahead of pack and dunked with her right hand. I’ve heard she’s done it in pregame warmups but that was quite a play.
You guys mentioned Brenden Rice for Colo vs. Utah. I also saw Colo punter deep in his own territory on 4th down not be able to pick up the snap back to him, and with ball lying on the ground, kick it forward 20-30 yds for what I thought was a heads up play. Only it’s illegal to do that, and the penalty comes with loss of down, so Utah took over the ball and got to move it half distance to goal.
Isn’t that just a form of drop-kick? Is that just a college rule?
Dunno but the announcers called it right away as something you can’t do, move the all forward by kicking it off the ground.
this was such a terrible time. And the ornament we had broke….
https://oneflapdown77.com/2012/12/24/have-a-merry-giants-christmas/
great thread though, and 2012 giants christmas cool theme. That one was not easy and it’s still amazing to think Giants had 3 WS in the decade. Dodger fans gloat about finally getting one after all these years.
Complete with a little Twin paranoia…
I saw a play where a DE slammed his arm down on a QB’s arm running for a 1st down during a tackle and knock the ball out. He was penalized for that play. I’d never seen that before.
LOVE IT!!! Thank you Craig!!!! Smiling wide over here in ole Utah 🙂 I also got a super scraggly tree with my roommates and nothing like some lights and ornaments to spruce it up a bit. Wish we had a cat. Happy Christmas my friend!!
hey you posted! Thanks Rach, yes get a cat. Or two. They are the best. Merry Christmas!
Loo, have you (or any other Flappers) been watching the documentary series about New York City in the 1980s, called “Empires of New York”? It’s been running on Sunday nights on CNBC. It’s an overall look at New York City in the ’80s, with a focus on five people in particular: Trump, Leona Helmsley, Ivan Boesky, Gotti, and Guiliani. For someone like me having lived my whole life 3,000 miles from New York City, it’s been interesting to watch the series.
I haven’t, Zum.
I’ll try to catch it…
Philly station I listen began doing a 24/7 countdown last week of the 2020 greatest songs as voted by their listeners. Mostly rock and R&B, but other genres as well. The top of the list will likely be the usual suspects — Stairway, Like A Rolling Stone, etc. — so it’s been interesting to see what’s been played on the lower end. They’re even keeping stats — Beatles and Stones are the top two for most songs. The Dead are also well represented.

Red Sox pick up Hunter Renfroe on a contract a shade over 3M.
IMO, Zaidi was Zzzzzman on Renfroe.
Lol, cats and trees. If your cats are like ours we put all the ornaments worth saving up higher in the tree because it never fails that a few get busted. it’s just an opportunity that my cats just can’t ignore.
Reading the posts from Dec.2012 just reminds me that there is still much compassion and love in this world. It is so terribly sad that psycos continue to use schools as a means for their evil.
This post was political in nature and removed by BIG FLAVOR
who’s going up to Twain Harte soon? I thought I read a Flapper was headed there. I have a lot of history up there, my family went there at least 10 times back in the 70s.
Looks like the light stringing technique is unchanged from 2012 to 2020. Was popcorn strung on the 2012 tree?
actually this year’s lighting was a bit of a clusterfuck. Katie showed me a tic toc video of someone stringing lights vertically. So we tried it (grudgingly, I was mostly against it). Then we had some lights go out so we stopped and we to the store to buy more lights because this bitch needs a LOT of lights to distract from that fact that he was drunk and homeless when we bought him. So then we get home with the new lights and I said “fuck it” I’m wrapping the lights horizontally because I am a man and I don’t even have tic toc and that’s how I roll.
So, untangling the vertical AND horizontal lights are going to be a complete bitch when it’s time to take this one down…
lulz – saw that vertical lights video too and just couldn’t do it.
So, as it stands now, what does our outfield look like?
I’m thinking its Ruf and Dick platooning in Left, Yaz and Slater platooning in Right, and Duggar playing every day in Center.
That looks pretty damn solid to me. Maybe it was a good call passing on Renfroe. I mean, who from that group would you bump out for Renfroe???
And I don’t want to hear anything more about Davis. He’s obviously got more baggage than an equipment manager. I don’t think he’ll ever play for the Giants again and I’ll be shocked it he is still on our 40 man roster on Valentine’s Day.
OK besides the obvious, only one of Slater or Ruf make it. I’m with Bozo this was missed op by Z/H. Renfroe has a good arm and way more power than either one of them. slater had nice small sample size last season, Renfroe did not but has much better history of being able to provide RH pop. And speaking of history, even if the job coming in was only to play 60 games in OF, Slater could NOT handle it.
Like him or not Kapler figured out who his best option for CF was 2020; Giants aren’t turning Dubon back into a pumpkin of reserve IF. Unless Dubon gets out dueled or hurt, or someone better is brought in, don’t see how that changes.
Finally common sense talk on the grave duggar. Renfrow miss is ok, there are other RH bats put there who would tickle my fancy in a platoon with the Dick
just guessing but I’d say Yaz is in there everyday, whether he’s in RF or CF.
living in the now. no other way. n.o.w.
Well done on the tree! Christmas chudos.
