Disappointing Blowout Loss
I agree with this guy and it’s a good example of why I think Kerr is overrated as a coach.

Now, you could argue “the warriors don’t ever run a pick and roll so they don’t know how to defend it.” And I would say,
“well isn’t that what Kerr is supposed to teach them how to do?”
I know Green was out but that’s another point. Kerr has leaned on that crutch for too long. When Draymond is out and the opponent is running the same play over and over what is your response?
Kerr had nothing.
I have raised criticism of Kerr earlier this season not being able to put together a rotation that can run offense once Draymond and Curry sit. Obviously some of the pieces dont fit and Klay changes the rotation when he is back. I would have liked to have seen them make a run for Aaron Gordon. But he will be a free agent after 2022 when Curry’s current deal is up….
I don’t like the team Kerr has been given–bunch of mis matched pieces he is supposed to weave together. At offensive end he is NOT going to go away from the motion stuff he has run for long time with tremendous (as in Championship rings) success, even if all he still has are Curry and Green.
He still does have Adams as defensive guru and yet there are near bottom of league for points allowed and get crushed on boards regularly, even with Green. It is very weak team for rim protection and rotations of what passes for big men–fair enough to blame Kerr for that but imo most of blame has to go to GM. Who is Kerr supposed to play that can defend the rim? Look at who is not a guard that played last night—Looney Lee JTA and the young Wiseman. They aren’t stopping anyone.
And while we’re at it, the nonsense twitter guru could make that statement about nearly every team in every NBA game, especially for anyone playing Denver. Jokic has triple double dang near every night and so does James Harden and L Doncic doing the same thing. Singling out Kerr is off base.
uh, Jokic, Harden and Doncic are a little different than Richard Holmes or whatever his name is
Holmes is really good. Who are big men on Jersey and Dallas? What I’m saying is no one can defend what those teams do either out of screen and roll, which is why everyone else does it. If you want to fire Kerr then you might as well fire half the rest of NBA head coaches because imo most of em can’t hold his clipboard.
Jersey?
ha sorry! first word comes to mind about Nets still.
Ha, there are some announcers — Hubie Brown in particular, sometimes Van Gundy — who still call them Jersey.
Honestly, I watch less NBA than in any season I can remember. I can’t even watch Warriors full games when they are doing well with Curry going off and winning. College ball is more interesting to me; I fully intended to watch Giants game instead last night, but it was radio only. At least I got to see tremendous effort from D Fox and I watched all of it, he was spectacular and I’d recommend any young player follow how much better he is now and how he has worked to get to where he is now and what he can do.
Giants btw are on today locally vs. Cubs, 1 PM iirc.
College teams use big men in the post, low and high, vs. zone or man defense and I like that a lot. Less egos, variety of defenses (wish NBA would dump D 3 second rule and allow full on zones) and offensive sets run, and more real coaching. You can’t tell me NBA coaches (new or retreads like Doc Rivers or Van Gundy) really have much to do with success (or failure) of team–either you have talent and players motivated to get better at their game or you don’t.
the fucking Kings scored 141 last night. It’s absurd you would try to defend Kerr but not surprising since you defend all coaches.
The warriors scored 113, good enough on lot of nights to win. They didn’t because Fox lit up whomever was guarding him including Mannion and Poole and he had lot of help from hot shooting Halliburton. It was their night to be on and Warriors are not strong team defensively. My take is minus Green they are lot worse than normal across the board–due to lack of talent. You can take level of players talent only so far and imo Warriors are severely lacking in talent as a team to begin with–minus Curry and Green they are pretty well doomed.
I hardly defend all coaches dunno where you get that. Tyronn Lue was clueless when he had Cavs (and Warriors kicked his ass with LBJ) and still is. Never been fan of Doc or Spoelstra, or D’Antoni or Celts and Sixers guys either.
