A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

One More Bowl In The Books

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on February 8, 2021

On February 3rd I wrote: “I have suckeled the sweet nectarine from Tom Brady’s teet, a magical moment indeed. I am on board with Tampa Bay covering maybe even winning……” No one paid much attention to that solid gold at the time and that’s too bad as it could have saved some Flappers some cash. Again, props to GH who paid up his debt midway through the 4th quarter. Blade has promised to send cash through the mail. Diggity will paypal me after he gets over how this possibly could have happened to his beloved Chefs. Right now, feelings are just too raw.

Now what? The predictable abyss of nothingness. Is hockey playing? NBA is ok but really I’m just waiting for Chi to post something about looking out his window and seeing spring start or winter end or some shit. I can’t remember what it is but I know it when I read it. And it’s the sign that baseball is almost here……

lol, and just like the last time he made one of these epic calls, Warner ruins it at the end. Still, solid gold from Harlan.

  2. chipower9 said, on February 8, 2021 at 7:21 am

Well, I had said if I was going to lay money on the game, I would go Bucs +3.5. Didn’t. Dumbfuck. 😉

    Not wanting to disappoint Flav:

“People ask me what I do in the winter when there is no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring” -Rogers Hornsby

And speaking of spring…9 (or 10) days until pitchers and catchers report.

    • Flavor said, on February 8, 2021 at 7:41 am

there it is! Now I can dream of baseball starting.

Very sad to see that. I once had dinner at his house ’96 or ’97 when he was covering the A’s at the Sac Bee. Nice guy, echoed by numerous sportswriters on Twitter last night.

      • willedav said, on February 8, 2021 at 8:15 am

whoa. Dinner at his house, very cool. Originally from Miami…did he live out here on left coast?

      • Macdog said, on February 8, 2021 at 8:27 am

I don’t know if he was still on the west coast.

Stix alluded to aroundthefoghorn story on Anderson for Wade deal, where they had couple different columns on this. In one, “The 40 man is currently full but that will change when ST begins since they will be able to place Brebbia Beede and Canario on the 60 day injured list.” Canario has shoulder problem, unfortunate,

    • Bozo said, on February 8, 2021 at 8:58 am

After 4 days on the 40 man and the revolving door we’ve seen in the past, I was wondering if Wade would still be on the 40 by ST. But, with the expected room that you mention and Wade having a couple of options, sounds like he’ll get a full shot. I look forward to seeing him play.

this Lame-onte Wade move is killing my buzz about The Grave Duggar.

Sadly this Lame-0 félla is having the same effect on my buzz for Davis.
What does Z see in this guy? Had to laugh where someone wrote that Lame-o shows
      Occasional HR pop..11 Homers in 500 AB’s nearly 1 in 50 that’s a stretch..

Gomez seemed like a truly nice guy. He had the unenviable task of chronicling the death-march buzzkill of Bonds’ chasing Aaron’s home run record. No one surrounding the event seemed to enjoy any of it.

    Except Giants fans.

That’s special John. Thanks for sharing. Like unca alluded to, I seem to recall him taking a lot of unnecessary crap, especially by Bonds, the SF Bay Area, and even here, at the Flap. Dude was just doing his job and now to find out he’s suddenly gone, coupled with all the positive comments about him, I’m just shaking my head about how life is often terribly unfair.

    RIP Pedro.

    • Macdog said, on February 8, 2021 at 9:54 am

Yeah, as Unca said, that probably was a slog having to cover Bonds’ joyless HR chase. I’m seeing some cool stories on Twitter, the best one about a young Oakland Trib reporter who was getting harangued by La Russa over a misleading headline the writer had nothing to do with, finally Gomez said, “Jesus Christ, Tony. You know we don’t write the headlines. The story is right. Leave the kid alone. Why are you embarrassing him?” Which probably said as much about La Russa as it did Gomez.

I know the Chiefs were missing their two starting tackles, and that is tough. Would have liked to see how TB’s D looked with the Chief’s two starting tackles in the mix. But Mahomes looked pretty pedestrian all day. TB was in his jock consistently.

    • Flavor said, on February 8, 2021 at 10:51 am

Andy reid making zero adjustments all game when his line was getting mowed down was weird, too

  10. willedav said, on February 8, 2021 at 10:55 am

options could be deciding factor as to who makes OF. Guys without them either have to win a spot outright or get DFA’d and released. Seems like only roster spots open for position players. Wade did OK vs. RHP with Twins…interesting that Z seems to value OB over bombs and slugging.

