A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Not much baseball news except a few teams waiting on Tommy Sugar Cane. But I don’t see him making the jump from Japan. Could be wrong tho. And I’d be shocked if we were making him a legit offer. But, what else does Z have to do right now?

Steph getting 62…..wow. And they won, too!

Sounds like lotsa folks jumping off the Chiefs bandwagon. The Bills are the “wise guy” team and the Ravens are on fire and on a mission after last year’s disaster. Chiefs will be coming off basically a 3 week rest when they play in 2 weeks.

  2. willedav said, on January 4, 2021 at 7:15 am

yes let’s hope Curry doesn’t have to do that every night. Green was great too 8 assists 1 turnover stellar D and other bigs Paschall and Wiseman all outplayed counterparts on Blazers. Wiseman has highlight stuff every game. That spin move and dunk after screen from Green was fantastic

“I was coaching to win” said Coach Pederson of Eagles of giving PT to Sudfield. Did NFL or TV intentionally schedule game for 8 PM back East in first week of January? What might have happened if Philly fans had been allowed to attend?
they did gain 3 whole spots in draft, fwiw.

    • alleykat69 said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:35 am

What a disgrace by the Tankeagles Just to move up a few slots in the draft.Played to win my ass.Sudfield has been with this team for 4 freakin years? and has never been on the field!!!,till dumbshit Pederson decides to pull Hurts who’s face said it all on the sidelines in disbelief in a still easily winnable game.Philly fans are merciful they probably would of started a riot inside the stadium with incompetent Pederson running for the tunnel to the clubhouse..It was just a horrible explanation by Pederson trying to convince the media he was playing to win..

    Pool idea:

Total number of points scored in the 6 playoff games next weekend.
I wonder if Vegas sets a line on that.
All they’d have to do is add up the O/U’s of each game…

    • Flavor said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:31 am

love it. Vegas doesn’t do shit like that but they should. We could do this, I can have everyone email me their number (because it would create an obvious unfair angle to be the last one to pick if you knew what everyone else was picking. Everyone could throw in $5 it might keep the weekend interesting. Winner take all. Thoughts?

    Tommy Sugar Cane news…

  5. willedav said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:30 am

Chiefs are still Champs until someone knocks them off. I think any football player would prefer week of rest this time of year. Health of everyone, best players like Helaire especially, of vital importance.
Sure repeating is tough, but they’ve been there done that, Bills no. Mahomes ability to rally a team unquestioned imo.

Green Bay, ay. 2 games last season, one in Nov and one in January, Niners outscored them 74-28. first one was outright thrash when they were all over Rodgers, second one was dominant running game.

Loo I wonder if O/U would be 275-ish for 6 game total? Doubt there is a wild high scoring game like KC and Titans last season

    • Macdog said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:42 am

I added it up off ESPN, the O/U for the six games is 289.5,

      • willedav said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:57 am

thx Mac, just saw that. AFC games 3 of 4 highest totals, outside of Saints-Bears.
        Chargers fire Lynn.

Talk happening on both The Athletic andMLBT that the chances are good that there will be a full 162 game season this year. From the owners’ perspective the revenue stream may be primarily video unless the egregious lockdown retains the clamps. Players seem to want it.

With the other major sports (including full body contact) keeping their standard schedules (more or less) there appears little reason why MLB should not follow suit. My take is that the sooner the owners can agree on a full season, the more rapidly the free-agent logjam will break up and there will actually be some real Hot Stove League happenings.

  7. gianthead said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:49 am

Not that Draymond did much on the stat sheet but the pieces all fit better when he is in there and hopefully both Oubre and Wiggins picked up last night that once they drive to the basket good things happen…

    • alleykat69 said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:43 am

Hey Draymond and Curry combined for 63 last night 😂

  8. alleykat69 said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:58 am

Anytime u get a #1 seed and a week off it’s to your advantage to play one less game and heal the bod
ies some more.Green Bay especially comes out( along with the Chiefs) big knowing every team has to go into their stadium in snow ❄️ conditions, Lambeau fields where Rogers especially this year is unstoppable.
Agree with Willied, the Chiefs are still the team to beat in the AFC, but it will be the Bills that will give them their best challenge,Ravens though playing well with 5 straight wins but it was a soft schedule down the stretch.Chiefs have the Ravens number making them look bad, I don’t see that trend stopping..

    SB …Packers/Chiefs are Bills

Day Late and a Dollar Short, but wanted to wish all you Flappers a healthy, happy, prosperous and peaceful new year.

Glad the slate is set for the NFL. I know Loo is a huge Chiefs fan (as I was growing up as a kid in Oklahoma), but I am pulling heavy for the Bills to win it all.

Green Bay and the Bills, baby.

