Phuckin’ Phillies
We are now safely into the MLB grind. Miami swing now through Philly. It does feel great to have the consistency of baseball back again.
The aged POTD continues to haunt me. I just can’t believe in these hitters who seem so woefully weaker and less accomplished than many of the other NL teams.
With a batting average bumped *all the way up* to .205 we have at least safely put the disreputable Mendoza behind us. Sadly, The Cubs are the only one behind us as a team at .192.
Our bats suck right now, but who would have thought, with that said, that our Giants would be in 2nd place. And, only five other teams have a better record.
Given what my expectations were at the start of the year, I am pleasantly surprised. The bats have to get better at some point. Hoping the pitching can hold.
2 sides to the coin. Giants runs against per game is best in the league and team ERA 3rd best behind only dogs and Padres. As Mac said at 1:10 yesterday, 3rd shutout W in 7 games. Shut the other guys down, don’t need as many good things to happen.
Webb gets reprieve from guv and is back in rotation Tuesday as Kap returns to Philly today.
Slusser said something interesting on her twitter account yesterday, that after getting 2nd Covid vaccine shot McGee was definitely feeling the effects while pitching in the meltdown game Saturday, according to Kapler. And as mentioned, no idea if Kapler knew this beforehand. hmmnn
Kapler did say he expects Webb, in same situation, to be ready to start Tuesday game.
I read this Slusser tweet and took it that Kapler was aware that McGee was ill that day.
“I asked Kapler if McGee had been feeling the effects of the second vax during his outing and he said yes, McGee has been battling some effects for a few days.”
I guess McGee could have told Kapler that he was good to go.
well then that doesn’t make Kap look too good, does it? Isn’t he suppose to base decision on the availablity of his players? Since he clearly knew this player was compromised I trust everyone will now allow Kap to *wear* this fuck up.
whatever, all those guys say they’re good to go. Especially a guy like McGee who is kind of a closer by default. Kap made the wrong call. He gets paid to make the right call.
I agree with you, McGee probably should have been put on the IL the day after getting the shot.
I am still waiting for the patience at the plate philosophy.
The Yankee hysteria here is big fun…
Hopefully, going into Citizens Bank Band Box, the bats can get healthy.
Wouldja believe? A tiddle of respect. MLB ratings crew has upped the Giants from 22nd in its power rankings clear on up to 18th—a game ahead of Cleveland and one behind Toronto. Cubs rank lower and the Nats took a huge tumble.
Really not expecting much of a jump in the hitting until warm weather days heat up those bats. We all know they aren’t THAT bad. Some signs of life from both Belt and Yaz. After a decent start, Buster dropped into the doldrums and then the owwie. Longo has fallen off slightly. Dubon looking more and more dubious. Again, I give him a couple weeks, maybe three, before Ramos gets the call and Maurice gets the DFA.
Giants sticking around due to the guys on the mound. Thrilling to see Wood looking good. Disco’s been fine, Gausman is looking to establish himself as an ace. Cueto’s comeback sparkled. He’ll get eased back in, I’m guessing in another five days. Sanchez better than I expected and Webb has something to prove. So at this stage of the season, the rotation is doing waaaay better than anyone anticipated. If they keep up a pace anywhere close to what they’ve done so far, my hat, cap and anything else that can be stuck on the head are off to the world’s premiere dumpster-diver dynamic duo, Zaidi and Harris. Midas touch, gang.
What a relief yesterday in Miami. Kapler, for once, perhaps, played his cards right and in near perfect order. Baragar has earned him some cred. Alvarez is looking more like his prior self. Mr Rogers slings those torpedos sweeping in at incredible breaking action. He’s starting to look like that kid who dominated during his pipeline years. Matured now, from his stop n go uncertainties during his early MLB stints, he seems to have found his rhythm.
And then there’s Doval. Nonchalant on the mound, easy mellow look on his face, chewing cozily on his gum, he shakes em up with some sizzling heat and then those killer sliders. Gratitude for his attitude. Studly style, but not ego-driven–just confident. Nerves of titanium. Couple more outings like yesterday’s and he will stick and stay. Congrats are due to the organization for giving him the call. Most rookies, particularly pitchers are nervous, hesitant, uncertain. Camilo took the mound like a combat veteran. I’m impressed.
Dubon is still a concern–even if Slater has taken over CF for most part, he’s still backup SS to Crawford so I don’t think he’s going anywhere soon.
As for Ramos, let’s give him a chance to show he can hit at least minor league pitching, other than the alt site. What he did in ST is encouraging but not a harbinger, plus can he really play CF or is he strictly corner guy?
Phils SP is RHP Chase Anderson, 33 yr old journeyman who was with Brewers for few years. Last year with Toronto had ERA of over 7.00. So far he’s made 2 starts for Phils, and lasted all of 9 innings while throwing 154 pitches. Time for LHs to shine, and Yaz LaStella and Belt showed signs of life over weekend.