No idea why so much focus on one meaningless NBA game out of 70 when Giants are week away from Opening day and still trying to solidify who will be on roster for that.
well, I wanted the Dubs to win that game more than most. For one, it was quite winnable. For two, there are a lot of Kings fans here at The Flap
Here come the Kings; 2 games out! 🙂
i’m not a big Sacto fan in general
I wouldn’t blame Kerr for anything. Curry and Green were out, and when the Kings have their act together, they can compete pretty well. They defeated the Celtics and the Hawks this past week.
MEH. Wasn’t even aware. I don’t watch much NBA. Game has lost its luster for me. I would rather watch college hoops. Same is true with football to a large degree. NFL games have lost their flow.
Baseball is right around the corner, and while we may not be as stacked as the Bums and Friars, I think the team will be fun to watch. Screw the NBA…play ball (baseball)!
Double ditto between you and willedav’s takes.
Last NBA game I took in was watching Elgin Baylor play for the Minneapolis Lakers in winter of 59-60 at the Minneapolis Armory. Cost me real silver money—75 cents in a Washington quarter and a Standing Liberty half dollar. Wish I still had those coins. But I guess sitting about 30 feet from the action for less than a buck was worth the investment.
Give me baseball or give me whatever the fuck.
It has been “a bit longer” since you took-in an NBA game, Stix.
That #10 playoff spot in the NBA West could be in play. The Kings are 2 games out from it, but it kind of hangs there like a mirage. The Warriors, with Curry and Green in the lineup, should nail that down. And then Curry could take the Warriors on a fun ride in the playoffs.
The champion, though, will likely be from the group: Lakers, Jazz, Trailblazers, 76ers, or Nets.
I watched the Blazers-Nets couple nights ago, I don’t see Portland in that mix. They’re a dumb team. Had a big man Kanter who the Nets could not stop, yet all they did was chuck 3’s for entire game. And that’s nothing new, they’re 2nd in 3 attempts in NBA.
i think the Lakers are done. They are going to slide down to a bottom rung seed, that team is built to do shit without Lebron there as the center piece. When he does come back the road through the playoffs will be daunting from whatever bottom seed they get.
Portland getting Norman Powell was an underrated move.
I’ve disliked the coaching by Doc Rivers over the years mainly because he does a huge amount of ref-baiting during games. All coaches do it to an extent, but with Rivers it seems like it’s almost non-stop. It’s as irritating as players that do it a lot. I wish the NBA didn’t allow as much sniping at refs as it does. MLB and the NFL don’t tolerate much of it, but the NBA allows a lot of it. And it’s inconsistent. Some refs allow more than others. The superstar players are allowed more than other players.
hear you Zum. superstar favoritism something else I hate about NBA and its been there since at least Magic days, unlike college. LBJ is large very powerful man and no ticky tack arm swipe by smaller guy is gonna bother him driving to hoop yet he always gets these calls and whines when he doesn’t
. Sniping a refs by Green bothers me too and detracts from all the other things, like defense and unselfishness with ball, that he brings to game every night. The extended ranting he does at officials during FTs isn’t something you would accept from younger players, ever. But it gets excused away as part of emotional fire he brings to team.
fangraphs finished OF ratings. Giants are 6th NL for RF with Yaz (9th overall) and 9th NL in LF right behind Dodgers with Pollock and Taylor. guy doing ratings spoke highly of Dickerson/Slater combo and thought both could be around for a while in Kapler’s platoon. And while he didn’t think late blooming Yaz would be in MVP convo like last season, still likes him a lot.
I don’t watch much college basketball anymore for some reason. Literally the last complete game I watched was one that I went to. A few years ago I went with some folks to a women’s March Madness regional game at Univ. of Pacific, in Stockton. I saw South Carolina defeat Florida State. SC went on to eventually win the championship that year, and their best player is in now in the WNBA.
days ’til Opening Day!
The results of all that shoveling are clear.
Impressive traps on the Grave Duggar.
He’ll be back up by Memorial Day…
In NCAA men’s hoops, the one-and-one player thing is irritating to me. I’m irritated at the universities about it, not the players.
