TSC back to Japan
Well, scratch Tommy Sugar Cane off the list. He has reviewed any and all mlb offers for his services and at the end of the day he decided to head back to Japan and cut his cane there.
I am still getting entries trickling into the NFLBBB contest. The deadline is kickoff on Sat but I would appreciate them sooner.
Off the top of my head, we have me, Rebecca, Chi, Xoot, Mac, Mudman, GH and SanDawg locked in. DJ Loo still hasn’t sent me anything. He may be protesting the low entry fee of $10 I don’t know. I’m hoping for a PaSalon entry–consult with Ervin if you need help with NFL. RACHEL texted me that she’s gonna play but so far no entry from her. Unca claims he’s in and is scooping up 1000 pennies as his entry should he lose (ps–the nickle styro payment was hilarious, I hope you still have that on your mantle somewhere. WILLIED I know your rules on gambling so….PLAY FOR FUN!
Anyone else, enter if you like!

Ah Flav, y’all are funny. I”m watching too much basketball; I even dreamed I was back coaching again last night.
I did watch Stanford Cards smoke awful UW, and freshman standout Ziaire Williams had second triple double in Cards history, 12-12-10 assists. They are down 2 starters that avg 22 points btw them, haven’t played home game entire year (in Santa Cruz gym now) and are now 7-3 3-1 in league.
Haase and his boys are good story and per usual the women #1 in country, are even better. I watch them all the time–TVD runs a lot of high post offense, which I love, sometimes without even a big at post.
Don’t think i could hit even a HS 3, but FTs are different story.
Naw, I’m not in. I’m not gonna risk $10.
oh then that was someone else, I’ll have to email them back and find out who
a petty thief afoot. I’ve emailed you before. I would’ve used that email address if I’d wanted in.
Nope. Didn’t save the block of change, At the time we were so poor I needed that change!
speaking of change, I still go to laundro every week, and lady who runs it told me banks were itchy about giving out coins, like rolls of quarters, to her for business.
Lady is from state of Morelos Mexico and has wonderful pictures of farm she grew up on inside the place. Her brother is a chef and they now own 2 taquerias, including one fortunately for me right next door to the laundro. Inside there are couple great photos of Morelos native Emiliano Zapata, including the famous one where he and Pancho Villa are sitting on throne of Mexico.
My son gets rolls of quarters from the grocery store where many of the workers have known him since he was a pre-school child. They don’t exchange them with many other shoppers, though.
I spent quite a bit of time in Morelos, mainly Cuernavaca. Also, Tepotzlan, which is an amazing place. Of all the photos of Zapata and his revolutionary troops, this one’s always been my favorite It shows some Zapatista officers enjoying a meal at Sanborn’s, a bourgeois spot in Mexico City:

