A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Not Cut From Same Cloth

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 2, 2021

Kelly Oubre is 1 for 24 from downtown this year. He’s won nothing, just played on crappy teams his entire career. And this is how he leaves the locker room last night.

I wonder if Draymond murders him at some point this season?

Ha funny pic. Bottom line if Curry isn’t one of 2 best players, and he sure wasn’t last night, GS is screwed. Part of nonsense of how good they might be are all the expectations fueled to fanbase by local writers and TV people who refuse to criticize mgmt and talk up scrubini players, of whom they have a lot that don’t do much.

Green btw was in the game for 5 minutes at start when Blazers blitzed their asses for 17 points and led by 10. He can’t help much vs. high screen or dribble handoffs out beyond 3 point line and obviously whatever instructions he was barking out didn’t take much hold. Portland lit them up whether he was in there or not.
He had few nice assists as de facto point guard but otherwise was not offensive factor. And warriors have all too few of those to be able to hang with better teams.

Trust me…Oubre is much better than this. Without Klay the pieces on the team dont fit. Oubre and Wiggins have a consistently drive to the basket types, which would allow the kickouts to Steph, Klay and even Dray. Curry has been quite out of sync and that throws everything off forcing the pressure on these others but make shots that they are not built for and allows the opposition to target Steph on D.

I think the Barrett kid on the Knicks has missed 21 straight threes.

Of course Oubre is better than 1/24. We are all 1/24:) The thing is his shots are not even close to going in. I watched last night with a friend who is a huge Spurs fan. He said ‘you guys are in NBA purgatory for years now”. Good enough o be average. 7th seed at best. No good picks coming from the middle of the pack, and players making money on the decline. He is not wrong. All great players not named LeBron start to decline. Steph has been bad so far. His shooting has declined for the last 2-3 years. Same with Green.
Welcome to the SF Giants circa 2015 Warrior fans:(

well if Wiseman is a star in waiting then none of this is true.

    • willedav said, on January 2, 2021 at 10:54 am

well plenty of good players come from middle of first round or lower. It is true though that other than Wiseman their draft/development of players has sucked for many years yet the FO and all the coaches get total pass. Jordan Bell? Damion Jones? Jacob Evans? And freaking Nico Mannion isn’t gonna change that either.

    • willedav said, on January 2, 2021 at 10:58 am

Paschall is OK I like him. He can create for himself and hit midrange. Not sure as GH said how good a fit he is with others they start, or how well he can defend and rebound vs. bigger opponents when they go small with him and Green as “bigs” up front.

MLB put out their first power rankings of the year. They slotted us at 20 so that makes them feel there are 10 teams who will perform worse. Two of those teams the Rockies and D-backs are on that list. Who knows what might happen.

    • djloo27 said, on January 2, 2021 at 10:45 am

      Dodgers – Padres are 1 & 2…

      • alleykat69 said, on January 2, 2021 at 11:58 am

Yep..Giants will take 3rd followed by D-backs and the Rockies..

      • Winder said, on January 2, 2021 at 12:24 pm

Yeah, i just hope we can at least play the Dodgers as tough as we usually do. I don’t like SD either but as a consolation it would be nice to help them get over LA. Shallow thinking I know but I can’t help it.

  7. alleykat69 said, on January 2, 2021 at 10:46 am

Wiseman is still the best player in the draft, the Warriors did right drafting this kid who will end up winning ROY..

Flav what had happened to that horse Catemaco that won at SA? I missed the interview with trainer (had sound off or something) when she was describing it had gone through.

  9. djloo27 said, on January 2, 2021 at 1:47 pm

When did “sleeping late” become “sleeping in” and who the fuck decided it?
It doesn’t make the least bit of sense…

    • zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 1:50 pm

I remember it always as sleeping in.

      • djloo27 said, on January 2, 2021 at 1:55 pm

        What???
Homeless people and campers sleep out.
        Everyone else sleeps in.
You get up early, late or somewhere in between.
        Maybe it’s a California thing…

      • zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 1:58 pm

Could be. But west coast dialect usually wins in the long run. I’m not sure why that is, other than Hollywood is out here.

  10. zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 1:53 pm

Do you notice how often broadcasters of all types mess up and say “you can’t understate” instead of “you can’t overstate”?
“You can’t understate his importance to the team,”
    WRONG.

    • zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 1:56 pm

It ranks up there with “couldn’t care less” and “could care less.”
But it looks like the “could care less” users have beaten down the culture into submission.

    • djloo27 said, on January 2, 2021 at 2:12 pm

Pretty sure Costner says it in Field Of Dreams.
Am I the only one who thinks it’s a very overrated movie?
      Forrest Gump, too…

      • zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 2:17 pm

I’ve never watched Field of Dreams all the way through. It didn’t hold my interest.

      • zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 2:26 pm

I had read the novel Forrest Gump. Very funny book, and edgier and more satirical than the movie. The movie was a watered down version.

  13. zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 2:06 pm

I can’t get used to a good player being called a “baller.” “Ball” as a verb used to mean something else.

  14. zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 2:11 pm

I never heard anyone used the word “soda” a generation ago. The older people I knew said “pop.” But the younger people just said specifically what they wanted. A Pepsi, a Coke, or whatever. I use the word soda now. That word won out.