Yes. Yaz is locked in. If I was running the show The Grave Duggar would patrol center for 162. Then that leaves RF for The Dick and hopefully a RH bat we sign. Slater is going to be like like a 2am chick–not your first preference but *good enough*. That reminds me of a classic Tenacious D song.
Now you tell me. There’s other than 2am ones?
BAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So am I the only one thinking that the new Cleveland name should be Steamers? Just think how much fun the mascot and logo would be for a Cleveland team with Steamers written across their chests/
I alluded to it yesterday, Bozo but nowhere near as cleverly as you have…
Sorry I missed it, Loo.
I haven’t read the posts on the last couple of threads, I’ll go back and check it out.
Great idea.
Hah, you know what they say “if the naming season ended today”, you know they could just put a stain across their unis and be done with it.
Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Steamers, no words needed..
LOL, YES!
The Grave Duggar might need a monster Spring to crack the every day line-up, but considering how injury prone Slater and Dick are, it would be foolish not to keep him around. He finished the 2020 season on a 3-4 (.750) tear, raising his average 76 points in the process. Clearly, the proverbial light has gone on. We can only hope Giant management won’t be blinded by it…
U don’t thing the GraveDuggar isn’t as accident prone Loo?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Elites. Lake Erie is big enough to have a coast.
Hey Flavor is was me that was going up to Twain Harte/MiWuk Village for Christmas. My daughter had a real nice cabin all dialed in, but unfortunately due to the covid spreading the renters decided not to take a risk so her deposit was refunded. Can’t blame them it comes down to liability, and who’s to say if it’s not immediate family ( which it would of been)showing up..So were all staying home which is probably the right thing to do, but still bums me out alittle.
Yeah I love that area, growing up a neighbor had a cabin in MiWuk just a few miles up the road was Dodge Ridge Ski Lodge, lots of fun, another cool spot no longer there( late 60’s early 70’s) past the small town called Strawberry was a site called Bumblebee Hill which was carved out like a water slide with about 7-8 lanes you would rent a toboggan and go balls out down this large hill, once u got to the bottom a conveyor would pull the toboggan’s back to the top as u would walk up these stairs to the top again.
Summer time was always bitchin, camping 🏕 at Pinecrest lake, fishing, campfires, hiking around the lake. And then going into Twain Harte, cool shops, pinball machines, miniature golf course( still there, ice cream parlor shop, Twain Harte 9 hole golf course in the pine trees 🌲 beautiful setup, and the lake they have their if you’re fortunate enough to have a pass ( with a rental cabin) the lake had a beach, food stand, sno cones, bingo night etc.. And for another special treat it’s a must to go to Diamond Jim’s for a prime rib dinner and full bar!! Been open since the early 60’s thank god!! Yeah any stop from Sonora to Twain Harte and above is heaven!!
A trivia fact that a lot of people don’t know is that there is 2 small towns in California named Strawberry, the one on highway 108 past Twain Harte, and the one near the summit on highway 50 near Echo Pass..
Forgot the outdoor movies at Pinecrest lake on Friday’s And Saturday nights under the stars ⭐️, a must go to!! sorry for the long post..
Used to have a blast at Pinecrest. They also have some fantastic hiking trails that actually do go on just about forever. My favorite lake to just get away and fish was Cherry lake. Hike in close to the dam and you were catching trout all day
Yeah Winder I really liked going to Cherry Lake as well.It is such a beautiful lake, with really outstanding fishing 🎣 with a nice campground and hiking as well..
The water in the Bay Area at Crystal Springs comes down from up there, the Hetch Hetchy pipe system.
Bay Area water is really good out of your tap.As an old neighbor use to say :There’s nothing like Hetch Hetchy on the Rocks!
Yeah looking forward to some Twain Harte photos Flavor thanks!
awesome! Sorry you guys can’t make it this year. I’m gonna post some Twain Harte pics tomorrow because that’s all I have to do these days
I’m walking distance from Brooklyn’s world famous Dead Horse Bay.
Can’t wait for the summer! Come on down!
what in the fuck is that?
https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/dead-horse-bay
Nothing says Yuletide like scatological fetish. Great job Bozo and Loo. Fir and spruce are better, I think. I felled many black spruce, some fifty, some maybe a hundred feet tall. After that, xmas tree farms seemed strange. But when my kids were young I went through the rituals. Luckily, we had a high ceiling. We enjoyed the festivities. Lately, it’s pleasantly bah humbug for me, although I do share at the end of the year.
I have a photo of a Willie Mays Christmas card I’d like to post, but I can’t figure out how to post photos. Any ideas?
Unca_Chuck, hipped me to loading the pic to flickr and copying the link from there to your post. It worked for me awhile back.
This article talks a lot about Ricky’s (no mention of Finnerty’s)…
https://www.si.com/more-sports/2020/11/25/sports-bar-closings-covid-19-daily-cover
I just strolled through the Finnerty’s website and, though no mention is made either way, things look flat; doesn’t seem current. Let’s hope only temporarily.
I think an employee tweeted that it’s all over a couple weeks back, Pawlie…
Xoot, open a flickr account. it free and easy. When you upload a pic. open it in flickr and you can copy that link and drop it into a post.