    • willedav said, on February 8, 2021 at 11:46 am

Slusser said Wade has one option left.

      • Bozo said, on February 8, 2021 at 12:59 pm

The Jeff Young article in Around the Horn said he had two remaining, but Slusser probably has the better info.

I would say after Andy Reid’s idiot kid drunk(admitted to 2-3 drinks I’m guessing more) on Adderal, driving and slamming into a disabled vehicle, uhh let’s make that 2 vehicles and sending to little kids( boy&girl) to the hospital, one the girl named Ariel 5 years old in a coma and bruising around her face. That Thursday crash had to have a heavy impact on Reid and the players knowing their leader is hurting, bringing the level of play down.

For as great a coach Andy Reid is, his 2 sons Garrett now dead ( drug dealer in Philly, heroin and addicted himself, alcohol abuse and Brit pass problems with guns, alcohol, drugs,DUI (2007) have to be a major black eye in his past and still future..

    • Winder said, on February 8, 2021 at 12:26 pm

      • Flavor said, on February 8, 2021 at 1:37 pm

yeah but the thing is, this dude has had other run ins and problems and Reid just kept promoting him. That’s negligence on his his part and makes him a co-conspirator in that tragedy the other day.

      • Winder said, on February 8, 2021 at 1:45 pm

yeah it is a spot on the KC organization.

I have been over the Sharks last couple years as well…not that I cared about Chiefs losing or losing to Flav, just would have been nice to have had an actual competitive game. Was awful to watch. Cant wait to tee it off in a couple days in Thousand Oaks…sad story about Pedro Gomez….

  13. Winder said, on February 8, 2021 at 12:23 pm

I remember when Gomez would go live talking about Bonds chase to the record. It always looked to me like he would rather be anywhere else than where he was. He was one of the better sports reporters IMO. RIP

  14. sandog said, on February 8, 2021 at 1:37 pm

I still can’t believe the Chiefs got blown out and didn’t even score a touchdown.

I have to tip my cap to you on this one Flav—you made a good call.

And double check your records cuz I paid your ass before the game was over as well.

Gomez news was a bummer. He wrote for a bay area paper for a little while.

This money I do have ($20 bill and 8 $1s) – is change from a dinner in Placerville 6 to 7 months ago. I stopped using cash last March after reading that COVID-19 is still active on many surfaces for up to 28 days.

Anywho, again, I bow to the master gambler. 🙂

I get a “This site can’t be reached” error message…

      • Carstie Clausen said, on February 8, 2021 at 3:46 pm

Chi: Try MLBTR. Just read there that ball is 1/10 oz lighter and slightly deadened. Could make life with the BoreCore a bit tedious unless Belt reverts to a mass of doubles and both he and Craw can emulate Buster by occasionally going the other way. Some dead-pull hitters will do okay, but center-over sluggers may gasp and pant in frustration

      • djloo27 said, on February 8, 2021 at 4:07 pm

The big gripe from pitchers in 2019 was that the stitches on the ball were barely raised…

      • Bozo said, on February 8, 2021 at 4:46 pm

Sorry about that Chi, I haven’t vetted this site and know shit about them but this is how it starts.

“The league has informed teams of changes to the ball that will be in effect for the upcoming season, MLB insiders Ken Rosenthal and Eno Sarris reported Monday. The tweaks to the ball will be minor reductions in weight and “bounciness,” the report said, and taken in total with the addition of humidors to several ballparks, the adjustments will likely have the combined effect of dragging down offense. MLB informed its 30 club teams of the changes in a memo last week, the report said.

An unnamed expert cited in the report believes the so-called deadening of the ball could curb home runs by about 5% — the equivalent of moving outfield walls back by about five feet in every MLB ballpark. A record number of home runs were slugged in 2019, surpassing the previous mark by a whopping 11%.”

    • xoot said, on February 8, 2021 at 4:11 pm

mlb’s juicing of the ball in 2015 was at least partly accidental. A retired nuclear physicist, big baseball fan, obtained and disassembled certified baseballs from before and after and determined that the yarn had changed. That’s it. Air resistance diminished, the hide, stitched by the same Costa Rican hands before and after, tightened slightly. Remember the pitchers who complained about the seams and developed blisters? (I posted the physicist’s article when I found it.) Other studies offered additional info. Mlb itself studied the changes. Now, apparently, they think they know what they’re doing. Tech advances, maybe.

So when do we get an accurate strike zone?

  17. unca_chuck said, on February 8, 2021 at 3:16 pm

Soon to be followed by letting aluminum bats into the game.

