A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Getting EXCITED

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on February 3, 2021

Kelly Oubre sucks. Can that be said in a safe, open space? Warriors win that game last night if it wasn’t for his ineptitude.

I’m really getting stoked for this Super Bowl. Man, last SB I was at a kickass party in Reno. We were in this huge auditorium packed with crazed Niner fans. I remember thinking at the time, “hmmmm, there is this new virus people are talking about and this looks like the prime place for getting something like that…” Nobody had a mask on, we weren’t wearing them then. Now I wear two. And I’m vaccinated, lol. And I’m watching the game alone in my house.

Anyway, let’s freaking go, I have suckeled the sweet nectarine from Tom Brady’s teet, a magical moment indeed. I am on board with Tampa Bay covering maybe even winning……

I was with my buds Jerry and Ted in Thailand late December and January. I found out later that Ted – who left in late February – barely got out of Thailand due to the virus panic in February there (Bangkok airport was packed with foreigners trying to get out with a limited number of planes available).

Fast forward to February 16th, I am with my friends Erin, Jeremy, and his wife Kiera, pregnant with their boy, Tommy (my future godson) – were all having a wonderful time on the Big Island of Hawaii, vacationing, while looking for a house for me to buy. We left on March 3rd . . . My world completely changed the next day, as I decided to spend a week in Sunnyvale with my parents and then go back to Denver on the 10th.

Specifically, former passengers of the cruise ship Grand Princess who had tested positive for COVID-19 were being linked to cruises they had taken on the ship while it traveled between California, Mexico, (my mom and step dad were on this leg of the cruise, but thankfully, did not get infected) and Hawaii. After the first confirmed death on 4 March 2020, Grand Princess was rerouted to the San Francisco Bay Area, where it was anchored offshore while test kits were airlifted to the ship. Preliminary testing found 21 positive cases, and the ship later docked in Oakland on 9 March 2020, with over 3,000 people entering quarantine.

Masks? No one wore them back then. Social distancing. No. No one had any idea what the next 12 months would look like.

That was cutting it close. How much the world has changed in less than a full year.

These Chiefs need to treat Brady the way they treated Joe Kapp in 1970…

    • willedav said, on February 3, 2021 at 7:46 am

local guy, I’d waited on Joe Kapp in store. Chiefs SB winning team had tremendous defensive front 7. Willie Lanier one of best LB I ever saw, and Bell might have been one of best all time athletes in college or pro.
Classic unis and helmets, both teams

Spags has done it once before.

    • gianthead said, on February 3, 2021 at 12:12 pm

Im rooting for your Chiefs Loo but not betting it. I am actually rooting more against Brady than for the Chiefs…

Team L last night for Warriors–lose close game it’s less what happened at end than stuff that came before it. After first Q warriors trailed most of rest of night.
Great as he was Curry missed chance at end with contested 3. Wiggins 1-8 from 3, Green 0-3 7 assists 5 turnovers/ 5 fouls 1-7 from floor in 36 minutes. Toscano and Bazemore were fine but others off bench like Lee and Paschall did zip. Small ball (too bad Looney got hurt) got outboarded something fierce again 51-36, and Celts lived at rim on offense without shot blocker to worry about.

I’d be surprised Bucs hold down Chiefs offense, which is just more explosive. I can see going with under (surprised most playoff games lack of scoring), but would take KC and points…27-20

If you have a paypal account and you want to take KC -3.5 I’m booking as many $10 bets as I can process….

    Tampa Bay weather report.

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2021 at 8:46 am

Isn’t that what took down that Delta Flight in Dallas back in ’85?

  6. Bozo said, on February 3, 2021 at 8:11 am

It sure seems like the last SB was about a million years ago.

  7. willedav said, on February 3, 2021 at 8:40 am

re “watching game alone in my house.” NYT lead story on briefing I get talked about 30% of fans in surveys saying they were gonna do exact opposite, and warning this could be another super spreader akin to Holiday gatherings. Be safe and sane y’all.

  8. unca_chuck said, on February 3, 2021 at 9:08 am

Yeah, hard to believe the 49ers were in it just a year ago. Massive injuries, and the fucking Rona have made this the longest year ever for us 49er fans.

As far as the Chiefs go, hey they got theirs. They can wait another 50 years for #2. No love for Brady, just want to see someone stop the Chiefs.

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2021 at 10:05 am

      I don’t have another 50 years, Chuck.
I may not have another 50 days.
Why can’t I accumulate a few like you have?
What do you have against the Chiefs who took every POS QB off your hands?
Even Montana was a shell by the time we got him…

      • alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2021 at 10:47 am

        I’m with ya Loo..
Damm I thought it was never going to happen in my lifetime for the the Giants to win it all with so many agonizing close calls, then bang 3 in 5 I could never dream of that.
Even though Brady is the local boy out here, worshipped the 49ers growing up, miffed that they muffed on taking him I’m just totally burned out over him but have to admire that how the Fuck can a QB are any player play in 10 SB’s??
But fear not Loo you will get your second straight SB win as the Andy Reid has never lost with 2 weeks to prepare in the battle of the dinosaur coaches matchup.