“one-and-done,” I meant.
Do you think they now recruit with this arrangement as an incentive?
Only guys ahead of Yaz for RF in NL according to fangraphs are named Betts, Soto, Acuna and Harper. Hope they keep him until replacement OFs are ready for MLB.
So if Z is able to parlay a trade involving him to improve the team – you’re against it? Please explain . . . Yaz is near his peak as a player and just my take, you trade him while his value is high, especially on a bad team, such as ours. In fact, you yourself said:
“And while he didn’t think late blooming Yaz would be in MVP convo like last season, still likes him a lot.”
In effect, his peak might have been last season and he’s quickly approaching his “milk pass due date.” Interesting take Willie.
Brisbee Athletic article that will make your heart sing, Blade.
“Add it all up, and it could be a ludicrously busy July. The individual success of all these players certainly isn’t guaranteed, and the Giants could mess all of it up by actually winning baseball games. But the players they have, the contracts they’re on, the competition they face and the short-term organizational blueprint all point to an active trade deadline.”
Only if they’re willing to eat some cash, I think.
Guess it depends on the usual supply and demand…
Thank you James . . . Unfortunately, I do not pay/subscribe to the site.
Disagree with your take on YaZmaTaz. Late bloomer and with a body style that usually holds up well into late 30’s—but iffy for CF and tenuous for RF. The bat should be good for another 5-6. May segue into DH in 3-4.
well, if you take Yaz, their best hitter by far, out of the lineup every day you aren’t improving the team in near future, which is something I care about. What you are doing is guessing on a prospect or two, which might improve the team at some point down the road, or not. The guy who did the evaluations for F/G still thinks he is a very good player right now…for some reason you don’t, and I disagree with that.
“You can’t tell me NBA coaches (new or retreads like Doc Rivers or Van Gundy) really have much to do with success (or failure) of team–either you have talent and players motivated to get better at their game or you don’t.”
Someone who spends more than a little time coaching declaring that the guy making in-game decisions doesn’t matter much in basketball, an actual team sport . . . I’m totally down with this, of course. Now, get to work on simulating Boch’s manly, plain spoken intelligence and understated humor, Kap. Focus on the important stuff.
NY media is gushing over “Tibs”…
At the unique level of NBA, James. Kerr’s problem to me is lack of enough talent on roster, not his ability to coach it. Given injuries to key players, they aren’t any better or worse than should be.
“If you’re growing a garden, you need to pull out the weeds, but flowers will die if all you do is pick weeds. They need sunshine and water. People are the same.”
“We have a lot of players in their first year. Some of them are also in their last year.”
“Someone will declare, “I am the leader!” and expect everyone to get in line and follow him or her to the gates of heaven or hell. My experience is that it doesn’t happen that way. Unless you’re a guard on a chain gang, others follow you based on the quality of your actions rather than the magnitude of your declarations.”
Greatest coach and GM said this. True yesterday, today, and forever in my opinion.
Cool Hand Luke led by his own set of standards over both guards and chain gang members. He defied reform his whole life and earned respect the hard way by playing both sides of the fence.
I think Luke defied authority. He had an atlas sized chip on his shoulder.
Just settlin’ old scores…
Mostly
Wow. Niners trade for the #3 pick in the 2021 draft, giving up their 12 pick, a 3rd round comp pick, and next year’s 1st round pick.
They are going all-in to get a QB. Fuckin’ A. Things are getting nuts. The NFC West is gonna be pretty damn tough in a couple years. Unless the Pats throw the sink at the Niners, I think they play Jimmy G this year, and see how he does.
Yeah, I think jimmy stays the year because the new guy needs to learn the system which I believe is rather complicated. Or we trade Jimmy get some picks and throw Rosen out there. Mullens probably won’t be ready at the start of the year.
Mullens ain’t coming back. We got Rosen, Jimmy G and the draft pick. Word is they may go with Trey Lance. Wilson apparently has some character flaws. He’s Johnny Manziel without the blow.