Not that the big majority of the people want that, but as long as tens of millions still get most of their info from the talking heads over boobtoob noose, objections will be swiftly stifled—unlike almost every country in Europe where street protests are all over the place and most particularly in Italy where hundreds of restaurant owners said they would not cooperate with the lockdown agenda. Probable majority of Americans have become too fat, satisfied and stoopid (channeling my inner Twin here) to do anything much more than gripe and grumble.

      • zumiee said, on February 8, 2021 at 6:03 pm

Stix, there’s plenty of video and photos of hand to hand combat that day. A police officer was killed, and 140 or so officers injured, some very badly. Many officers had head injuries, one lost an eye. 2 of the officers committed suicide a few days later. The mob came within minutes of getting to members of Congress and Pence.

      • unca_chuck said, on February 8, 2021 at 6:45 pm

      • Carstie Clausen said, on February 9, 2021 at 9:13 am

Latest info indicates police officer was NOT killed. Died, though. More media messing? The only person actually, provably killed was that Q. woman from SoCal who was shot at point blank range by a guard, originally from Brazil, who has been said to be a virulent anti-Trumpensteiner. Capitol police even beforehand refused reinforcements from FBI and others. You will never find this info on Boobtoob Noose or any other mass media of me$merization. Some 22 of the arrestees were reported to be Antifa types agitating the stoopid Trumpsters. There was a coup, alright, but not by that bunch of losers.

Rather then a not so heartfelt praying for the best approach. The Freakin Hunt’s are worth 15 billion dollars, and even Andy Reid millions, and yes I get that legal issues come into effect why nothing can be said, but setting up a go fund me should not even have been needed if the Chiefs did the right thing from the start..

Loo, sorry about KC’s loss. Mahomes is amazing. If he stays healthy in his career, he’ll always be relevant, and KC should do everything it can to build a more complete team around him. But you just can’t win a Super Bowl game by yourself. And I know this is not a popular view here on the Flap, but for me, I enjoyed watching one more game of Brady to Gronkowski. TB12 looked very comfortable out there. He loses when he’s not comfortable. Not uncomfortable last night. Too bad the game wasn’t closer, it really should’ve been closer….

    • Carstie Clausen said, on February 9, 2021 at 9:18 am

Agreed. Mahomes’ athleticism is almost beyond belief. That Hail Mary from down on his back came sooo close to a T.D. Most of his misses were like that, jumping, turning, spinning, eluding…and many of them were close enough that they should have been caught. Loss of those two tackles for KC were huge and indicative that with some competent protection from his linemen, he would have consistently connected.

He didn’t wait long enough for defender to get close enough. Shot fake might have worked, instead he just flung it .up there and missed badly. Inbound play started at 8.7 seconds with Warriors down 3, plenty of time to move ball even if Curry was guarded.

Mary Wilson of Supremes died too. How many school age girls imitated their onstage moves, like in Stop! In the Name of Love, from all the times they were on Ed Sullivan?
Saw the Funk Brothers vid about the local Detroit jazz musicians (including bassist James Jamerson) Motown employed to do all the rhythm tracks behind which the singers did all their hits. Great show, which also featured more modern takes on them live with other singers and newer bandmates. Good stuff and their music was big part of my HS days.

I’ll bet forfeiture proceedings could take all of those winnings. And he’ll still have legal bills. And probation. But he’ll also always have that broken tackle at the 50.

He was fined $1,000 for trespassing.

“Andrade was arrested and charged with trespassing before posting $500 bond.” Dammit. Where’s our criminal law expert?

According to latinosports.com, the DR went undefeated at 7-0 and won caribbean WS over PR. Cano played, Juan Lagares drove in run in deciding 4-1 victory, hit 2 bombs with 8 rbis overall. Felix Fermin was winning mgr.
Lagares I think is still looking for job after Mets let him go and signed Albert Almora. Have to look that up

Ah Angels signed Lagares to minor league deal for $1mil plus if he makes roster. Career with Mets .254/.297/.361 for .659 OPS 25 HRs in 1960 ABs. Solid defensive OF, rough year 2019 signed with Pads but couldn’t make team out of ST, no ML ABs 2020.

Grave Duggar could do the job of Lagares and Lame-onte and still have time to make himself a ham sando for a snack

mm we’ll see. Room for 5 OFs to make opening day roster. I’d say your boy is longshot though hardly out of the race.

I haven’t paid that much attention to our Bullpen, but I think Jake McGee is a pretty good signing.
