A Big Flavor Type Of Weekend
KNBR was reporting there are still tickets available for all the games this weekend. I briefly entertained the idea of going to a game but, eh, I’m still pretty set in my pandemic ways. It’s not time yet.
Well I’m glad I took the time to trash the Beatles yesterday because had I neglected to do so we would have been deprived of some all time Flap stories, especially the ones told by Bozo and Stix.
Luckily we don’t have to hear anything more about the Beatles today because it’s back to baseball.
It’s impossible to not be pleasantly shocked by the early returns of our starting pitching. Our SP has been like if you told me you were about to play me a new Beatles song and I was like “Don’t do it they are fucking terrible” and then you played it anyway but before I could reign blows down upon you I decide I actually love the song……
The hitting: sucks
Matt Wisler: triple sucks
I’m excited for a weekend of baseball and The Masters and maybe a pick 4 or two thrown in. Let the glory commence.
Hey everybody! I’m sorry I still can’t post from my phone and I hate typing on my iPad. Well, I for one am going to opening day and I couldn’t be more excited. But I have a feeling that I’m going to be disappointed. The understandable restrictions have me feeling like the Oracle park experience is going to be affected negatively. Anyway let’s go Giants!
Way to go, Sarge. Bring home a winner.
Hey Brother – as mentioned previously, have a good time. Sure, it will be different that a typical opening day with packed stands, but probably better. Be safe, tip one or two for me, and bring us a big Giants win, Del. Also, as discussed, since you cannot post from your phone, shoot me any photos you want to share on the Flap.
“Well I’m glad I took the time to trash the Beatles yesterday because had I neglected to do so we would have been deprived of some all time Flap stories”
True, that was a positive result from that.
Yeah buddy, home opener, I’ll be chomping on beer brats today with a side of beer.
Almost always my go-to when at the yard…Sheboygan brat and brew baby! Enjoy the games, Clown.
Love the Sheboygan brats with the grilled onions but these are just some German brats from Trader Joes. Cook em a bit in butter, onion and beer, then put em on the grill to get ya some color. Put em back in the butter, onion and beer mix before serving em up. Good stuff. Cheers to ya, Chi. Have a good one today.
Will have to check-out the TJ brats. Sounds awesome. Enjoy the day and game, brother!
Day game (and all weekend), archways closed, Rockies in town…what could go wrong for Giants slumping hitters? Rox btw might not be as bad as AZ, whom they just beat again yesterday and who had Ketel Marte leave with injury.
Many signs pointing to AZ and Col being the bottom two teams in the NL West this year
I have tix to next Wednesday’s game, exactly two weeks after getting the J&J. Missing Gausman by a day, oh well. I’ll be happy to step inside the stadium again.
yes. That will be fun.
Cool. I have a friend who will be there, too. Asked me if I am interested. I just got my first jab of Pfizer last weekend. I want to wait until I am fully immunized. Have fun James…I cannot wait to be in the yard again.
Neither Story nor Blackmon did much despite 7 game (3-4) homestand. Story is hitting .226, Blackmon even worse at .174. Giants get Marquez Sunday but two guys ahead of him an easier target. At least we won’t have to see any more of Arenado. They might have something with Hampson and Tapia though.
Not much of Quincy Jones fan but he did do arranging on Ray Charles “Genius + Soul = Jazz” LP from 1961 on Impulse. 2 great bands, one with lot of Basie guys such as 2 Franks Wess and Foster, thad Jones Marshal Royal freddie Green and Sonny Payne for 6 cuts, and another 4 with drummer Roy Haynes and NY session guys. “I’ve Got News for You” is just outstanding song.
the famous interview with QJ continued, on Ringo. Seems Jones was producing part of a Ringo solo album and Ringo couldn’t get it going on one track. Jones decided to take a dinner break; Ringo left. Jones recorded the track with a drummer, a side musician there, he liked. Ringo returned from dinner and asked to hear what was last on the tape. He thought that sounded pretty good. Fuck yeah, it does, Jones told him. It’s not you.
Say what you will about the Beatles, and no they were never known for their musical chops, but Ringo was the guy that put them on the map. He is up there as one of the best pop drummers of all time. He fully brought out their pop sensibilities at the time they were trying to hit it big.
