A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Two Items

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 1, 2021

Ok, no new year’s rezzies, I already do everything about as awesome as I am able to. So we’ll skip those and move on to a couple items from yesterday.

Item #1: There are people who visit and lurk at the blog. There are Flap regulars. There are Flap hall of famers. And then way above all of these people, there is DJ Loo. As many of you know I consider The Grave Duggar to be one of the greatest nicknames of all time. So what does Loo do?

That is what greeted me at the mail box yesterday. Thank you my man. Now we just need to get my dawg some at bats!

Item #2:

This one makes absolutely no sense and that’s why it’s awesome. Growing up I was a Brian Sipe fan. There was no rhyme or reason for this and I wasn’t in his fan club or anything I just liked him. I probably haven’t thought about him though more than a couple of times in the last 40 years. One of those times was Wednesday when the Super70’s guy tweeted out this:

As I usually do I tweeted something back to him:

Now this next part is a little hard to follow but here’s the background: WilcoJoe tweets out shit about Texas football all the time and I like to pretend I know about it so I tweet random stuff back to him. Somewhere along the way a bet bubbled up between me and Diggity about their QB Ehlinger and how many NFL td’s he might throw in his career (he’s headed to the NFL draft next year). This was San Dawg’s tweet:

I had to read that a couple of times before it sunk in. On the same day I was tweeting about random Brian Sipe the great San Dawg was GOLFING with the dude. What are the freaking odds of that???????

There are no more items on today’s agenda. Hapy New Year!

Flav nice going at SA yesterday. Tyler Baze getting W by nose in 9th was great ride, cool race.
Quite a shirt too, and yes, see if your boy gets some ABs this side of Sac.
More than ready for a Happier New Year for all!

Watched some of Blazers game where they beat LA other night. This is lot better team than last season, or than Pistons lol. Beat writer gave Warriors credit for night of solid defense—wrong, Pistons especially in first half out rebounded them by a lot and flat missed wide open shots.
Reminded me of Dellavedova (cool player for St. Mary’s) vs. Curry narrative–he was hounding Steph into missing. Um no even Barkley had that one right, Curry was just off. Then he went off, and that was about if for Cavs and Delly’s career.

Who didn’t love the Kardiak Kids of Cleveland back in the day? Those were fun teams that ended up snakebit by Elway and the Broncos. Yet another reason for me to hate them.

    Awesome shirt, Loo!!

Happy New Years Flappers! Can’t put 2020 in the trash fast enough!
Yeah Loo very thoughtful on a one in a lifetime GraveDuggar jersey made by the Munsters Lily&Marylin 🧛‍♀️🦇⚰️

Happy new year one and all!! Wanted to see the full glass. Not disappointed.

  6. djloo27 said, on January 1, 2021 at 8:40 am

You’re welcome, Flavor – now what are the odds of it ever being worn at AT &T?
I think you’d hear a lot of comments. Would K & K put it on TV if it was spotted?
The Sipe thing has me very confused.
Might need SanDog to weigh in.
    Happy New Year, guys…

Flav Dawg you need to invest in some lottery tickets!!!

  8. willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 8:54 am

Hey Mac—was watching U of Oregon basketball for first time last night vs. Cal. Best player Eugene Omoruyi is grad senior from Rutgers. He was fantastic, hit a 3 scored inside as part of game high 26 defended Cal’s best player Matt Bradley and drew couple charges against him. Remember him? He have any NBA draft notions?
Rutgers looks really good this season too, watched some of that W at RAC night before over Purdue.

    • Winder said, on January 1, 2021 at 8:59 am

Wow, that was a great and thoughtful gift. Happy New Year everyone.

    • Macdog said, on January 1, 2021 at 9:19 am

I don’t remember much of Omoruyi, but yeah, RU’s looking very good, beat Purdue without two starters.

  9. Bozo said, on January 1, 2021 at 9:27 am

Only DJ Loo can outdo DJ Loo, and he done did it. Awesome gift, wear it with pride, Flav.
Happy new year and new day to y’all.

i wish we would get some chic-Fil-A places near me

  11. willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 10:11 am

Funny, another GD thread on day MLBTR had lead story on whether Rays might wish to make salary dump trade on K Kiermaier, $10mil oft injured great defensive OF who hasn’t hit well in few years.
One of the bloggers asked what teams would be interested?
Answered by “Teams with financial flexibility who have good offense and can therefore afford to have a defensive minded CF who won’t hit a ton.”
idk question for me would be if you already have Dubon going in as CF, how many other non hitters could you keep in OF? In that Pavs column I read, Z said he wasn’t putting lot into who hit well in ST. Could be GD’s fate already sealed.

