Bush League
Not to sure what to say about the rule of the dude born on second base to start the 10th. That isn’t baseball. It completely whittles away and ruins any hard work your team does to claw back into a game. What about 9th inning heroics!??!!?!? Screw ’em, we gotta end this game, STAT!
I wouldn’t feel any differently if the Giants had won.
They have to get rid of this rule, everyone hates it.
lol
Agree. I made the same comment last night, late. Totally bush league. This is little league bullshit. Right behind it on my list is the rule that a pitcher must pitch to three batters. That one is bullshit, too. Manfred sucks.
LMAO on the kayak guy. Calm down, cracker.
Kayak guy looks like Santos–somebody who doesn’t belong out there at this level.
Wonder if Brisbee has any more “thoughts” about Santos.
Agree on the rule but, that’s not what cost giants the game–their own relievers did that along with errors in field and on bases. Kapler had 3 guys to pick from for 10th, one he picked was least experienced and didn’t work out.
McGee (ours supposed best reliever) has given up runs in 4/5 appearances (inclu last night). Kap doesn’t have many good options.
Crawford’s error was a killer. He had all day to get the catcher running down to first base and rushed the throw.
Agree the rule had nothing to do with the loss. It just is a stupid-ass rule. Our bullpen is suspect. Like Craig said, Kap doesn’t have alot of options.
Manfred’s quest to change baseball into a different game is just mind boggling to me.
I was thinking if a team wanted to show him up and protest the rule, just have the pitcher keep throwing to second base for a 1/2 hour or so. Also, they could make it painful and have the infielder that catches the ball slap it on the runner’s knee, this would start a brawl and really drag the 10th inning out. I guess the problem would be that Manfred wouldn’t see how absurd starting the 10th with a runner on and would just come up with another inane rule to combat it.
For now though, I’d have a couple of pitchers that only throw from the stretch, even when nobody is on, make them real comfortable with that situation. We could call them Soggys (stretch only guys).
Just another stupid idea by Manfred that contributes nothing to the game. What an idiot.
I was laughing at the kayak dude last night. He was the only one out there!
what’d he make, 3 passes on that ball?
At least. lulz
But if you look closely there was a guy with a crab (green) net that he tossed from the walkways putting alittle pressure on him probably why he freaked out..
Tauschman’s stats are alittle weird , he had all his success in 2019, very impressive with 13 bombs , doubles 47 RBI’s all in less then 300 AB’s .Then I guess he just got stuck in the Yanks outfield depth, cause he never hit another HR are did much of anything since..
Tauchman doesn’t have options, so he stays. Counting Dubon that leaves SF with 6 OFs (3 RH 3 LH), plus Bolt Wade Jr. and GD at alt site. Not to mention Ramos. Quite a logjam. When Solano comes off IL gotta wonder what happens–would Kap go extra position player?
I’d argue Kap made the right call. You can’t send a lefty up there to face Story with a guy on 2nd base. And Santos did take care of their best hitter. Then you have this stupid 3 batter rule so he has to stay in. The only other option was…….Wisler? Fuck that guy.
we got this guy for fucking nearly nothing
Yeah I agree, sometimes u have still have to play the hand u have and hypothetically what if Santos gets the job done and it goes a few more inning u can stick with him throwing maybe a couple more innings,Wishler? yeah fuck him.
Yesterday’s game was a mess, glad we got that out of the way. The extra innings rule is totally off base and screwed up. When the game is on the line you don’t give bases to anyone no matter how long the game takes that is just common sense baseball.
Can you imagine if they put a guy on second during the Marichal/Spahn game. No telling what Marichal would have done, maybe another Roseboro incident.
I’ve been really impressed with Posey. His swing looks great, balanced, powerful and quick and he’s driving the ball to all fields. This is as good as he’s looked in 5 years, imo. Throw in his always-great defense and you have a massive upgrade for this team. Tough loss last night.