And no, I don’t listen to them all that much. Their stuff is too fluff for me. The Stones have always been much more intriguing and interesting. Exile, Beggar’s Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, are all extraordinary in their own ways.
Zepplin? Meh. Overdriven pre-pubescent white-boy blues to drive the young girls wild. Their only albums I can take to are Physical Graffiti and Presence. Their fairly experimental ones.
Wish I had been around to see the early Stones, Janis, Hendrix, and the Doors and such, but being here in the 70s through the 90s was epic for shows big and small.
In through the out door was just plain awful.
of all the drummers to come out of Britain back then, I have to admit that Ringo was probably better than Dave Clark.
Charlie Watts was last member of Stones and key get that solidified their sound, according to Keith Richards, right? He was guy with chops who could play any style.
Over the years, I’ve seen interviews with a lot of musicians who think Charlie Watts is one of the best. My hillbilly ear agrees. Mick on the maracas for their very early cover of Not Fade Away was ok, too. (Great cover of Buddy Holly’s song which itself was a cover/homage of/to Bo Diddley–now there’s some influence with a pedigree.)
one of my early faves was their cover of Sam Cooke’s “Good Times”. Still is.
Charlie Watts is an amazing drummer. You can really hear it on the live stuff.
WD I wore that track out when I was a kid.
I’m fully vaxxed, maybe Sunday. That would be cool.
Rox may be a bit surprising with their starter today…yet another one the Giants haven’t faced before…a condition under which they usually suck snakejuice. Guy’s name is Gomper or something like that…a 27 YO southpaw with a not too bad ERA record over 3 years in The Show. His K-BB ratio is only fair, so maybe the pitching coaches should preach contact…for the first few innings anyway.
Gomber is a LHP, so see who starts, though he might not be around long. Started (and took L) vs. Dodgers, faced 16 batters in 3 innings. Gave only one hit and one run, but um walked 7 throwing 73 pitches.
See what happens at sea level this afternoon!

Why isn’t Longoria starting at 3B??
Lineup looks reasonably well arranged and stronger top to bottom than that of the Rox.
“they were never known for their musical chops”
Actually Paul on bass and George on guitar were very respected musicians on their instruments, and still mostly are. And Paul and John became good self-taught pop-music piano players. They were all very humble about their musicianship. I agree that Ringo has always been underrated. Ringo had a lot of fun on “Rain.”
Paul has a chipped front tooth in the video. Right before the day of filming the song, he was in a moped accident, and hadn’t gotten the tooth fixed yet.
I’ll give you George, but Paul is dead.
I am jealous of anyone of you guys making the game today i bet it’s a beautiful day down there. today we actually have a bright blue sky up here. It makes you a little more restless with the covid though.
I think it’s cool they keep Murph on. Probably a Baer call, but still.
Murph is a clubhouse legend for over 60 years, he’s not going anywhere..
For doing fuckin’ laundry?
For doing Willie Mays’ laundry.
You use a fuckin apostrophe?
I did.
Found out Longoria had a side effect problem from his Vaccine 💉 shot ..
I had one shot the Moderna, no problem one more on the 4/17 though I’ve heard the second one could hit u harder then the first? Headache, fever, just feeling shitty for a Day are 2?
Anybody here have any issues after the second shot?
The vaccine after effects are going to disrupt things slightly.
not me. got second one at Levi’s, went smooth no after affects.
man what an anthem…glad I wasn’t holding a glass in front of tv screen.
Hope Giants are lot better than that today.
Show off…
Very emotional 😭
I got the Pfizer, and the first one was more bothersome. Lightheadedness and short of breath, but neither were very bad at all. The Oakland Coliseum drive thru thing was really well set up. 15 – 20 minute wait to get through the line, and 15 minute wait after the shot.
Got my second pfizer yesterday and so far so good.
Alright Bryan Stow!!
Truly inspiring moment throwing out the 1st pitch!
Go Giants!! Time to kick some Ass on to the Rockies!
End of that Story.
Meant for Trevor Story’s AB.
Efficient 12 pitch 1st for Cueto.
