A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Jordan Poole Is A Stud And…..A Hidden Injury For The Grave Duggar?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 5, 2021

If any of you follow me on twitter you’ll notice my #freePoole tags I’ve been sprinkling on that godforsaken site over the last 2 weeks. And now you know why……

Trying to come up with a reason for Grave Duggar’s slow start. Only thing I can think of is that he done dug too many damn graves. Shoulder muscles worn all the way down to the scapula.

So while I stand in solidarity with San Dawg, Loo and the throngs of others who support him I fear his best years may be behind him. Can he ever recover from this injury?

_________________________________________________

Ok, you guys have been good sports about my Grave Duggar threads so I am rewarding you with a video San Dawg sent me yesterday while he was awaiting his second vaccine shot. If you remember, Diggity and his boys bought an RV some years back for the princely sum of $1200. It’s always been a dream of mine to tour Harvey but alas he never leaves San Diego county. I had no confidence Diggity would be able to fire up the great beast. Watch and see if I was right or wrong……..

The Giants are excited about La Stella and Yaz at 1 & 2 at the top of the lineup. Maybe the Giants will score more in the first inning, for one thing, and put more pressure on opponents.

  2. Bozo said, on March 5, 2021 at 6:41 am

Kat, not sure if you saw this from Susan Slusser, “Kapler says Jaylin Davis has had some knee soreness but will be in the lineup soon.”

  3. Bozo said, on March 5, 2021 at 6:48 am

    Bum had a nice 1st ST outing. 2 IP, 1H, 6 SO.

    • xoot said, on March 5, 2021 at 7:43 am

      Two? Two? Old school.

      • Bozo said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:17 am

So true, Xoot. They have had 5 guys start their 5 games and all of them went 2 innings. They are so out of touch over there in Arizona.

GS biggest problem has been inconsistency of role players off bench. Last night was tank game, and by 4th Q it was full on garbage time. Poole looked great but let’s see how that works vs. better players when game is on the line, and how often he can shoot the ball well.

Gonna see if I can find amount of times GD has been on DL/IL over his brief career–in other words, story of the Glass Menagerie.

If the Giants want to sniff .500 this season, they better bring up my “boy” Ramos. Heliot’s a “Porsche” compared to all the “Gremlins” they have right now. Add him to the Yaz and Dubón outfield and you’ll have something to cheer about this season. The Giants gave that “phenom” Bart a shot last season and he failed miserably. Ramos deserves a shot, as he is ranked equally to Bart now.

Dickerson, Ruf, Wade Jr., and AK’s “boy” Davis deserve shots for reserve roles. Slater, Basabe, Duggar and McCarthy they might as well cut right now, so they can look for other career gigs or reserve their normal spots on the taxi squad/minor league teams for the 100th or so time.

    • willedav said, on March 5, 2021 at 7:54 am

Ramos had not so good AA numbers, worse than Bart, no? And of course spent 2020 in alt site. Just think he needs more seasoning before being thrown in there vs. ML pitching.

      • blade3colorado said, on March 5, 2021 at 8:03 am

You’re right Willie, I should have rephrased that sentence (I will). He’s been in the minors since 2017, not to mention kids in Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic usually play against better competition. Anyway, I do like his OBP, his athletic size, and one last thing – he is ranked exactly where Bart is now, so throw the kid a bone.

I personally have said there is almost zero reason to go to the park. That’s why I will go to minor league games in Sac and San Jose . . . Unless the Giants give me a reason to attend a big league game and that would be bringing up the “future” (Ramos).

      • willedav said, on March 5, 2021 at 8:30 am

oh yeah these 2 seem closest. Would be cool to see them in Sac. Have a feeling following development of prospects in minors this season will be more fascinating than ML Giants.

  6. willedav said, on March 5, 2021 at 7:57 am

In 95 ABs for Richmond 2019 Ramos had 3 HRs and 10 XBHs. Slash line .242/.321/.421 for .742. Not sure exactly what that “proves” other than AA pitching was tough on him.

Sweet video! Harvey will be touring the beaches of San Luis Obispo any day now.