To build on what Flav said, I say bag all the changes Manfred has put into place. None of them makes any sense to me. I’m a pretty hardcore traditionalist, but believe it or not the DH is the only one that makes even a modicum of sense to me and that only because the rest of the baseball world uses it, from the lowest minors on up, college included. I don’t want it, but I could get used to it. The biggest problem with the DH is that it fundamentally changes the game. You can argue about how much strategy is actually involved in having to deal with the pitcher batting, but, regardless, it adds interest to the game.
The rest goes in the trash.
If speeding up the game is the real reason behind these changes, then sack up and put a timer on the pitchers and batters and enforce it. Some of these dudes slow the game to a crawl with men on base and it gets to be kind of ridiculous. And guys stepping all the way out of the box after every pitch does the same thing.
Baseball is the greatest game ever invented, in my humble opinion, and does not need to be tampered with. But there’s always some joker who thinks he’s smarter than everyone else and can improve on what does not need improving. Leave baseball alone!
Lurker- I am with you on being ok with the DH. I always thought that it would change the dynamics of the game. Mainly the pitching aspect. But in today’s game pitching has taken a specialized aspect to where they change pitchers all the time. You can see 3-5 pitchers a game. If a pitcher is hot then he doesn’t have to worry about being taken out because he can’t hit. If he’s not hot then they are taking him out anyway. No one bunts anymore. Anyway I am ok with the DH if they do it.
Good points, Winder. I think ultimately they will, if only to homogenize the game across the board, but my preference will always be for the National League game to remain intact. The DH has been around for so long now (what, 50 years?) that’s it’s pretty well entrenched in the game.
“I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part.”
“And we’re the guys to do it!!!”
I think the only people who can change it now is the sponsors and the owners. I guess the fans could also if they stop going to games but they won’t. TV money is where it will hurt em.
I agree that the 3 batter rule needs to change. Instead the reliever that is coming in does not need more warm up pitches from the mound. Unless the the starter gets hurt. The bull pen guy has been warming up, what does he need more warmup pitches for. That would speed up the game
Seeing what the fucking commissioner has done, DH is the least harmful of the things that can be implemented. It wouldn’t kill me the way that the 3 hitter rule and the runner at 2nd does. These changes take away the ability to strategize certain situations. Actively fucking with strategy is blasphemy in my book.
Agree, Charlie, but the DH does significantly fuck with the strategy of the game. I am huge against the DH, but am also resigned to the fact that it is probably just a matter of time before it is instituted in the Sr. Circuit.
Yeah, but of the 3, the DH is the least harmful. That’s my only point. That if they are going to do something, do the DH instead of the other 2. It has been around for 50 years in the jr circuit, and all the other baseball programs (college/minors) use it, so it isn’t as ludicrous as the others.
These interpreters constantly coming out slows the game to a crawl along with every player going to the mound to be on board with sign changes when theirs a runner on and base is ridiculous as well..
OK so when Tauchman gets here and everyone is healthy enough to play:
Casali and Posey at C
IF: Belt Solano Crawford Longoria LaStella Flores
OF: Yaz Dickerson T Dubon Slater Ruf
That’s 14 position players
Does Kap roll with this? Someone to IL? Who would be most likely to be traded?
According to Baggs, Z and Kap have been after Tauchman for long time. Looks like Wandy made himself expendable.
It might take him some time getting used to some of the NL pitchers but maybe not.
I’m guessing Dickerson to an AL team. He and Tauchman are both lefties and Tauchman supposedly doesn’t need to be platooned.
I think that there not comfortable with Solano’s calf injury and he will be out longer. They Will send Santos back to the alternate site, maybe today to activate Tauschman.I wouldn’t be shocked if they shipped out Dubon to get his shit together, he’s obviously struggling hitting and base running blunders.Maybe they call up that SS they picked up from the Yanks as well, cause they have to have a SS backup for Crawford. I like Vosler as well but u can’t keep everyone..