Unless the Jets have other plans we are not aware of, everything I read is they are taking Wilson. I have heard of NO issues about Wilson.
Agree with others…Jimmy G plays with the Niners this year and helps groom the QB they take in the draft.
The Niners obviously have a hard-on for someone at the third pick.
Intriguing…
Hope it isn’t Fields. Not impressed with him…especially with that kind of draft capital to land him. I don’t know much about Lance, but he has shot-up the draft chart.
“Do you think they now recruit with this arrangement as an incentive?”
I read somewhere that Caliperi does that at Kentucky. He recruits the great player with both he and the player clear with each other that they know it’s going to be one-and-done.
“Greatest coach and GM said this”
Bill Walsh?
Vince Lombardi?
Tony LaRussa? (kidding)
It’s hard to imagine Red Auerbach getting that philosophical.
I can’t see Auerbach coming up with “magnitude of your declarations.”
Walsh Zum. Read his book. It’s good. He was what many call a “people person” (I hate that term). But it’s true. At the same time, he got rid of players before they stunk up the joint. He said this about Montana and Young:
“Steve Young would be my “contingency plan” in the event that Joe (Montana) faltered. This was a very controversial move that many, including Montana, were not very happy. None of them, however, was charged with principal responsibility for charting the future of the team. That was my job – planning for fair and foul weather.”
Obviously, I can’t be certain, but I am hoping Z is like this.
Love this move by the Niners—be bold. They gotta hit on this QB but it’s a great move, IMO
Yep. I really didn’t think they’d do this, but I think all the hooraw around Deshaun Watson brought this about.
Love the move, but it is a pretty big gamble. I just hope the Pats throw some draft picks at us for Jimmy G.
As much as I would like to see our newly minted QB sit a year, if we can get a 1st round pick back, that would be huge. Hey, I could stomach a year of Cam Newton . . .
Hey u have to show a set of brass balls like Bill Walsh use too if u want to succeed.Walsh was a true genius manipulating the draft up are down are fleecing teams Buc’s(Steve Young) and always cutting a guy a year Earl then a year to late philosophy, which is absolutely the right approach. This move by Shanny&Lynch moving up to #3 is also the right move in a unsettled QB situation ( perfect scenario to learn behind Jimmy G for a year too)As much as I want Zach Wilson he’s probably going to the Jets at 2 so come on down Justin Fields over Trey Lance..
Shit Miami is going Crazy like Kevin Costner in Draft Day!
They now have..
2021..2 First rd picks
2022..2 First rd picks
2023..2 First rd picks
triple fuck Justin Fields. Name the last Ohio St QB that didn’t suck. They’re like Stanford players who get drafted high, they almost never work out
So you want a kid that played one game last year at North fucking Dakota St are fat fuck not mobile QB in Mac Jones? U don’t move up to number 3 taking either one of them..
Agree on the OSU QBs Flav. Fuck no on Fields.
Kat –
Lance has been shooting up the draft list. Some have him going 3 or 4.
I would prefer Wilson, but unless the Jets have another plan (taking an O-lineman), he won’t be there at 3.
Willie regarding what you said above, “. . . for some reason you don’t, and I disagree with that.”
I didn’t say that at all. Read what I wrote. I was very clear. I indicated that BEFORE Yaz’s performance goes significantly downhill, we should try to get maximum value while he is still worth something. We’re talking about a 31 year old ball player (and I respectfully submit that Carstie is dreaming if he thinks “The bat should be good for another 5-6.”). That (31) is OLD IN THE POST STEROID ERA.
Per James, that article he quoted from The Athletic seems to agree with me, i.e., July will be an optimum time to get rid of some of the bore core and others on the team should their performance be such that other teams want to improve their chances of contending for the stretch drive. Us? We’re not contending for squat, so I am hoping Z can parlay Yaz, bore core, etc., for players whom can help us next season or future draft choices. However, you need to ask James exactly what specifics this author is outlining.
