A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Kap Needs To Find Another Well

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 18, 2021

The Giants have played 14 games and Jake McGee has appeared in 9 of them. That is too many, especially coming off a short season where he only pitched 20 innings total. He’s been a nice surprise but if Kap wants to continue to get positive returns on him he needs to spread him out more. Now, who is the secondary closer is a good question. But I know one thing: it can’t just be McGee all season that’s not going to work.

To be honest with you I can’t remember what led to the falling out I had with good ol’ BassBaldy. It had something to do with him thinking Adam Duvall was the second coming of Barry Bonds. Something like that. I also suspected him to be an undercover Dodger troll but I could have been wrong about that………

This is a picture of Ervin, one of my main men on the scene in the Pacific Northwest. It was sent to me by PaSalon, my #1 First Mate in Reno. I have many questions about this picture: for starters, what did Ervin’s friend eat that was so good he cleaned his plate like that? And why is Ervin asleep? How could anyone sleep wearing that rad shirt, their must be a game on somewhere. Also, what is wrong with Ervin’s food? DId he think it was poisoned? Why didn’t he eat his food?

Nice work by Barager also with 2 punch outs!
Guess it’s going to Jolly Rodgers to try and close.
They sure could use another run are 2 right now..

Early warning: Rogers hasn’t given up a run in 5 straight outings.

  3. unca_chuck said, on April 18, 2021 at 12:48 pm

Who’s pitching the 9th? Wandy or Mr. Rogers?

  4. xoot said, on April 18, 2021 at 12:48 pm

Duggar sure ripped that soft error to 2B

  5. willedav said, on April 18, 2021 at 12:48 pm

no that’s not a hit E-4. 3 hopper that bounced off his glove.

reminder: Webb is supposed to start Tuesday game so if he’s activated, someone leaves though it could be Tromp if Posey is OK..
wow Marlins IF giving Giants some chances for insurance run.

Is it going to Alex Webb are Logan Webb per Kuiper’s blunder..?

OMFG. Too funny. Never seen this. But as mentioned, one of the greatest fights ever. Got it on VCR still.

Floro is good. He got Longo on down and in changeups and sinkers. Plenty of break on both.

MadBum 1 ER in 5 IP, that’ll help the ERA a little.

Wouldn’t an 81 mile an hour fastball be considered a change up.

Won’t you be our closer? Yes!

    • willedav said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:09 pm

lulz. Hey Giants hang onto 2nd place in West!

  14. xoot said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:04 pm

Pretty good game. We better get used to Mr Rogers.

  15. James said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:08 pm

Rogers is terrible, but he survives by not giving up too many hits, walks, or runs.

    • xoot said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:17 pm

Yeah that’s terrible. You like that catachresis, huh? 80s critical theory student?

      • James said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:26 pm

The worst kind, by way of film theory. Finished several years later as a Classics major. There’s a list of all the rhetorical figures in the standard Latin Prose comp textbook. Litotes and prolepsis were always my faves.

      • xoot said, on April 18, 2021 at 2:47 pm

Ah! No wonder you went off years ago when I said something oafishly offhand about JP Melville. But litotes I think is often the tip of the catachresis iceberg. Maybe I’m straining. I’ll bet back in those days you stubbornly avoided using the pun(n)y parenthetical, though. If so, my congrats.

      • James said, on April 18, 2021 at 10:40 pm

I vaguely remember that, I think I was mostly puzzled because it didn’t add up that you’d actively dislike JPM. No parentheticals for me, although I did once write a paper about Homeric domesticity titled “Ayes of the Prize.”

Bauer vs. Snell at Petco, on mlbtv. Dogs 13–2, yikes.

  17. Macdog said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:10 pm

Third shutout win in last seven games.

  18. Carstie Clausen said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:11 pm

Ahhhh. Relief. Mr. Rogers has moved up at least a half-notch into #1 setup & alternate closer. Economical 11 pitch inning. Amazing breaks on his pitches today. He got their Dick with a 54 degree. Second pitch to Rojas broke at 50 d. and he got him with a 45. After an incredible 96 degree curve to set him up, the killer was down at 44.
Kap may work Doval gradually into the #2 setup role—for a while, anyway. It’s just possible that Baragar could steady in during the 7th and occasionally the 8th inning. Rest of the relievers, exception of Jake can sink or swim in early-middle roles.

Pitching was superb today, highlighted all over the place, but full pride to Wood who put on a clinic.

Good sunday get away win but makes last night’s loss even more frustrating since we could have had the series….on to Philly along with the Dubs. Did not realize the Dubs then come to DC and looked up tickets and cheapest $265 for the upper tier $465 for lower tier…FUCK THAT!!! Wonder if that is similar pricing rest of the covid NBA…

  20. Carstie Clausen said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:26 pm

Superlative defense today. Slater sure can cover some ground. He stays healthy and is a definite keeper. The look on Jazzface was High Larry Us when Solano caught a leg up on him.

  21. willedav said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:46 pm

Chris Taylor homers on first pitch he sees from Snell in 2nd, 2-0 Dogs.

  22. gianthead said, on April 18, 2021 at 1:48 pm

Rogers as a closer is certain disaster.

    • James said, on April 18, 2021 at 2:14 pm

Hey, Romo has saved 25 of his last 29. If the Giants get to a point this season where the distant miracle of a playoff spot is decided with a Rogers vs. Tatis September AB, I’d be ok with that impending disaster, whatever TR’s role is.

That is a famous picture of Ervin, Biggie. I took that picture of him at the Las Vegas airport on our way home from a trade show in April 2012. Right there frozen in that historic picture is Ervin reading your blog for the first time! He loves pizza and he loves one flap down.

    • Flavor said, on April 18, 2021 at 3:56 pm

well that is a tasty story, First Mate.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 18, 2021 at 4:31 pm

Either that or it put him to sleep.

  24. unca_chuck said, on April 18, 2021 at 4:17 pm

Love all the Dodger/Padre rivalry talk. And the Sandogs back it up by getting swept.

  25. willedav said, on April 18, 2021 at 4:19 pm

Pads beat up Dogs pen after Bauer leaves. They lead 5-2 in 9th as Melancon comes in for save.

    • willedav said, on April 18, 2021 at 4:22 pm

Giants back down there in 2 weeks at end of month.

    • willedav said, on April 18, 2021 at 4:24 pm

1-2-3 clean inning for Melancon and Pads salvage get away day. They are now 10-7, Dogs 13-3.

4 winners ridden today at SA by leading jockey Flavien Prat, including Cezanne in feature. Apprentice Jess Pyfer won twice today and fellow apprentice Emily Ellingwood won yesterday in 4th at SA on Question Authority .
    good advice, that.

    • Carstie Clausen said, on April 18, 2021 at 8:26 pm

If most people followed that good advice, this ruptured republic would be a free country as fast as you can say Jackie Robinson.