Rispoli vs Prat on the turf in R1. I’m going with Prat

    • Flavor said, on January 1, 2021 at 12:35 pm

and there is another winner for you at 4-1. You’re welcome

      • willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 12:57 pm

Ha that was fantastic race, 3 horses within a head maybe? Whomever it was dissed that horse too hadn’t won in awhile like 8 or something since Prat was on before. Nice going big guy!

      • Flavor said, on January 1, 2021 at 1:11 pm

the 1 horse had the fastest closing kick. That’s about all I look at when it comes to the turf (two turns, not sprints) and for some reason that angle gets overlooked time and time again. And you have to do the math on it you can’t just look at who “looks” like a closer. The british lady handicapping that race didn’t even mention the 1.

  13. Flavor said, on January 1, 2021 at 1:12 pm

also WILLIED did you see the 2 horse jockey come out of the irons right out the gate and nearly fall off? Incredible the jock recovered from that—-jockeys are some of the most athletic people out there

  14. willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 1:30 pm

Devonta smith really is awesome. Hope they kick ND’s ass all over the field.

  15. willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 1:46 pm

Jeez #4 was almost standing up and Harris went right over him down sideline. Easy TD on next play as ND doubles Smith and leaves #19 wide open in end zone. 14-0.

  16. willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 2:13 pm

Abel Cedillo holds off 2 horses in stretch to win 4th aboard Destiny’s Journey another close race.

Great story Craig! I watched an old episode of Newsroom last night. “If I ever say you are not a newsman Don I want you to punch me in the fucking face!”

Love smart tv and Newsroom was terrific!!
Just the punch me in the face connection got me going:)

    • zumiee said, on January 1, 2021 at 4:49 pm

I like Newsroom a lot. And all of the other Aaron Sorkin shows, too. West Wing, SportsNight, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

  18. zumiee said, on January 1, 2021 at 4:53 pm

I vaguely remember Sipe (I think) throwing a huge interception in the endzone at the end of an AFC title game vs. the Raiders. The Raiders went on to win the Super Bowl. The 1980 season, I think.

  19. unca_chuck said, on January 1, 2021 at 5:43 pm

Yeup. And the 2 fumbles on the goal line that put the Broncos in where they got slaughtered. Snakebit like a mofo were those kardiac kids.

Been watching West Wing. Mostly good stuff but it gets too Gilmore Girls (chatty) at times.

  20. unca_chuck said, on January 1, 2021 at 5:45 pm

Would live to see the Buckeyes take Clemson. Fuck Dabo and his whining about how many games Ohio State played. It isn’t like they planned all this shit.

  21. alleykat69 said, on January 1, 2021 at 5:48 pm

Well they’re RB sure preached a nice Sermon on that untouched explosion for 6!!
    Tied at 7-7 ..

  22. alleykat69 said, on January 1, 2021 at 5:54 pm

Lawrence is going to be a hella of a pro.Kid’s got it all, size, weight, cannon arm and speed! That TD run to the corner he was leaving Buckeyes gasping for air, he’s so fast..

    • djloo27 said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:45 pm

      And hair!

  23. willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:04 pm

Fields says I got something too. Mac Jones didn’t look too bad today either. Plenty of options out there for Lynch for G’s backup if that’s how Niners want to roll.

  24. willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:11 pm

End of Santa Anita card, Joel Rosario who had only 1 winner in 18 mounts coming into today, rode 2 in last 3 races on turf. First one was 200K stakes race where he was dead last and passed everyone saving ground on rail and then had clean trip in 9th to win going away.

  25. unca_chuck said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:13 pm

Fields, Lawrence, Jones, and Wilson may all be gone by the time the Niners pick somewhere around 12-14. If they are serious they may need to trade up. But I don’t think they will. They’ll go CB if there isn’t a QB.