Look, we disagree on philosophy. I just don’t get a warm and fuzzy feeling about keeping players around when their last hurrah was years ago (talking about the bore core). Anyway, if others agree with Willie’s take, chime in.
Brisbee isn’t someone I agree with often. I think trading away a good player like Yaz ultimately it’s unlikely you wind up getting anyone as good in long run.F/G gas him top 30 percent at his position in all baseball. Dumping him off for a wannabe down the road and playing lesser talents, not into it.
The Brisbee article wasn’t promoting a trade fest, just explaining why it’s likely and who’s a good target. Top of the list were the bullpen guys.
Zach Wilson’s pro day was today, and supposedly he impressed…looking really good. Jet’s GM, Saleh, and offensive coordinator were all there. A scout who was at the pro day said the Jets intend to take Wilson.
That means it is either Fields or Lance. Fuck no on Fields. Not sure I like the trade, but trying to trust Lynch/Shanny on this move.
The Jets are all in on Wilson. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us take Lance. His issue is he struggles with the short passing game. Fields is more mobile, and hits the short passes. His issue is getting past the 1st read.
Again these guys are all a huge gamble. Even Lawrence. Though I would pick him above all the others.
I think the Niners would have gone after Watson had none of this massage-gate shit happened. He’s a known commodity that is young. You have to think the Texans are the ones pushing that agenda.
Agree…if the Niners had the chance to pick any, I would take Lawrence first. Then Wilson. Then Lance.
Also agree that all are a gamble. Still not sold on the trade.
Not too shabby. 50 yard pass on a dime moving left. Nice arm strength.
The kid has mad skills. Some think he is actually the better prospect than Lawrence.
Yeah I want Wilson for sure but know way Robert Saleh is going to help out his former team and not take him.
So if Shanny really believes in Lance’s overall upside in his run first pass 2nd system he could be the pick even if Fields is more polished..
another Slater ST tater, today
Slater-tater has him up to 10 Ribbies in ST. Six runs scored to boot. His OPS is a not too awfully bad 1.460, tops on the team. Fourth dinger may not match Tatis or Joc, but probably tops Giants. If he can stay healthy, the Slater/YazMaTaz/Dickerson crew could make for an OF that could tangle with the best of em.
Sorting out the pitching could take awhile, as Pederson owned Tropeano today, but hitting should not tail off from last year. Things are looking rough for the veteran 5th outfielder as Belt started yesterday and may be ready for at least part-time duty at !B by the opener.
Team is looking more and more like they’re emanating signs of a .500 season what with their 10-10 WL record and ties against Seattle and Cubbies in their last two contests. Contending looks like a pipedream, but so does rolling over and just being somebody’s bitch pushover. Bore-Core likely wants to go down in a blaze of glory and guys like Slater and the newly acquired and younger pitchers have something to prove.
Giants will be entertaining in ’21. It’s for real in one short week. Then we can say fuck the NBA, a truly stoopid sport and not half as interesting as highschool basketball.
Yeah in there is Joc Pederson in the same game who could of looked good in orange&black with 2 Homers today 4 RBI’s
7 HR’s in ST with 16 RBI’s
If Joc is hotter than blazes in the heat, sand and dust neighborhood, maybe the Snakes should make an offer—or should have made one of those offers that could not be refused. How he might fare in the cool, humid air of the Bay is up for debate.
The UCLA men’s coach Cronin has some things to say about high school players skipping college to go directly to the NBA G League.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/31141752/ucla-bruins-mick-cronin-blasts-nba-g-league-recruit-daishen-nix%3fplatform=amp
This is the kind of stuff the NCAA probably doesn’t want said out loud.
