Friday Wrap Up
My fellowship with San Dawg took a dark turn yesterday as San Diego State, a team I would not have picked in my brackets, fell to PK’s Syracuse. If I’ve learned one thing over these last 12 years it’s to always go with PK over SDD when it comes to college hoops. Oh well, all 3 of my brackets still have the final fours in tact. You know what they say, you don’t win a March Madness pool on Day 1 but you can definitely lose them. This is a lesson my student Pa Salon should have learned by now……
What type of disrespectful bullshit did the Reds drop on us yesterday? I’m not talking about losing, we are going to do a lot of that this season. I’m talking about the WAY we lost. They trotted out 9 different pitchers for one inning each and we let each one stride back to the dugout with a complete inning in the books? We couldn’t run ONE of them to an early shower? Pathetic. Drop a 1/3 or a 2/3 on their sorry asses you pussies!
Devastating loss for my Aztecs. Just had an absolutely awful shooting night. Several of my friends blaming the coaching and the famous Syracuse zone, but they had tons of good looks and just couldn’t put the ball in the basket.
to your credit, you didn’t tout them. I just rolled them out there to the Elite 8 because Harvey fired up the other day and I took that as a sign.
I took 18-1 on Iowa to win the whole thing.
That pretty much guarantees an early exit…
A step back for our boy last night.
0-2 with a K and 3 LOB.
Can’t afford too many of those…
Stand up double for Luciano. The ball will be in his parting gift bag, I bet.
I didn’t pick SDS in my bracket either, actually thought they had a better team last year but with the pandemic they got hosed. Man last night’s game was brutal!
“Aztecs players threw up more bricks 🧱 then all the rioters in LA after Rodney King beating”
No one could heave a brick like Ignatz.
Just ask Krazy Kat…
Krazy Kat is the best.
May as well add a Zumie-like bit of historicofactual context https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/12/books/review/krazy-george-herriman-biography-michael-tisserand.html
The dreaded pay-wall rises up to block.
Ahh, sorry … although I assumed all good liberals now paid for their subscriptions to the NYT and Post 🙂
http://www.tcj.com/reviews/krazy-george-herriman-a-life-in-black-and-white/
James- thanks for the link. That was an interesting biography. Always liked Krazy Kat but didn’t know the backstory. I guess I am a half good liberal I only have a WaPo subscription.
You’re welcome, Winder. And thanks to Loo for another cool reference.
It’s mindboggling that the NCAA allowed the women’s freebie gift-bag to be a joke compared to the men’s. That’s all free corporate give-away stuff. How hard would it have been to get that right? It’s a completely unforced error, and makes the NCAA look stupid again, which they’re good at doing.
After the tournament, the one-and-done players will drop out of school without having completed one year of college.
A JOKE.
More players in the future may skip the one-and-done thing and play in other leagues for a year, in Europe or wherever, and make some cash.
I read a thing about a group that wants to start a pro high school developmental league. The players would get paid and not play for their high school teams.
A step beyond the traveling teams that have eclipsed high school sports. At least that was true of girls’ softball back when my daughter played.
Just a microcosm of the fucked up, corrupt, money obsessed world we live in.
No wonder God hates us…
Approaching APB time for Stix…
You don’t think Stix disassembled his monitoring ankle bracelet and is on the run 🏃♂️ now?
This guy in a heavy metal band was denied the ankle bracelet. He wishes he had a “do-over.”
“Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer will be held without bail until the trial for his role in the Capitol riot commences. As Indiana news station WUSA-9 reports, a federal judge gave the ruling during Schaffer’s bail hearing on Friday. The guitarist is facing six charges for his involvement in the insurrection on Jan. 6, which includes engaging in an act of physical violence in a Capitol building after allegedly assaulting a Capitol officer with bear spray.
Schaffer’s attorney, Marc Victor, argued that his client admitted he’d “used bad judgement” by attending the riots and wished he had a “do-over.””
He’s the guy in the blue coat:

The “Friday Wrap Up” is on Saturday!
Today is the Spring Equinox. Night and day have equal length in most of the world.
The formula for when Easter is, is ridiculously convoluted. The first Sunday after the first full moon after the Equinox.
The Kings have quietly gone 5-5 in their last 10 games. They had an efficient business-like win over the Celtics last night. I think the Kings are 2 1/2 games out of a playoff spot, but that’s a mirage at this point.
Maybe XOOT or someone else knows how to find out if he’s back in the clink? Parole violation maybe? It’s also possible that he died.
