Miami again. Cross country trip for both teams, no day off, probably some tired guys tonight.

Speaking of tired guys, I was up all night with this guy. Lots of problems. Going to the ER first thing this morning but I got a bad feeling about this…..

Keep good ol’ Carson in your thoughts today.

All the best with Carson. Furry Folk are like family when they live with us. Some of them are amazing catrachters. Sister’s cat “Lutefisk” went through some serious problems lately as he had developed a major urinary tract blockage and wasn’t able to egest anything. This led to more than a vet trip, but also a long operation which the vet doctor averred to have been the longest and most complex she had ever done.

“Lutie” got back a couple weeks ago, but developed a form of incontinence and was quite listless for the first few days after surgery. Three-four days ago he began getting a bit of spark back in his eyes, hit the water bowl pretty frequently and also started eating a bit. He’s eating somewhat more now, but remains pretty picky and particular about that. He’s walking more normally, but is a bit awkward sitting.

Sister has been through the mill as she has been recovering over the past three weeks from a 3 hour back-surgery, her fourth. “Lutie” is her snuggle-buddy and has been the house favorite. His consort, Else, has been a bit disconsolate as she was denied bedroom privileges while Lutie was early in the recovery process. Sister is happy that he survived the ordeal, some Six Grand later.

Flav – truly best of luck with Carson. He is such a cool looking cat. Maine Coon? Agree with Stix, in our house our dogs are absolutely family. It is always tough when things go sideways with any of our animals. All the best, Carson.

Good to be back in the confines of our park, but damn, the Marlins always seem to give us fits. We have Sanchez, Wood, Gausman and Webb lined-up for the series. Would be great to win another series, esp against the pesty fucking fish.

sorry to hear that Flav. Hope for best.

Possible window of opportunity for GD depending on injuries to IF. Haven’t seen anything on Solano to IL yet, but if Dubon has to cover 2b or SS in case Crawford needs day off, Slater would be only CF and that means no extra D behind Ruf or Dickerson in LF. Wade Jr. hit the IL April 15 so he still has few days left there, and haven’t heard anything about how well he is recovering.
Giants still have another 7 consecutive days of games before next day off, next Thursday. hmmnn

Yes, hope you get another reprieve with your kitty and that you aren’t faced with a 4-figure choice. We’ve been 2 years without one and still miss her.

I feel ya about Carson flav hopefully some good news will come your way. I have got an old guy that I just can’t get myself to put him down. I know he’s somewhat uncomfortable but not to the point of being totally miserable. Took him to the vet and he doesn’t have cancer. He does have a thyroid but he gets medication for it. So it’s just old age.

    Good luck, Flavor.
You know you can contact me anytime…

Diabetes is brutal for them, Flavor.
You can only do what the vet tells you and hope for the best.
I never thought my cat would make it this long. A lot of luck definitely involved.
Hoping it’s not as bad as you think.
These cats are tough and have a tremendous will to live…

Foghorn just shared another video of Posey’s second blast in game two. What he hit was a high, inside fastball clocked at around 98. Amazing feat. He’s got that quickness back along with full coordination of all aspects of torso, shoulder, arms and hands. That year off did wonders for him and that nagging hip problem seems to be presently out of the picture. Should he maintain his current pace, Buster’s resurrected power-bat looks like really good news for the Giants.

With Solano likely to go on the IL, one wonders which taxi-squadder will get the call. Good that Z&H made that deal with the Yanks to get a good defensive SS to add to the depth hovering in AAA.

This year’s version of position players is so different from those from more than a decade back and even of the ’17-19 bunch. With the exception of Dubon, just about all the regulars and half the bench have XBH power and most of them are also long-ball threats–as we witnessed with Ruf’s blast yesterday. Making the post-season looks more conceivable than it did a few weeks back, but early returns can be deceiving. One thing of which we can be fairly certain is that the team is positioning itself well for a solid run in ’22 and with the mass of talent on the lip of hitting The Show, by ’23 SF should be able to square up vs LA Mano a Mano.

We can be sure about one thing–maybe two: Giants are IN virtually every game and are quite capable of rallying from considerable deficits. And two, though frequently of a nail-biting quality, they definitely are entertaining and fun to follow.

Dang, Craig. Hoping for the best for your buddy Carson. Take care.

  11. unca_chuck said, on April 22, 2021 at 12:33 pm

Hope Carson recovers quickly. Cats are pretty tough and can last 18-20 years. Buddy of mine found a cat in Truckee in 1998 that lived until 2019. Unreal. No idea how old it was, but he was doing the water injections under the skin, and giving him all kinds of drugs, but he toughed it out for another 8 years.

Holy shit. Just watched the A’s highlights from yesterday. 2 easy groundballs booted with 2 outs and the bases loaded? Ouch to say the least.

    • djloo27 said, on April 22, 2021 at 1:27 pm

How many “fuck the numbers” battles did me and others have with Twin, who mostly swore by them.
      This is another one.
If the average cat lives to 12, that means that for every one that lived to 20, there was one that died at 4.
So what does it really mean?

      • Winder said, on April 22, 2021 at 1:33 pm

Lot of outside cats get hit by cars, people kill them for pooping in their yard, and disease get a lot of young ones that don’t have their shots. It’s tough being an outside cat.