“On a videoconference with reporters earlier this week, Cronin described college basketball as a “free farm system for 40 years for the NBA” and touted its superior benefits for player development”
I could give a rat’s ass about the elite college scholarship athletes. For the majority of scholarship athletes, a full ride scholarship is an UNBELIEVABLE DEAL. For the small minority of athletes whom have no interest in an education, fuck them . . . they’re idiots anyway, e.g., we’ve all heard the horror stories of them blowing their NBA, NFL, etc., fortunes on bling and other bullshit investments. Why? Mostly because they are uneducated.
https://collegead.com/scholarship-athletes/
Kerr overrated? Please. Take any team and remove their 3 best players. Their 2 best defenders. During a pandemic. See how well they do.
Mark Jackson coached the same team to the 6th playoff spot and a first round exit. A year later Kerr won it all with basically the same team. And went to 5 straight finals. No mean feat. He may not reach those heights again, or even win another championship, but saying Kerr is overrated is like saying Bochy was lucky.
The more I think about this, the more I think w are going after Lance.
Just a thought but what if the 49ers really want Zach Wilson but knew no way the Jets would move down to 12,so they make this move up to 3 and now offer the Jets your 2nd round pick to only switch one spot and the Jets could still draft Fields,Lance are just stick with Darnold and take the best available player on defense are offense.Either way they go if there not totally sold on Wilson they have plenty of options and they add a 2nd rd pick..
Dozen Kusshi osyters on the half shell, 3 olive Fords gin martini, grilled burgers with a Cabernet. Why can’t there be a Giants game tonight?
There is an intriguing Warriors game.
😐
lulz.
Well, it’s intriguing to me. I need the Warriors, unfortunately, to lose.
If Wiseman didn’t look like a goofy ass major bust, I’d be more interested.
Why I love Mrs. James: After I suggest Trey may have a high “basketball IQ” for getting all those free throws, she asks “But how’s his Euro-Step?”
Very nice.
Wiseman with the euro step back 3 that was a two.
Does anyone else see Chairman Mao tattooed on KO’s shoulder? Apologies for misspelling Trae.
I really wish I was watching a 3.5 hour Giants snooze fest right now….
You can always watch the A’s pounding Kershaw!
You certainly are all set up for that with ample food & beverages… but don’t worry, you’ll get your chance… 🙂
I know, by mid-May I’ll probably be checking my Letterboxd watch list for better prospects by hour 1.5.
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao…
https://bodyartguru.com/kelly-oubre-jr-tattoos/
Fascinating, lot of Nola stuff. thanks.
Read something somewhere where someone did some research asking people what their tatts in Chinese characters meant, and a vast majority had no idea.
Kelly does know that if Jesus were alive today he’d love every last Misfit.
All I can say is i HATE this trade. 2 number 1s and a 3rd to move up to draft a total guess.
My brother texted me this info..
In the last 10 years teams have traded to move up to the top 3 to draft a QB 5 times.
RGIII, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, Mitch Trubisky, and Sam Darnold.
Only Darnold is still with his original team. Not good odds for us. AUGH!!!
It is risky and probably a defining moment for both Lynch and Shanny. They must really see something to pull that trigger.
Well, that’s like saying Justin Fields will suck because of Art Schlichter.
Lamar Jackson worked for the Ravens. KC traded up for Patrick Mahomes as well. Sure, they weren’t top 3 but they were 1st rounders.
Giant gamble? Yep. But they are in the toughest division ad need better QB play. After seeing this, I’m pretty sure they were going after Watson had the shit-storm not hit him.
Good comment . . . I tend to agree with you mrsprtdude.
Baggs has Wade Jr. making Opening Day roster with Belt on IL. Also said SF can back date it so he only misses first 2 series on road vs. M’s and Pads, then gets activated for home opener. At which time Wade is gone.
They have the DH the first three games, it’ll be interesting to see who they use. My guess is Longo for at least two games.
yeah exactly, Longo to DH til he’s ready to play 3b.
While out walking yesterday, thought about travails of Butch Beard (guy I really liked out of Louisville and Warriors) and that beef with Derrick Coleman while coaching Nets over wearing sport coats/suits in road as team rule or be fined. Coleman reportedly took out his checkbook and handed a blank one to Beard, and told him to fill in amount.