Could he have been turned off by all the Grave Duggar stuff?
Grave Duggar stuff should turn you on, not off.
the dream is dead
The dream is over,
What can I say…
Baseball is a concept by which we measure our pain.
Thanks loo – love that song and totally forgot about it. I always wondered whether john believed in Mother Nature(laws of nature) or Karma. Because I believe in both of those. I do go along with him on the other stuff though.
Z is going to regret this. He is on the list as well and should be sleeping like Kat sleeps these days: both eyes open
C’mon a little Crowded House is in order!
Don’t Dream It’s Over!
Neil Finn toured as a member of Fleetwood Mac a couple of years ago, which no one saw coming.
i hate the Beatles. You’re just making this day worse. First the Grave Duggar gets optioned now this!
Ahh, how can anyone hate these guys?

George’s tie, lulz.
good times
Last I heard from Stix, he and a friend were headed off to his old homestead. That was the same day as his last post here.
Today is John and Yoko’s wedding anniversary. I know what a big favorite she is of Beatles fans.
Just like them to wed on the vernal equinox. Do you have a recording of the song she sang at the ceremony? Please share it, if you do.
Please don’t…
They got married at Gilbralter, which strangely is owned by the British.

Molly Bloom was from Gibraltar. Now that’s interesting.
As if you didn’t know, Zum…
Finally made the plane into Paris
Honeymooning down by the Seine
Peter Brown called to say
You can make it okay
You can get married in Gibraltar near Spain
Fun fact- John and Paul were the only ones in the band able to make it to the studio when John wanted to record the song. John sang lead and played guitar; and Paul sang back-up, and played the bass and drum tracks. And, Shazam, another #1 hit record.
Fun fact. The Beatles are responsible for the two worst covers in pop music history. Harrison’s My Sweet Lard (orig The Chiffons) and McCartney’s early Beatles turn with Til There Was You (orig some Broadway show).
This is the biggest thing I want to see in MLB – 8 pitchers (5 starters, 2 relievers, 1 closer). Why? This is the freaking 1965 Giants . . . If you want to know why pitchers are all throwing 90 to 100MPH, it’s because there are so fucking many of them (13 on current day roster) and they pitch 1/3 to 1/2 less versus the war horses of yesteryear.
Agree, it’s ridiculous, but you know for every one of those 250-300 inning horses there were countless guys washed up by 30 with “sore arms”…
I almost thanked Flavor for not picking up on yesterday’s Old Men Wailing About Our Lost Game drama, but since Blade missed out and had to chime in, sort of . . . . a small quibble with Xoot’s assault on the good name of computers. Human’s are still asking the what if questions and discerning patterns behind strategies like the shift. “AI” didn’t figure it out on its own and offer it as a suggestion. I’d further guess that traditional data warehouse computing could have been used more to explore alternative strategies. In other words, baseball could have been far more “progressive” a while ago with less data and a lot less computing power than AWS or GCP offer.
I agree. But come on. Those positioning cheat sheets all the players consult now when a new batter steps in–they’re not typed up by a cute assistant taking dictation at the manager’s desk.
Well, if the cheat sheets were updated inning by inning, I might concede the point :-).
How do you know they arent?
Lol, I don’t, of course.
I’m just happy the beatles talk has subsided
The Grave Duggar had me more riveted to Spring Training than I’ve been since I was a kid waiting for the weekly reports in The Sporting News.
This is a real gut punch…
Why can’t we just have nice things
Not subsided yet. I have to respond to Xoot’s “My Sweet Lord” comment.
However people feel about the song, it was a hugely successful single. It was a #1 hit all over the world and sold 2 million copies worldwide. And did a great job of promoting sales of George’s triple album.
The best feature of “Til There was You” was George’s exquisitely tasteful guitar solo. And I think also that song served the Beatles well in maybe helping to win over some of the parents watching that first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. And it showed the Beatles had that whole other traditional pop side to them, in addition to being the most innovative rock band at the time. The Beatles just flat-out liked the song. They knew it from a Peggy Lee recording, I think, and not from the Music Man musical.
The beatles pulled the bangs over a lot of people. That’s true. I once met Shirley Jones. Very pleasant smile that looked like it needed a drink ASAP.
For the longest time I only knew her from the Partridge Family, which was must-see TV when I was a kid.
Yes, those Beatles fans for the past 50+ years will see the errors of their ways someday.
No surprise on Duggar.
Hey he can actually get a job with a circus act.
