Florida Sucks
It feels like the Marlins are always a pain to play. Anyone know what our career record vs them is? I tried finding that but whet down a rabbit hole at baseball-ref and barely got back out alive.
Game time is 4:10PM PST
Disappointed to hear about Cueto but my main man in Portland, Luke, says there’s nothing to worry about: We have the pitching to cover for him.
I’m going with Luke on this one till further evidence emerges…..
McGee pipes 2 fastballs down the middle 0-2. And surprisingly gives p a hit. Stupid.
how bad are we gonna miss Grave Duggar’s D in extras if we get there?
More then his offense I guess?
needs more at bats to bury you. Continue to sleep with both eyes open.
Lol 😂
That was painful to watch.
35 pitches to not be the losing pitcher. Whew!
Get em in extras, hey we have a lead off double.
Arena ball.
Do you miss the holograms? He’s king of the holograms!
At least we have a fast guy on 2nd.
McGee due up 2nd, has Kap used up the bench?
Yes..
35 pitches and it felt like 70…
Well somehow still tied after McGee blows the save.
Looks like we’re going to Doval after all, there’s no one left in the BP right?
“Remember. Slater will be the runner in second!” Kuip
He wouldn’t’ve been so cheery with Duggar out there. You know that’s true.
Betcha that’s the first time Disco has come in as a pinch hitter.
Just go on contact at this point .
What AI told them not to run some version of the safety squeeze there?
This beyond pathetic now..
Gumby!
“That pitch was right there in his nitro zone.” Javy L. Thumbs up?
Saved by the Belt!
Atta way Mr. Belt.
Nice fat one to rake…
Belted enough to get the lead back.
Oh thank you lord! May I have another Belt!
How does Desclafani not score there? With two down?
Cause he’s a pitcher with pitcher legs.
Challenge. Was it that close? Only got gameday here.
It was astonishingly close.
Close, but he was out. It was a heck of a play.
1B Hands? I’d say so.
Yep. I’d say fingers but he palmed that ball, just before Dubon got his foot down, what a play.
Shit Dubon u needed to hustle threw that play then easing up..
It did look like he eased up.
BB9 starting to get hot. He did that last year and carried the team for awhile.
Was Dubon doing more watching of the play than running it out but at least Belt comes up clutch again tonight..
Kapler evidently leery about Doval thrown into that situation. So we get Jarvy.
I realize now that they count team LOB differently than individual LOB, at least in these live box scores.
Miami has 25 individually and 17 as a team (at the end of innings like always)…
Wow. Casali is telling Garcia who’s in charge. Tough vet.
That blue haired dude is really annoying me. Maybe another gold chain would help.
Yeah just another typical collapse against this freaking team..
Chisholm I think
Does anybody speak Garcia?
WTF
Ahh shit.
Yeah
Fuck me sideways
Goddamn shitty relief pitchers.
Why did they not bring in a righty for Garcia there??? kapler failure
Does Miami have a resident spell-caster who shows up whenever the Giants are in town? Kapler got bit in the ass by using up his bench again. He’s a bit much into that L-R thang.
He ain’t no Boch. Whatever he’s gnawing on behind that mask ain’t getting the job done.
Slater ain’t innocent either…
If you’re talking about not scoring on that obvious base hit, I agree. What the hell did he see on that one.
Graveduggar scores on that play 8 days a week.
You ain’t gettin’ a Beatles video from me…
That’s as bad a loss as you can have.
was out to dinner, turned on Flem on radio and he said run not scoring top 10 might cost them the game. Sure enough…
Because he has no balls too see what Doval could do.Why the hell did you call him up for then!
I hate when your manager shows no confidence in situations if he could do the job are not u have to find out..
Flem couldn’t stop saying how surprised he was that Dubon didn’t beat out that play. Makes we wonder if he was dogging it down the line. Was he?
It looked like he eased up before reaching the bag.
If you asked Casali I think the guy optioned out would be Garcia, til the signs get translated for him or something. flem said he was really hot and yelling at dugout after second or third cross up.
I love that Flem criticizes these guys a little bit. He just came out and said Garcia doesn’t know the signs.
That’s unreal.
How does any pitcher reach the major leagues and not know the signs? That’s unbelievable.
It’s unbelievable in high school.
Only on the Giants…
Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs, fucking up the scenery, breaking my mind. Do this, don’t do that—–don’t you know the signs????
Sandawg, here’s the play:
Thanks for this. I agree with LJ.