Ha, I forgot about that story. Yeah, that Coleman team was a tough gig for Beard. Speaking of coaches, did you see Stan Albeck died? He was Nets coach in ’84 when they knocked off defending champ Sixers in first round.
oh shoot didn’t see that about Albeck. Gotta look those teams up, Nets and Philly lot of good players in those days.
Willie, I don’t understand why Vosler was optioned the other day if Belt is going to be on the IL? Any idea why? Stupid in my opinion, as Vosler was doing fairly well in spring training.
Think Baggs said that Seattle is set to throw 3 LHSPs in series vs. SF, so Flores and Ruf would get lions share of at bats at 1b . Vosler was interesting, seems like better player overall than Wade Jr. Might also have something to do with getting him more regular ABs (alt site BP and once ST is over and AAA ball starts up) vs. sitting a lot if he was up with SF.
A bit mysterious about Vosler though he started to slide back and his K’s are up to 15 and now Wadejr is close with him in OBP and has a couple of bombs.Plus he’s a Zman/Kapler’s latest project they probably feel has a better chance overall to take pitches and get on base more then Vosler. They also need more outfield depth then infield depth I believe.Though the real depth is needed at SS where I’m not thrilled about having Dubon play there when Craw needs a blow.I predicted the other day Wade jr would make the team, looks like it’s coming to fruition.
Good comments Willie and AK (coupled with what Mac said about using the DH for first 3 games, which I don’t understand – I thought the DH wasn’t going to happen in the NL this season? Without looking at the schedule, are they playing an AL team to start the season?).
Blade, yes, Giants open in Seattle for first three games.
Yeah Mac I remember 84 Nets. Was playing great board game with buddies in those days. O Koren Gminski Dawkins Otis B Albert King Kelvin Ransey Foots Walker Micheal Ray…
funny, one year I won our league with Nellie’s Bucks, the guys that knocked Nets off. That team was loaded with good defensive guys and boards, plus shooters like Marques J Junior Bridgeman and Winters, plus Moncrief. Just couldn’t get by Bird and Celts.
and the young Buck Williams. In board game Nets struggled to score if Birdsong was off. Plus he wasn’t too good defensively iirc.
https://nypost.com/2021/03/27/fans-shelling-out-big-bucks-for-yankees-mets-home-openers/
Unless you’ve recently peeked, I would challenge anyone here to name 3 current Seattle Mariners.
I can’t name one…
Good one. don’t they also have SS named Crawford? good looking kid, first name Jordan I think.
giants played them last year, but yeah I don’t remember them either.
I think it’s J.P. Crawford, originally a Phillies pick, I may have seen play for their Lakewood (NJ) A team.
They still have Kyle Seager, I think. The Opening Day starter is Gonzales, not sure of first name. They have the Rookie of the Year, but I can’t remember his name. After that, uhhhh . . .
Such an exciting interleague match-up! 🙂
Yeah Seager&JP Crawford for sure. They have a outfielder from the Bay Area (Mountain View) named Mitch Haniger still I believe?
I’m challenged by knowing who’s on this year’s Giants team.
Lulz.
Kat’s right Haniger is local kid, from Archbishop Mitty of WCAL in San Jose and played college ball at Cal Poly, Krukow’s alum.
Man Beavs just beat full court man press with long inbound pass for layup slam for Ethan thompson. Love to do that if pressing team does not have safety at half court. Send someone long off jab step and there’s no one left to beat.
Pac 12 first into elite 8 as Beavs knock out Ramblers.
Amazing run for Oregon St to reach the elite 8, considering they would of not been in if they didn’t win the PAC 12 championship..Good for them and the PAC 12 teams so far!
The beavers had to clam up all activity for a while back in Jan. They got back to work though, banging the ball with zeal. Personally, I’m glad to see another holy roller team get crucified. Oral next.
Romo pitching for the As right now. Oakland announcer intro’d him as “the slider master.” Hell, it was fosse. Smartest comment that guy ever made.
does A’s broadcast team have someone in charge of keeping Fosse upright and awake?