Ball dude cutouts actually move faster than the old farts manning the stools..
“…old farts manning the stools”
Kat, that’s the quote of the day in my book.
Thanks Bozo!
Good to see names back on the Giants jerseys, I was never a fan of not seeing their names. Was that a McGowan thing he wanted? The only players that probably didn’t want their names on their backs were the one that were struggling so the casual fan didn’t know who they were..
I hope Moronta is learning something about nutrition and fitness from Johnny.
Cueto is messing em up with changeups. Another efficient inning with 11 pitches.
Gomber’s killer pitch is that knuckle-curve which Melonhead has used to turn his career around. Ruf was his second victim in that groundout.
Wow. Hanging curve. Whiff.
Dubon is at least the third groundout on that knuckle-curve.
Hooooooooo doggies! Nice Johnny reflexes.
Third inning, two outs, pitcher up for the first time. Hey? Say what?
#3rd inning. 12 pitches. 35 over three IP. This one looks not so much of a pitcher’s duel as a hitters hangnail.
47 pitches through the 4th. Cueto’s efficiency rate, just under 12 pitches per inning. Now if Giants hitters could only get through that knuckle curve baller.
Knucklecurve gets DBarrels too. At least that one made it to the outfield.
KC roughs up Darin too. Like Donnie, he manages to loft it to the outfield. Is that progress or just progression?
Loved to have heard that convo btw Cueto and Posey.
shoot, followed by first hit.
“and just like that” says Miller and the DP ends that.
Turn two.
Just like that
You are quicker than me, Xoot. 🙂
Just like that.
Yessssss! Johnny B. Goode.
Whoop. DP (didn’t see it…listening on the radidio)…
Nothing like a pitchers best friend the DP.,
Started by Wilmet, over to Solano and back to Ruf, no less, flawlessly.
All right Giants lets get some runs.
Shit. That curve was 4″ off the ground.
Posey breaks up Goober Gomber no hit run.,
Come on Blue.
Whooooo. Some hard hit balls that frame.
got some great pics from Sarge at today’s game. Our offense sucks shit.
Pitch count through 6 at 79-86—7 pitch advantage to Cueto. Perhaps the 57 degree temp down by the bay has some effect, but those are two nasty performances by the hurlers. Who blinks first?
Grab some pine, Charlie!
helluva call but won’t miss Blackmon out of the lineup.
Yes.
Awesome delivery. Cueto really is one of a kind. Still throwing hard too, great 7th.
Ten pitch inning for Cueto. He doesn’t appear to be tiring through seven. But can those batters give him some support for his excellent outing?
Johnny boy cracks me up, throwing in a triple shimmy!
Waiting for the day he does a 360% Linda Blair head turn..
this reminds me of Charles Barkley trying to hit a golf ball but with better results.
Showing up the ump not smart by Gompers…
Rocks bringing in their 70s porn stache guy. It’s amazing the specialty pitchers teams carry these days.
Fuck yeah,
Fuck Yes! Craw…
Craw, yo the Daddy.
Yeah!!!
Glorious at bat by the Crawdaddy!!
When are the “experts” going to realize that those goalie style masks cause more harm than good?
Last complete game by Giants SP? man no idea here.
I do remember Mr. Hilliard though from Addams Family.
Ran for Mayor in one episode. they made a sign for him, “Everybody’s fiend.”
Great job, Johnny C.
wonderful 8th. rox didn’t get ball past mound entire inning.
Cueto has the Rockies eating out of his hand.
Does Kapler give him the 9th that’s the question.
You gotta let him go out there for at least 1 guy, don’t ya?
WTG Belt.
Posey loading em up.
Hope Kap lets Cueto start the 9th…
Remember when? Not too many years back the essentially punchless Giants played station to station baseball. This was the first occasion this season. Even though the result was a single insurance tally, it was nice to see them getting guys on base and moving em around.
That insurance run looks huge now..
Kap trying to win some fans.
Good for Kapler before Johnny belts him, let him finish!
Great job.
Damn….so close to a CG….
Excellent start for Cueto….
Johnny Johnny Johnny still a fantastic job!!
Finish this McGee for Johnny!!
I’m guessing fastballs!!
