A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

San Diego Looms

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 5, 2021

Now that we are done losing to pitiful Seattle we get our first true test of the season: 3 vs San Diego. I mostly want to just see us compete. If we get blown out 3 straight that will be a bad sign of things to come. We have 36 games vs these two vastly superior NL West teams. If we want to keep our win total in the 70s we need to figure out a way to compete in those games……

The plague of solo home runs has returned.

Donnie Barrels got his BA back to an even .500 with that single against a very tough reliever.

Longo went oppo on an outside pitch but got BBIPed by Myers. Tough luck even joins the parades of Giants not able to come through with RISP.

By Kap logic, since he pinch-hit Belt for Flores vs. RHP, why not also pinch-hit LaStella for Longo?

    • xoot said, on April 5, 2021 at 9:57 pm

there’s plenty of time to get LaStella going

Nice 10 pitch outing by El Chubbo. Good to see him back in the groove. He could again become a real asset in late innings.

        El Chubbo is too kind

Kap’s substitution gambit may have been predicated as much on Belt being a superior defender as it was with the usual logic of the R-L shift. The latter would have had been fine a bit later in the season when Brandon reacquaints himself with his mojo.

That part of it (defense) I get.

I’m surprised to see Machado grow into a real veteran role. His skill was never a question; his character was. He’s improved, I think. He may be more important to SD than Tatis.

BBIP victim #2 Buster. Capping a 9 pitch foul-off he lines one to the LFer.

oh my favorite reliever, Rogers, is in.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:20 pm

If there’s a preferable spot for Mr Rogers to be facing, it’s the bottom on the lineup. He was an overmatch for Mateo, but was read well by that pest Myers.

    Myers bunting: Thank you.

LaStella becomes at least the third BBIP lineup victim.

That delay did not help McGee

  11. Carstie Clausen said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:37 pm

In an 8 pitch-off McGee wins the battle of the Jakes. He pumped his Jake-brake.

  12. Winder said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:42 pm

He certainly didn’t want to pitch to Machado

  13. alleykat69 said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:44 pm

    Are Hosmer by hitting him..

  14. Winder said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:46 pm

    Looks like he’s losing it

  15. Macdog said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:47 pm

Never a doubt ! Ballgame! Exhale!

Buster really is a great catcher. He guided McGee through that nightmare.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:50 pm

Last year that would have been a for-sure loss. Even if it costs em, Buster should get one more year just for tonight’s effort.

    • Winder said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:53 pm

Yeah, Buster is showing his worth.

  19. Carstie Clausen said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:49 pm

MAJOR LEAGUE nail-biter. Jake threw almost nothing but four-seamers. With 3 ball count + 1 measly strike, I was thinking “just let him try and hit the ball.”

  20. James said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:52 pm

Maybe they’ve been bringing in the dead ball when the Giants pitch. 2 HRs so far. May it continue for a while longer.

    • xoot said, on April 5, 2021 at 10:57 pm

Ah they just saw a buncha mooks. Thingsll tighten up you just watch n see

Lacking the presence of their flamboyant shortstop, the Pads look a bit bald-headed on offense. From what I observed, their bench appears a bit weak. This season their key player could be Cronenworth. He was really impressive tonight and he halfway managed to wear McGee down to the point that it was the Korean sub who was in the two hole and Pham as the guy he had to get out. Their bullies do not look spectacular. They might become a good trade candidate for some team who could use their #2 in one of the field positions where SD is strong.

As for injuries, though, particularly happening vs the Giants, it sure would have been more satisfactory had we been facing the LaBumbos tonight. The Dagos have been down for long enough and LA buys up every star in sight and are getting cockier than a Buff Orpington rooster. That’s not to say I wouldn’t want to beat SD in every game,up to, but not including in the last week of the season when they are in a hot race to the finish against the usual suspects.

All Star game moved to Denver. Can players opt out?

  23. djloo27 said, on April 6, 2021 at 4:25 am

3:35 and 12 pitchers needed to play a 3-2 game.
Somewhere in there I faded away.
Good pregame call by Stix on Yaz…
