A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Hump Day Thread

Dubs starting to come together a little bit–which was to be expected. Of course, this was Detroit so……..but that Wiseman block and coast to coast slam was EXCITING!

Do any of you guys follow Trevor Bauer on Twitter? He seems like quite the easy to disrupt drama queen. And his agent looks more like someone’s hot girlfriend than an actual agent—she tweets like it too.

Well, we don’t have to worry bout Bauer. We shop in the Brebbia aisle…….

Bryant Gumbel’s Real Sports on HBO did a segment on Bauer back in 2/20. A maverick that his dad, using is engineering skills, taught him an unconventionally approach to development of his pitching skills. They worked as a team and pissed off a lot of his coaches over the years. Being a nerd from his youth, it’s fitting he is what he is.

Yeah that was great play. Still, no Nico PT…what happened to Bazemore, who has 16 minutes all season? Is he hurt? Yes Pistons are awful. Curry um 8 turnovers unacceptable. I’m starting to like #10 as best bench G.
In that vein, noticed N Jokic of Denver (who lost to 3-1 Kings) had quadruple double. 26 points 11 boards 12 assists—10 turnovers. Entire Kings team had 10 all night. He is fun to watch though.

Giants are at Dollar Store looking for best bargains. Passan on ESPN yesterday was pleasantly surprised that at least one ML team was actively trying to get better and not complaining about how they need to cut back on spending/ much $$ they lost.

Pavs on nbcbayarea site had column with Z said Giants would be aggressive at promoting young hitters. So if a Luciano Canario Toribio skipped low A and went right to A ball in Salem, hit well for a while, that could follow Bart/Ramos pattern of being promoted for month or so of AA ball.
We saw what happened to Mr. Bart after a good month of AA ball 2019. Ramos in AA ball didn’t hit was well as Bart. Slash line .242/.321/.421 for .742 with 3 bombs in 95 ABs. OK maybe starts in Sac, but can any of these guys, like Bishop or Wilson who were at alt site (in other words useless for game experience) turn out to be ML players before 2023, should they all progress well through system?

  4. Flavor said, on December 30, 2020 at 8:20 am

I’m hoping the Giants use these developing young studs as trade pieces, too. Goes both ways, too. Remember how the Padres got Taits? They traded James freaking SHields for him!!! Anyway, don’t just promote your studs. Trade for them and trade them. Of course, these fucking guys have to play to develop. Are we going to see a minor league season or just a bunch of dudes in Sacto playing long toss all season long?

  5. alleykat69 said, on December 30, 2020 at 8:47 am

Padres also made some shit trades that didn’t pan out, acquiring Kemp,Upton, and Kimberl so u don’t always strike gold.

  6. willedav said, on December 30, 2020 at 9:01 am

Tatis Jr. was 17 yr old kid who’d hit .273 in minors for Sox at time of trade to Padres.

    • Flavor said, on December 30, 2020 at 10:10 am

exactly. But they HIT on that. You have to hit on shit you can’t straddle the middle of the road and keep adding free agents to your over the hill aged vet team. That doesn’t work anymore. Thankfully, I think Z understands this and we are headed in the right direction. But, he’s still got a lot of work to do and a lot of guys to hit on before we start looking at signing the Bauers of the store. Till then…..loitering in the fucking Brebbia aisle.

this is the kind of shit Bauer’s agent posts on twitter. Why is this chick his agent?

    • Macdog said, on December 30, 2020 at 10:56 am

She’s also the agent for Yasiel Puig.

      • xoot said, on December 30, 2020 at 11:35 am

She spent a year as an mlbpa lawyer handling arbs. 22 in one year. Then went out on her own. JD from Pepperdine. Always a red flag becz of its right wing well heeled Christian bent. But maybe she’s the sort of over ambitious lean in ex jock who can succeed as an agent now.

      • gianthead said, on December 30, 2020 at 11:42 am

So Xoot you are saying Pepperdine red flag is a good red flag then…lol…

      • xoot said, on December 30, 2020 at 11:46 am

absolutely. Gives you a heads up on the motherfuckers

We got zero shot with Bauer…I put my eggs in the Puig basket last off-season so I am not spending an ounce of energy on free agents…I could see a Musgrove level deal. Bottom feeders.

main character in today’s Perry Mason rerun was a racing thoroughbred that (who?) came up lame and got trailered away to Mexico

thought you were talking about the new one.

      • xoot said, on December 30, 2020 at 3:45 pm

the new’s promising. My son really digs it, for some reason.

      Yeah, I really liked it.