With his dislocated shoulders he could easily pull a Houdini and escape from a straight jacket under water!!
How ya sleeping BF?
Gotta be better than you. Your constant disrespect to this great Giant in waiting coupled with the fact that he buries motherfuckers who don’t believe in him has got to be taking its toll on you especially late at night when he does all his best digging
Now that is good.
I had never heard of Molly Bloom or the movie. I’m a big Sorkin fan.
“In April 2013, she was charged with running a high-stakes poker game that originated in the Viper Room in Los Angeles, which attracted wealthy people, sports figures, and Hollywood celebrities. In May 2014, after pleading guilty to reduced charges, she was sentenced to one year of probation, a $1,000 fine, and 200 hours of community service. In addition, she was required to forfeit $125,000 in earnings from the games she operated.
A film adaptation of her book, Molly’s Game, starring Jessica Chastain and directed by Aaron Sorkin, debuted in December 2017.”
Molly Bloom is a main character in Ulysses. James Joyce’s novel.
Never read it I have to admit. I did read The Dubliners.
Speaking of Sorkin. I also once met Abbie Hoffman. I sort of like baron cohen but he’s about three feet taller than Hoffman. Still, I look forward to watching the trial of the Chicago seven. Any preview?
Haven’t seen the Chicago 7 film yet. I’ve seen rave reviews for it.
The Sorkin movie will go straight onto my NetFlix queue.
Dubliners is great. I reread it after a trip to Ireland couple years back. But Ulysses I dig into again every year.
I just love George’s little guitar solo in “Til There Was You.” This clip is just the solo:
“I never soar them winging” Paul’s contribution
The game sucks today. What Snarkk said about it being a snooze fest is fact.
Besides, what I said about having 8 pitchers max on a roster, I want my 1950s and 1960s manufactured baseball back. Go find the SOB whom managed baseball manufacturing in Cuba, Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico and buy the baseball spec blueprint(s) from him/her. Regarding commercial television breaks, fuck them. Back in the day, it was ONE FUCKING MINUTE between innings. Now, it’s almost 3 . . . zzzz. If they want a commercial, fit it in while the inning is being played, like they do in football now.
We don’t need no 20 second clock between pitches. Get the damn umpires to do their jobs like they did back in the 60s. A pitcher gets ONE warning . . . 2nd warning he’s thrown out of the game. This “Verlander” 30 seconds bullshit between pitches has to end, more so for a no name fucking reliever. Same deal with batters scratching their balls or adjusting their gloves outside the box.
No more protecting the 2nd baseman, catcher, etc. Fuck them too. Go file a lawsuit with Mac Williamson. It’s baseball – just ask Mickey Mantle and the sprinkler head. End of rant . . .
I can go on and on, but the last time baseball resembled baseball was right before they added that dumb ass DH rule. Stupid. Half the strategy of the game disappeared when that happened. Okay, now end of rant.
You packed a lot of solid takes into this post
Was it a snooze in 2010? 2012? 2014?
Apples and oranges Loo. I loved our style of play, conga line hitting, defense, late inning comebacks, unbelievable starting pitching, and great relief pitchers and closers. A real throwback in many respects to yesteryear.
Most important, I could give 2 shits – THEY WERE MY FUCKING TEAM! That shit Kapler is running out there in spring training is a monstrosity compared to what we were.
The DH and the FA arose around the same time. I don’t think you can separate developments like that. Not that I’ll ever like the dh.
Don’t see that many players hitting the dirt anymore. During the 60’s that was a staple.
Unless I had a decent sized bet on it, I was pretty bored with every Super Bowl except IV & LIV…
Similar to you, I only bet on football. Otherwise, it bores me. I haven’t watched a complete game in years . . . and weird, but I always make money on it (DraftKings).
I’m ready to bury the hatchet some on GraveDuggar BF. Even though he has proven to the Giants organization that he can’t hit worth a lick are stay healthy, he had some defensive skills which unfortunately doesn’t outweigh his noodle bat.Guess I also to have to begrudgingly say that about my guy Davis though I still feel they have screwed him time and time again with limited playing time!!
Well WTF they can both toil in the same outfield in Sacramento till they both move on ( this year are next)from this organization as neither will get a shot here anymore.
Now there latest fixation for now is McCarthy&Lameonte for some unforeseen reason..whatever..
Wow..Oregon moves on to bracket of 32 without having to play as VCU is under Covid-19 protocol and cannot play! Devastating news for VCU and there program as even with a bubble situation there bubble just got burst!