In old Brooklyn, a cheap person was “tighter than Kelsey’s nuts”…

      • zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 2:20 pm

Ha! There’s so many cool sayings like that. A lot of them fade out over time.

  15. zumiee said, on January 2, 2021 at 2:16 pm

I get amused when BF uses the word “rad.” I’ve never used it. It wasn’t my generation.
Hippies used to call money “bread.” That was pretty cool slang. And they used “bad” to mean “good.” That could get confusing. “Bad” was still being used when I was in high school. I was a few years after the hippies.

Loo yes i used to hit Bay Meadows in 70s. Had one very lucky day late 70s going with friends from work where I won few hundred and was able to pay off debt to a friend who’d helped me during another stretch of poverty. Used to be able to take train there from South Bay and walk right in. there was also a tunnel that ran underneath from grandstand to small infield (only 1 window iirc) where you could sit right near rail. The uh tunnel came in handy for “refreshments.”

    • willedav said, on January 2, 2021 at 3:16 pm

Also recall doing well with horse name Willie Steel. Had won money on him before, and gave a roommate $20 bucks who was going to BM to put on him one weekend and he paid off for both of us again.

  23. alleykat69 said, on January 2, 2021 at 4:09 pm

Letting Gase coach all year tells me how stupid the whole Jets organization is.
Should of been fired along with the DC at the same time after blowing the Raiders game.
Gase still could of changed the idiotic all blitz play and have 7 players at the goal line, but didn’t, that’s an idiot coach. And now to win a few meaningless games( and I get players have pride) they blew their chance getting Lawrence and give the Jets fans someone to get excited about again..

  24. alleykat69 said, on January 2, 2021 at 4:20 pm

Not all bad in New York though, the Buffalo Bills will be the new power dynasty for along with the Chiefs.
Great coach in Sean McDermott, a fantastic up and coming QB in Josh Allen, and the move to get WR “Stephon Diggs in a blanket” to go along with a pretty stout defense. The Bills are the real deal

Rosario won stakes race #7 for second day in row.
question about the 3 yr old race with 2 Baffert horses in it. Does he have a plan for jockeys how he wants it to go? C Blacker said she didn’t think the other horse would challenge 1/5 Life is Good for lead but Medina Spirit at 9-1 did go right to front from inside and took lead before Smith’s horse stretched out to 4 length lead. And then Cedillo’s horse #1 came right at him and cut lead to less than a full length at wire to finish strong 2nd.

Btw Loo, I also had a day when I lost $50, most of which belonged to gf I was trying to impress after all my early picks blew up on me. Big Mall right across street, but instead of her going shopping or us having dinner afterward we had KFC instead, lol.

So Oubre can’t throw it in the ocean from the OB Pier. What do you want him to wear Flav—Dockers and a polo shirt? I got no beef with his Catwoman outfit. But, what are those brick things he is holding?? Or is that just a bad ass graphic on the bag he’s holding?

Anyone play the 9 hole in the infield of Bay Meadows? It was worse than Coyote Point. You needed a hard hat to play there.

Take care Pawlie. It sounds like the worst is over for you? Hope all goes well. Lost a friend to it last week.

    • alleykat69 said, on January 2, 2021 at 9:33 pm

Yeah I played Bay Meadows 9 hole course Chuck, it was a terrible deadpan hard goat patch to play! But hey it was also dirt cheap, I think I paid a buck a hole once?
It made my original Goat Hill, 9 holeEmerald Hills Golf Course feel like you were playing an exclusive country club course in comparison! Actually they put a lot of work in that dog patch course over the years and it’s quite playable today to play and cheap to work on your iron game. And if your a member to the Elks Club they have a huge pool with occasional bands that play from a upstairs balcony,a couple of bars, bbq’s in summer, billiards, shuffle board, tennis courts, lots of fun stuff before Covid shut it down, think u can still golf there but not sure 🤔

  32. unca_chuck said, on January 2, 2021 at 7:19 pm

Yeah, the bricks are photoshopped. Oubre’s outfit? Who cares? Maybe he rides a motorcycle.

  33. Flavor said, on January 2, 2021 at 7:53 pm

i don’t give a fucking shit if the bag is photoshopped. Shoot better or stop wearing shit like that OR I will publicly shame you….until you start making your 3s

    • willedav said, on January 2, 2021 at 8:12 pm

I will say this for him–he has been attacking the basket more, which is better move than continuing to lay more bricks. If it’s not a good shot then stop taking it. Used to be the cure for shooter in a slump was get to FT line to get groove back.

  34. Flavor said, on January 2, 2021 at 7:54 pm

Would you put the same dirty diaper on a baby every day?

  35. sandog said, on January 2, 2021 at 9:27 pm

I get it now……he’s shooting BRICKS, thus the photoshopped bricks. I was a little slow on that one.

I think Oubre’s outfit falls under the controversial “body language” category. Flav is big on body language. Me, not so much.

Yes, throw pillows are the worst. I only have two, and I keep those inside a hope chest near the couch. And I only keep those cuz my sis gave em to me.

Glad to hear you seem to be fighting off the Covid symptoms Pawlie! I hope you ae back to full strength soon.

Good advice on masks Loo, I need to toss mine in the washer.