Philadelphia is the first ballpark that has generally favored hitters. 3 games probably won’t shift things noticeably, but playing in more live yards should help balance the stats in the long run.
Dick Allen would hit 60 there…
I always thought Danny Murtaugh should receive credit for sending a fucked up Dock Ellis to the mound for several years.
Yeah, the people controlling the feds do not like to be reminded of “fucked up” on acid, Ellis complacently throwing a no-hitter. Might give people bad ideas.
Tune in, turn on, strikeout.
LOL…
Dock was on LSD he said almost every game including his no hitter, amazing how effective he could still function between the lines ( literally) when probably half the time he didn’t know what ballpark/city he was pitching in..
That is amazing I can imagine the trails he was seeing.
Focus, my man, focus.
Just wondering, don’t u think the whole Giants team would of received the vaccine back on 4/8 the day before the opener? Cause Longoria missed the opener due to side effects 4/9 then a full 8-10 days passed and McGee goes down like Frazier.Longo only missed the one game while McGee goes on IL ( though I guess it’s day to day scenario with covid) it just seems alittle fishy ..
What is not fishy when it comes to the plandemic?
lulz
Yes true lol, every team has an out clause for easy call ups for this plandemic and it’s not a 10 day IL it’s day to day only so wink and take advantage of it..
I think for these 2 ill effects came after second more powerful shot, which hits everyone differently.
Some giants got the shot in AZ before they left becz AZ had dropped the age limit then. Kapler did as I recall. He talked about I believe. I remember thinking we’d see trouble in down the line with more jabs, second jabs.
Likely most MLB teams will be dealing with the same difficulties.
Sure thus the special IL
1. Tommy La Stella (L) 2B
2. Mike Yastrzemski (L) RF
3. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
6. Austin Slater (R) CF
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Curt Casali (R) C
9. Kevin Gausman (L) P
The 5 LH batters vs 3 RH should make a job of work for Anderson. Give a bit of support to Gausman and he could cruise to his first victory after three excellent starts.
Yaz and Solano . . . the latter is only a couple XBH’s away from his usual numbers. Our best player, OTOH, is whiffing once every 3 plate appearances. He needs to start hitting a few more bombs to achieve Gallo’s exotic heights over a season.
Counting on Gausman in DK. Phils essentially have one lefty (Harper) that can do damage. Very much a “rightycentric” line up.
Won’t be much longer when Kapler feels the wrath of The brotherly love Phillies fans!
They can be relentless and they have no love loss for Kapler..
Hopefully they might be more sympathetic for PitcherJose Alvarez
who took a line drive off his balls for them last year, it was a real nut cracker, but thankfully he bounced back ok ..
He bounced back—or they bounced back?
Back to the alternate site for GraveDuggar&Tromp(guess they feel Buster will be ok, probably just PH, emergency backup..
Called up Pitchers Sam Selman& everyone’s favorite Trevor Gott..
Makes me wonder if they’re tanking for a higher draft pick…
lol, FUCK yeah!
Back to reality.
least y’all didn’t have to worry if haters would still hate if he did something good.
Is .100 the back up catcher line?
Worse, Casali is 1-18 yikes 😱 km Loo
Belt goes boom.
44, then 22, are the favorite 1Bs. JT follows. But hasn’t Gumbi been great? And yet some fans remember Ishi ahead of him.
All but McCovey have a monumental PS homer to their credit.
Ishi was one of Twin’s boys…
Time for another Belt!🥃
Javy’s comment on Belt’s belt sounded borderline pornographic.
I think he’s trying hard to be more colorful.
It’s not working.
I want Timmy in the booth…
I’d love to see you trying to convince Timmy to let you be his agent.
I’ve tried with a few jockeys.
Thought I was close a couple of times…
Where is Gausman‘s 95+?
Casali is useless with a bat in his hands.
But he’s a tough vet catcher dammit
Hit ball long ways first time up, but yes. Makes it worse with auto out Gausman right behind him.
Everyone has said though, doesn’t matter–he has now caught 3 shutouts in a row, first since Posey in Lincecum days.
Not so sure I’m all that into him behind the plate either.
sometimes it’s better to just let it come to you…..
Yeah what a doofus, it’s not like anyone else is even going after the ball to break your tail bone over..
Javy: “Brad Miller is hitting .250 vs. RHP this year – .222 overall.”
That’s 2 for 8 plus 0 for 1.
Is that supposed to mean something?
Meanwhile across the street, Dubs and Sixers tied at half.
Why is La Stella signed for thee years(
Geez didn’t know it was going to turn into Phillies bat and ball night. 200th double bat and ball, 1st big league dying quail, bat and ball.