RE: Tommy Sugarcane (and more specifically the Yomuri Giants), I was digging around the other day and found a Yomuri Giants lid I bought when I was visiting a lady friend in Japan about 20 years ago. Still looks new, and I will be rocking it regularly.

    • unca_chuck said, on January 4, 2021 at 10:04 am

Always dug those hats, Chuck. Very cool.

      • chipower9 said, on January 4, 2021 at 10:06 am

After not seeing the hat for a long time, it was very cool to find it. And it was especially cool, as I bought the hat at the Tokyo Dome. I had that day to myself as my lady friend had to go to the office, so I made a trek to the Dome and also to the Harley Davidson shop. The hat brings back fond memories…

  10. unca_chuck said, on January 4, 2021 at 10:02 am

I’m sure Green Bay is just happy the 49ers aren’t in the playoffs. We have killed their dreams numerous times this last decade. Rodgers is 0-3 vs the Niners in the playoffs.

    • chipower9 said, on January 4, 2021 at 10:11 am

Yep. What a sad train wreck of a year for our Niners. I really had grand dreams of righting the wrong from last year when we laid that egg in the 4th quarter against the Chefs. I still feel that that Niner team fully healthy, against that Chiefs team (also fully healthy) was the better team.

        Ouch…

    • Carstie Clausen said, on January 4, 2021 at 4:40 pm

Another ounce of pounce by the Z&H diving team, Cinci non-tendered the 32 Y.O. backup catcher because he was likely due in arb for something between $1.84 and $2.4M. Surprising stats: In 485 plate appearances he clipped at a .264 B.A, a nice .345 OBP and a spritz .440 SP over the three years he played for the Reds. He hit 18 long flies in the Great American Bandbox and managed to cut down would-be base thieves at a 24% rate.

Believe it or not, SF has spent more on free agency pickups than any other team. That stat will not last when the logjam breaks up. Casali caught both Gausman and DeScafani when they were with the Reds. He represents a very nice upgrade over Tromp, who along with Bart, has plenty of minor league options remaining.

My take is that the Brass is a bit leery about Bart hitting the Show this coming season and needs more seasoning at the AAA level. A second take is that if our Too Tall Texan at first base is about to face Kershaw or another tough LHP, Buster can scoot over to the takeoff pad while the tools of ignorance are donned by a competent catcher and a league-average MLB hitter.

Even after the latest spending spree, the Giants still have plenty of Shekels in the war-chest. Will they top the bidding on Sugano? We should know this week. Though the experts project the could-be Japanese export as mid-rotation, the shit sad sorry state of the Giants starters would likely key him in at #2. Why worry about a bruised ego on the part of Cueto until and unless he proves there’s still some gas in the tank?

      • xoot said, on January 4, 2021 at 5:04 pm

Casali is a solid D catcher who can hit a bit and handle pitchers. I predict Cueto will not throw his hands in the air and scream pendejo! when Casali’s behind the plate.

      • willedav said, on January 4, 2021 at 5:31 pm

I don’t see any reason for Posey to play 1b; Kapler said during previous ST Posey is the full time C and I doubt he has changed his mind about that one iota. The Giants already have Flores as RH option for 1b when they want to sit Belt vs. LHP. As J T Snow put it, playing 9 innings at 1b isn’t a “day off.” When Casali plays, Posey sits and gets a day off.
This is good move that lets the younger guys figure things out at a level they are more suited for, and gives Giants 2 vets behind plate. C is least position on field to worry about, barring injury.

      • xoot said, on January 4, 2021 at 5:48 pm

Casali has played some 1B too.

  13. willedav said, on January 4, 2021 at 5:45 pm

We all know Flores isn’t here for his glove. The guy can hit, and he killed LHP last year to tune of .313/.661/.975. He hit 7 bombs in 62 ABs, plus 3 doubles and hit better at the O than he did on road. He played 14 games at 2b but there’s no way he displaces Solano over there and wouldn’t be an upgrade defensively either. I liked watching him hit and hope he gets in as many games as possible.

    • djloo27 said, on January 4, 2021 at 5:59 pm

  14. Flavor said, on January 4, 2021 at 5:49 pm

Casali is just a guy, guys. The more he plays, the worse he gets. He can fill in as a back up I guess, there aren’t too many back up catchers worth jack.

    • djloo27 said, on January 4, 2021 at 6:05 pm

      Yeah, he’s basically Todd Greene…

    • xoot said, on January 4, 2021 at 6:10 pm

They’re like punters. They’re essential. Hector, Whitey and Stewart did the job fairly well

  15. Flavor said, on January 4, 2021 at 5:51 pm

I’m more worried about Bart. How is this guy going to develop NOT playing baseball? And seriously, he couldn’t hit ever a single home run? That was just weird. Big strong dude like that can’t run into even a single ball in 103 at bats?

  16. djloo27 said, on January 4, 2021 at 5:53 pm

So no Bart at all in 2021?