thanks man those are great. Btw i was fortunate enough to be gifted by patrona some of her homemade pozole (with fixings yum) after Christmas. Her oldest daughter and I try to convince her to make it an occasional special at restaurant.
Wow. I haven’t had pozole in almost a year now.
I would play but at the moment I have totally lost interest in football. I don’t do paypal anyway. World events have consumed me recently. Can’t wait for baseball though.
Second that.
Lasorda, gone.
May he rest in peace. He was always one of my favorite people to hate. He made it easy. He will be missed.
We loved to hate him, but it’s all fun and games, and the game right now is a lot less fun without characters like Lasorda in the dugout instead of push-button automatons like Kevin Cash. RIP.
Well said Mac. Good for him that he got to see a title before he went.
I don’t do paypal or zelle either, so that’s my pool problem.
Got a few other minor disasters going on, like we all do…
we’ll work it out. San Dawg sent me $10 cash through the mail last month. Old School. Hope everything works out ok, if you can’t submit anything for the contest that’s understandable.
Ward Cleaver has nothing on you, my man!
I couldn’t disagree more with your second sentence, haha.
Agree, Mac. He and Durocher were cut from the same cloth. I do miss having guys like that at the helm. Great memories from days bygone.
Ahh that’s too bad. Lasorda played the part–walking in from clubhouse door down 1b line all the way to Dogs dugout on 3b side, the minute he hit the field to a chorus of boos. He knew it was coming and welcomed it, waving his arms and acting it up as he calmly strode all the way across field.
He was also a minor league pitcher, and iirc got in a near brawl with Billy Martin who was managing opposing team and was upset at him throwing at his guys. They were supposed to meet after the game to settle it and instead became drinking buddies if I remember the story right.
That was great theater, on his walk he would blow kisses to the crown. One of a kind.
crowd
Yes, RIP to Tommy Lasagna. I loved the Giant-Dodger games at The Stick, and as other Flappers have mentioned when Lasorda would make his way to the dugout, and all of his SF admirers showering him with love (sic). And Tommy returning the love with smiles, waves, and blown kisses. Great memories.
Here is a great Lasorda clip. We’re never going to hear a manager press conference like this again. Classic.
That was fucking great.
Oh man, that’s hilarious.
Not sure who was better at cussing-up a storm, Lasagna or Durocher. Both were classics and from a bygone era of America’s game. RIP, Tommy.
I haven’t been able to pay enough attention to the NFL this year to make any decent picks for the NFLBBB contest. Good luck to all the Flappers playing. For the playoffs, I’ll be switching colors from red and gold to black and gold. Geaux Saints.
Yeah Tommy Lasorda was good for the game with all the abuse he took especially with Giants fans but he generally rolled within the punches. His run in with Bevacqua after he accused him of having his pitchers throw at the teams hitters while calling Tommy a fatso italiano was classic: Why the fuck would I have my pitchers throw at .130 hitters? F—-king Bevacqua couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat!
Are his run in with the Philly Mascot who was prancing around holding a fatso Lasorda mannequin that had a furious Tommy chasing him around and grabbing the mannequin and beating him over the head with it..
RIP Tommy u were one of a kind!
The twi-night double-header Giants Dodgers riot game, when Mike Marshall got punched in the face trying to get into the stands, Lasorda came out of the dugout to see what was going on. Someone near me fired an orange at him at about 90 MPH that whizzed right past his left ear. He ran straight back into the dugout and hid.
I was at that game with my old gf, a Cards fan, who was extolling the greatness of the Cubs/Cards rivalry. Which got us to this game in the 1st place. We had snuck down to the 3rd base side near the Dogs dugout and game 2 was nuts. Game 1 the Dodgers killed the Giants 7-1 or some shit., In the 2nd game, the Giants had come back from a 6-2 deficit in the 8th and tied it in the 9th, only to fall behind in the 10th. The riot started when Pedro Guerrero flipped off the GIants dugout on his way to 1st base. By the time he got to 3rd, the sheer amount of shit being hurled at 3rd base was amazing. People then started pounding on the dugout screaming at the Dodgers. Marshall was walking back to the dugout when he got the bright idea of coming after a fan in the stands. I asked Julie, you see shit like this in St Louis?
This was 1988 I think. Good times.
great story. What happened to the chick?
She’s still in Berkeley last I heard. She was a professional student long after I left her.
Back when people watched the game, not their phones and an average slob could afford a decent seat…
i had sex in a candlestick bleacher bathroom. True story. Night game, very cold, nobody there. Me and Kathy. She killed herself a couple of years ago. Wonder if it was because she stopped having exciting nights like that with good ol’ Big Flavor. 😦
Hated her in west wing
She was the world’s oldest looking 18 y.o. in Grease…
that ho was no 18 year old. And, weirdly, she looked a little bit like the bedraggled Kathy
Flav, another gal apprentice Emily Ellingwood riding in 6th at SA, on #7 horse. Won first race over at LosAl Dec 20 riding for trainer R Hanson and he has her on mount in this one.
Sounds more like a poet than a jockey…
wild pre race stuff. #9 ran about sixteenth beforehand and #4 broke through gate. #3 acting up apparently caused this, and this horse along with #1 were both scratched while other 2 both raced after everyone was repositioned at gate.
Looks like Abel Cedillo who was to ride favorite Murad Khan in 7th but was on horse #3 that caused problems in 6th, will be replaced by Ruben Fuentes. Hope he wasn’t hurt.
I was on campus at my high school earlier today and noticed the gym light was on when I was down in that area. Nobody in sight, so I went into the locker room and grabbed a somewhat flat ball and went out to launch 17 3’s. Haven’t touched a ball in months. No warm-ups, just went to the top of key and started launching (high school distance) 3’s.

ok that’s an awesome bar. Dude I promise you next time I’m in SD we’re doing this. And videotaping it.
A friendly rim and a “shooter’s ball” can make a big difference.
Bill Bradley used to take a pin on the road to deflate the ball if he thought it was necessary…
whoa nice! Man no idea how long it would take me to get legs underneath even for a FT.
I’m in. We should all meet in Santa Barbara.
Flat ball don’t bounce.
Didn’t Jimmy Chitwood use a flat ball on a crappy backboard rim while Coach Dale was trying to recruit him back to the team in Hoosiers?
pfftttt Jimmy didn’t give a shit where he was or who was looking or what the stakes were. “I’ll make it…” That’s all you needed to know. The most confident underrated motherfucker in sports history.
I love this kid.
Gonna go to his games if that’s ever possible again…
amazing stuff. How do you even practice that? Loved that bank shot off the brick wall.
I don’t care if these shots took 5,000 tries.
They are still beyond sick!
Holy shit. That is sick.
Fuck Jimmy Chitwood. Joie Chitwood was the bomb.
Sent my picks to ya Flav…
Blame Doc Rivers all you want for Clippers collapse in bubble, by Ty Lue still can’t coach his way out of a Warrior comeback. Even when he had LBJ and Kyrie and was going vs. Thompson durant Iguodala in playoffs, now vs. Curry and his new breed Wiggins Paschall and Wanamaker, lol. Song remains the same.
Joel Rosario loses his mount not far out of gate in Las Cienegas on #6, taking bridle right with him .
