14 Innings Today
I don’t have a problem with the 7 inning games. Or the DH. The only new rule that really bugs me is the dude born on 2nd base to start the 10th inning.
Especially in Colorado. Like we need MORE innings up there in space.
Warriors and Giants have been fantastic surprises this year. I still can’t believe where we were a year ago.
I really do not like the seven inning games. Fuck it, they did full 9 inning DHs before to accommodate a postponed game. Why not now. Seven innings is bush league, IMO. And I may be in the minority, but HATE the fucking DH. That shit is not real baseball, IMO.
Agree on the runner on 2nd to start extras. Bush league. Pitcher must pitch to three hitters – bush league, too.
Manfred is a fucking moron.
But, still looking forward to baseball today for our First Place San Francisco Giants.
A baseball game is 9 innings and should stay that way. I wonder if Ernie Banks would have voted for 7 inning games. I doubt it.
Uh, fuck no. None of the old-timers would have bought-into the bullshit being thrown-out there by Manfred.
Don’t like the 3 hitter per pitcher rule. You are taking decisions away from the manager. Not that I like Bochy’s one-pitcher-per-hitter ploy for 3 innings, but there’s a balance between the two.
I don’t like the 7-inning doubleheaders either, that’s what they do in college and maybe the minors too? This is the Major Leagues, FFS. That said, touching on what Wille posted in the last thread, if there’s going to be a 7-inning doubleheader, it might as well be at Coors so maybe the pitching staff won’t get overtaxed from playing in that ridiculous ballpark.
What will help with this situation is if we can take 2. I still won’t like the 7 innings crap but it will make it better.
Shea from his column in chron, quoting Kapler (who did play for Rox) on DH: “I was just talking to Ron wotus about this, who’s as traditional as they come. We both kind of smiled and said it’s really nice that we’re going to try to cover 14 innings instead of 2 nine inning games tomorrow.”
More from Kapler: “You don’t want to blow through your entire bullpen over the course of two games.”
They are back to back too, just like in old days, with second game to start 30 minutes after first one ends.
7 innings games is a joke.Just ask Madison Bumgarner he throws a 7 inning no hitter and nobody cares, put an asterisk next to it.
The runner at 2nd to start the 10th inning is the most asinine, the pitcher has to start in the stretch, total disadvantage, oh,and if u give up a run that’s ok we won’t hold it against u,with your era because some mystery guy is standing there at 2nd to fuck your head up.Manfred has screwed up the game to no ends! And Screw the DH watching Logan Webb flexing up and running out a triple was pretty cool to see..
Maybe one or both of the games will go to the 8th with the runner on 2nd kicking in, we’ll get a Stupid Rules 2-for-1.
LMAO….good one, Mac.
If your going to have this stupid rule with a runner on second to start extras, then the least mlb could do is even out the playing field by allowing any player they choose to run at 2nd.Even if there out of the game, they still can pinch run but not play in the field.
From the Athletic on the player no one wants to talk about unless he fucks up:
“ According to Baseball Savant, Rogers has allowed 188 balls in play in his career, and he’s allowed exactly one (1) barrel.”
The most noise made about the steroid era was concerning the cheating of the “sacred” records, some HOF voters still won’t recognize Bonds because of that. Yet here we are with secret MLB approved live baseballs,10 men on a lineup card, interleague games, 3 batter rule, 7 inning games, man on second in extras, and not a dang peep about those same sacred records.
That’s why the thought of moving the mound back a foot is especially idiotic.
True that, Unca.
Let’s rumble!
1. Mike Tauchman (L) RF
2. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Alex Dickerson (L) LF
5. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
6. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
7. Jason Vosler (L) 3B
8. Steven Duggar (L) CF
9. Aaron Sanchez (R) P
Guaranteeing a Grave-bomb today.
If not now, when?
Oh my.
Yaz due back Friday off IL.
LaStella 10 day DL, Hamstring
Called up LHP Conor Menez ,and Utility Man Jason Vosler..
James, baseball ref has 32% of balls in play off Rogers as being “hard hit”. Meaning over 95 MPH. In his brief career (62 innings) he’s given up 3 HRs and had an ERA of 4.50 last year. Not sure what ‘one barrel’ is.
I’m guessing the guys that hit those other 2 HRs, just didn’t get all of it.
Should have put their butt checks into it more to get the proper launch angle.
One was a Coors field special ….
Per MLB quoted in the Athletic:
“To be Barreled, a batted ball requires an exit velocity of at least 98 mph. At that speed, balls struck with a launch angle between 26-30 degrees always garner Barreled classification. For every mph over 98, the range of launch angles expands.”
Slusser said in Chron column she tweets that LaStella to be out 4-6 weeks, and Solano at least another 2 weeks. Menez, as Kat said earlier, is up but only for DH as extra roster guy allowed.
LaStella was another one I was right about. Played like absolute shit till the other day, gets a couple hits, out for 6 weeks.
mm so far anyway, yes. Btw he spoke highly of Vosler, couple Jersey guys.
Bring up Thyroid already.
What are they waiting for?
We need infielders.
Wilmet wilts with too much PT.
This was another Yankee heist…
Another hit, 4 in a row early in count. Gonna need all you can get here. Nice hustle by Tauchman to get to 2b.
