A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Net Loss + New NFLBBB Contest

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 14, 2021

I honestly don’t get the Nets trading all that for Harden. They gave up two controllable exciting good young players PLUS like what? 4 first rounders? In exchange they get a fatso who whined his way out of town and who seems to only be able to be at his best when he’s playing me-first iso ball. And now the Nets have nearly their entire salary cap soaked up by 3 players. Makes absolutely zero sense to me………

Ok, the contest. Week 2 of the NFLBBB. Against my instincts we can complicate it with more ways to earn points. I think this is going to lose some of the fringe players we had in NFLBBB Week 1. But that’s cool. Let’s bump the payout up to $20 entry fee and do it this way:

  1. Pick the total number of points scored. Whoever is closest gets 3 points (a tie between multiple Flappers, if there was one, is still 3 points each) You get an extra point if you nail the number cold. After that you pick the winner of each of the 4 games USING THE POINT SPREAD THAT I AM LISTING HERE TODAY. You get 4 points for each game you get right. Total points possible if you guess the total number cold AND you hit all 4 games: 20. This will allow for the chance to still win even if you lose on the total # of points scored. If you tie on the spread that game is taken off the board (KC and NO could result in a tie).

Green Bay -6.5 (total 45)

Buffalo -2.5 (total 50)

KC -10 (total 57)

New Orleans -3 (total 52)

Thoughts? We might get 6-7 people if we play this format.

Ah a happy birthday to Mr. Bozo. Enjoy some bright moments, as the great Rahsaan Roland Kirk would put it.

      After the bright moments…

Would tweaking the K.C. & N.O. spreads by a half point to make it easier on you?

    • Flavor said, on January 14, 2021 at 8:49 am

i thought about that but 3/10 are critical numbers to a point spread. Moving the line by 1/2 point changes it drasically.
Just give me a total # of points scored and then your 4 picks considering the point spread. I’ll figure it out from there

  5. unca_chuck said, on January 14, 2021 at 8:23 am

    Really? Just another contract jacking.

    • willedav said, on January 14, 2021 at 8:34 am

According to GM Harris they are looking for a LH SP. Names mentioned such as Lester, Quintana, Paxton, J A Happ, the guy they non tendered Tyler Anderson and Hamels. Otherwise only LHP option is Conor Menez. We’ll see but not an impressive list other than the most expensive one, Paxton, whom I doubt winds up here.

Zzzzzzz might as well tryout Shawn Estes again while they’re at it..

Still think he deserves another look…

    I’m in

    HBD, Bozo!

  8. Flavor said, on January 14, 2021 at 9:10 am

so just send me the total for all 4 games and then only the 4 teams you are picking to win considering the point spread. Nothing else. I’ve already sent GH back to the drawing board

    • gianthead said, on January 14, 2021 at 12:46 pm

So much for me trying to impress the Flav with exact scores!!!

  9. chipower9 said, on January 14, 2021 at 10:11 am

    I am in, Flav.

Only thing I do not like is the even points, but will live with it. I would have made Chefs-Browns 10.5 and Aints-Bucs 3.5. Ties are for sissies, IMO.

Will shoot you my total points for all games, plus the four winners (per your listed spread) soon.

I’m in too. I like it.

  11. chipower9 said, on January 14, 2021 at 10:22 am

Just sent you my point total predication and winners. Thanks for coordinating, Craig.

pfftttttt…..vaccine update. I got it yesterday and this is different than other vaccines. I can barely move my arm and I feel like i got 2 hours of sleep (got 8). I mean big deal right? Just symptoms that will go away. Just telling you what you have to look forward to.

“What the…? A surprise party ! I’ll kill ya. Whose idea was this ? All right, everybody’s coming to my place. This is ridiculous.”

Thanks for the birthday wishes youse guys.

I’ll probably join in on this version of NFLBBB, just gotta figure out the rules. Remember now, I’m an old fuck with an addled mind, but I’m thinking it is total score for all the games and pick the game winners based on the spread, is that right?

    • Flavor said, on January 14, 2021 at 11:41 am

correct! So just email me a 3 digit number and then 4 team name keeping in mind the point spreads listed in the main thread. If you lose you’ll paypal $20 to someone. But if you WIN Bozo, IF YOU WIN!!!!! ….to the victor go the spoils.

    • unca_chuck said, on January 14, 2021 at 2:20 pm

      3 digit? I’m going with 1,074 pts.

  14. chipower9 said, on January 14, 2021 at 11:51 am

Happy Birthday to the world’s most badass clown….Bozo. Hope your day is awesome, brother.