Listening on the radio I was ready to DFA Dubon today for his limp bat and yet another baserunning blunder, but after seeing the video, I agree—–this one at least was on Wotus. And I like Wotus.
It would have been a close play at the plate, but the chances of him scoring were better than getting another two-out hit. Vacillating third base coach helps create a bad scene for a struggling player.
Doobie’s not struggling. He’s cruising right along at his own cut loose pace. Old man Wotus should know that. Kap and Zaidi, too of course. He’s probably not on the chopping block given backup demand but he’s gotta be on the trading block.
50+ years of watching baseball and I’ve never seen a 3rd base coach get in the way of a runner.
With Z/Harris daily use of the alternate site this team never looks the same. Some with injuries some, just give a player a few days, Yaz,Longo, Crawford,Belt with lingering injuries..
Just in the last 10 days transactions, the revolving door continues whit some guys never needing to unpack there bags..Tromp up Tromp down Gott up Gott down, Duggar up Duggar down,Selman up,Selman down,
Bolt? I don’t even know why he was called up except the cool name, probably down today, Vosler who knows?
Santos needs more experience probably down. Yaz might go on the DL, maybe wise.Tauchman can slide right in for now starting tonight. The moves will continue today from the carousel go round..
I really hope Tauchman contributes right out the gate, the Giants sure could use it right now. Like this pick up a lot.
I’ve been less of a bullpen skeptic than most here, but I’m becoming an unbeliever. Wandy could go either way the rest of this season, but the long run weakness still looks like it’s from the right side.
Yeah I don’t know wtf Wotus was thinking and yes a lot on Dubon because your taught to first make sure u hit the 3rd base bag so yeah your head can be down there but then immediately look for your 3B coach for the stop sign. But never should it turn into a bear hug collision!! I actually saw a replay where the 1st baseman is just receiving the ball when the Wotuson collision was going down.I think Dubie boy could of made it, but either way a real bad look that I’m sure Flannery was shaking his head in disbelief..
Susan Slusser just posted her latest Giants Splash and talks about the injuries, and the logjam that will be there when guys start getting healthy. She seems to think that Ruf may be the short man out as they have multiple options with RH bats to back-up 1B.
mm thanks, wouldn’t surprise me about Ruf, better fit in AL maybe. As Bozo said, Dickerson to AL club wouldn’t surprise me either. Wonder how much Tauchman would play vs. LHP–if Kapler thinks he’d be better option than Dubon, that makes Dubon really just backup SS or 2b.
Not sure about Tauchman against lefties, but it is mentioned too that T is out of options, so he has to stay on the roster. Also that both Z and Kap say he is a “long-term” addition.
I thought I was old school but I enjoyed watching the Giants use the DH last year. This team is built for the DH. I think the Giants pitchers have one hit this year. Who wants to watch that.
*How come all pitchers who enter the Giants farm system (or any team for that matter) aren’t groomed to be starting pitchers? When you look at young arms like Doval and Santos, why aren’t they starting pitchers? If they don’t show success at starting at the minor league level, then move them to the bullpen.
*How come pitchers like Doval only pitch for one inning? Let them at least go through the line-up once. This would eat up 2-3 innings. The use of the DH would allow for this.
*Would the Giants have won three world championships if the three batter rule existed during that time? Bochy’s main strength was his handling of the bullpen and manipulating the lefty and righty matchups. No more using the LOOGY to Bochy’s advantage.
*How come hitters like LaStella, who aren’t home run hitters, when they lead off in the fourth thru 8th inning when the game is tied and the defense is shifted way over and there is no third baseman, they don’t lay down a bunt. The bunt doesn’t even have to go down the line. There is absolutely no one in the third base area. Just push the ball somewhere in the third base area. They should practice this all the time. Just square around to bunt and push the ball to the third base area (not down the foul line where it has a chance to roll foul).
