Day 1 in The Books!
I trust the mates got in the requisite number of ball scratches, stretches and tobaccy spits in. I saw a couple videos of Posey hitting in the cage. He looks a little round to me but maybe I just haven’t seen him in a while…..
Tatis is going to win multiple NL MVP’s. Lock his ass up for life, I don’t see a problem with what the Padres did. If we had a generational talent like that I’d hope the Giants would do the same.
You know I couldn’t leave this important stat at the end of the last thread:

Career homers off Stephen Strasburg:
Grave Duggar: 1
Tatis: 0
BellInger: 0
Machado: 0
Betts: 0
Funny stat line, good find by Loo. Try and keep track of how many HRs the others hit, as a total, before Duggar ever hits another one in MLB. Which might be never, at least as a SF Giant.
So happy for Osaka but every time I watched match something went wrong. At the start, Warriors game was delayed due to interminable NBA Sixers game where it took 20 minutes to play 20 seconds. Osaka served first and lost it then Serena easily held to go up 2-0. OK fine I’m out and switched to Warrior game.
check back in on phone, Osaka won first set 6-3 and led 3-1 in second. So without me watching she went 9-2. I switch back Serena wins point and Osaka double faults. OK I get the hint. Watch something else, match over 6-3 6-4.
No Blade Oscar Robertson never did get quadruple double, because it wasn’t yet official recorded stat in NBA. Alvin Robertson (U of Arkansas) did with Spurs, and first to do it was Nate Thurmond. Olajuwon did it twice
Machado has a $300M 10 yr contract. He only has a partial no trade clause though, so the Padres might escape some of that if necessary. Tatis has the team locked up in perpetuity.
Padres have squared or cubed the Braves approach to long term deals.
if they keep hitting on their farm system kids and deft trades this deal won’t kill them. And this guy is going to win mutliple MVPs which will likely lead to multiple WS’s for them. Most fans would take that.
Maybe. They had him locked up for years already. But yeah those WS trophies they’re guaranteed to win–those are something.
Dude is 22. We’ll see where it leads but yeah, he’s gonna kill for years. But hey we tried it w/the Bore Core. Just much later.
big diff–none of those guys were superstars.
Posey extended for 8 years, after two WS and a mvp, somewhat resembles the machado deal, but it’s still far from tatis’s.
I also wonder how much it costs to buy insurance on $300M plus contracts. Maybe it makes sense.
Kapler was non commital, maybe since Aaron Sanchez signing not yet official, but he does give them 6 SPs. So what happens to Webb? After first couple weeks with 3 off days, Giants play 13 days in a row, as Mac said. 6 man rotation? Webb to minors until needed as someone goes to IL?
With all the injuries the Giants always end up with in there starting pitchers they should go with a 6 man rotation.
Take the philosophy of the Rays(who I feel is the best run organization in baseball) they just want to see a bunch of guys pitch over 100 innings spread out not a couple top guys struggling to get to 200 innings anymore.
Giants should go that route since only Gausman and occasionally Cueto can give u extra innings.
Well since GD took Strasburgh deep maybe the Giants should lock him in at say 5/150..
oh can you imagine guaranteeing the Grave Duggar as ours and ours alone for 5 more years? Dream time.
That would be my worse nightmare, more so than going down on the Titanic..🚢
Mac, so sorry to hear about your dad. Such a wonderful POD tribute story. Take care.
Speaking of locking someone up, shouldn’t the Giants show a little love to Yaz? I know he’s a few years away from being arb eligible (2023?), but he not only was the team MVP last year he came in 8th for the league MVP voting. IMO SF might want to buy out a year or two of those arb years.
Bozo, I’m with u Yaz has proven to me he’s a consistent “Baller” out there and the Giants are getting a steal out of him like they did with Bum..
No. Lol. I think the window we are getting from him is tight and will close soon. Take advantage of his production on the cheap. Sucks for him but these are the rules.
Flav, with the rulebook throw down. Right now Yaz is our only sure OFer and I think he is making the league minimum. Ranking at number 8 in last year’s MVP voting, he received 81 total points, Corey Seager was 9th with 43 points. I say show the dude some love and reward performance.
Ask Bumgarner how the Giants reward players who outperform their contracts.
I know – different situation.
Still a disgrace, IMO…
can you imagine what a disaster move it would have been to pay him after his last deal ended?
Hell no. Get the best years out of someone and let the next guy flush money down the commode. A la Kevin Brown
The time to reward Bum was after the 2014 WS – not post dirt bike…
If all baseball scouts and personnel are correct the Giants will have there superstar coming in a couple of years in 19 year old Marco “Lucky” Luciano who many believe is more advanced then Tatis who’s 3 years older.
It will be awesome to see these 2 young studs playing against each other for years cause the Giants will have to lock him down as well to a bigtime contract if he proves everybody right he will be yelling “Show me the Money”💰💸💵💴
let’s see him explode on the MLB scene first. He’s a *could be*, Tatis is an *is now*
Babe Duggar.
