A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Boring

Lame-onte Wade Jr. gets the start today. No Jaylin. No Grave Duggar. Freaking Lame-onte Wade Jr. I think I’d rather see Sr. out there.

Regardless, I know it’s spring training but these line ups are a joke.

What about that Joe McCarthy? Last year he had 10 ABs for us with 5 Ks (no hits), in his 5 ABs this Spring he has 4 Ks and 1 BB. This guy can’t be this bad can he? We traded for him, he has to have something going for him. I’m thinking his 1st hit for us has to be over the fence.
So I guess that makes Senator Triple 0 my guy to be the ST phenom.

    • djloo27 said, on March 2, 2021 at 5:43 pm

Senator 000 is a nickname I can really get behind…

  2. gianthead said, on March 2, 2021 at 6:52 am

McCarthy worthless but looks like they are trying out as many left-handed bench bats they can but Vosler may be best of lot and likely more versatile that this Wade/McCarthy/Duggar threesome…

Hey I’m wrong about stuff all the time, and could easily be wrong about Nico Mannion. As is, the bar for a G off the bench for Warriors is pretty low, so maybe he and Poole can make some headway after getting to play in bubble.
Sitting out ST, which sounds even lamer than usual with new procedures. Vet hitters/pitchers don’t care about results, just getting ready for long haul. Spring phenoms often turn into total busts a month in and wind up back in AAA ball.
Good luck to your boy GD, but I don’t think he makes cut…so at that point he either goes back to Sac and bides his time or asks for his release and moves on somewhere else.

    • Flavor said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:47 am

let’s see how this ST shakes out before you start digging his grave. Remember, he digs your grave WillieD (and Kat’s too) you don’t dig his…….

Plus everyone is in feel good mode, even local writers who push all these blah puff pieces. Re read both of Ron Darling’s books, great stuff. In one he makes case against the shift—his out pitch vs. LH was something low and away (either soft or hard) that he worked diligently to achieve control of in order hit that spot consistently.
But if his defense is shifted away toward pull side, now bigger hole is opened up for the hitter to bloop bunt or bleed one through. So mgr and his analytic crew have taken away the out pitch he’s come to depend on.

    • Flavor said, on March 2, 2021 at 8:23 am

I don’t think everyone is in feel good mode. Murph (fr.the KNBR morning show) who is usually a mouth piece for the team was ranting pretty hard this morning about how Z never makes a big move and that as a season ticket holder he’s entitled to ask questions about the short and long term direction of the team

  5. unca_chuck said, on March 2, 2021 at 8:25 am

Lamont Sandford is lock to make the grade, while Grave Duggar goes back to digging ditches.

I have no idea about Mannion, but from the little I’ve seen, he’s the Grave Duggar of the Dubs. Flailing in the trenches.

    • Flavor said, on March 2, 2021 at 8:32 am

Unca I’m putting you on the Grave Duggar’s list too.

  6. Winder said, on March 2, 2021 at 8:57 am

It’s only the first week of ST and they gotta kick the tires on a whole bunch or these guys. Kinda like the first pre-season football game where everyone goes who the heck are these guys.

  7. alleykat69 said, on March 2, 2021 at 9:02 am

Game 3 and still no Jaylin Davis??
Man he gets less respect than George Floyd are serial killers!!
Joe Freaking K Machine McCarthy gets playing time over Davis and now LaLame and GD WTF??
It’s some kind of conspiracy holding him back, they talk like he’s got all the tools and power&speed, yet it’s all BS if he’s not on the fucking field to show his elite skills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m starting to get REALLY FUCKING PISSED 😡 with Z&K ..FreeJaylinDavis

    • Flavor said, on March 2, 2021 at 9:11 am

it’s probably for the best. If he played he’d be exposed as have 0 skill set instead of the 5 he mythically has when he never plays

      • djloo27 said, on March 2, 2021 at 1:27 pm

        Jaylin’s 5 tools…

What realistic “big” moves should Zaidi have considered? Between the untouchable status of the handful of great younger players out there, the sizable contracts of still productive older players, and the low value of the SF roster, what recognizable names would have significantly improved SF this year and into the future w/o the risk of being the next Cueto or Longoria? To be clear, I’d be fine if SF shelled out for established 28-32 year olds at any point, dispensing with the phony administrative game of winning within a budget. Then again, bravely cutting your losses with multiple big contract failures isn’t a good look, and it would be especially painful if a couple of those phenoms go Angel Villalona on us.

    • xoot said, on March 2, 2021 at 9:44 am

There are a lot of guns in the DR. Villalona was never very promising though. A fat fuck with some power.

