First Saturday In May

Maybe my favorite day of the year. I’ll post picks later.

Giants still playing SD, Disco vs Snell.

But I won’t be concerning myself with that game for many, many hours.

Giants continue not to hit –non Poseys went 3-27 with one near miss by Ruf. One of those 3 was double by GD who also walked. Depending on what’s up with Crawford, may have week to stick around. Dubon is only backup to SS, and with no Yaz OF thinner.
Webb had another good game but yeow what a terrible time for mistake to light hitting Profar. Had their chances; Darvish was tough and pen cleaned up after him. Gausman to go Sunday.

    • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 9:52 am

Saw a beat tweet about a Gausman groin injury. Wtf? Yet still supposed to start manana.

    My predictions:
Some rich person’s horse will win and rich women will wear stupid hats.

  3. willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:15 am

dodgers only got 2 hits themselves and lost to Brewers again 3-1. They tried an opener, and he gave up 2 run bomb to Jackie Bradley Jr., enough to sink them.

  4. Lurker John said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:17 am

Webb seems to be settling in a bit. Hopefully he continues to improve. He displayed some pretty good stuff last night. Throwing to Posey can’t hurt.

  5. zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:19 am

The Kings defeated the Lakers last night and that doesn’t make any sense.

So it’s run for the roses along with a run on mint juleps and yes stuck up bitches with outrageous hats that use once in there life.Aaron Rodgers will be there so I’ll take his horse “Whining Packer” to lose to “Double Jeopardy “

california might have some input in Derby. Baffert’s Medina Spirit is running, so is Hot Rod Charlie ridden by Flavien Prat leading jockey at Santa Anita. Joel Rosario is aboard Rock Your World and others riding from California on longshots include Mike Smith and Umberto Rispoli and recently relocated to East Drayden Van Dyke.
Where I used to work, store next door run by single Mom with 2 kids was dedicated to hats and accessories. Run up to Derby Day was always big event for her and those hosting parties bought something new and different every year, for which she had to have stock on hand. Not sure how well she has survived but shop is still open.

  8. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 9:08 am

Umberto mows ’em down in the 4th on the lawn.
Technically, you just gave me one, Flavor…

    • Flavor said, on May 1, 2021 at 9:26 am

Nice! I’m pissed I liked that horse but got busy this morning and didn’t get the bet down in time

  9. Flavor said, on May 1, 2021 at 10:04 am

Loo if it matters to you I like the two horse in this upcoming race

  10. Flavor said, on May 1, 2021 at 10:18 am

    Not optimal

  11. willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 10:56 am

Pete Lammons Jr., teammate of Namath on team that won Big one vs. Colts, died at 77. Sadly, turns out he fell into water from boat while in a fishing contest in East Texas and fellow boater unable to rescue him.
Don’t laws there state safety equipment to be worn or at least on board at time?

    • wilcojoe said, on May 1, 2021 at 11:02 am

Willie you’re talking about Texas. We (er, they) don’t have rules down here.

    • djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 11:03 am

      Remember him well.
What a fucked up way to go…

    • Winder said, on May 1, 2021 at 11:33 am

Just another example for the need of robo ump.

    • James said, on May 1, 2021 at 12:12 pm

Olberman is wrong — he is very much a Major League umpire, an arrogant asshole who, after he blows a call, shows he’s the boss by tripling down on his mistake. Whatever improvements the umps have made collectively in the ball and strike calling, there’s only so far it will go.

Whiskey Double at a price here, Flav?

    • Flavor said, on May 1, 2021 at 1:05 pm

sorry, I have a lot going on here with trying to get my boys who are in on my tickets going with a zoom room. I’ll post my Derby take soon. This race coming up is impossible i like the 7 but I have several in my p4/3

  13. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 12:36 pm

All in with Eddie O on Scarlett Sky here…

  14. Macdog said, on May 1, 2021 at 2:30 pm

Wow, that turf race was close.

  15. Flavor said, on May 1, 2021 at 2:53 pm

that turf race was a tough swallow. I had the 3 but I also had the 5 in my P4 and P3. The dead heat means I gotta drag all these fucking chalk players with me to the payouts. Anyway, Loo I posted the trifecta i did for the Derby in the main thread. Good luck to all!!!!!

    • djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 3:21 pm

Good luck with KA who I’m basically stuck with having no back up plan.
He’s twice the price he’d be with a better post.
It’ll take Irad’s best and plenty of racing luck.
Surprised to see you changed your mind about him…

      • Flavor said, on May 1, 2021 at 4:28 pm

i didn’t change my mind about him I just didn’t want one of my bombs to run 2 or 3 and not hitting it because I didn’t have the 1. He ran like I thought he would run tho

      • djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:42 pm

if you want to call that running…

  16. willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 4:04 pm

Unc’s namesake Hot Rod Charlie got 3rd?

  17. xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 4:06 pm

“He has never been passed by another horse.” Wtf? Is that true? Anyway, I hope the loser frat boy owners don’t do too much damage after dark.

  18. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 4:08 pm

    Fuck the Derby.
    Fuck the Draft.
    Fuck the Umpires.
    Fuck the Padres.

Baffert gives his horses drugs. That is the only thing that explains that

    • djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 4:11 pm

      It’s documented…

      • Flavor said, on May 1, 2021 at 4:27 pm

i know. I just don’t get it. Is this horse going to pass a drug test or are we going to find out 2 months from now “sorry, we did an investigation and he was dirty”.