    • Flavor said, on January 4, 2021 at 6:19 pm

there is still no indication of what the minor league season is going to look like. If you’re MLB isn’t that kind of important? Like, how else are you going to develop your future? And they’re paying some of these guys huge bonus signings, figuring this out and charting a course for 2021 would be a priority if I was in charge

  17. xoot said, on January 4, 2021 at 6:03 pm

He was with the club for one game in which he did not play…

      • unca_chuck said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:22 pm

Well, he deserves one more than Bartman.

  19. xoot said, on January 4, 2021 at 6:50 pm

On the minor league strip down, looks like mlb has analyzed the data and recognized the power of analysis going forward. Why subsidize county fair level exhibitions? College play helps more than ever. And stats now extirpate the weeds accurately. So downsize. Focus on the promising assets. Fuck the rest. Thats what big biz does.

  20. djloo27 said, on January 4, 2021 at 6:57 pm

  21. Bozo said, on January 4, 2021 at 7:19 pm

Speaking of the minor leagues, are they still going to have the Arizona Rookie league? Not the Fall league, but the Rookie league. We signed a kid, Carter Williams, out of North Carolina Central last June and I wanted to follow him. He wasn’t drafted, signed as a FA and was assigned to the AZL which didn’t happen, So I was wondering if Carter and kids like him have fallen through the cracks after the MLB/MILB wars? Anyone remember reading about that league?

    • Winder said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:16 pm

I read an article in the Athletic a few weeks back that the AZ rookie league sounded like a for sure go. From what I read it’s gonna be a pretty large and active league.

I remember seeing an article about that kid Bozo. Good size 6’3 210 lbs plays the outfield and has some power hitting left handed and hits for average.Only 22? I believe? Wonder if he goes by Hurricane Carter?

    • Bozo said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:08 pm

Hah, well we do get a few hurricanes along the Coast here in NC not sure about up in Durham. I just think the kid might be worth watching but I just don’t know if he, or the AZL, have fallen through the cracks. Have you heard anything, Kat?

      • alleykat69 said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:42 pm

No I haven’t Bozo, but it sure isn’t good if the minor leagues go away.Hell even AAA players are sitting around with they’re thumbs of their asses. How can any of these young players get proper coaching now?

Ah, it’s just one of those games for the Kings. Started off badly and it just snowballed. They are better than they’re showing tonight. But Curry is playing at an MVP level, so it’s just impossible for the Kings.
Hield is terrible, though. I fully agree. There’s no way he should start and get all the minutes he does.
Bagley is just lost in 5-out ball. He was born in the wrong era.

  30. zumiee said, on January 4, 2021 at 8:58 pm

5-out ball just sucks. Curry’s the only guy in the NBA that makes 5-out watchable.

  31. zumiee said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:00 pm

Holmes is a really good player. He just had a really bad game tonight. Got in early foul trouble.

    • willedav said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:15 pm

yeah I like him. Whiteside looks like he has no lift at all. Kings were driving to hoop but no one could finish beside Fox, they missed lot of outside shots (and FTs) and they couldn’t stop anyone. Offense looked really disjointed with bad spacing, even with Fox in there. Warriors aren’t team you can turn ball over against; usually that’s what kills them.

  32. zumiee said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:03 pm

It’s weird how much the Kings miss Haliburton. Something is missing since he’s been out.

  33. zumiee said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:06 pm

The tweet from Murphy is kind of a cheap shot. The Warriors have two Hall of Fame players who are still playing great. No one is claiming the Kings can match the Warriors for talent this season.

    • willedav said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:17 pm

he’s an idiot who conveniently forgot 2019-20, how the Warriors got pick they did by losing so often. I remember watching games Kings beat them in past and Hield went off.

  34. unca_chuck said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:18 pm

Can’t say I;ve seen the Warriors this hot from 3-town from so many guys. The scrubbinis hit a ton in the 4th quarter.

  35. zumiee said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:24 pm

The Warriors shot the ball like a championship contender tonight.

  36. willedav said, on January 4, 2021 at 9:26 pm

Over last 4 seasons Warriors are 9-8 vs. Kings. 0-3 last year, 4-0 previous year by a total of 12 points, 2-2 year before that and 3-1 year they won 67. Golden St isn’t same team that won 70+ games either.

  37. unca_chuck said, on January 4, 2021 at 10:03 pm

No, but they aren’t a 15 win team either. They should be a solid 4th seed. The d looks like it is coming around, and they actually look good when they attack the rim.

Kerr needs to remind them to go to the basket when the 3s aren’t dropping.

Cousins played a total of 3 minutes and got t’ed up twice fucking with Willie Cauley-Stein.

    • unca_chuck said, on January 4, 2021 at 10:04 pm

I will say, we’ll see how this goes when they face the Clips/Lakers, but they are good enough to beat the middling teams.