      • James said, on March 2, 2021 at 9:51 am

Yeah, I remember, although he was supposedly their #1 prospect at some point. I referenced him more as a general case of you never know, but I also suspect the current prospects are much less likely to flop completely.

  9. James said, on March 2, 2021 at 9:45 am

Duggar’s a dog and I like SF’s front office and manager. You won’t find me a grave man.

    • Flavor said, on March 2, 2021 at 10:17 am

you are now on The Grave Duggar’s list, too. Sleep with both eyes open.

I just wish Hannibal Lecter would just eat GraveDuggar’s liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti..

    • Winder said, on March 2, 2021 at 11:37 am

Chianti has always been my favorite red. It was also my dads favorite Since I was 8 years old I was allowed a couple of ounces of it during dinner. Had a 4 ounce jackass tumbler. Learned to love the stuff.

      • gianthead said, on March 2, 2021 at 2:51 pm

        Old school…

  11. James said, on March 2, 2021 at 1:55 pm

All right, enough time’s gone by for a Loo-like lament over a general failure to recognize my effete genius. I mean, everyone was forced to read Romeo and Juliet in High School, right? And every English teacher loves to use the grave man pun to show how incredibly hilarious the Bard is. I turned it into a triple pun! Come on now, really . . . .

    • xoot said, on March 2, 2021 at 2:04 pm

      Be silent and exult
      For of all things known
      That is most difficult

      Or something like that

  12. djloo27 said, on March 2, 2021 at 4:02 pm

    Vengeance from the grave
Kills the people he once saved

    • alleykat69 said, on March 2, 2021 at 5:55 pm

Like GD…Vengeance is a dish served cold!

  13. djloo27 said, on March 2, 2021 at 5:52 pm

James 9:28 makes a lot of sense, but it still feels like they are operating like a small market team with no great urgency to get better…

    • James said, on March 2, 2021 at 6:55 pm

Maybe a token big $$ free agent signing would be politically smart.

      • djloo27 said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:12 pm

Well, I remember a prominent baseball magazine characterizing the Barry Bonds signing as being something like a nice centerpiece with little around it…

      • James said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:18 pm

        But who’s Bonds right now?

      • djloo27 said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:24 pm

Nobody, but big names are moving all the time…

  14. djloo27 said, on March 2, 2021 at 5:58 pm

Man, they are all coming out of the woodwork to bring down shithead Cuomo.
Over/under on when he resigns: April 1st

    • Flavor said, on March 2, 2021 at 6:18 pm

      under

      • zumiee said, on March 2, 2021 at 6:40 pm

        Yeah, he gone.

  15. alleykat69 said, on March 2, 2021 at 6:52 pm

The trouble with Cuomo is he thinks he’s entitled to anything, power, young woman, with no consequences. The guys a sleaze ball that needs to resign now!! Go with the under as well..

    • unca_chuck said, on March 2, 2021 at 8:44 pm

Just once I’d like to see a Democrat just say fuck you, I ain’t getting railroaded by you fucking clowns.

  16. alleykat69 said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:12 pm

Vosler 2 ringing doubles and off of Buehler &May that’s getting it done! Has to be in the hunt for a backup infield gig I would assume..

    • James said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:18 pm

A platoon with Longoria. Do they have enough spots on the roster for all the platoons?

    • Macdog said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:58 pm

Pavlovic said there’s no room on the big league roster right now, but that he’ll be up at some point.

  17. djloo27 said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:26 pm

How many pitchers are we lookin at?
    13 minimum? Ridiculous…

    • James said, on March 2, 2021 at 7:28 pm

If they stick to 2 catchers, everything will be solved.

  18. alleykat69 said, on March 2, 2021 at 8:00 pm

Not digging Leone at all. Maybe he should go back directing spaghetti westerns like his father Sergio.

  19. James said, on March 2, 2021 at 8:24 pm

It’s Lou Reed’s Bday, so time to play football for the coach. I went to see him on the Coney Island Baby tour with some high school friends in 1976. We thought we were being transgressively cool going to the show because Reed was “gay.” At the same time, the flashy guitar playing on Rock n Roll Animal’s Sweet Jane, which is what I was really into, was better than Ted Nugent. He sang the title track to Coney Island Baby late in the concert, after I had nearly fallen asleep waiting for Sweet Jane and some guitar heroics that just weren’t going to happen, sitting with his legs dangling over the edge of the stage. A show I wish I’d seen at 36 instead of 16.

Was Miller doing game live from Arizona last night? Next local telecast not for 2 weeks. Must be difficult for K n K doing it from studio here only.