Whew.
It must be the Curt “Cross Me Up” Casali magic at work.
I’m wondering now if it’s not the pitchers since Gausman is an American and it’s on Casali?
“Does anybody speak Casali”?
It’s getting kind of weird, at least he didn’t start screaming at the bench tonight.
Nice work by Gausman with help by one of the worst umpires ever CB Buckner!
That should be it now with 108 pitches, so let’s see how the BP holds up.
3 shutouts in a week plus tonight so far, damm impressive..
Coondog! The Phillies don’t fool around. What a show. If they win I bet the phanatic will fuck a hole in CF while the fireworks flare.
Flores’ average is nearing Dubonville.
If Wisler fucks this up, he is gone.
He still sucks but he gets a reprieve for another day..
https://www.youtube.com/
Wishler with his 15.75 ERA in next😩
Great input Javy that we already know..Wishler..He’s just trying to get it right..
Whisler’s mother must have been praying for her little boy tonight. Maybe he’s picking it up a bit.
Wisler, whistling past the graveyard.
Most excellent. Haven’t heard that in years. Forgot about the trumpet break.
It is a good one.
Digging the rhythm on the Bayou Clown 🤡 great stuff!
To add insult to injury, someone else got the Belted ball.
Mr. Rogers pitched the last 2 nights.
We getting the Magic Wandy for the 9th?
I guess I shouldn’t be counting chickens just yet.
Hooooooo boy. Some rockets off Doval. Outs is outs tho.
I’m thinking that tacking on a couple more runs would be a good thing.
Always with this team….
Kapler must feel as confident as Doval looks. Nice 9 pitch inning by the rookie.
Nice outing by Doval. In our system for six years and only 22. Oh to sign a ML contract at 16….
Still throwing strikes at least …
Casali double!
Casali is dangerous when he sees a hanging curve. He’s darned near up to Mendoza’s little brother’s line now.
Wandy Dandy it is . . .
Yeah Rodgers was on a torrid pace of appearances, he needed a day if you want to keep him Jolly..
Casali!!! Just raised that.050 average..that a boy..
Yeah Kat, up to .095!
Seen more cross ups this week than in a month of Sundays.
Hah, good one.
Warriors win, wouldn’t mind seeing Steph Curry rush to the park and close it out for the Giants.
WTF is this guy swingin’ at?
Knot a strike.
Whoop! Another shutout!
Another shutout W.
another shutout!
Phuck yeah!
Wow. ust enough offense. Gas man finally gets some support.
And finally, a W for Gausman.
Casali, the King of Catcher ERA!
Wandy Dandy!! Back to Back Shutouts!!
Giants always big to win the first game in a series!
Travers was so kick-ass in the 70s. Saw him a bunch of times. He opened for everyone
Yep. I saw him a number of time too, Charlie. Always a great show….
Never can get enough of Pat Travers!
Like Unca watched him perform his magic many times, he really nailed it at the Old Waldorf in a smaller establishment with great acoustic sounds ..
2nd best record in the NL. Who’d a thought it….
Can this be for real? Four team shutouts in 16 games played. Full forty percent of their wins are hanging on shutting out their opponents…and I mean hanging. Close is good for hand-grenades, horseshoes and the Giants offense. Blessings be unto BB9 for the runs and to up SFs season tater total to twenty. We’ll take it. Wondering what Vegas odds would have been for Giants getting that kinda pitching over the first tenth of their season.
They toss a few more shutouts and they’re power rankings cannot be denied anymore and only tick further up^
First round vs 4th round SF draft picks face each other tomorrow…Wheeler and Webb, which walks with the win?Has the latter recovered sufficiently from his jab to not laze out in the 4th and get hit more than a bit? Will his sparkling Spring Training performance emerge once again or will Cueto’s return make him the long-man. So far this season the Giants have not had a lot of need for someone taking on that thankless role.
You gotta admit this team has been entertaining so far. Not many blowouts, but plenty of grinding nail-biters.
This has been the weirdest and most interesting team in baseball since last June.
He’s going to single handedly revive the CERA stat.
Wouldn’t it be a little more relevant to know the last time this happened in the majors?
And how often?
Who gives a shit about 1901?
Thank you!
Actor Felix Silla died at age 84, according to obituary in Chron. Among other roles, he was Cousin It.
I no longer have a reason to live…
Me too Loo, Cousin Itt was a cult hero growing up with. I couldn’t get enough of seeing him he was so freaking funny! His hairy look, sunglasses, black derby hat, and his mumbling what is he saying? voice, made him easily my favorite character on Addams Family followed by Lurch& Thing..
One of my nicknames in HS when I let my hair grow for a year.
One of my nicknames still…
The world has lost one of the greats…
