Aren’t the Cubs ditching salary and living life on the cheap? LOL, how in the hell did we lose out on Joc Pederson to the goddamn Cubs? You KNOW he wanted to play here, he grew up the biggest Giants fan. As usual, a free agent hitter has used SF for leverage and gotten a deal somewhere else. Either that, or it’s just nonsense when we hear about rumors of our front office talking with free agent hitters. They never EVER come here.
Pederson got 1 year, 7 million.

Seriously, even if you are just kicking the tires on someone, if you know he’d fit into your LU and you KNOW he wants to be a part of the team he grew up rooting for, how do you not at least offer THAT?

Pathetic. Giants could have found 7 mil in the seat cushions of the couch. And I know some of you have an obsession with GD, but seriously, Joc would have been a SIGNIFICANT upgrade. I personally could care less if I ever see another GD AB in a Giant uni.

agreed. and no I really don’t see much silver lining in more chance GD plays, as opposed to Pederson. Fans aren’t gonna be in yard for some time so archways should be closed–helped park play lot smaller, especially for LHs.
I wonder if our ballpark had something to do with it? All Joc cares about is hitting bombs and he probably isn’t impressed that we brought in our fences 3 feet and MIGHT plexiglass our archways.

Could have been PT too. Kapler’s likely gonna play platooney ball a lot, maybe Pederson wanted better guarantee he’d play more often than he did under Roberts.
To Flav’s point, I think if Giants were really in on him they could have easily signed him month ago, and money he got from Cubs is about what LaStella is gonna make each of next 3 seasons.
I think you hit the nail on the head. It looks like the only way we get proven hitters is to overpay. I guess it’s all about career advancement.

Well, the Pederson bubble popped pretty quickly. GD=fantasy-zone. Foghornies are high on Bradley today. Okay by me. So get it done already. Overpay for one year. Overpay team option for two. Business done.
Not surprised on Joc. Joc is an upgrade but essentially a reptition of Dickerson on that roster. Does not make a lot of sense to have two of the same. LaStella ton of value in that contract (Pads spent more on Profar lol) and love the roster position flexibility. We could easily pursue Joc next year when there is a lot more clarity to the DH situation and all the money coming off the books and see if Dickerson can play a full season. Next off-season is when they really chase big fish.
Would still love to get Correa next year especially with all of his animosity toward the Flodgers…
Agree, although the 2020 Dickerson or Yaz for a full season > Pederson. He’s an upgrade in the sense that he’s younger and has a track record, which is worth something …
Except Joc does not have the problem of staying healthy and on the field that Dick does…
Probably a combo of playing time from Pederson’s perspective and Zaidi’s prioritization of defense in CF. Z probably thinks Shinjo was a good signing. Pederson would have been a really nice part of the rotation and a good hedge against Dickerson/Yaz getting hurt again.

Watching season 3 of Treme and snippets of local music just fantastic. At one point DJ Davis is playing out chorus of Benny Spellman hit from 1962 “Lipstick Traces” with Alan Toussaint on piano. Found the original, 45 recording, beautiful track, on youtube.
On sidebar is version of same tune done live by Snooks Eaglin, with bassist George Porter Jr. and drummer Ken Blevins at Lone Star club. Wow tremendous…no one played guitar like this guy.
Snooks was probably my all time favorite performer. No matter who was playing in NOLA, if Snooks was playing somewhere, dats where I was.