It’s unfortunate the Giants aren’t going contend. I’d enjoy being there to help everyone surface and express all of their bottled up boredom.
If we can clean up most of the errors, hit like we did last year, and have a few of our pitchers find the zone it just might be a little fun.
A good start would really help…
you want a good start? Put #6 in the goddamn OF Game FUCKING ONE
A good start never happens under the stupidity of Larry Baer and ALWAYS Starting on the freaking road!!
3 in Seattle then 3 with San Diego I’m looking at 1-5..2-4 at best, before there home opener April 7th..Book It
the Kings are so bad. Philly missing Simmons and Embiid, they’re still getting blown out.
I have a dumb question: why has it been ok for Bob Fitzgerald to treat Smailagic as a total joke in public? Is he so shitty that even the team’s announcers have been encouraged to use him as a bad joke? Is Smiley in on it? Why is he on the team?
Fitz is a terrible person. I ,literally hate him. He probably kicks dogs.
also he hung up on me circa 1990 for giving him a pretty sweet nickname, actually. I called into KNBR and he was looking for a new nickname than the Young Bob he had at the time. I rolled out “Carl Jung Bob” and that fucker hung up on me. Can you believe that?
Ha, nice! Thanks for the confirmation. He looks a little like human garbage shitbag Rush L. Has that been noted before?
I think Fitzgerald is OK on his radio show, but I don’t think he’s much of a play-by-play guy. He sounds like he’s really forcing things on play-by-play, trying to hype things.
The Kings are a mystery to me. Some nights they just don’t show up and I don’t get it. I guess Walton takes some blame. But I’m tired of the Kings endlessly changing coaches. That has to stop. Give a coach 4 or 5 years to make his mark. It can’t just be a constant revolving door of coaches.
They got rid of Divac didn’t they? He was the idiot GM who could have had Doncic but instead has the injured Bagley. His other drafts were equally shitty. Last year he had no 1st round picks and their 3 2nd round picks are ghosts.
That being said, I think they give Walton a chance.
You can bet the Kings regret not taking Donic over Bagley ..
For what it’s worth: I liked The Trial of the Chicago 7, watched it twice, actually. I was kind of young when that was happening, so it filled in a lot of gaps and I thought was pretty well done. Also liked Molly’s Game, but I’m a big Jessica Chastain fan. Rewatched Echo in the Canyon and got a bit mad at it. It could’ve been so much more. Speaking of For What It’s Worth, I hadn’t realized the story behind the name of that song. Buffalo Springfield dude went to the record company and handed them the tape and said “Here’s a new song, for what it’s worth”. ….
Da Five Bloods? I liked it.
Haven’t watched that yet, waiting for the right mood. Fellow expat friends over here hated it, re: the whole Vietnam thing. Some VNmese also scratched their heads about it. I need to watch it to see why such reactions.
Yeah that’s why I wondered.
I think plan B may involve Bailey.
Buster turns 34 next week.
This season is good bye, no matter what…
Crawford turned 34 in January.
Another one 100% on the farewell tour…
Team option. We know what plan A is. I also don’t see it happening.
I don’t fault Divac much on the Doncic thing. The Kings were committed to Fox at point guard and no one knew Bagley would be constantly injured.
I’m always a few years behind on movies, but I usually get around to things eventually.
I’ve been watching episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and laughing at some horrifically bad movies. MST 3000 has been like comfort food to me during the volatile last year of national events.
The Doncic miss killed my NBA fandom. I was begging for them to draft him and I just can’t let it go that they didn’t.
Heard Bagley desperately wants out of Sacramento and that’s coming out of the mouth of his father lol 😂!
Kings are stuck with him as his metrics on defense plus his health issues are major red flags 🚩are the worst in basketball and GM’s know this so the phone lines are dead. That poor new GM McNair only has 2 players Fox&Haulbertson to work with while the rest of the team is meh..,
Well the holy rollers of Abilene Christian may not be as cool as the artists of Denton, but that was a great game.
Well-deserved win for Abilene, but 20+ turnovers for Texas, is there a more overrated coach than Shaka Smart?
Same with the Santa Barbara Gauchos against Creighton.
Santa Barbara player had an easy go up strong at the rim and it rolled out with a second left as they lose 63-62 in a brutal loss..
Kat SB loss brutal. I blame it on weak Big west. A a LB state alum the conference is weak:(
Zummie and paul..Chicago 7 was a great movie!
Huge Beatles fan. Harrison’s my sweet lord was great!