  20. zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 5:25 pm

When you listen to Shawn Estes, how often do you think of him stepping off of second base and getting tagged out in a crucial moment in the playoffs? I still think of it sometimes when I see him on TV, but not as much as I used to.

    • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 5:53 pm

He seriously injured himself running to 3B, too, didn’t he? But over it all, I’ll remember a game he won, pitching a shutout into the 9th one night vs the Rockies. We had seats down the 1B line. When Dusty walked out to get him the large Candlestick crowd lauded him well. My six year old son went wild. July 4th fireworks night, too.

  21. unca_chuck said, on May 1, 2021 at 5:54 pm

He rolled off the bag after breaking his ankle. Hot Rod Charlie with Flav as the jockey? I woulda bet across the board.

    • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 5:59 pm

My memory of that play is he didn’t slide for some reason, stopped awkwardly on the bag, and then stepped off it. I haven’t seen the play in 20 years, though.

    • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:24 pm

Yeah we all remember that fuck up. But what about his pasta ritual the night before a start?

      • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:43 pm

I’m all-in on pasta. That would be a good ritual.

      • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:50 pm

The NY press covered it when he was a met. Fucking goofy lefty far as I can see. And he was our ace for a while. But Sabean had just taken over in 97.

  22. zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:04 pm

    The NY Post roasted Estes.
I have no memory of the Rios blunder in that game.
    https://nypost.com/2000/10/06/sfs-estes-ana-amazin-bonehead-on-bases/

    • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:06 pm

I have very little memory of Rios, period.

      • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:13 pm

I think he can claim one splash hit.

      • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:31 pm

Well, maybe I was thinking of Crespo

      • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:44 pm

Was Rios traded for Freddie Sanchez? My memory is really stretched on that.

      • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:45 pm

I could look it up, but where’s the fun in that?

      • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:47 pm

I think our memory banks pay different dividends.

      • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:48 pm

        Memory is very mysterious.

      • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:56 pm

Not always. Sone people consciously recall tripe and “forget” what’s startling. Simple stats facilitate that sort of dodge. Dealing with witnesses at deposition and at trial I learned a bit about memory.

  23. unca_chuck said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:13 pm

We done already? DeScaffolding is falling apart.

  24. unca_chuck said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:14 pm

Dubon should run a lap around the park for that swing.

  25. willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:27 pm

Compare the 2 starting lineups, and other than C or maybe 1b, every single Padre is the better player. and tonight it appears Snell is on. DeSclafani has to try and contain them rest of way until Snell exits.

  26. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:45 pm

Wilmer not getting it done this year.
    He has plenty of company…

    • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:46 pm

The lineup is less fun without Yaz and Dick in it.

  27. willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:55 pm

Whoa. No doubt bomb from Flaco

  28. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 6:56 pm

    Go ahead, Mac:
    Du-Bomb!

  29. xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:06 pm

CB Buckner blew that by a full step. Fuck.

  30. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:11 pm

Once again, can’t get that clutch hit…

  31. willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:11 pm

ah Belt had chance to break that open. Just don’t understand why a guy who can throw 96 heat like Snell did on those last 2 pitches, throws so much off speed slop in the dirt and walks so many guys.

    • James said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:23 pm

Left handed batters were 1-16, a single, with 8 Ks against Snell this year before tonight. Belt would have been on the bench if LaStella wasn’t in a slump.

      • James said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:24 pm

Or Solano was available, of course.

      • willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:36 pm

high fastball was unhittable. don’t get why Snell doesn’t use it more often.

  32. willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:32 pm

Nicely done. 5 innings of 1 hit shutout baseball with 9 groundouts from DeSclafani.

    • willedav said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:35 pm

ERA now an even 2.00 in 6 starts/36 innings.

  33. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:35 pm

    La Stella fuckin sucks…

  34. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:37 pm

    Slater fuckin sucks…

  35. James said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:39 pm

The La Stella Ks are infuriating. Twice his career rate so far. I hate shit like that.

  36. djloo27 said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:47 pm

    Prepare for the Myers HR…

    • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:53 pm

Somehow it didn’t happen (yet.) I was (am) expecting it.

  37. zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 7:59 pm

It seems like a very long time ago I went to about 10 Giants games in a row that they won. The streak got broken when Bochy trotted out a complete scrubini lineup on a Saturday afternoon. Gillaspie batted third that day, lulz. I saw the lineup and knew the steak was over.

    • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:04 pm

I think they then lost about 4 games in a row I went to. This very well could have been that ‘16 season where they were hot in the first half and struggled in the second half of the season, and scraped into the playoffs.
I used to go to a lot of games when I was younger.

      • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:11 pm

I used to get in a few A’s games every season, too.
And several Cal League minor league games. I’ve got to get my game-going mojo back!!

  38. Macdog said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:11 pm

    Someone hit the fucking ball!

  39. zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:15 pm

    Nice cheesy bat flip.

  40. unca_chuck said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:16 pm

    Someone on the Giants…

  41. xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:18 pm

Wait Who’s the new Strickland ?

  42. xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:20 pm

    Longo with a great play.

  43. unca_chuck said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:37 pm

    pfffffffffft

    • xoot said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:43 pm

      Disco with a quality start.

  44. zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:42 pm

The Thunder lost by 57 points tonight. The worst home loss in NBA history.

    • zumiee said, on May 1, 2021 at 8:43 pm

The third string didn’t do well in garbage time.

  45. James said, on May 1, 2021 at 10:44 pm

The Giants will be in first place on May 2!