I am think all the old timers are laughing and saying what a bunch of pussies, can’t even play 18 innings in a day
Wow they jumped all over Marquez for a 5 spot knocking him out and still have the bases loaded with 2 outs!
Be sweet if they can add a few more.,
Holy shit! Deja vu
Belt just unloaded on that ball
And how about that for adding on ! A Grandslam for Belt!!! 9-0 5 RBI’s for Belt in the inning!
And one!
Oh hell yes 10-0!! Posey going yard!!
I am pretty sure the Rockies are glad this will only go 7 innings
On a pace for 70 runs lol 😂

Why not put in a mercy rule while their at it?
Maybe fans can get lucky and the game will be over in 2 innings…
Opie has shorted start of his career today in Windy–1 inning 4 runs 4 hits 2 BBs in 7-1 L first game of 2 at Cubs.
shortest, of 360 previous. 11 years ago to the day he only last 1 and 1/3,
i remember that game. AZ right?
What a way to start a double header in CO!!
The 7 inning double header I think is for once a great idea out of MLB. Think they should intentionally schedule 3-4 a year…
The last thing you need up 10 runs is rain ..
Sanchez looks like 10 might not be enough.
He’s grinding but still tossing zeros..
sure enough.
Flavor, the Opie start you are thinking of occurred May 12 2014 vs. AZ. He lasted 1 and 2/3 and gave up 7 earned.
His other one that had been shortest was vs. Brewers May 4 2010 when he gave up 7 earned in 1 and 1/3.
As per cbs site story about him getting thrashed today.
ok so I was off by 1/3 an inning but I had the team right. And I was off by 4 years too. Other than that, I remember that start well!
exactly, you were on it.
Nailed it!
The boys brought their hitting sticks tonight. Who’s the guy doing color in this game?
Randy Winn. Could probably dial it back a little, but opposite of Javier lopez, huh?
Oh, wow, that’s pretty cool. Yeah, he’s coming on a little strong, but it’s cool to hear him in there. Always liked him as a player. The color job is one a lot of guys have to grow into. Thanks Willie.
8 run lead and these guys nibble nibble nibble. Fucking Sanchez can’t go 5 with a 10 run lead.
That’s exactly what I was yelling at my computer when Alvarez was in there. Seems to be a trait for some Giants’ pitchers.
Good win!
Celebrating a win and the seventh inning stretch.
Alt site call up Ryan Castellani to start second game for Rox. He is another RHP so maybe LHs stay in there.
A Duggar-Header!
1. Sock Man (L) LF
2. Wilmer Flores (R) 2B
3. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
4. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
5. Austin Slater (R) RF
6. Grave Duggar (L) CF
7. Mauricio Dubon (R) SS
8. Curt Casali (R) C
9. Alex Wood (R
nice.
Batting practice fastball…
For an older BC guy Longoria is pretty smooth at 3b
I wonder what the ratio is of Giants hit by pitch to the other team hit by Giants-thrown pitch? Seems the Gyros get hit more often…
This from the CBS site where my fantasy league is…..RHP Kevin Gausman was placed on the injured list after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination and experiencing symptoms. The team’s medical staff anticipated the after-effects will clear up in a day or two.
If his symptoms cler in a day or two why put him on it?? That’s some weak shit
PS Great to win game one of any double header!
covid IL is different–he can come off it as soon as he feels better. Giants did this recently with somebody else, another pitcher I think…seems like dodgers type of move to hide a guy for few days and bring in fresh body.
Just saw runner out at home. Not watching but is it just me or is wotus worst 3rd base coach ever?
Wotus is woefully overrated. He’s been around a long time. That’s his resume. No idea why Kap keep him around.
Always thought his greatest value was positioning fielders in the pre-shift days…
Thx Wille. Didn’t know that. makes more sense now
They can bring in fresh arm is what I should have said. Especially playing at Coors.
The Grave Duggar may have an opportunity to win this thing for us…
get a good pitch to hit.
7th walk by Rox pitchers this game.
He better fuckin come through…
there you go!
Clutch Duggar!
Got those two runs back.
Grave Winner!!!
He actually showed some smarts and didn’t try to do too much with it.
Just hit it where it was pitched…
Wilmet’s due to park one…
Hell yeah!
Yeah you right. Great call.
A good evening for Loo’s boys…
Cubs sweep the Dodgers!
If the Giants hold on, they’ll be in first place “as we enter the middle of May.”
Bums swept!
I’d bunt Duggar here…
What a dumb idea.
He was really Dugging down the line.
The underused closer …
McGee’s a gutless piece of shit.
Just completely gave in…
I don’t want to see that fat fuck ever again…
Wow, McGee was absolute crap tonight.
Isn’t Casali calling the pitches?
GODDAMMIT!
Ah shit.
Fuckin nauseating…
FUCKING SHIT!!!
McGee is not a closer and never will be. Doval, yet another young Giants pitcher who doesn’t have it between the ears. Afraid to throw a 100mph fastball. Unbelievable.
2 outs with a 4 run lead and give up 6 runs????
What a choke.
So agitated.
Giants Pen is an ongoing issue. No consistency.
They have no closer.
This one and the first game of the year in Seattle vie for worst Pen meltdown of the year…
And waste solid outing by Wood, who got 13 ground ball outs in 5 innings.