McGee has been money so I aint giving him grief but no excuse not to bring in the new righty in that situation…but no excuse for Dubon to not bust ass down the line. Flat out no excuse. I would consider sending him a message and send him down now that we have the Grave Man here…
Completely agree…
Great minds…
I don’t blame Kapler on this one. Pitchers didn’t get it done.
Were TV guys talking about Sanchez’ fastball topping out at 87?? Miller and Flem were concerned.
Sanchez is going to be get what you see and dont expect much…Wood will probably be the better starter..
Well that sucked, not much else to say
McGee wears this . . . No one else (especially Kapler, whom played it by the book). I still recall his terrible 2018 and 2019 Sherpa seasons after he signed a 3 year, $27 million contract in 2017. Hoping that this isn’t his MO again, but be prepared for north of 1.40 WHIPs going forward. Seriously.
One thing to consider than I just read on twitter: McGee was managed carefully by LA. The Giants run him out there over and over and over. The dude has one pitch. This is not how to use him, the Giants need to find someone else STAT to close games
Agree Flavor. Read this article . . . https://www.denverpost.com/2020/07/17/jake-mcgee-bryan-shaw-released-rockies/
Rockies waived both him and Bryan Shaw because “Their stuff was similar to what we’ve seen the past couple years,” per Black, the manager; with the GM, Bridich adding, “The primary piece of the decision was past performance and expected future performance,”
One trick pony. lol
i like the guy I just don’t understand why Kap decided this is his horse. This guy is not a horse.
why would you bring up what he did in Col? That’s silly. Everyone pitches poorly up there, you know that
Not entirely true. He was excellent in Colorado in 2017.
so he had an excellent year in Colorado and you’re *recalling* his two bad years? If you think the guy sucks why would you reference an *excellent* year he had in a place that’s impossible to pitch in? You seem to be arguing multiple positions or maybe I’m not sure what your take is. What, exactly, is your take?
My “take” is that he’s not the pitcher he was in 2017. Why? Well, take a look at his birth certificate for a start. Oh, almost 35 years old. Okay, maybe old age.
and Kapler needs to fuck his *book*. McGee is not a machine you just keep running out there over an over.
Or Gott last year…
Again, disagree. He is playing with the cards he was dealt. If you have a shitty pitching staff and especially, a fucked up bullpen – you don’t have too many options.
so if you were managing the Giants you’d send out a guy you knew was gassed and couldn’t do the job? Then you’d both be shitty managers.
Dude, that was his “CLOSER” and he didn’t get the job done. Pfffttt!
Now, the next time a save situation comes up? No, I wouldn’t go with McGee. Next man standing as the saying goes. But good luck with that . . . I don’t see anyone in this pen capable of closing quite frankly.
Hell of a Warriors Celtics game!!! NBA at its best…
now, if you want to argue Kap has no one else to close then I’ll go with that, but this *by the book* shit is nonsense. He has to have an idea of whether this guy can keep getting run out there, right? This is his job
And looked like the Marlins were swinging away at what he was throwing knowing what was coming instead of taking a lot of pitches.
I think maybe I’ll relax and watch The Long Goodbye “with Jim Bouton as Terry Lennox.” If you like the big Lebowski you’ve gotta see the original. Get back at it manana.
You’ll never get me to believe the manager is a big reason why teams lose. Yes, they get fired all the time. So what? Easier to fire a minimum pay manager versus 9 mediocre multi-million dollar baseball players.
Kapler was absolutely awful with the Phillies and was ripped by their fan base for strategic ineptitude, especially with his bullpen. We saw a bit of that last year but he got a plus grade with me but he does not strike me as the brightest bulb on strategy. I still think the big lanky kid Hjelle is an eventual closer. Let’s see if he is up later in the year…
I could give 2 shits about Kapler, but there are 9 (or more) reasons why this team loses besides what the coaches and manager does. lol.
And Blade who is the decision maker when the game is in the balance and you have a lefty in a game and a righty pinch hitter comes in but the manager sticks with the lefty??? Just common sense managing to bring in a righty…blame for this blown lead in the 10th is clearly on Kapler.