  26. sandog said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:18 pm

Sipe is a San Diego guy who I have crossed paths with a couple of times over the years, but I randomly got paired up him and 2 of his friends. I had Buster the dog with me and we were the first group off in the morning. Sipe and his guys had several little side bets going, including one where if you chunked a chip (dug your club into the ground and made bad contact with the ball) you were given a poker chip. Whoever was holding that chip at the end of the round had to buy a round of beers.
The name and logo on the chip??? Gravedigger of course! (Not making this up–one of the guys showed it to me)

    • djloo27 said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:50 pm

      We’re officially in:

      • alleykat69 said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:04 pm

All we need is the third eye 👁 on GraveDuggar’s forehead..

    • Flavor said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:19 pm

      Shut. The. Fuck. Up.

  27. alleykat69 said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:22 pm

I’ll settle for Trey Lance , he has all the tangibles like Lawrence,Wilson size, mobility he will need to develop under Shanny, but since Shanny is a QB guru that should not be a issue. He’s having a good game but I’m not a Justin Fields fan are slow footed Jones are Trask the next line of Sam Darnold ,Mitch Trubisky busts..

  28. alleykat69 said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:37 pm

Fields sure shows toughness, probably playing with broken ribs and still goes back in and throws a TD pass on his first play back, before hobbling back off in his Kirk Gibson moment ..

  29. alleykat69 said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:46 pm

Fields shouldn’t be out there, he’s barely moving around.Maybe he will be better after they shoot em up a cortisone shot at halftime..

  30. unca_chuck said, on January 1, 2021 at 6:56 pm

I like Wilson out of the bunch. Unfortunately he is flying up the draft board. He may be QB 2 picked.

Fields is still slinging it pretty well out there.

    • djloo27 said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:01 pm

The Matty Ice to the Niners radio BS here continues…

    • unca_chuck said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:15 pm

We got Rosen We don’t need Ryan.

  31. unca_chuck said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:15 pm

    That Sipe story is great!

We’ve GOT to get DJ out here for a game. If they ever let people back into the stadium.

  32. unca_chuck said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:16 pm

And yeah, Lance would work. He might be available at 12-15.

    • sandog said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:48 pm

How about taking a flyer on my boy Ehlinger????

      • sandog said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:50 pm

I’m curious if they can get something out of Rosen. He was a damn good college QB. And I think Matty Ice would be a great fit. Then again, are you giving up on Jimmy G too soon?

  33. Flavor said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:18 pm

I’m headed out to NY at some point. It will happen.

  34. sandog said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:42 pm

Clemson DC kinda looks like Rick Barry….

  35. Macdog said, on January 1, 2021 at 7:53 pm

The D in Dabo apparently doesn’t stand for defense.

  36. djloo27 said, on January 1, 2021 at 8:12 pm

    Jets next QB?

  37. zumiee said, on January 1, 2021 at 8:29 pm

The Trailblazers are put together well for the style of play in the NBA these days.

    • willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 8:58 pm

yes Zum you’re right but it’s the boring high screen and roll shoot 3s drive to the hoop style with very little ball movement.
But if you’ve got Lillard and Mac shooting 3s, and given Dame has that Harden-like ability to draw fouls, it’s very effective. Nurkic is better than he looks tonight too.

      • zumiee said, on January 1, 2021 at 9:57 pm

Totally agree; it’s not a style of play that I like.

  38. willedav said, on January 1, 2021 at 9:07 pm

Lillard goes right around Green and Wiseman floats in a layup. time out Warriors. Blazers by 17 3rd Q.

  39. alleykat69 said, on January 1, 2021 at 9:15 pm

Fields of Dreams continue on to take on Alabama!
Good luck Ohio St, love to see you kick the crap out of Nick Saban and Alabama…

  40. zumiee said, on January 1, 2021 at 10:02 pm

Wiseman got injured because he ran right down the middle behind Curry on the fast break instead of filling a lane, which used to be Basketball 101, but who knows anymore.

  41. zumiee said, on January 1, 2021 at 10:06 pm

Haliburton took a hard fall in his last game and got a bone bruise on his hand. He won’t be playing in the Kings game tomorrow, which is too bad. He’s a Kings player I look forward to seeing play.

  42. zumiee said, on January 1, 2021 at 10:11 pm

Haliburton has a high basketball IQ. He’s fun to watch. Nothing flashy, just good solid fundamentals.