*It looks like Niners fans are resigned to the fact that they’ll have to trust Shanahan’s judgement in his pick for QB. Is Wilson going to the Jets a done deal? Fields looks better than Wilson. What happens if Wilson is available? Is he better than Jones and Lance?
I would prefer to watch a pitcher hit than a DH, as it adds strategy to the game. For example, if you have a pitcher pitching a gem, but they are due up next, do you keep the pitcher in or pinch-hit for him?
I just detest the DH. I may be in the minority, but I don’t give a fuck. I like the brand of baseball without the DH better.
Even with a team that has the most DH candidates of any team, I’m with Chi , keep the DH for the Junior Circuit !!
Belt and Crawford should also be poking the ball down the 3rd base line, Belt did it a couple of games ago and turned it into a double.
I’m almost hoping someone ties up and gags Shanahan up before the pick is turned in.Passing on the 2nd best QB in the draft and that’s Fields over even Wilson and Lance is just stupidity.Everyother teams in the draft are just begging for the 49ers to take McCorkle the 5th QB that should be taken off the board.
Only 5600 at game last night, not good for bottom line/bean counters. Interested to see how many show up at Petco this weekend for Giants vs. Pads. Next weekend Pads are here for 3.
LaStella is 2 for 13 with 0 BBs last 3 games, and last 7 he is 4-28 with 2 BBs and 1 HR. got off to good start but those aren’t leadoff #s. Signed (3 yrs!) as OB guy/line drive hitter. Hope he gets back on track.
Sanchez walked 5 guys last night (2 scored in first) before he left in 5th, Alvarez walked first guy he faced next inning and that run scored, so first 3 runs scored by Rox all got on via BB. by contrast Giants walked once all night.
Be nice if Slater could get back closer to how well he hit last season too.
85 ABs 2020 he hit .282, with 5 bombs and OB of .408.
In 74 ABs 2021, he’s hitting .230 with OB of .313, 2 bombs/5 XBHs total and 30 Ks.
Sanchez I could see as another potential IL player . Even though he’s pitched well enough,Kapler and staff are really monitoring both his pitch count and especially the velocity which is barely scraping 90.Has to be a concern going forward..
1. Tommy La Stella (L) 2B
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
4. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Darin Ruf (R) RF
7. Mike Tauchman (L) CF
8. Curt Casali (R) C
9. Alex Wood (R) P
Sock Man. Fuck Yeah. I’m already penciling him in for 25 doubles this year, minimum
If Alex Wood is lights out tonight and the Giants win, the rest of the year goes well; if he sucks and they lose, the season will unravel before we finish May. If he’s good and they lose, or they win 12-10, I’m not sure what that means.
James ..Herky Jerky Wood has a better chance of holding up right now then Sanchez, who velocity is down to Zito speed and easily can be headed to the DL.They have been fortunate on the limited pitches and innings on him so far but that could crash& burn real soon imo..
Despite poor BA as a team, Giants are 3rd in both bombs and doubles. Leader Yaz Longo Solano
2019, 25 doubles would be 3rd highest on team behind Pillar and Belt. Giants were 5th in league with 300.
Comp #s mid 20s were Posey Yaz and Sandoval, who each played little over 100 games. Sando’s were in only 300 ABs, less than others.
2020 Giants hit 107 doubles, 3rd in league and led by Solano Yaz and Belt,
deGrom zipped again, 1-0…
What was it they said on SNY, that’s 33 times deGrom has given up 1 run or less and didn’t win.
Da big neck mook OF tonight. Look for Doobie in the corner of the dugout.
As far away from Wotus I would assume?
Tasmania man has one thing going for him,:”He’s got the Nuschler face down”!
Bigger version of Will Clark that’s for sure..
Kuiper grossly overstates Tauchman experience at Oracle. 2017 he had 3 total ABs as member of Rox, 2018 0. Looks like he got into couple games as D replacement/pinch runner but that’s about it. Since then he’s been on Yanks.