I just hope we can get enough games in to really see what we have. If the Minors can run a full schedule that would really help. I don’t see anything big happening this year and as far as trade bait I don’t see very much. We as a team looked like gamers last year and that in itself is something to build off of.

Carson update: His glucose levels are ok but he hadn’t taken a shit in 4 days. So….back to the vet. But good news! I gave him a laxative and his mud is now flowing like the Euphrates…..

    • djloo27 said, on December 30, 2020 at 5:46 pm

My cat had the same problem, Flavor. I mix a small amount of Miralax in her food in the morning and she also gets a pill called Cisapride twice a day – sometimes 3 a day if she’s real backed up. That’s great news about his glucose levels…

      • Flavor said, on December 30, 2020 at 5:48 pm

you give her miralax every day? I was just thinking of doing it till he’s back on a proper mud schedule. But if you say every day that’s good enough for me!

      • djloo27 said, on December 30, 2020 at 6:09 pm

It was the vet’s advice. Just ⅛ to ¼ teaspoon and see how it goes.
You don’t want the reverse to happen if he gets too much.
I had to get those special little measuring spoons that cooks use I guess.
        I even keep a chart…

      • Flavor said, on December 30, 2020 at 6:11 pm

i got those special measuring spoons cooks use, dawg. Measured out 1/4 teaspoon twice already today. Never used the fucker before today

Nice words… but was reading something not long ago about “behind the scenes” on Gilligan’s Island. Apparently everyone hated Tina Louise (prima donna, no surprise) and between shots, she was usually off by herself somewhere. She expected to be *the star* and was pissed that Dawn Wells became America’s sweetheart…. oh well. Oh Wells….

      • Macdog said, on December 30, 2020 at 7:43 pm

Yeah, she was the only one who wouldn’t take part in any of the reunion TV movies they did in the ’70s-80s.

BTW, Flavor I also give the cat a capsule of PROVIABLE- DC every other day. It’s a digestive health supplement…

      • Flavor said, on December 30, 2020 at 8:09 pm

you’re throwing too much shit at me. I give this fucker 2 shots a day, something I never in a million years thought he would tolerate but he does, now I’m sprinkling mud-teasing dust on his food twice a day and now you’re pitching capsule stuff at me? Loo, make it stop I can’t manage all this!

      • Flavor said, on December 30, 2020 at 8:10 pm

I’m just kidding. You’re basically my vet although I wouldnt tell Adobe that they might kill themselves. I do what you say.

it must be a trip for Ginger to sit here tonight and realize she’s the last one left. Everyone in my family is still alive except my grandparents, I wonder what it’s going to be like when everyone is gone. I thought about that a lot today when I was on a run. What’s it going to be like when my parents are gone? They live in different states, but what’s it gonna be like when I can’t call and say what’s up? Or go there and golf or whatever.

  21. Flavor said, on December 30, 2020 at 7:59 pm

it sucks that Ginger is the last surviving castaway, in terms of who was coolest she was easily the last one.

    • willedav said, on December 30, 2020 at 8:14 pm

Not easy for actresses of certain age to find roles. TV, especially something as secure as that gig once Island became a hit, had to be lifesaver for her. Movie industry in America different from other countries.
I watch Perry Mason reruns a lot too, and in many of them is at least one very beautiful actress in supporting role. I look them up and find most did a lot of TV in 60s; some appeared on multiple PM episodes.

      • xoot said, on December 30, 2020 at 9:28 pm

The woman who produced PM from the start employed old radio stalwarts and women who deserved work. Interesting history.

  23. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on December 30, 2020 at 8:20 pm

“When everyone is gone…”… Read something once about how all humans crave immortality because the thought of mortality and being forgotten over time is just too unbearable. So they try to leave something behind for others to remember them by: a published book, recorded music, etc. Of course having children. I haven’t published anything beyond a poem or two, got no kids…. it dawned (haha) on me the other day that some of my dearest students will probably be the last ones who *might* remember me, over the next 50 years or so, and then, nothing, no one. Hmm, maybe not too late to go have a kid… 🙂

In the immortal words of the great Ching Chow:
“We do things for posterity, but what does posterity do for us?”

    • willedav said, on December 31, 2020 at 7:23 am

Paul I’m sure your influence will be reflected by your students when they have their own children and can apply some of what they learned from you. The Asian influence in south bay area has changed the school system quite a lot; many of local public schools are quite high academically with strong Asian presence. Generalizing, but as a Viet lady business owner told me, her family and culture have much different approach and value to education than more laissex faire guidance given by many anglo americans.

      • willedav said, on December 31, 2020 at 7:26 am

Tech industry has brought many Asian families here, but buying houses and choosing to stay here because of good local school systems a definite plus…despite high cost of living and traffic.