Okay. lqtm
The manager isn’t an idiot. At least, he shouldn’t be. He has the pulse of his team, he’s fucking there all the time. If a guy is gassed you don’t just keep running him out there. Period. Would he get questioned if he brought someone else in to close? Well, if the guy fucked up he would. But that’s why you get paid to make these decisions. I would at least respect him a little more if he managed with SOME gut decisions. Fuck the book the book is a joke, anyone can read a book. But if you have a closer who was managed carefully last year and this year he has been successful but you are overusing him don’t you think, as the fucking manager, you’d consider not ridiing him so hard? I mean what are we talking about here, this is basic stuff.
Also, I hated Bass Baldy. There, it’s all out of my system now. LOL
McGee had two days rest didn’t he? And Bass Baldy is a great guy, much maligned over one challenge. He was wrong, in that moment, that’s true. But have you never erred? Have you never dug a hole you couldn’t get out of without help?
Back to the movie.
Exact same thing the Rays manager did with Snell in the Series last year. The analytics said pull Snell but all of us who watched 40 plus years of playoff baseballs and world series the gut said to keep Snell in there….but noooooo…
McGee threw 34 fastballs and just 2 sliders that inning…so that has got to change if he is going to be consistently reliable as a closer..
In that fatal inning McGee grooved a couple of 4-seamers right down the pike. I think he was still a bit worn out from consistent and constant use. Those two pitches put the ducks on the pond. Also I noticed that the variations in degrees of fall-off had themselves fallen off considerably from recent outings. It may have been okay to run Jake out there to start the inning, but with prior notice that he would have a short leash because he had appeared so frequently of late and that he would need to prevent that leadoff man from reaching base.
Inducing an infield pop-up may have been the correct tactic on the leadoff guy…might have required him to mix up his pitches more than 90+ percent 4-seamers to engender a pop-up. With that guy on second and one out, then he could have gone back to some maximum-break F.B.’s. If the second batter managed to get on then major sinking action would have had a reasonable chance of a GDP to end the game.
Dogs beat Pads again, 2-0 shutout as Kershaw outduels Darvish. Tatis Jr. 0-4 3 Ks. 1-10 in series with 5 Ks and costly error. 1 hit was a HR, but Pads getting shoved around like kid brother. Yard looked pretty full last night, though not a lot of masks.
attendance for both games listed as 15 thou, which I guess is max allowed.
night games in middle of week at Stick, could have counted everyone 2 or 3 times and not gotten that many.
Wow, it was a good evening to host our first post-COVID dinner party. The food and booze were splendid.
Rispoli got bounced off Derby contender RYW by Rosario.
Now that’s a rough game…
You really haven’t seen “California Split”? I refuse to believe it.
There’s an excellent chance that Bass Baldy is far better at playing bass than any of us were or are at our respective professions. His baseball musings, however, were a little like watching Robert DeNiro throwing in “Bang the Drum Slowly.”
That’s true, but it still doesn’t address my main point. He’s a good guy who made some minor mistakes.
I wasn’t actually directly responding to what you posted Xoot. I just quickly skimmed the many comments.
Before tonight’s game, McGee had pitched 7.1 allowing one hit. Now if Kap were half as smart as I am, he would have known that shit was not going to last another night, especially in Miami. He would have brought in Doval to close. If Doval saves the game, Kap is a total fucking savant. If he blows it, he defiantly explains to the assembled bas peuplé that the exact same thing would have happened if he’d gone with McGee. Simple.
Just watched Rollerball. Fucking awesome movie. What a shitty sports day. My niece’s son who plays catcher for UC Davis, was beating Fullerton 1-0 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. The senior pitcher was pulled by the coach after he gave up a base hit. The next guy gave up a walk and a double. Game over. Same coach who, yesterday had his best hitter bunt with a runner on 1st and one out. They were down 7-0 in the 5th inning. 2 innings later, the same guy hit a 3 run homer. THe program isn’t doing that well, so it’s not like they were fighting to move on in the playoffs, but apparently this coach has been making bad decisions all down the line.
Then the Giants double-crashed. Then the Warriors blew the Celtics game.
Nice day at the beach tho. Got some deep fried artichoke hearts in Castroville.
Had asparagus from a friend’s El Cerrito backyard tonight. Wanted it to be better than the farmers market stuff, but it didn’t quite get there. Still, impressive they can grow it at all.
I’m with James on this one. McGee hadn’t pitched since Wednesday. He left shit over the plate.
Looking at the saves leaderboard, everyone is around 6 to 9 innings. It’s not like we are overusing him.
He grooved shit with an 0-2 count. He was trying to throw high and left shit over the middle.
If he’s tired now, what will he be in July?
