A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Post Derby Blues

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 2, 2021

Much like Medina Spirit winning the Derby makes no sense to me I am struggling to understand how the Giants could be alone in first place on May 2nd after stringing together 2 losses.

And yet, here we are…….

Hopefully Gausman stops bleeding and Giants can get few more hits than last couple days. Pads are in town next weekend; even though Dogs are struggling right now, these 2 are 90% certain to be at top of Division. How Giants fare against them will go long way to decide where they wind up.
SF does get 3 more with Rockies, in Nepal, after today. If bats don’t wake up there…

It’s not suppose to make sense like waking up this morning when Kyle Shanahan said :”I can’t guarantee we will all be alive on Sunday “

  3. zumiee said, on May 2, 2021 at 8:45 am

Last night the Dodgers scored 2 runs in the top of the 11th and gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the inning.

Slusser re tweeted John Shea column in Chron about where prospects will be to start 2021 minors.:
Ramos and Hjelle in AA Richmond
Bishop Wilson Bailey and Corry in High A Eugene
Luciano Toribio Matos Canario and Harrison (HS pitcher from DeLaSalle) in low A san jose.
Most leagues will start either Tuesday or Thursday, plus AAA River Cats in Sac

    • Winder said, on May 2, 2021 at 9:06 am

Definitely gonna make a game or two in Eugene. Giants gotta start hitting the ball or else it’s gonna be a long season. We have gotten some good timely hitting for the most part but it looks like some pitchers in our division are warming up.

      • willedav said, on May 2, 2021 at 9:22 am

Enjoy. Trying to figure out how to make a nearby San Jose game. It’s small park to begin with, so no idea how many fans will be allowed in etc. Hopefully some of the San Jose guys move up to Eugene (or beyond) some time later in season.

      • Winder said, on May 2, 2021 at 12:35 pm

Yeah, I have never been to the stadium in Eugene so I should make some phone calls first.

Sock Man AND Grave Duggar in same LU. I’m happy

  6. zumiee said, on May 2, 2021 at 12:53 pm

San Jose, low A? That’s a change. It was always the high A team.

  7. mrsprtdude said, on May 2, 2021 at 1:11 pm

    I predict a 6-2 win!

  8. zumiee said, on May 2, 2021 at 1:19 pm

It turns out the California League now no longer exists. It has been replaced by the “Low-A West.”
“The Low-A West is an eight-team Minor League Baseball league that will begin operating in California in 2021.”

    • zumiee said, on May 2, 2021 at 1:28 pm

It’s a lot of the same teams that were in the Cal League, but are now low A instead of high A.
The biggest change is the Fresno Grizzlies join the league. They used to be a AAA team. Not sure how Hank, Jr.’s broadcasting career gets affected.

      • zumiee said, on May 2, 2021 at 1:29 pm

        “effected,” I meant.

      • zumiee said, on May 2, 2021 at 1:37 pm

This is one of the great baseball books. I’m going to reread it at some point. It really brings the reader into what it’s like at the AAA level for players, coaches and managers, broadcasters, umps, everyone. Very well-written.
“Where Nobody Knows Your Name: Life In the Minor Leagues of Baseball” by John Feinstein.

Kuiper starting the wine early today..
He said:Tauchman is the only Giants hitter in the LU that’s never faced Tauchman!

Throw two similarly unhittable FBs to Tatis in a row and he’ll park the second. Damn.

Wasn’t even strike. Shades of Bad Vlad.

  11. djloo27 said, on May 2, 2021 at 2:02 pm

Jesus, it’s not as if Casali had anything to lose by running all the way on that ball.
Fair or foul it was clearly uncatchable….

“The Dodgers purchased the contract of left-hander Mike Kickham.”

    • djloo27 said, on May 2, 2021 at 2:47 pm

Didn’t San Dog find his look alike, Paul Splittorff?

Too bad about all those extra Gausman pitches after two outs.

  23. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2021 at 2:49 pm

Jesus. Does this team do anything regarding game prep? These guys shouldn’t be getting hurt like this. It’s baseball FFS.

“OAKLAND, Calif. — Athletics left-hander Jesus Luzardo will be off the mound for a while — and maybe off video games, too.
Luzardo is out indefinitely after breaking the pinkie finger on his pitching hand when he thumped a table while playing a video game before his start Saturday.
An X-ray after a loss to Baltimore showed a hairline fracture and Luzardo was put on the 10-day injured list Sunday.”

I love the look on John Goodman’s face. ROFL!

  28. snarkk said, on May 2, 2021 at 3:50 pm

Gausman is apparently at something like 8000-1 odds to win the Cy.
That might be a nice bet for a ducat or two for some of you that like to bet on occasion…

    • Macdog said, on May 2, 2021 at 3:53 pm

As long as deGrom makes every start, ain’t no one else in the NL winning the Cy.

      • snarkk said, on May 2, 2021 at 3:56 pm

Agreed, but he’s a prime candidate for an elbow.
$10 for Gausman wouldn’t be a bad bet on those odds…

  29. Macdog said, on May 2, 2021 at 3:55 pm

It’s a beautiful day for three groundouts.