  8. sandog said, on March 5, 2021 at 8:48 am

I’m not sure he’s got than many innings in his arm, but that would be awesome!

    Gotta love Diggity…

    • Flavor said, on March 5, 2021 at 9:21 am

The “oh yeah” was the best closely followed by a “March 4th just in time for summer” call

  10. sandog said, on March 5, 2021 at 9:22 am

@Blade and anyone else who feels Z has shackles on him re spending and player decisions (which I disagree with BTW) give me some examples of signings other teams have made that you think we should have and could have made?
I honestly don’t see any out there that made sense for us.

I honestly think Z could release Crawford if he wanted to. But then he would bring in some replacement level SS. Might as well keep Craw in that case. Maybe some feel he should have done that and spent $18 mil on Semien? For me, that seems like a waste of money when we are so far from contending in the toughest division in MLB.

    • Flavor said, on March 5, 2021 at 9:32 am

no doubt. Take Harper for example. I was dead set against that signing. But had we signed him, how bummed would we all be to see him getting walked 3 X a game while we check in with 72 wins this year.

      • sandog said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:00 am

I dunno man. With Harper on our team last year, I think we make the tourney, and who knows what crazy shit could have happened then….
Admittedly, that was a wacky deal though and we are probably better off without him in the long haul. Though I wanted him BADLY.

    • djloo27 said, on March 5, 2021 at 9:53 am

I thought Tanaka woulda been a nice fit for the rotation.
He wound up going to Japan…

    • blade3colorado said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:08 am

Not talking about player signings. I was totally referring to releasing players (bore core and pitchers who face planted, e.g., Timmy, Cain, etc.) or trading them for whatever they could get for them. I take zero joy in seeing “pass their milk date” players that had their last hurrah in 2016 or before . . .

Rich franchises do that (see Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers). Our team? We act like Horace Stoneham still owns the team and we’re still at the ‘stick. Consequently, as I said yesterday, I love what Z is doing with our “flotsam” and picking up “Kokomo Joe’s” and seeing if they stick to the wall.

  11. blade3colorado said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:09 am

We will never know for sure, but seriously you believe that bullshit about we were serious about signing Harper? Hilarious. We have done that just about every year since 2015 or 2016. Yeah, right.

    • blade3colorado said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:14 am

Difference between us and the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, etc.? Is that if they miss out on a “Harper,” you can be damn well certain that they sign some one else almost in that stratosphere. Us? No freaking way and our ace local reporters perpetuate the Giants PR myth.

      • Bozo said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:33 am

Are you saying the Giants didn’t offer Harper a 12-year, $310 million contract? Or are you saying $310 for 12 years wasn’t a serious offer?

      • blade3colorado said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:59 am

John, I have no idea what their offer was. Only because the media says something, do you believe it? If the Giants were serious about upgrading the team, don’t you think they would have had a “Plan B” if their bid was insufficient for Harper? Our Plan B was Holland and Pomeranz. What happened to the big hitter? lol

Again, I stand by what I said, i.e., other teams actually follow through on upgrading their team annually with a combination of free agent signings, existing players, and promoting their minor leaguers . . . Us? We act like Miami or Horace in the 1970s.

      • Bozo said, on March 5, 2021 at 11:16 am

I have no reason not to believe all the media reports on the Giants offer and it wasn’t just the local scribes. Zaidi said he had a plan B but all we saw was two guys he plucked off the waiver wire, so who knows if that was his only backup plan. If I remember right, Harper said he choose the Philies because Belt, Posey and Crawford were coming to the end of their contracts and he didn’t know who would replace them or something like that.

  12. willedav said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:27 am

Give Pads credit for swooping in on quality pitching, going back to last season. And for still having strong enough prospects in farm to withstand trading some of them away. Especially for pitching Giants are still ways behind them for younger guys.

    • gianthead said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:47 am

I still think we could have put a way better offer on the table for Blake Snell than what the Padres did!!

  13. gianthead said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:42 am

Well it is freezing balls here on the east coast…miss my sunny Santa Cruz from 2 f’n weeks ago…Poole may finally be the shot in the arm they need for second team scoring. Wiggins continues to suck dick..