Nice piece of hitting.
i still can’t believe we got Sock Man for nearly nothing
This is the NL moment. Casali has to come through.
With the DH, less pressure. But the BB. Still with the DH more pressure here. Totally different game really.
Lulz. After that display Kruk n kuip are wishing for the DH
And there’s another bit of no DH managerial strategy, just get as many pitches as you can during a pitcher’s AB to avoid a DP.
Scintillating.
Nice way to keep an inning going
Love it when Krukow says Marquez is no slouch with a bat in his hand. And then he feebly goes down swinging on 3 pitches..
Baseball from bottom up has ushered in the universal DH. Pitchers stop hitting early on; they generally can’t bunt worth a shit. MadBum and Ohtani are magnificent exceptions. The down turn at the bottom of the NL LU has become a dead spot. It’s over.
yeah it’s inevitable. Giants pitchers have 1 hit all season, by Webb, and you can save bench guys to use late game anywhere instead of having to hit for a pitcher. Also better to have DH guys on base, as better runners and less likely to hurt themselves and cost team an arm.
A Lil Abner to make Zumie’s day.
Krukow’s statement is ignorant on many levels. He really shouldn’t spread ignorance. It’s literally the opposite of his job on TV.
“In 1908, fifteen years after his death, Doubleday was declared by the Mills Commission to have invented the game of baseball (a claim never made by Doubleday during his lifetime). This claim has been thoroughly debunked by baseball historians.”
Krukow might as well say Ulysses Grant invented baseball.
It’s a big deal to me only in that it makes me wonder what else Krukow is B.S.-ing about. How about his mysterious scouting reports about umps. What kind of special nonsense are those?
Maybe the next round of Grant rehabilitation will make that case!
900 pages of well-written redemption of Grant. Chernow makes a strong case.
.jpg)
i look forward to ignoring the hip hop broadway musical
Wow. He bunted that looking behind himself
Krukow..He plays a nice comfortable CF. Jesus every play he’s had been routine, what’s Tauschman suppose to look like a out of control spazz on every ball?
Yeah, I’m with you on criticism of Krukow. His Doubleday baloney irked me.
Let’s take him behind Woody Reuter’s man cave shed and beat some sense in him..
Pretty terrible homeplate ump.
Buckner was actually doing better than usual the first few innings.
Finally, someone who’s going to out complain Belt.
Tauchman…Welcome to the world of CB Buckner’s zany strike zone.Always be ready to hack..
Ok that will make Plays of the week for all the wrong reasons…
Major kangaroo fine and endless laughter! I really think Wood has OCD..
He had to piss
Lotta good luck to get to 15-9, dues to pay …
This one is getting away
I’m sure Wood’s night improved after he got thrown out flipping head over heels at third.
Battle of the dreadlocks goes to Doval!!
One other Camilo that I remember was an outstanding pitcher…
Very effective pitcher Loo, good call..
Why wouldn’t you have a runner for a hobbled Longo?
Nevermind now on a wildpitch.
Keep his D at third?
They have Vosler still don’t they to play 3rd?
Gotta hand it to tauchman
Just don’t seeing Bud Black lasting the season with this bunch of numbnuts..
He looks already burned out and would rather being fishing with Bruce Bochy..
The Rockies are lousy.
Wilmer.
Wilmer then turns into Dubon..
None of the ballplayers are rocket scientists, I guess.
Trevor Bauer thinks he’s one.
Spoiler alert: he’s not. The genius almost cut his own finger off.
Kuiper is irritated at the slow pace of the game.
A pop fly, infield dribbler, and slow roller into RF doomed what chance there was for a fairly crisp game.
Jeeebus. Throw a strike.
Room for some McGee gopher balls now if they want to keep this game going longer..
Skye Bolt sounds like a weak e car
It’s over!
Than god!
It’s pretty amazing to look at the standings this morning…
