A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

A Big Flavor Type Of Weekend

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 9, 2021

KNBR was reporting there are still tickets available for all the games this weekend. I briefly entertained the idea of going to a game but, eh, I’m still pretty set in my pandemic ways. It’s not time yet.

Well I’m glad I took the time to trash the Beatles yesterday because had I neglected to do so we would have been deprived of some all time Flap stories, especially the ones told by Bozo and Stix.

Luckily we don’t have to hear anything more about the Beatles today because it’s back to baseball.

It’s impossible to not be pleasantly shocked by the early returns of our starting pitching. Our SP has been like if you told me you were about to play me a new Beatles song and I was like “Don’t do it they are fucking terrible” and then you played it anyway but before I could reign blows down upon you I decide I actually love the song……

The hitting: sucks

Matt Wisler: triple sucks

I’m excited for a weekend of baseball and The Masters and maybe a pick 4 or two thrown in. Let the glory commence.

That new TJ arm working well now for Shimmy!

Quick work Jake. Had him swingin like the proverbial barn-door. At 118 pitches Cueto was dragging a bit, so Kap’s decision was correct. One helluva start by Johnny B. Goode, who just might be on the cusp of resurrecting his career back to the level of promise SF saw when they first took him on. Offense was cold till Buster broke the ice with his single. Wonderful to see CrawDaddy get into the groove when it was needed the most. Nice win, as in a total shocker Giants starters now must be close to the top of the board for ERA.

They have 6-7 starting players all under the Mendoza line.so there winning by good pitching and defense with the one timely hit right now..

    Nice win.

Wow, that was a quick one by today’s standards and Cueto one out from a complete game. Thought I’d get home to catch the last couple innings, didn’t happen, but as long as it’s a W it’s all good.

The SP is going to fade but it’s so fun to watch *old school* baseball like this. Starting pitchers shouldn’t be relegated to afterthoughts or piggybacks or any of that other bullshit. Starting pitching is a cornerstone of the game. How can that not be important anymore?

    • djloo27 said, on April 9, 2021 at 7:13 pm

Maybe cause they’re so injury prone these days?

      • Flavor said, on April 9, 2021 at 7:52 pm

they are systematically destroying that part of the game. Trotting a bunch of relievers out there throwing gas for an inning over and over is what they want. That is not what we want. Two stud SP’s battling it out is what the game is all about.

Prospects for the Giants rotation took a great upwards leap today with Cueto’s shimmering, shimmying performance. Gausman has pitched like an ace. Disco has lived up to expectations. Sanchez has been a pleasant surprise. Webb works on coming into his own. Wood is perhaps a week away from returning, as per recent reports. Though he was acquired to be a starter, it is possible that he will be eased back via a longman role. So far, the starters have exceeded expectations…fortunately so because the offense has relied on solo-shot taters, no recipe for success.

Today’s brief excursion into chorus-line land may be a sign of spring. Let’s hope so. If SF’s OBP is steadily higher than the bulk of our opponents, the team could be a pleasant surprise.

our offense is a joke and is being exposed. Our SP has no chance of continuing this run. We will be lucky to win 70 games.

The Padres finally have a no-hitter! Joe Musgrove throws a no-no vs. the Rangers at Arlington.

I actually envy you all being able to get vaccinated, despite the obvious discomfort involved. On one hand, living in Vietnam during this whole thing has been amazing in how they’ve controlled it and we’ve been pretty free and open all along. But they are nowhere on vaccines (still doing trials??) and say maybe end of Fall most people should be vaccinated. Meaning, I can’t go anywhere (including a long overdue US visit) until that happens. And yet they’re talking about opening international borders in July, without the citizens being immunized. I got a bad feeling about this mission…. Ah no. But I do wish I could get poked in the arm as you all now are doing….. Good luck, stay safe.

Fucking Kerr doesnt foul with 12 seconds and a 3 point lead. Brilliantly Wiggins fouls on a 3 point shot to give up a 4 point play. Dubs lose. This scenario happens all the time and teams consistently do t foul in that situation.

    • Macdog said, on April 9, 2021 at 9:32 pm

I used to be on the fence about what to do up 3 late, but not anymore. There are too many players who getting even a decent look at a 3 might as well be a layup. Absolutely foul.

Kerr is proving to be not as brilliant a coach as i once thought he was. Not just for today. MLB has guys that can manage a veteran team but not develop players. Kerr is that guy.
GO GIANTS and thanks Chi for Tony bennet. This song warms my heart!

Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove throws a no-hitter tonight against the Rangers 3-0 !! 8,206 regular season games and the Padres end the jink of the last MLB team to throw a no hitter in franchise history..

that’s one I had. Neighbor did too and she has son in his late 50s–didn’t bother her either except for shoulder pain. Um, best advice for Loo would be drink plenty of liquids!

mlb.com site has story (on injuries) says Alex Wood threw 3 innings vs. A’s at their alt site and will do so again soon. Giants are supposed to play them 4 times I’d read earlier, and Slusser on her twitter account had brief shot of Wilson hitting a HR. All you see is swing and him running around bases, not where ball lands or anything. Beat writers getting some kind of news or highlights from over there, though not much said.

But obviously stuff is happening in these games…which could possibly be of interest to those invested in certain player(s) over there.