Oh I watching the Chiefs win in 1970 the other day and what a hoot watching and listening to Hank Scramm (sp) in his KC Blazer and sometimes his famous rolled up paper on the sidelines.I didn’t know he was so animated he cracked me up! He would say stuff like:Oh man there’s 6 of you guys ( Refs) out there and you still can’t get it right. Are that spot was terrible anybody in KC knows that’s a first down. Are later after finally getting a charitable spot and a crucial 1st down he would yell out :Well boys what a great job these referees are doing today, hell of a job! Hank was a special breed of coaching that’s for sure..

      • willedav said, on February 3, 2021 at 11:03 am

Chiefs to me have been most fun team to watch over last couple years. Their offense might be even better with running back Helaire and more experienced Mahomes. Nothing against Brady he’s been incredibly successful but best days behind him and new sheriff runs him out of Dodge.

  9. unca_chuck said, on February 3, 2021 at 9:10 am

This is what is so goddamn stupid about this fucking virus. It tracks to holidays like flies to shit.

If people would just chill for 3 straight months the thing would be under control.

  10. alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2021 at 10:07 am

Hell this SB will bring out another spike in the virus! People can never stop having bigtime parties for this event!
I just want a close football game where the Goat 🐐 and little goat 🐐 are both on their games, marching they’re teams down the field like the conniving field generals they are!

  11. chipower9 said, on February 3, 2021 at 11:08 am

I was home for the last Super Bowl. I haven’t been a fan of huge SB parties for a while. Would rather just be with a small crowd, at home, easy access to the bathroom and the food and drinks I want.

And as others have said, that last SB seems an eternity ago. I still feel the Niners were the better team and should have won. And while I was a Chiefs fan while growing-up in Oklahoma as a kid, I don’t want to see the Chiefs and Mahomes go back-to-back (still that bad taste in my mouth from last year).

If I put some coin on this, it would be Tampa +3.5.

  12. gianthead said, on February 3, 2021 at 12:11 pm

Very frustrating consistently watching Oubre fail to make the right play…and Curry too often when down by more than a basket late takes ill-advised shots. When they were down just 5 late and Draymond drives down the lane and kicks it to the corner for Wiggins for an attempted three is so frustrating to watch. Just make the fucking basket Dray..

Happy 88th b-day to John Handy, sax player who spent lot of time in Bay Area and was educator at SF St. Also survived few years with bandleader Charles Mingus, and had commercial hit with Hard Work.

    • xoot said, on February 3, 2021 at 2:55 pm

Goodbye Porkpie Hat is a masterpiece. I have to admit that Mingus’s later version, with Booker Ervin on sax, is just as good, though. Anybody who titles his autobiography Beneath the Underdog is gonna be tough to work for.

      • willedav said, on February 3, 2021 at 3:56 pm

beautiful tune, yes. Mingus had wide rep for being difficult with just about everyone in biz including musicians in his band.

Trivia… Who was the last wildcard team to play in the S/B?

    • Macdog said, on February 3, 2021 at 3:43 pm

Is it a true wild card team that didn’t win the division — Packers in 2010 — or a division winner that played in the wild card round — Ravens in 2012?

  15. sandog said, on February 3, 2021 at 2:21 pm

@ Flav–I will take 3 of those $10 SB bets if you are up for that.

I need to get my money back from you and this is like taking candy from a baby!

  16. Carstie Clausen said, on February 3, 2021 at 3:40 pm

Minor league signing: RHP James Sherfy, who was up and down for the Snakes over the past several. His FB is said to top out at around 93, but he must miss a lot of bats as his ERA during that yo-yo career was sub 3.00.

    • djloo27 said, on February 3, 2021 at 3:54 pm

      These days 93 is a change up…

  17. willedav said, on February 3, 2021 at 3:59 pm

Fran Tarkenton is 81 today. Loved him as Viking, even if he couldn’t win big one. First real scrambler QB I saw as pro.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on February 3, 2021 at 9:20 pm

Saw him in action while as an usher in the old Met stadium in Bloomington, Mn. The Vikings developed rapidly as an expansion team beginning in ’61 and even stunned da Bears in their first-ever game. Tarkenton was a huge part of that team captivating the attention of Minnesota sports fans.

Stix this signing was announced hours ago (on other sites) I’m surprised you didn’t get jazzed about this guy

  20. alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2021 at 8:16 pm

Jesus where do the Giants scrape up this dog shit?💩
    5 HR’s allowed to 31 hitters? That’s Gott territory!
A Littel to much long balls I would think, but the usual cheap make good contract for this year.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on February 3, 2021 at 9:28 pm

Minor league contract, I’m sure. That 4.52 ERA for the Twins stretched out over 65 2/3 IP during a 3 year span and that mass of dingers given up by the RHP sure looks sour. Last year was a blowout for him.

Apparently. the dumpster diving was based more on his 2019 stats where he surrendered only 9 BB vs 32 K’s, racking up a 2.68 ERA and a 1.162 WHIP. Can he do that again at age 25 and maybe new surroundings and expectations? Time will tell and so will his record as staff-stuffing for the River Cats.

Small gamble, but the Z.& H. Boyz have built a rep with such waaaaay under the radar moves.

  21. alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2021 at 8:20 pm

Omg 😱 Littell looks just like Sam Dyson..

  22. djloo27 said, on February 3, 2021 at 8:45 pm

He’s unbeaten in 41 straight appearances.
We should pitch him every day…

    • alleykat69 said, on February 3, 2021 at 8:51 pm

As long as the Archways are open..

      • willedav said, on February 3, 2021 at 9:02 pm

if they aren’t might want to alert Coast Guard to patrol the Cove.