Or does he only put listeners to sleep?
He’s a color man. I’m sure he’s got a gig only because he’s exorbitantly cheap. I doubt they pay anyone to help him. They probably just have cattle prods in his chair.
Ray Fosse is in a continual comatose state where only Dr.McCoy using a stimulant hypo can get a reaction out of him..
Romo! The slider master! Man, that felt good. Just settle down, Ray. We’ll do it again in a minute or two. Yeah. Settle down. Ok. Thanks.
I don’t think a 15-11 April is out of the question…
https://www.mlb.com/giants/schedule/printable-schedule-2020
mm 2 extra Ws vs. woeful rockies would turn 13-13 (my guess) into your 15-11.
2001 opened at home and closed at home. (Bonds 73; we were there m.) my brother in law investment banker used to give me tickets his sports fan tough guy investment banker consortium asshole colleagues didn’t want. Fucking wimps. The aids quilt day? My son and I were there, because they flinched. Pink bat day? Yeah. Last day of the season? Always a lock. (What’re the chances that game will count?) Four choice seats, guaranteed. Being wise investment assholes, the dumbfuck bankers dissolved their consortium about the time Bochy got hired to ride herd on a rebuild. At some point, the giants decided they’d probably make more money if they pushed home field opening day as far behind rainy season as they could. Of course Larry Baer is to blame.
Baer’s obsession to always start on the road pisses me off!
What good is finishing at home when your toast by then and the revenue won’t be there due to the pandemic and fewer fans in the park?
6 games on the road to start with the last 3 in SD I’m thinking 2-4 at best..
May’s schedule looks brutal with 19 road games and only 9 at home..
Did get clincher in 2010 at home (thx Johnny Sanchez!), which kinda set things in motion, no?
Giants game is about to start on the MLB Network.
Arkansas hangs on in another thriller 72-70..
Great job milking the clock to get a good look 2 for the winner..
Though amazingly Abmas their top scorer got a good look at the horn for a possible game winning 3 but hit the front of the rim! Great exciting game to the end!
MLB is giving a thought to moving this season’s All-Star game from Atlanta because of the new voter laws passed in Georgia.
I think Atlanta just signed Pablo. No?
Yeah, and I believe he made the final roster.
Baseball needs to look at its own voting fraud problems.
Alan Trammell has been mispronouncing his last name for over 60 years.
While cooking bison burgers I see the full moon rise. Damn this country club view.
These Seattle commentators have me convinced the Mariners will be a powerhouse for years to come!
I love all that broadcaster optimism of all the teams. Spring, renewal, all of that.
The Giants are not awesome tonight.
They have not slowed the pace of play with too many base runners. So far, I give them a barely passing grade in Aesthetics.
I don’t see any resemblance between the 2 Trammel’s..
This Trammel is killing the Giants knocking in 4 runs , 2 after the Giants butchered an easy pop up in foul territory and the next pitch 2 run bomb for Taylor Alan Trammel..
The Giants have struck out approximately a zillion times tonight.
They’ve taken over the lead for most K’s in spring training!
Strike outs do not quicken pace of play. They are slow torturous at-bats.
It’s the dawdling pitcher and the constant stepping out of the box that make it so agonizing.
Same old shit that would be so easy to fix…
But we are only a little over 2 hours into the game — I’m keeping my eye on the big picture. This could be a 2:45 game with a few more quick Ks by SF.
A 2:48 game that felt like 3:48.
Well, yes, it’s never any fun when your team has 3 hits and Ks 20 times … which has happened how often to the Giants since you’ve been a fan? But the Mariners did their part to help bring back the good old days by putting the ball in play, so cheer up!
Kings won, barely, against a not-very-good Cavs team. Good to get a win, but it’s the same old consistency issue.
This little fact surprised me.
“Puig is the all-time leader in postseason appearances for the Dodgers with 58.”