    • djloo27 said, on March 5, 2021 at 10:48 am

      “Wiggins continues to suck dick”
Is that a legitimate scouting report?

Yes. He has been a ghost for the past 2 weeks.

    • alleykat69 said, on March 5, 2021 at 11:53 am

Speaking of Santa Cruz area just south down the road at Big Basin State Park the redwoods are still smoldering 6 months after the fire 🔥 incredible…

  14. alleykat69 said, on March 5, 2021 at 12:08 pm

Thanks MacDog &Bozo on the update of Jaylin Davis.
I find it strange that the team has been in camp since mid February
and this is the first mention of him having a sore knee keeping him out?
He gets so little respect I wouldn’t be shocked if they gave him a whack-o mole
on his knee while he was sleeping at the start of ST to keep him from playing..

  15. Carstie Clausen said, on March 5, 2021 at 12:14 pm

Patience, gentlemen, patience. This isn’t the year. On that we’re all clear. Just finished working through Foghorn’s Marc Delucchi’s take on those he rates as SF’s top prospects…all 31 of them rated. Only one potential superstar, though, Marco Luciano. And he’s still a teenager.

Lots of guys in middle-range of actual prospects, though. Most positions covered quite well by the 31. Starting pitchers still seem to be the short zone—maybe 3 who could project as mid-rotation or higher. Perhaps one could be an ace or deuce. Loaded with Use More of Petit types—short starters/longmen. Even more so than yesterday, I’m envisioning a strategy of maybe one or two 150 innings-plus starters in 2-3 years (excepting possible F.A. or trade pickups), a host of guys capable of 2-4 innings and latter innings hosting a corps of 3-4 nasties.

Could such a strategy work? Limited S.T. stats are pointing in the direction of confusing them with a cavalcade of moundsmen…mostly good for an inning or two, but also capable of doing the same in another day or so.

that site is a good read Stix, glad you mentioned it while back.

sorry to hear about your older sister, Unca Chuck that fucking sucks.

    • unca_chuck said, on March 5, 2021 at 2:51 pm

Yeah, hard to even imagine she’s gone. We talked all the time, and since she was pretty compromised, she didn’t get around as much as she wanted this last year. She broke her ankle in June, and that really slowed things down, and made her condition worse. She had breathing problems, and it had gotten pretty rough for her the last couple months, We all visited as much as we could and talked to her all the time. But it was still sudden, and it truly sucks that she’s gone. Her story is one of resilience and determination.

When she was 16 (in 1967) she got pregnant, and had a kid at 17. Dear old dad said get the fuck out of my house, I’m never talking to you again, and she dropped out of high school and split with her soon-to-be husband. That lasted for 6 years, and in the meanwhile, Deb got her GED, and her paralegal license. She moved to Santa Cruz in 1975 and walked into one of the more prestigious law firms in the area, in torn jeans, a t-shirt, and flip-flops no less, and said “hire me. I’ll be the best paralegal you will ever have.”

She out-lived both the partners, and was working part-time for the son of one of the partners. She lived life to the max, drinking hard, playing hard, living hard, and taking no shit from anyone. She was at every baseball game of her only daughter’s son, even into college at UC Davis. She always had kind thoughts and words for anyone in the family and was fiercely protective of us all.

Whenever I would come down to see her with friends, she was the first one to buy them beers and offer them a place to crash. She became good friends with anyone in the satellite of people us brothers and sisters would drag down to the beach. She literally touched hundreds of lives in the Santa Cruz area. She will truly be missed. Man, this really sucks.

Another dumpster dive like when they picked up Justin Smoak for an AB.
Though Justin Bour is a cheap no risk signing( like most of them lol)who could help out balancing out a crowded 1B scenario being Lefthanded cause I don’t think Belt will start the season.Vosler would seem to be the better choice playing first and is also left handed..
Hmmm.. I heard Smoak Bour is great tasting though!

  21. Macdog said, on March 5, 2021 at 5:18 pm