  30. snarkk said, on May 2, 2021 at 3:55 pm

Why not let Baragar start the 8th, he did well in the 7th, and didn’t throw many pitches. The guy needs to pitch some and get some confidence, he’s been iffy so far. Even if 3 guys all hit HRs, they’d be able to take him out and still have the lead. Sometimes I don’t get these automaton type Pen moves…

  31. Lurker John said, on May 2, 2021 at 3:58 pm

Barring an utter collapse, Gausman will get the W today. That should help his Cy Young efforts.

  32. zumiee said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:10 pm

Longoria was a rally-killer all weekend.

    • Macdog said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:14 pm

  36. Flavor said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:20 pm

Gausman isn’t 8,000 to 1 to win the CY that was something stupid Marty Lurie said on his show today. He’s 80-1, Marty doesn’t understand how to read an odds board

    • snarkk said, on May 2, 2021 at 5:38 pm

      Yeah, I heard it there.
Maybe that’s why they’ve cut down Marty’s time on the air?…

  37. unca_chuck said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:24 pm

  42. Lurker John said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:26 pm

Doval with his Nuke LaLoosh impression to finish things off. Kid has some filthy stuff. Splitting the first 6 with the vaunted Friars is a serviceable result most of us are probably pretty happy with.

    Beat the Rockies!

  45. mrsprtdude said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:36 pm

Nice win! Picked up Tauchman yesterday in my fantasy league to cover for Soto on DL. So far so good!

  46. Flavor said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:36 pm

i mean, even 80-1 are good odds for Gausman, although deGrom would have to get hurt soon in order to lose the CY. Tomorrow I will be highlighting all the things I’ve been wrong about this year and he is on the list.

  47. Flavor said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:38 pm

about 12 years ago I predicted the Giants would lose to the A’s 6-0 and it ended up that way. I did many victory laps that day, Twin didn’t like that.

  48. Macdog said, on May 2, 2021 at 4:53 pm

Good win, and not just to stay in first. While it wouldn’t have been disastrous this early in the season, getting swept certainly would’ve been a setback for a team trying to show it can hang with the big boys. That’s 3-3 so far vs. the Pads, all in S.D. Another solid outing by Gausman, and it took the new guy for someone to finally get a big hit this weekend.

    • willedav said, on May 2, 2021 at 5:18 pm

yeah that broke things open, after he got robbed first time up. Tauchman taking over CF will push others to bench, or Sacramento.

      • djloo27 said, on May 2, 2021 at 5:31 pm

Dubon is opening some eyes at SS, too…

  49. Flavor said, on May 2, 2021 at 5:27 pm

I still can’t believe we got Sock Man for basically nothing.

  50. snarkk said, on May 2, 2021 at 5:41 pm

I can’t stand Bill Laskey on pre and post game KNBR.
He’s so bad I’m almost pining away for Carmen Kiew.
Now, Kerry Crowley, I like his info and energy.
Not sure about the adjectives for Laskey.
Insipid, lame, repetitive, mind-numbing, gratuitously old-school — are in the mix.
    Anybody feel me? …

    • djloo27 said, on May 2, 2021 at 5:55 pm

You just described most of us, Snarkk…

      • snarkk said, on May 2, 2021 at 5:56 pm

        Come on now.
We’re all old school. But, not gratuitously…

  51. Flavor said, on May 2, 2021 at 5:59 pm

At least it’s not Laskey and the impossible to listen to Vida Blue who knew next to nothing about the team or, really, anything. Crowley is great

    • snarkk said, on May 2, 2021 at 6:02 pm

      Agreed.
      Vida was horrible.
Did he even watch the Giants?…

      • Flavor said, on May 2, 2021 at 6:15 pm

Vida was just doing that job off his name. Nothing else. He did zero prep work, never knew what he was talking about, Laskey seemed incredibly bright compared to him.

  52. Flavor said, on May 2, 2021 at 6:00 pm

Laskey, to me, is just a nice guy to plug for the team. He offers nothing in his show. Marty interviews “the professor” and acts like every word he says is gold. It’s really not.

  53. snarkk said, on May 2, 2021 at 6:03 pm

    I’m digging this Tauchman dude.
If he performs up to first impressions, the Yanks were crazy to let him go for Wandy, or else Yanks have a shitload of good outfielders.
BTW, violating my one time only promise,I noticed Duggar is back up, against all odds. Why?
0h for 3 today with 2 Ks, with BA at .111. I know the whole team’s been hitting like linguini, but Holy Hanna..
    Can DFA be nigh ?…

      Designated For Interment

  54. alleykat69 said, on May 2, 2021 at 6:15 pm

I can’t stand both Laskey are Lurie.
That goes for Lopez as well,he offers nothing as an analyst but nauseiem.
I really wish Estes was involved more on TV /radio somehow, he’s quite knowledgeable imo and not boring AF..

Kings defeated the Mavs. The refs tossed Doncic out of the game near the end for being a massive crybaby.

    • willedav said, on May 2, 2021 at 7:48 pm

Bout freaking time. One of those guys you wonder how his head fits through locker room doors.

      • zumiee said, on May 2, 2021 at 7:53 pm

He ref-baits literally all game. Near the end of the game he got angry and, instead of giving the ball to the ref after a time-out whistle, he threw the ball to no one at the other end of the court. He got his 2nd T and got tossed.
