A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Sunday Loose Ends

Two Flap HOF birthdays today: Unca Chuck and Chi. Happy birthday, boys!

Game last night was unfortunate as we wasted a deGrom-esque performance by Gausman.

Logan Webb tries to recapture the rapture of spring training.

Stix, if you can read this, good luck. Wish I lived closer to help you with the heavy lifting.

Speaking of public domain, The Great Gatsby went into that several weeks ago.
Fun fact: the book didn’t sell very well when it first came out. It had to build up years of word-of-mouth. Same with Moby Dick. Well, the same with a lot of classics.

There’s an old saying: The Velvet Underground didn’t sell a lot of records, but everyone that bought their records started a band.
Not literally true, of course, but has a point to it. Those records are sort-of classic.

The Velvet Underground had a totally unique sound. I wore out the banana album twice

They managed to sound like they were from the past, present, and future all at the same time somehow. I guess the definition of timeless.

The early REM albums had that, too, in my opinion.

Nobody knew what to think about Moby Dick when it was published. Many still don’t even though it’s now obviously the greatest American novel (odd as it is). Gatsby’s not far behind. Try to copy either at your peril.

I’d like to see the Giants acknowledge the 50 year anniversary of the ’71 NL West Champs.
Was also Mays’ (who turns 90 on 5/6) last full season as a Giant.
A lot of guys are still alive.
Gone off the top of my head are McCovey, Hart, Dietz, McCormick, McMahon, manager Fox, probably some others…

Bonds, too…McCormick not on that team…

        Gallagher has passed away.

        Maybe it’s not such a good idea…

    Pads comeback!

Wow Pads tie it up 7-7 top 9. Awesome comeback from being down 7-1.

I don’t watch many other games, but at the moment the Giants’ bullpen looks less suspect than LA’s.

Still a problem with the Dogs apparently.

    Funny.

Why was that 1-2 pitch not too close to take?

  9. James said, on April 25, 2021 at 8:40 pm

It’s amusing when pitches like those 3 strikes to Tatis last inning aren’t called out as “mistakes.” A thigh high fastball down the middle of the plate, a hanging slider, a belt high fastball on the inner half.

    Pads win!

  11. willedav said, on April 25, 2021 at 9:12 pm

Pads win 8-7 as Melancon gets Better and Seager to close it out for save.

    • zumiee said, on April 25, 2021 at 9:18 pm

I think Melancon did it with mirrors, but got it done.

Dodgers fail to score the phantom runner in the 10th or 11th.

Just watched the condensed game, what a game for Webb! A little drama at the end before Jazz hit a sour note for the final out. And good for MadBum hurling a 7-inning no-hitter!

Out of town for a few days. Great to see us still playing well. My question for everyone is at what point to do start taking this seriously enough to think we could contend? Mid May?

    • Winder said, on April 25, 2021 at 10:28 pm

I usually wait until after the all star break.