  15. unca_chuck said, on January 14, 2021 at 11:58 am

Is being a badass clown a good thing? Nightmares are made of these . . .

    • chipower9 said, on January 14, 2021 at 12:00 pm

Well, IMO it is a good thing…especially when talking about The Flap’s clown.

The only way the Harden trade makes sense is if Steve Nash wants nonpartisan of Kyrie Irving and do they try and move him??? Great trade for Houston itself….

    • unca_chuck said, on January 14, 2021 at 2:19 pm

They need a big man in the middle. A trade may be in the works.

  17. unca_chuck said, on January 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm

    Sent ya my numbers

  18. Flavor said, on January 14, 2021 at 2:51 pm

Bozo what happened to your bathroom after those hunert oysters you scarfed down? Total destruction or can you rebuild it?

    • Bozo said, on January 14, 2021 at 3:31 pm

We only ate 40 of dem, so all we did was strip the bathroom paint.

Gave away another 40 but plan on grilling up the last 20 tomorrow and again doing dem up Drago style.

      • Flavor said, on January 14, 2021 at 6:08 pm

40! WOW. Those look good. Oysters have never been on my radar. That cook wasted a lot of the dressing for them, aye?

  19. Flavor said, on January 14, 2021 at 6:06 pm

Alex Wood, jesus christ. Z is the dumpster diver of all divers.

    • djloo27 said, on January 14, 2021 at 6:14 pm

      He just turned 30.
      That’s about all I can add…

  20. sandog said, on January 14, 2021 at 7:09 pm

Its the final year before we start spending and adding in some young guys. I’m good with signing Wood and taking a flyer on Hamels while we’re at it. Go ahead Z..see if you can cobble together a competitive team on the cheap.
Now if this is still all he does going into ’22? Then I’m gonna be pissed.

  21. willedav said, on January 14, 2021 at 7:19 pm

    Bol Bol starting for Denver.

  22. mrsprtdude said, on January 14, 2021 at 7:21 pm

    Got the vacinne #1,
My sis and my daughter lready have both being RNs in hospitals. Both had a sore arm shot, headache and fatigue (plus chills for the kid) shot 2. both were totally normal within 24 hours after 2nd shot. FYI.

I’m on board with wood. Injured, but before 2019 5 straight years with era under $3 Mil nothing. Maybe a good long reliever!

  23. mrsprtdude said, on January 14, 2021 at 7:32 pm

    Salah to the jets

    • willedav said, on January 14, 2021 at 7:48 pm

Good luck he’s gonna need some time. LB coach might take over for Niners or maybe Raheem Harris who Shanny knows from ATL days.

  24. alleykat69 said, on January 14, 2021 at 8:43 pm

Good for Saleh getting his chance, he will need to be patience with that squad which has a lot of issues, but his enthusiasm is contagious and will help this team. I can see Saleh bringing on board Mike Lafleur ( 49ers passing coordinator coach) to take over the OC position, they have a strong bond as Lafleur was his best man in Saleh’s wedding.Lafleur is also the brother of Packers coach Matt Lafleur, só good overall pedigree there as well..
1st big decision will be if Saleh sticks with Darnold?are drafts Fields? are maybe just draft Davonte Smith at WR and stay with Darnold..

    • unca_chuck said, on January 14, 2021 at 11:20 pm

It’s the fucked up Jets front office that needs to be patient. I guarantee you they draft a QB

  25. Carstie Clausen said, on January 14, 2021 at 9:17 pm

Didn’t exactly sprout a woody over the Wood pickup. First thought was “is this IT?” $3 mil guarantee and an extra three in performance bonuses. He’s another one of those was pretty good up to a couple years ago guys, with back problems for Cincy in 19 and shoulder and whatnot for the LaBumbos last season. Highlight was a clean 6 innings in the Series vs Tampa. So now we have a plausible #2 in Gausman, a logjam for #4 with Cueto, DiScalfani and Wood and since he’s the new kid on the block, Webb as our #5.

Riffing off Wendy’s classic “where’s the meat”? my question is where’s the ace? Who could be a viable #3? There will be a lot of sorting out to do beginning in less than 5 weeks. Commitments still at less than $150M, while just 2-3 years ago the salaries totaled around $200. So, will the vultures slumber along after picking up a right-handed bat? Still plenty of room to add a quality closer.

Are the miserly owners gonna cough up even a few serious shekels, or are we gonna be faced with a team that is little more than not exactly embarrassing against two of the premiere teams in baseball right in our own division. We should have a better idea by Valentine’s Day. Will there be any Heart in San Francisco?