There are so many new faces going to ST that no matter what it should be a fun and interesting year. If I was San Diego I would have waited another year to do that deal.
Sometimes money and kids don’t mix. At least in football that’s true.
personally I like the idea of paying these guys when they’re young. That’s when they are at their best. It’s a stupid system that they stay locked up for 6 years or whatever it is and then they hit free agency. They almost always go downhill from there…..
i will agree 14 years is kinda stupid. But 10 years would have been perfect. Get all his best years, let him go at 32, that would have been my plan
i wish we had a young guy to do this with. Yaz? Eh, I like Yaz but how many years do you see him doing this for? Pay him what you have to pay him and wait for the inevitable slide….
Agree unequivocally . . . as I said yesterday:
“If it all falls apart by May (it will), trade anyone with a heart beat. I am hoping that at least one of the “bore core” falls into this category a la Melanoma to Atlanta. Concurrent with the aforementioned, trade Yaz for a prospect(s) to a contender while he’s still worth something (age 31 in August).
No one on the current roster – hitter or pitcher – is going to be worth a roll of quarters, sans Dubon (shaky maybe) in 1 to 2 years. In effect, all emphasis has to be directed at the farm system.”
KNBR just had a fangraphs guy on. Dude was sky high on luciano, big thumbs down on Bart, thumbs up on Bailey and sees ok things for Heliot but not superstardom like luciano
Interesting, thx Flav. one of the f/g guys said earlier that there aren’t yet enough prospects to fill in all the gaps Giants currently have once BC exit stage left. I’d offer Yaz a 2 yr deal if he was going well at A/S break, maybe Gausman too since pitching seems bigger question mark than position players. I like Blade’s plan for Solano and Flores and retread SPs, but I’d hang onto LaStella along with Yaz and Dickerson. Some of the better prospects won’t be ready until 2023 or 24 if they pan out which seems like long way to wait things out imo.
I should clarify Willie . . . Of course we’re not going to have sufficient prospects (nor good enough, e.g., Ramos and Bart are mostly trade chips or adequate roster fillers in my opinion).
So, let’s say we are ready to promote 2-4 prospects similar to what we did in 2010 and 2011 with Santiago, Bumgarner, Lincecum and the remaining bore core (Posey, Belt, Crawford). Fast forward to 2022 or 2023, you hopefully have a similar situation – call it the “future bore core” if you will. Are you following me? Pay attention . . . lol
When that happens, BOOM, Z tells ownership to pull the proverbial trigger and you get 1 blue chip free agent and/or a couple free agents of less stature to fill in the position blanks. Voila! 2010, 2012, and 2014 all over again.*
*But this time we can their asses (trade them) after the 2028 San Francisco Market Street Parade.
Jenkins on KNBR saying “be realistic, there’s no way the Giants get the wild card this year, not with the stacked NL teams this year”
If the Cardinals pitching holds up i see them as a contender to the LABums and the Pads. I can’t see what the Giants are gonna do yet.
Show up…
They have a shitload of relievers to figure out that’s for sure, if they go 2 closers I would guess McGee Left side ( he has 45 big league saves)and Moronta if he’s good to go right side.Though I think Jarlin Garcia could get the job done as well.
They have to make a decision on rule 5 guy Nunez who has ML experience to keep are go back to Reds I believe.
I would also like to see these 2 guys break through,Camilo Doval 100 mph stuff just needs to harness it, but he’s ready for an early callup, and Kelvin Castro a consistent strike thrower both young studs in a pen that can use some..
I’m still trying to envision the Giants with a lead versus San Diego or Los Angeles in the late innings
Most particularly regarding Alex Wood, Zaidi mentioned starting games with “openers”. I can see this with most of the starters, excepting maybe Gausman. Here’s where an overstuffed relief corps could get the game into the third inning so the rotation guys may only need to go three or four, then if even a whiff of tired, getting yanked for the rather stingy late-innings guys. My take is that it may well begin with Wood and then proceed southwards as needed. There’s now enough flexibility in the right-left interplay that a mix n’ match approach could keep all but the most powerful offenses from quickly piling up an insurmountable lead early on.

now I don’t support fucking this guy over a few hundred grand. Goddamn CJ is donating to every qanon kook in the country, he can’t pay this hard working son of a bitch what he wants for a season?
Yep, I agree.
CJ ain’t making that call.
fuck him. Any move I don’t like, that’s his call.
They bent over Solano over 7.5K?
It’s bs over how consistent he has been Barreling up baseball’s for key at bats!
I bet they team won for 2 reasons..
1) They probably ripped him a new one and found plenty of tape/stats showing he can’t field a ball even in practice drills even.
2) I’m convinced they have a history of lowballing( except maybe Romo) DR players in general are just don’t bring them back like Petit who was damm good but didn’t want to pay him what he was worth..
agree with all of this.
Really miss Twin’s commentary at times like this.
He would have a major opinion on it…