      • James said, on April 22, 2021 at 1:46 pm

Aren’t you grateful for those human life expectancy stats? Most of us will get to see whether or not Zaidi meets his likely fate as the next smart guy who never wins anything.

      • unca_chuck said, on April 22, 2021 at 2:08 pm

That’s what’s crazy. It doesn’t mean anything. My friend’s cat could have been 24 for all we know. He was a feral cat living at 7,000′ in the snow and would climb up to his deck on the 2nd floor of a duplex. You got to be a special kind of tough to pull that off. My friend moved from Truckee to Reno to Pacifica to North Carolina with that cat.

  12. willedav said, on April 22, 2021 at 2:03 pm

Marlins will be without Starling Marte, on the IL since series with Giants last weekend.

  13. willedav said, on April 22, 2021 at 2:18 pm

Nothing from beat writers yet on Solano or a replacement.
Slusser mentioned Harper yesterday. Nothing against him except for…annoying step out routine he conducts on per each pitch basis. Slowly steps out, adjusts velcro, takes small practice swing, steps back in and then does bat touch on outside corner then inside then back again to outside. After every pitch!

  14. chipower9 said, on April 22, 2021 at 3:14 pm

Per the transactions page for the Giants, Solano to the 10 day DL with calf strain. RHP Santos recalled.

I like that the Giants are bringing up young flamethrowers, something never done in the past much.Gregory Santos( is ahead of pace, scheduled for next year to appear, which like Doval they must see the upside now to give him a look see)he came over with Shaun Anderson from Boston in the trade of Edwin Nunez ( yes Noonie) 2 years ago..

Giants get second look at Castano tonight. first time around he only gave up 3 hits/1 run in 5 innings. that was game SF lost 4-1 on Marte 3 run bomb.

  24. unca_chuck said, on April 22, 2021 at 7:02 pm

Wow. Ruf getting dissed with the walk to Longo. See if he can cash in.

      Up to .136!

  30. Macdog said, on April 22, 2021 at 7:19 pm

Bizarre play in Mets-Cubs. Baez hits fly that should’ve been caught and barely jogs to first, but ball drops between Pillar and Conforto, then Baez not paying attention after rounding first gets thrown out going back to first, but replay showed he was safe.

thanks for your thoughts, guys. Carson got hooked up to an IV and they ran some tests. They aren’t sure yet it looks like the ol’ boy might have colitis. That’s cool, we can deal with that. Tough sonbitch he is, he can handle that.

  37. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2021 at 8:21 pm

  38. unca_chuck said, on April 22, 2021 at 8:22 pm

Wow. Santos looks pretty damn good. 91 MPH slider?

  39. Carstie Clausen said, on April 22, 2021 at 8:22 pm

Conked out for a couple hours. Back on board just as Fish down in top of sixth. Baseball, who can figure it? Three players who I thought, going into the season, would be iffy, have come through in style as Ruf and Casali do the damage and Sanchez cruises through five on two hits given up. Another injury? What happened? Bench so short now, only midgets need apply. Bill Veeck, where are you when we need you?

  40. xoot said, on April 22, 2021 at 8:24 pm

    Closer candidate.

  41. Carstie Clausen said, on April 22, 2021 at 8:25 pm

Can’t say the current Giants regime are a bunch of muddy-duds. Kiddie Corps in action and Santos comes in and blows away their 6th on 14 pitches. He and Doval were not even anticipated to get past AA this year, if that.

  42. alleykat69 said, on April 22, 2021 at 8:25 pm

Damm real nice debut for Santos!
The Giants could be on to something good between him and Doval..

  44. Carstie Clausen said, on April 22, 2021 at 8:33 pm

Any ideas on why Sanchez got the early yank? Kapler looking to ease on his starters and give that inflated bullpen a bit of an airing?

Shocking. Wisler walks the leadoff guy.

Under 2.5 hours, I was back home sipping some Barbancourt 15 before ten tonight. We were wearing parkas out there. The Giants starter was throwing 89. The infielders made plays.

  62. Carstie Clausen said, on April 22, 2021 at 10:52 pm

At 12-7 SF is 2nd in the NL and tied for that in MLB. Not bad so far for a team which has no stars, a bunch of vets who had gone through rough spells and one of the most uncertain looking rotations in the game. All of a sudden we are breathing hard on the LaBumbos neck and everyone out there is wondering WTF. For now, anyway, it’s Glory Days.

I’m recalling springs in the 60’s, particularly, where the Giants did well in April, made hay in May and then kinda slid and skidded through the summer months. Looking over the schedule and the opponents’ records to date, making hay in May may not be in the offing. A .500 record during that merry month looks to be a reasonable assessment. June, though, may see los Gigantes again coming into tune, again judging by the schedule.

It’s. getting tough to hang with my pre-season guesstimating of a 78-84 record, but in no mood to change until Memorial Day or thereabouts. If, at that time the team still sports a winning percentage similar to the present one, it might be time to rethink—in a positively polly direction.

Wondering what will transpire with Longo’s leg-injury. If he goes on the IL for a spell things could get a bit complicated.
